Ajax | Rise To The Top

u_Ajax_vs_Feyenoord_im_Februar_2009.jpg

Welcome to one of my latest match report threads, I've done a few in the past, some lasting quite a while along with some only lasting a couple of posts long but I've decided to return and start off with a new team and attempt to progress with them to as far as I can go. I have saw many forumers in the past do Match Report threads and it has really encouraged me to create a successful thread. Can I please ask to not post any posts and takeover a club in this gameworld, however tips and feedback is appreciated on my team. I hope you enjoy reading my posts over the next couple of seasons as I take Ajax from Division 4, to Division 1. Cheers.

Tycoon Takeover at Ajax

Under-Sheikh-Mansour-Manc-006.jpg

It has been revealed by the Director of Football that a takeover has been agreed in the early hours of this morning by Abu-Dhabi tycoon Sheikh Mansour. It is believed that Sheikh sees the potential of Ajax FC in helping them to succeed there goals of rising up the divisions and becoming one of the World's most famous clubs again. Ajax are currently lying around 13th in Division 4, with an expected change in manager, it's believed that business will start straight away with reports of managers already verbally agreeing to join. In the last few weeks, the new manager whom is set to take over from Frank De Boer has already set up a list of possible signings that he would like to bring to the club with most already agreeing that they join the club in Amsterdam. It is suspected that Sheikh Mansour is injecting around £280m into this project so it is expected that in the upcoming days that alot of cash will be spent by the club. Fans are expected to be dancing with jubilation after the quick takeover as with the season drawing and fans hopes of play-offs quickly fading it is hoped that some instant signings will need to be made with the club a fair distance off 6th place. with It should be an intense but exciting wait to see what the next couple of hours have instore for the club.

Villas Boas to take the reigns at Ajax

Andre-Villas-Boas-008.jpg

Andre Villas Boas has said it's "great to return to European football" after a long awaited job hunt after resigning from his post as manager at Tottenham Hotspur. Commonly known as "AVB" the Portuguese manager has joined Ajax FC after long discussions over the past few days to weeks with new owner Sheikh Mansour, it is believed that the Abu-Dhabi man sees Ajax as a long term project in helping them achieve there aim of returning to the top with the big boys and Andre Villas Boas is the perfect candidate. The 35 year old for his age has an impressive CV managing at the top teams such as Tottenham, Chelsea and Porto. There is no doubt that AVB has experience in bringing success to clubs, managing under the "Special One" Jose Mourinho he has witnessed first hand quality managerial expertise along with achieving the treble in his first season as manager of Porto. It is believed that AVB has signed a deal on a 2 year rolling contract, Sheikh Mansour revealed before that players are on there way to Ajax after his investment after already meeting up with the new manager and over the next few hours the new man at the stands should be unveiling his new men, AVB spoke to the club website in a statement saying..

AVB told the Club Website

"I'm over the moon to have finally joined a club especially being Ajax, I have been across Europe many times this year where I have witnessed some play by Ajax and it has always been one that has caught my eye. It's great to be back on the training ground and I'm very honoured to be given the opportunity by Sheikh Mansour to take Ajax to the next step. It will be a difficult challenge in acheiving promotion to Division 3 after currently looking in the standings to where we are but it is still very possible but will take a lot of hardwork by the lads. There will be quite a lot of transfers over the next week to two weeks as we evaluate the current situation here at Ajax but hopefully these changes will help us achieve our goal of promotion.

Fans uncertain over Villas Boas appointment

wkhdte.jpg

This morning we revealed that Andre Villas Boas had become the most recent manager to take control at Ajax and it is believed that comments and quotes from fans have been sent in to local aspects of the media with the overall response being a sense of uncertainty that he is the correct man for the job. The appointment was from first impressions that AVB looked the perfect man to finally take the reigns at Ajax but it isn't perfectly known if the fans share the same view for the 35 year old manager. After signing a 2 year rolling contract at the club, fans are hoping that Villas Boas can make a sudden impact in helping to lift them up the table to there hope of play-offs. Over the next few days, there should be a couple of appointments to Villas Boas' backroom staff where it is expected that he will bring in some coaches that he has worked previously in the past with at Chelsea and Porto. But despite all the concern surrounding the fans regarding Andre Villas Boas, the owner is sure that AVB is the perfect man and believes that this will become apparent in the coming weeks with some of the results expected of the team.

Young Talent set to join AVB's revolution!

Christian-Benteke-has-joi-008.jpg

Christian Benteke has been rated highly by experts

After reports in and around the newspapers of rumours regarding the first few signings in and out of Ajax, it is strongly speculated that this first man to join Andre Villas Boas at his new "revolution" at Ajax is Belgian forward Christian Benteke. The Belgian forward is boarding a plane from England outward to Holland to finalize terms over a deal which sees the young 22 year old forward to become one of the first few players to put pen to paper at the club. Christian was released earlier this season from Aston Villa after being unable to make any first-team appearances at the club. The Belgian striker has made around 4 appearances for the National team but there is a sense of doubt to whether the striker has enough experience to help out Ajax move up the table . If the transfer is completed, it is suspected that there will be a press conference early in the hours of tomorrow morning confirming his signature at the club!

2prtjds.jpg

Muriel labelled as "One for the future!"

The second player set to participate in a medical at Ajax's training ground is young Colombian striker Luis Muriel, the 21 year old is set to join Ajax after being a free agent for a couple of weeks after being released by Udinese again similar to Christian Benteke after a lack of appearances at the club. Luis has been linked to many clubs recently but no deals have appeared to finalize but it seems that Villas Boas has took the opportunity to bring in the young striker and make him one of his first transfers at the club. Muriel, who is relatively unknown to the majority of the footballing world made his way through the various ranks after appearing to make a couple of appearances for the Italian teams Lecce and Udinese but following a change in manager at Udinese and tough competition for the main forward position it had been decided to release the striker and it is expected that Luis Muriel will sign a 5 year contract. Nothing has yet to be confirmed for either deals but they are strong rumours and it is believed that they will soon become Ajax players.

Re: Ajax | Rise To The Top

Flood of signings join Ajax! (Part1)

Arjen-Robben-008.jpg

Robben the biggest name out of the star-studded lineup!

Over the last couple of days it has been hinted that there would be a number of signings that would be entering the gates into the stadium of the Amsterdam Arena. After Sheikh Mansour's tycoon takeover only a mere couple of days ago, it has been revealed that a number of signings had already been lined-up in order to join Ajax instantly once the take over had been completed. Set with a budget believed to be around £300m there is no doubt that these big signings are here for the long term prospect of the project beginning at Ajax. Described as an instant revolution at Ajax, there will be a lot of pressure on these players as they perform over the coming weeks as Ajax attempt the impossible to reach a play-off/promotion spot in just 13 games from starting in 13th position, these are some of the players that will be starting life in Amsterdam very soon...

The biggest name to join Ajax is world-wide professional Arjen Robben returning back to Holland in what has already been described as a 'controversial' move playing for his ex-teams rivals, (formerly played at PSV as a youngster). Although the deal has been described as controversial, it could be one of the bargains of the season, signed from managerless AS Roma, the 29year old forward/winger was signed for just 16million in what is our opinion "a coup of a deal." Robben looks set to make his debut tonight against Blackburn Rovers away in a much anticipated debut. The second big player (literally) to join Ajax is Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini, signed from Everton for an undisclosed fee which is believed to be a fee around 12m-15m looks set to be the future holding midfielder at Ajax, the 25 year old was the first player to complete his medical over the weekend and was registered just in time for AVB's debut managerial appearance for Ajax and impressed as he bagged himself a goal 6 minutes into his own debut. This is the Belgian midfielder's 4th team to join but in his career he has had a lot of experience making over 322 appearances and it is believed his 323rd will be made tonight.

Pablo-Zabaleta-Stoke-City-008.jpg

Zabba to become Ajax' stone in defence?

The 3rd player to join the ranks at Ajax is Argentine defender Pablo Zabaleta, the 28year old was currently looking for a new challenge after 10 seasons of work at Manchester City and making over 200 appearances. Pablo signed a 3 year contract on the dotted line for a fee from Man City believed to be around the £12m mark in what was an expensive deal for a defender reaching his 30's but AVB has always been impressed by the defender when he worked in England with Chelsea and Tottenham. This signing will be a huge loss as Pablo was currently involved in one of his best spells playing with City but they will look to find a replacement quickly. The fourth transfer to be announced joining Ajax is wingback Glen Johnson, after enjoying a lavish career in England, it was believed that the English rightback needed a break from the rainy conditions over in the other side of Europe and after giving in a transfer request in Merseyside at Liverpool, Ajax came knocking and after a fee of around £10m with the big money contract on offer, there was only one place the 28year old defender was going..

2zr2dmq.jpg

A troubling twosome for all defenses to cope with

And for the final section of Part 1 of the Transfer section is the unveiling of two big signings for the club, seriously lacking both a front man and all round midfielder, there were 2 names that came straight to the mind of the scouting staff all around Ajax and this was to finalise the deals of Moussa Sissoko and Pablo Osvaldo. Unbelieveably, the Italian striker had been released at the end of last season at AS Roma after deciding not to extend his contract at the Italian club but surprisingly it was a shock to see that nobody after a good 25 weeks of being on the free-agent list had made a bid to sign him. It is believed that he has signed a 5 year contract at the club and it is hoped that he will start up front tonight! And the final player to join in this section of this write-up is the French upcoming superstar that is Moussa Sissoko, the 23 year old has impressed in 2012 and it was believed that there was a bidding war between at least 3 clubs to sign Sissoko but was undoubtedly going to Ajax winning the war after there most recent tycoon takeover. Sissoko was signed for around £9.3m from Borussia Dortmund and fans are looking forward to see the all-round midfielder in action.

AVB unable to pick up a win in debut appearance

Saturday 23rd February 2013

Amsterdam Arena (52,009)

Ajax 1-1 Lyon

M.Fellaini (6)

Y.Cabaye (43)

Marouane-Fellaini-of-Ever-008.jpg

Fellaini bags first goal in impressive performance

Expectations were high last Saturday for new Ajax manager Andre Villas Boas as he took to the stands for the first time after his abrupt resignation at Tottenham Hotspurs. After the lavish tycoon takeover only few players were able to be registered in time to make there debuts against Olympique Lyonnais these players included; Marouane Fellaini, Moussa Sissoko and Pablo Zabaleta, they were able to play after quick successful medicals while other signings such as Osvaldo and Robben had to watch from the stands.. The game started brightly for the Dutch side with much alot of attacking play, this was quite surprising after the criticism that was displayed very frequently by the media surrounding the counter attacking play from ex-Ajax manager Frank De Boer and with this new attacking style inforced by the young Portuguese manager Marouane Fellaini was able to bag a goal in his debut performance on the 6th minute but with a lot of attacking play can sometimes be a weakness for the other half of your pitch and an example of this was on the 43rd minute on the brink of half time where Yohan Cabaye finished off a well-worked team move to level the score 1-1. Both teams after this goal were unable to score past the opposing keeper to get that final goal, with Lindegaard and Vermeer displaying masterclass performances.. Next game for Ajax is away at Blackburn Rovers tonight in what could be a pivotal performance for the Reds as with a win they will edge closer to the play-offs/promotion spot where one play-off spot is currently held by the English side.

Flood of signings join Ajax! (Part2)

Chelseas-David-Luiz-celeb-008.jpg

Luiz joins on 5year contract!

It has been revealed in this second part of the section that Brazillian defender David Luiz is the latest player to join the exciting "revolution" at Ajax, David has been looking to make a move away from SS Lazio after making only a mere 13 appearances for the club. It had been reported that Lazio were extremely reluctant to sell there promising defender. The Brazillian can play anywhere in defense or in central defensive midfield and is set to make his most awaited debut on Saturday. The next player to join is most likely his partner in central defense Mamadou Sakho, the young French defender had been highly rated especially in the past when he signed for Schalke from Manchester United for a large fee of £30m but after a lack of appearances from the German side, it seems that Ajax was the 23 year old's only option.

Tottenham-believe-Lewis-H-008.jpg

Holtby holds a bright future.

Lewis Holtby
revealed a couple of weeks that he was unhappy in England at Liverpool, Lewis has been very un settled during his time in Europe and is hoping after completing a reported £9m move to Ajax that he will have a successful time in Holland, after being in football for around 6 seasons, it is fair to say it has currently been fairly dissapointing for the young German midfielder with him only making 56 appearances in all competitions.. The final player to join is the one player that can seriously challenge Lewis Holtby for a spot, making a name of himself in Holland already for AZ Alkmaar,
Adam Maher
has joined Ajax on an undisclosed fee and the signing come as a surprise to see a player with such potential join. It is believed that the scouting staff saw the youngster as one of there main objectives to bring in to Ajax, it has also been reported that he is one of few players to sign a 5 year contract at the club.

GameWeek 27 & 28 Update

'Wonderkid' Maher displays fine debut performance

Blackburn 0-3 Ajax

A.Maher (6,9,80)

763961bf260f2e03d69d4900f0638efb.jpg?adam-maher-krijgt-verbeterde-contract

Maher bags hat-trick in debut

After an unfortunate draw in Andre Villas Boas' debut managerial appearance at Ajax, the fans were hoping they could pick up there first win. After the flood of signings in Amsterdam, most players were making there debut of which included; Mamadou Sakho, Adam Maher and Alan Dzagoev but the youngest player of the bunch was the main man in Villas Boas' first away game. Adam Maher signed for Ajax on a 4 year contract where he is receiving £27,000 and this is a player whose future is a bright one. Ajax started the game very brightly with the young dutch 'hotshot' bagging in 2 goals in the first 10minutes and fantastically both goals were from free-kicks unbelieveably. Ajax made many attacks, overall in the game they had around 21 shots with 14 on target, there was a bit uncertainity at half-time to whether the strikers were up to the challenge of scoring or whether the goalkeeper was displaying a master-class performance but the game did finish 3-0 in the end when Adam Maher with 10minutes to go bagged his 3rd goal after a precise squared pass from Moussa Sissoko to provide AVB with his first away win!

Fans disappointed losing local derby

Ajax 1-2 Feyenoord

J.Clasie (30)

G.Fernandez (47)

A.Robben (52)

Ajax-fans-006.jpg

Fans expected Derby victory

Ajax fans were still on a high after an impressive 3-0 away victory over English side Blackburn Rovers but were definately not expecting a loss today in a much-anticipated game against local Dutch rivals Feyenoord. Ajax were set up in there normal 3-5-2 formation while Feyenoord played in there traditional 4-4-2 formation. The game surprisingly started very slow, where it took up to 30minutes for the first main attempt on target was performed and this shot became very pivotal in kicking off the match as Clasie volleyed in a well placed shot which crept past the post and in the net, from this shot the crowd came alive and the game started to kick-off but when the half-time break came, it couldn't have come any sooner for AVB's men as he looked on he shook his head after a poor first half showing and it was believed by fans that his half time team-talk did the opposite of encouraging the players as they conceded on the 47th minute, there was a slight fight-back when Arjen Robben pulled one back on the 52nd minute but they were unable to get a goal past there goalkeeper, when the final whistle came, fans weren't best pleased as they set a light fire-crackers.. Next game is tonight at home to Panathinaikos where they hope to improve on last weeks performance.

Re: Ajax | Rise To The Top

AVB gutted to miss out on Moutinho

Jo-o-Moutinho-006.jpg

Andre Villas Boas displayed his frustration earlier this morning after missing out on one of the biggest bargains of the season. It was confirmed earlier this morning that Benfica had signed the experienced Portuguese midfielder for a fee believed to be around £12m, Boas' frustration was compounded with the fact that it was thought that a deal for around £11m had been agreed with the chairmans of both clubs but with an 11th hour bid Benfica hijacked the deal bidding £12m. It is thought that Joao Moutinho was excited by the prospect of teaming up again with Andre after his stint a couple of seasons ago with Porto but the decision was out of his hands and he agreed to sign a 5 year deal with Benfica. Ajax are still looking to sign a midfielder but they will see that missing out on the capture of Moutinho as an opportunity well and truly missed. Sources tell that one of the midfielders on Villas Boas' radar is Mallorca's midfielder Jonathan De Guzman, one of Ajax's scouts was found at the recent Mallorca game and many believe that he was sent by the Portuguese manager to check up on the Dutch midfielder but no bid has yet to be confirmed. More news await.

GameWeek 29

Fans unsure after shaky start

Bremen 1-1 Ajax

P.Bargfrede (12)

L.Damiao (23)

Leandro-Damiao-008.jpg

Damiao bags his first goal for Ajax

It is believed that Ajax fans are very disappointed with the first 5 results brought to offer since the appointment of young Portuguese manager Andre Villas Boas. Ajax since the full take-over have surprisingly only picked up a mere 6 points out of a possible 15 (including this result) and with only 9 games left of the season Ajax see themself still quite a way behind the play-offs position (9points) it will take a miracle to overcome this deficit which will include Ajax having to win most of there remaining games to stand a chance of even picking up that important last play-off place. This game is one though that will surely be forgotten by most Ajax fans as they faced Werder Bremen in a game which turned out to be a boring 1-1 draw, away at the Weserstadion which saw a large attendance of 43,000 most were expecting a thriller game but were left disappointed. The first opportunity came in the 12th minute where Bargfrede took the ball forward and fired in a long shot and was able to zip the ball past Vermeer to give Bremen the lead, this shocked Ajax and they were forced to create some attacks of there own, one included 5minutes later where Robben's long shot just went wide. In the end Ajax did bag a goal, Damiao picked up his first of the season where he caught the keeper off guard to fire a shot past the defense and as both teams searched for a winner their seemed to be a lack of urgency from both teams as in the second half there was real lack of attempts on target, finishing off the game 1-1. Ajax are next in action on Wednesday at home to Portsmouth which has already been described as a "must win" game.

AVB proud of last 3 games.

Sissoko entered the scoring, in a record time.

As the season comes to a close, games are instantly arriving thick and fast, the games have been described as "stellar performances" by Andre Villas Boas, in the last 3 games, Ajax have picked up 7 points from a possible 9 points. The standout game was this victory over Portsmouth but other results included tonight 1-1 draw at home to Fenerbache and one of the games of the season "a 4-0 away win over CSKA Moskva." Before this game there was a lot of doubt whether AVB could pick up the wins after the discussions on whether his form would improve as manager of Ajax but this result proves all his doubters wrong. The game started at an "electrifying" pace as Moussa Sissoko "stormed" down the centre of the field to place a long shot past the Portsmouth goalkeeper, this was the first game since all of the new players arrived at the club and only 2minutes Lewis Holtby struck a powered shot from the corner of the box to put the fans into raptures but Ajax's best period of play came in the 10minutes of the 20th to the 30th where 3 goals were scored, one included a penalty from the inform German playmaker Lewis Holtby, Damiao and Osvaldo. This was quite a surprise to most of the fans in the stadium to see there team 5-0 up at half-time. Pompy attempted a slight comeback in the second half but there attempts weren't good enough. With 6 games left of the season, Ajax face Anderlecht away, where they need to pick up a win to fight for the play-offs!
