Chelsea have hijacked Liverpool's attempts to land the hottest non-League talent in the country.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed on Tuesday how the Anfield club had invited 18-year-old Daniel Carr, who plays for Dulwich Hamlet, for a trial.

Carr, who started his career at Reading, was on Merseyside on Thursday, training with the club's academy hoping to impress Reds coaches enough to earn a professional contract.

However, the Stamford Bridge club have now made their move to land Carr.

The current Champions League holders have spoken directly with officials from the Ryman Division One South club about inviting Carr to train with the Blues.

Carr was said to be flattered by the high-profile interest in him, but had not made a definitive decision on his future.

Liverpool and Chelsea are among 14 clubs to have made enquiries for the talented teenager, with both Manchester clubs also said to be interested.

Carr is viewed as one of the brightest prospects outside the professional game having bagged 23 goals in as many matches for the south London outfit this season.

He had an unsuccessful trial at Leeds United during the summer but came close to joining Championship rivals Charlton earlier this season after impressing Chris Powell during a trial. But that deal collapsed over financial issues between Hamlet and the Addicks.

Nurtured as a winger, Dulwich manager Gavin Rose has transformed Carr into a central striker this season with blistering results.

Dulwich ideally want to keep Carr until the end of the season as they look to win promotion, but know they will struggle to keep him if a big club make a firm offer.

Rose said: ‘At his age it is potential. But if he is taken by the right club and works hard he can play at the top level.

‘We’ve got to be careful that Daniel isn’t caught up in a circus. The important thing if he does go is that he goes to a club that really wants him.

‘We have reinvented him. He has only played here as a striker and he is a totally different player. He has got great movement and is very clever.

‘Daniel is decent technically, beats people on his own and scores all types of goals.’

Peter Crouch, Ian Wright and Alan Pardew have all played for Dulwich Hamlet.

See how the lad gets on Monday!

Re: Daniel CARR - Non league hotshot on trial at Liverpool

he got about 60mins in a thrilling 3-3 draw with West Ham, Suso (x2) & Sterling got LFCs goals, some absolute belters...

He made lots of good runs but didnt actually see much of the ball, some might say he was actually 'ignored' by the LFC young pro's...

BR watched him in person from the sidelines too..

Re: Daniel CARR - Non league hotshot on trial at Liverpool

i watched the full game again today to see him properly, made a few notes..

1 min: made a strong run wide and put in a decent cross to the far post, unfortunately the shortest man on the pitch in Sterling was the man attacking that cross, a bigger player most probably would have buried it.

10mins: first 10mins, lots of good movement, regularly was unmarked and played a high line on defenders trying to pull them across to create gaps for pacey players eg Sterling to exploit.

13mins: was completely unmarked at the far post but wasn't delivered the ball

At this point, i fully agreed with the commentary when they said along the lines of: " he looks completely at home at this level, looks like he has been part of the side for a while...." pretty decent considering he only joined up back end of last week

15mins: Sterling effort on goal. Ball played into Danny Carrs feet, without hesitation laid it wide for Sterling. Carr again made a good run into space anticipating a cross, Sterling went for goal.

17mins: Nice bit of skill, drove with the ball into the area, turned his defender inside then out again in the box and made a cute backheel to Sterling in space

24mins: Sterlings Goal - Good work by Carr, harried the CB in the area when the ball was loose and the CBs half clearance went to Sterling, sat up nicely and smashed it into the top left, keeper no chance.

28mins: DC always looking for 'scraps', closing down the keeper after every shot/opportunity incase of an error or keeper spilling it..classic poacher work.

after about 35-40mins though he faded out the game. Taken off after 60mins. You would have to say as a semi pro part time player, his fitness would be miles off so for the first 30mins he gave it his all.

Definitely worth another look, id go as far as saying worth a 18 month contract, get his fitness up and see what he can do.

Good little report by sounds of it will be a good player but not someone special i predict few years at liverpool before joining a mid table club

Re: Daniel CARR - Non league hotshot on trial at Liverpool

I also watched the game, in the first half I thought he was pretty decent. I thought his general player was pretty good as he was so comfortable on the ball however he never really got a chance to test their keeper. He barely got a kick in the 2nd half which was disappointing but Id say he is definately worth another look. In that first half he showed to me that he is at least on the same level as Adam Morgan who is just a poacher and doesnt really get involved in the general play. lets see if this kid can actually finish.
