Re: English Championship 28888

Wycombe Wanderers start the campaign with a 1-0 win against title contender's Portsmouth. It was a tight game upto the red card for Portsmouth's S.Thesker just before half time. The game opened up with both teams creating chances but a penalty awarded to Wycombe Wanderers was converted by Norwegian starlet Bard Finne to give the home team the 1-0 win.

Would have been delighted with a draw before the game due to the difference in squads between the two teams and I think upto the sending off a draw was going to be a likely result as both teams were evenly matched at that stage. The sending off if anything resulted in Portsmouth creating more goal scoring chances but unable to convert one of those and conceding the penalty at the other end meant the win goes to the home side.

I was targeting play offs before the season started so to get 3 points from the first game against a team most think will be right up there at the end was a pleasing effort.

Andy Burr was unable to prevent a Crystal Palace defeat to Aston Villa.

Crystal Palace slumped to a 2 - 0 defeat to Aston Villa in their Division 1 fixture.

No complaints here, Villa dominated possession. We could of snatched a draw, as we had similar amount of shots, but with the way Ter Stegen played...we would of probs needed another 20 shots to have scored!

Montero joins Leeds

Well, following the horror tackle in our first match that left Lasse Schone (87) with a broken knee and 7 weeks recovery period - we were forced to dip into our savings to find a replacement immediately.

Not ideal, and certainly not part of our master plan - but I think we picked up a reasonable player in Fredy Montero (86) - a Colombian on loan at Sporting Lisbon from Seattle.

I wouldn't have bought from the MLS - but Colombians have done well in Portugal in recent years and hopefully he'll be another one that forces his way into a regular first team slot at Sporting.

Sadly, we had to offer two of our veteran Englishmen is exchange to keep the cash outlay to a minimum - so not many English left at Leeds, meaning that we at least "look like a Premier League club" in respect of having only foreigners representing us these days.

No wonder our national team is in the dumps - but c'est la vie.

I'm hopeful that the likes of Byram, Lees, Poleon and White (all english) will emerge as strong players IRL this season. Also, we have Johnny Howson back, who I think will continue to do well at Norwich IRL.

Also brought in young German striker Daniel Ginzcek (84) in a straight swap for Noel Hunt - simply on the grounds that Noel is unlikely to rise above his current 84 whilst playing at Leeds and being 30+ years old.

Charlton (away) tonight - a match we should probably get something out of as we hold a slight ratings advantage over them. But you never know - so avoiding defeat will be a decent result for us.(as would avoiding further injuries and suspensions)

Martin Montoya (88) - our highest rated player - will captain the side in Howson's absence, with Andre Hoffmann (+2 to 85 this week) playing the anchor man role made vacant by Schone's injury

Montero's and Ginzcek's debuts will have to wait until they gain 100% fitness

Watford bounce from a bad start

Luis Veigas steered Watford to victory against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Watford outclassed Brighton and Hove Albion and beat them 2 - 0 in their Division 2 fixture.

Pajot had an impressive game and was voted Man of the Match.

Kelvin and Tzavelas were amongst the goalscorers.

Gutted to have lost the first game of the season when we really did not deserve to lose it but we bounced back nicely tonight!

Wycombe continue 100% record

After last weeks win against Portsmouth we followed up with another win against Accrington Stanley who also won last week, giving the team 2 wins from 2 games and leaving us in 3rd place on goal difference.

Next up is a game against Southend Utd who have 0 points from 2 games so a 3rd win on the trot would appear to be on the cards but you just never know with SM ;)

CHARLTON 1 LEEDS 2

Another costly experience for Leeds and a weird game all round.

Leeds got 70% possession - but only just sneaked the win

Aiden White got 2 x yellows , so he was sent off. I looked up his details and he's banned for 3 GAMES. That can't be right.

Montoya got the first from a free kick, Mujanga Bia got the second, Shawn Parker had a third goal disallowed - we were cruising to an easy win

Then the red card and Charlton pulled one back through Bennett

Leeds sit in 4th but face a tough Reading side in our first home fixture.

Three men down so far and only 2 matches in to the season
