Bayern Munich 1 - 0 VFL Wolfsburg

Before kick off this game was between top of the league Munich and 6th place Wolfsburg. Munich were recently defeated by fellow tital challengers Hamburger and were desperate to get back to winning ways.

With an injury to Sagnol the only change Johnson made was to replace the injured Frenchman with young German starlet Jansen.

As with many fixtures this season Bayern dominated the game and were on top of the word go, or in this case the first whistle.

Bayern got their noses ahead in the 2nd minute when the on form Eduardo Da silva bundled the ball over the line in the second minute.

Bayern went on to have over 60% possession and 28 shots more than double that off their opponent. Bayerns victory along with second place Leverkusens defeat meant that Bayern open up a three point gap.

Cagliari were no match for Fiorentina who ended the home sides unbeaten run by a single strike from Rodrigo Souza. The 64th minute goal from a corner was the telling point of the match.

Cagliari are tenth and need five points to challenge for a european place for next season.

Acquafresca played well but couldnt find the net.

Cagliari broke there transfer record securing the signing of Oliver Kapo from Birmingham City. The 88rated AM cost £8,000,000 and will make his debut on saturday against Torino.

The blue half of Merseyside was out in force yesterday to welcome home the teams return with the English Cup. Man of the match Yakubu had opened the scoring just after half-time with a screamer into the top corner, before inspired signing Tom Soetaers settled it late on with a diving header.

Manager Jimmy Mack said " Now that we have achieved our primary objective of putting silverware in the trophy cabinet we can concentrate on a top 8 league finish".

Clinging on...

With injuries to Louis Saha and Ebi Smolarek, and the added suspension of Scott McDonald, it was always going to be hard for Celtic at this point in the season, but with seven games left, they still lead the Scottish League ahead of Hearts.

Goals from Martin Stranzl, Henrique Ewerthon and Massimo Donati sealed a valuable three points for Celtic tonight as they won 3-2 keeping up their unbeaten home record this season at Celtic Park.

With Hearts thumping Livingston 6-0 at Almondvale, it was important that Celtic won and continue to do so, and their home form will be vital as the season draws to a close as they face Hearts at home on the second last day.

The Tynecastle side have the initiative with Celtic still having to play Rangers, Hibs and Hearts before the season ends on January 23rd. Hearts play Aberdeen next, but otherwise it is hard to see somewhere they will lose points.

Bayern Meet expectations in a dominant win !

Karlsruher SC 1 - 5 Bayern Munich

Bayern went into this game knowing they were 3 points clear at the top of the league but had Werder Bremen and Bayern Leverkusen breathing down their necks.

Bayern were expected to easily over turn their opposition, and did, very easily. Bayer dominated the game with 65% possession, and a impressive 28 shots against their weaker opposition.

The rout started in the 4th minute when the on form Van Der Vaart curled in a beauty from 25 yards, taking the Karlsruher defense by surprise.

After harassing Karlsruher's goal, Klose made it 2-0 30 odd minutes later after rounding the keeper. A mere 2 minutes later in the 38th minute made it 3-0, the coming from Hleb header.

Things did take a turn for the worst after Munich went 3-0 up, Micheal Carrick saw red after mauling an opponent in a horror tackle. Half time came and with 10 men Johnson had to re shuffle his side a little.

Even with 10 men, Munich came out all guns blazing. This blitzkreig strategy worked as Klose rose majestically to make it 4-0. Time went by as Bayern were mocking their opponents by passing the ball around and not letting the opposition get near the ball.

In the 81st minute Bayern broke at lightning speed, Van Der Vaart passed to Klose who jinxed passed two players before sliding the ball home. Straight after kick off Karlsruher scored a consolation, which was more than they deserved. MoM went to hattrick hero Klose.

The German hit man is on impeccable form, scoring 21 goals in 20 games, and obviously leading the goal scoring table !

Bayern Munich 5 - 0 Alemannia Aachener

Bayern defeat weaker opposition again making 10 goals in two games. Munich had 66% possession and 28 shots on the Alemannia Aachener goal. This win leaves them four points clear at the top with 6 games left. Hopefully Johnson can keep his team motivated and focused so they tip off a successful campaign with the biggest reward of all the league title.

The on form and impeccable Klose scored to make it 1-0 in the 1st minute, after heading in a powerful cross. The early goal rattled the opposition and Bayern just continued to apply pressure in which they cracked under. half an hour later Klose toe poking in a rebound from a van der vaart 35 yard shot.

Van der Vaart got his first of two goals in the 36 th minute after rising above his marker and nodding home simply. Bayern went in 3 goals to the good and looked strong.

The second half was also about consolidation and mocking the opoosition players for the delight of the Bayern Crowd. In the 60th minute Eduardo Da silva spanked one home on the half volley. The last goal of the game came in the 65th minute when Van der Vaart completed his brace after showing all his skill, strength and speed and rounding it off with a great finish. Lucio did get sent off late into the came but it came at no cost to the team or the result.

The Dutch ace is now the Bayern Fans firm favourite !

Another win, again!

Celtic continued their decent form, with yet another win, this time away at Ross County, with the clean sheet also important. It stretched their unbeaten home run to nine games, winning seven of them since the loss to Aberdeen on December 1.

Guillermo Rodriguez mad his debut since his from Independiente, as did loanee Jose Moreno, the striker who also moved from Independiente. And Moreno(34') gave Celtic the lead with a volley. And a goal from Andreas Hinkel(40') made it two at the break.

Mohammed Tchite(85') sealed the victory at Dingwall which saw Celtic stay top of the Scottish League and capped off a fine performance by the defending champions. Moreno got the MOM award, but Aiden McGeady again shone out amongst the play.

With Hearts winning again, their seventeenth in twenty league matches, kept up the pressure on Celtic as both are tied on 75 points at the top. There are six matches left, with Celtic five goals better off on goal difference now.

Tom's Ajax admitted they were chasing Brazilian superstar Fred but seem to have failed on his signature. " Yes he was a target, we were after him alot,"

But Tom hopes that doesn't depleate his summer spending plans and wants his team to come back from that and secure the dutch title.

A lead at the top!

Celtic tonight hosted Philp's confessed boyhood team Dunfermline Athletic at Celtic Park, but there would be no mercy from the boss as Celtic aimed to continue on their fantastic run of late, keep their unbeaten home record, and win the league!

Celtic managed to take an early lead, settling the team and the fans as Aiden McGeady(13') scored his 15th league goal of the season. Scott Brown(69') scored in the second half in what was the last goal as Celtic ran out 2-0 winners in the match.

But Celtic's injury woes continued as Scott McDonald, only just back from suspension was ruled out for another three weeks and will play no further part to the season, just like Vladimir Bystrov who has been injury-plagued since his move from Spartak.

But to lighten up the atmosphere in Glasgow, the news of Hearts' 1-1 draw at Kilmarnock meant that Celtic now lead the Scottish League by two points. They are also boosted with the return of striker Ebi Smolarek who has been out since November 2.

Atletico Madrid News

Spanish La Liga Matchday 34

Mallorca 0-2 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid continued their European Championship qualifying route after a strong win against Mallorca. Star striker Diego Forlan got the game going after 7 minutes, who slotted home a perfectly weighted pass from Reyes. Atletico continued to dominate the game with a whopping 65% of the possesion and creating 20 shots on goal, 14 of which were on target. The front trio of Reyes, Aguero and Forlan gave the Mallorca keeper and defence shovel-loads of problems and produced wave after wave of attack, making the Mallorca players embrace the half time whistle.

The Atletico Madrid players came out attacking as ever in the second half, with a change of personal. Juis Garcia came on to replace Maxi Rodriguez on the right wing and instantly got into the flow of the game by hitting the bar with his first shot. Young Sergio Aguero seemed destined to score by the match end as 7 Atletico attacks resulted in him either shooting just wide or forcing a spectacular save from Benaglio in the Mallorca goal. Aguero did get his tenth goal of the season on 73 minutes, with a calm side footed finish. Diego Forlan claimed the man of the match award. This win tightens Atletico Madrid's strangehold on fourth place. Their next test is Almeira at home.

Cska Moskva are facing a nail biting time at the moment, they haven't won in there last three games, they are currently second in the table. but a disapointing signing swap of fred for Vagnor love. Manager Daniel Bolam was pretty chuffed with that as they had another 5 million adding to there 55mil balanced. Freds Rating has now dropped to 91.

CSKA have now recently signed Ivan Helgura for 9 million.

And with a accepted bid that manager Daniel Bolam can't mention. That will add to a squad.

After the Calciopoli incident, which meant they spent last season in Serie B, this season was the chance for Juventus and their coach to regain their superiority in Italy, and tonight the majority of Italy will tune in to watch them play Inter.

A win at home for Juve, will see them crowned champions with 2 games remaining, after already winning the Italian Cup but failing to win the Italian Shield in the final.

Tony Baldo mentioned earlier, " With the season now nearing the end, the players will hopefully give it their all tonight then deservedly rest. Not many teams have met our form in Europe, and I'm definitely a proud manager. There are always areas which I'll look to improve but that's a while away."

Just a quick update, as I'm off on exam leave and have a bit of time!

Celtic news

After the SMFA Champs Cup exit to Chelsea, Philp saw it was going to be a tough run-in as Hearts stole the top spot in the league, and showed no sign of letting up at all.

Celtic then won eight of their nine next matches, disappointingly drawing away at St Mirren, missing out on the chance to regain top spot. But there was a twist on January 5th, as Celtic grabbed the initiative with Hearts only drawing with their defeat of Dunfermline taking them two points clear.

The last three matches saw Celtic face Rangers and Hibs, with the tie in the middle at home to Hearts as they still looked to remain unbeaten at home. A goal ten minutes from time at Ibrox saw Celtic beat 4-3 by their fierce rivals, as Hearts won and regained top spot, a point ahead.

And when it came to the crunch, and the Tynecastle side visited Celtic Park, Philp got his tactics and team selection spot on as they defeated the title runners 3-1, courtesy of goals from Smolarek, Tchite and Morel.

And Celtic now face Hibernian away at Easter Road, and know that if they avoid defeat of any kind, the title is theirs. The match is live tonight on Setanta Sports, with the kick-off at 8PM.

Boosted by the rating increases - McManus 89, Brown 89, McGeady 90, McDonald 89, and glad that Venegoor went down as I sold him. As I did with Caldwell who shouldn't be 88, and also Riordan, Wilson, Pressley, Hartley, Zurawski and Jarosik(an 88, you're kidding SM).
