Player Concerns

Re: Player Concerns

Good question.

The Online Help says that:

Within your squad:

- the highest rated players expect to play in approximately 85% of games;

- players that would expect to be in your first choice line-up and those rated 90 or above, will expect to play in approximately 75% of games;

- players that would expect to be a substitute if you selected your first choice line-up and those rated 89 or above, will expect to play in approximately 30-40% of games.

- the rest of the players within your squad will only expect to play a few (if any) games.

Therefore low rated players will sometimes still expect games and get unhappy if they get none. What the Online Help does not say (and I have no idea why it does not, I don't work for SM) is how many games low rated players might need.

The answer is that in determining concerns for players on the very fringes of the squad (like the player you have mentioned) SM applies a small random factor to the calculations as well as a fixed constant to decided the number of games the player requires.

The fixed constant for a fringe player in your club who is 23 or younger is 5% of games then +/- no more than one game. So, after 24 games they would expect to have play 1.2 games (24 x 0.05) which would then be adjusted to either 2.2, 1.2 or 0.2 games. This is rounded to a requirement for 2, 1 or 0 games.

Therefore, if you don't play a low rated player at all you might find that he does not develop any concerns for season after season, only to then develop one out of the blue.
