SMFA Continental Cup

The SM manager body is blessed with a diverse background. Asian, American, European, African and even Australian representatives are present. However, who out of these bodies is the best?

We now proudly present to you the SMFA Continental Cup! This annual championship is the ultimate competition between the continents. Which continent is the best, which one will have their names carved onto the almighty cup? Which SM body will be able to declare themselves champions for yet another season? These are the questions that will be solved with this paramount of cups.

How will it work?

There will be 1 division, with 20 teams in total, 4 teams representing a continent. The 5 continents with the two America’s will be combined into one will all be represented by clubs from Europe. The best clubs in the EPL will represent the European body, because they have the most competitive league and the most dough. The best clubs in the La Liga will represent the North and South American body, because they have the most passion and the strongest national teams. The best clubs in the Bundesliga will represent the Asian body, because both entities are rising in their respective competitions (Bundesliga reaching 3rd in coefficients, Japan and Korea for Asia in international competitions). The best clubs in Ligue 1 will represent the African body, because both of their respective best players play outside of their country/continent. Lastly, the best clubs in the Serie A will represent the Australian body, because both are bidding their goodbyes to legends and welcoming a new generation.

All squads will be empty and clubs will start with a 100 million balance. No buying players rated over 90, because there aren’t a lot of those and if one continent were to hog them all, then the outcome of this competition would be fairly one sided. Also, there will be a squad cap of 35, just to make things fair. 35 should be enough to have every position backed up at least twice for any formation: 11 starters x 3 = 33 -1 (Goalkeeper) = 32.

At the end of the season, the table position of each club will be added up. The continent with the smallest amount is crowned champion. So for example:

Rank. Club (representative)

1. Lyon (Africa)

2. Real Madrid (America)

3. Arsenal (Europe)

4. Bayern Munich (Asia)

5. Barcelona (America)

6. Paris Saint Germain (Africa)

7. Bayer Leverkusen (Asia)

8. Manchester United (Europe)

9. AC Milan (Australia)

10. Valencia (America)

11. Liverpool (Europe)

12. Schalke 04 (Asia)

13. Juventus (Australia)

14. Villareal (America)

15. Borussia Dortmund (Asia)

16. Lille OSC (Africa)

17. Internazionale (Australia)

18. Chelsea (Europe)

19. Marseille (Africa)

20. AS Roma (Australia)

Now, if we add this up:

Europe: 3+8+11+18 = 40

America: 2+5+10+14 = 31

Africa: 1+6+16+19 = 42

Asia: 4+7+12+15 = 38

Australia: 9+13+17+20 = 59

The numbers on the right hand side is the final point count of each continent. If this were the case, then the Americas would be crowned this season’s champion of SM!

Additionally there will be a fair play vote. In the last week of each season, there will be a vote for fair play. Fair play in SM is basically which continent’s bodies were the best sports, such as if they lost a game, instead of saying YOU CHEATED, they say good job man, you beat me this time. The vote will be on the forum, and anyone can vote. To vote, all you have to do is post the continent that you think played the fairest. You can vote for any continent, and if you have multiple accounts and you thinking cheating is cool, go ahead and vote. However, make sure that we can understand this post. It would be best if you voted in this format:

“I think the ___________ continent body played the fairest this season.”

This is to ensure we understand you are voting. You cannot vote for a friend with your account, he/she must vote by himself/herself. Once the week ends, all the posts within this week will be counted. Whoever has the most votes wins. The winner will have 5 POINTS taken off in their final point count.

Along with that, for every league title, cup and/or shield won, 1 POINT will be taken off from the continent’s total point count. Lyon won the league title in the example above, which means that Africa will receive a -1 to on their final point count to decrease their amount to 41. It’s the little things that matter.

In the case of a tie in final point count between two or more continents, the JUDGE PANEL will decide on the winner. Things such as level of difficulty matter, say if Africa had 35 points with an average player rating of 85, while Asia has the same amount of points but with an average player rating of 82, then Asia would be more heavily weighted in the judges decision. Or if say Lyon players got big rises in player ratings compared to a Madrid side who didn’t have much, Africa would gain an advantage over the Americas when it comes time to vote. Once the judges make a decision, it will be announced on the forum.

Remember, you don’t have to be managing a club in this GW to be representing your continent. We strongly encourage you to communicate with your fellow continent representative managers. Along with that, we also hope you will create a social group for your continent to discuss the best strategies, etc. To manage a club and represent where you come from, you simply have to apply. Of course, you don’t necessarily have to be born or live in a continent to represent it. However, it would help you in your application. Take note that when you apply you are making a commitment to your continent and your fellow managers. Try your best to be open to suggestions, even if you think the suggested proposition is wrong. If you are going away for a while or you are quitting soccermanager, let the judge panel know.

Prizes

Credits will not be distributed as a prize. Representing your nation should alone be a good reason for you to apply/help out, not for the fake money. Along with that, the winning national will have their name written on the trophy and a signature version of that will be posted on the front page which anyone is eligible to use (if you are shameless, you may indeed wear a trophy which you do not or did not support). The winning managers will receive shout outs, and yeah, that’s about it.

Trophy

The dancing dolphin will act as the trophy for the first 3 seasons.

Anyone interested? The above are just ideas that can be changed any time. Lots of refining required, also if anyone is interested in managing/judge panel, post please. Unlike similar competitions, this is supposed to be 100% forum based, and the managers don't play for themselves, they play for their continent.
