New Man Schalke

Tom Pham has been appointed as the new manager of Schalke 04, replacing Mirko Slomka, who finished in a dismal 16th out of 20. There has only been four new signings, and two players who went out so far.

Tom Pham has stated that he is targeting a top 5 finish next season, which means a UEFA Cup spot and also doing well in the domestic cups.

Transfer News

Tom Pham has accepted two bids for Soren Larsen and Mimoun Azouagh, totaling 7.3M for the pair. Pham said that he no longer needed the service of these two fringe players and he transfer listed them and got an instant reply.

Turin's New Arrivals

Attacking Midfielder Youssouf Hadji

Was acquired from Nancy late last season. Hadji was able to make his debut in the last match of the season.

Coach djp's comments: "Youssouf is a good addition that will add to our midfield depth and will help us compete in cup matches when Ibagaza or Tiago are not fit to play."

Left Midfielder Ramon Morales

ramon_morales_the_associated_press.jpg

Was acquired from Torino during the offseason. Morales will start at left midfield until Nedved is back in 5 weeks. Morales will make his Juventus debut tomorrow against Bari.

Coach djp's comments: "Morales is a fantastic player that will help fill the spot Nedved left. We might have over payed for him. But we felt we really needed him in order to be successful without Nedved."

River Plate here...

Thanks to getting far in the shields and cup I made enough money to buy a bunch of young talented players during the previous season.

So my players are mostly young talents, even the senior squad has an average age of 23.

Players like Ismodes (RM/W, age 19, rated 84) and Caicedo (F, age 19, rated 86).

I'm willing to trade 2 of those talents for an older, higher rated CM, CB or CF.

Interested? Well, send me a pm then.

So if you have a big team and want to offer me a good player in return for 2 young tallents...

Be wise... invest in the future!! :D

Scorers

Jonathan De Guzman (Feyenoord), 12 mins

Daniel Agger (Feyenoord), 43 mins

Gonzalo Rodriguez (Feyenoord), 50 mins

Andrei Arshavin (Feyenoord), 80 mins

Feyenoord got their season off to the best possible start as they convincingly beat Westerlo 4-0 away from home, the first goal came from the young Canadian midfielder Jonathan De Guzman on the 12th minute as he ran by a couple of defenders then cheekily chipped the ball over the keeper and it was new signing Daniel Agger who made it 2-0 on the 43rd minute as he rounded the keeper and finished calmly as Feyenoord went into the break 2-0 up.

Only five minutes into the second half Feyenoord found the net with their third goal through Argentinian defender Gonzalo Rodriguez and with ten minutes left on the clock, Feyenoord completed the rout as Andrei Arshavin nodded the ball home to make it 4-0 to Feyenoord.

Tony convinced Lazio are now his club.

After last seasons disappointment, Lazio were unable to secure any European football and this inevitably lead to a lot of criticism towards the manager. In a revealing interview at the end of last season, Tony did admit that he felt the squad was not responding and that after a discussion with the chairman he was close to leaving.

lapr_11317653_18050.jpg

However, over the break the tactician has spent a lot of time working on tactics, fitness and most importantly improving the overall team spirit. With this added motivation, at home last night the Biancocelesti brushed aside an improving Cagliari side 3-1, with goals from Anders Svensson and Tommaso Rocchi (2).

Whilst smiling, Tony had this to say afterwards. "With such good preparation, the result is quite pleasing. Last season I was just doing a similar job to my predecessor but now I honestly can say that I've made my mark on the club and that I'm "officially" in charge. Although the transfer market is surprisingly quiet, some have left and I'm actually quite keen on signing a few myself. A quality goalkeeper is my main target."

Tom Tomsk 2 - 2 Spartak Moskva

Spartak start with disappointing draw

Spartak's first game of the new season ended 2-2 against Tom Tomsk after a very disappointing performance from Winston's men.

They looked like they were still on their pre season warm up and did not show the quality that the players in the squad have.

The positive thing from the match was the performance of striker Roque Santa Cruz who has been impressive since he joined Spartak. He picked up the man of the match award after scoring both of his teams goals.

Moskva took the lead in the 26th minute when the ball fell to Santa Cruz a yard from goal with no goal keeper in the way and he lashed the ball into the net. 12 minutes later Tomsk equalized through Denis Kisilev's amazing 30 yard strike. The first half finished 2-1 to the Moscow team as Santa Cruz got his and Spartak's second just 2 minutes from the break after a goal mouth scramble.

soc_a_santacruz_412.jpg

(Spartak's Paraguayan target man cored a brace in the first half)

Tom Tomsk scored the only goal of the second half on 72 minutes when Dennis Kisilev latched onto a long ball forward and finished well. Spartak were terrible in the second half and did not look like a team that deserved to win and were lucky to escape with a point in the end.

In a post match interview, a very annoyed Winston said "Things are going to change, our formation will need tinkering with and I will drop players if they perform like that again. I am not happy with this performance and will b looking to add players to my squad in the near future".

Winston delight as Spartak pick up first victory

263.gifVS 258.gif

Spartak Moskva 1 - 0 Lokomotive Moskva

Winston's Spartak have won the first Moskva derby of the season in a tense encounter at Luzhniki Stadium. The Welshman's team were determined to get the win tonight after a disappointing draw in the opening match of the season.

Winston said, "The main focus this season is the League, it has to be. We failed to qualify for the SMFA competitions last season and we are a team that deserves to be there and will prove that".

The only goal of tonights match was scored by midfielder Vladimir Bystrov who capitalized on bad communication between the Lokomotive defenders let him in to finish well.

The match was not much of a spectacle but there are encouraging signs that Winston's methods are coming into play in Spartak's style of play.

Peaceful and respected

It's hard to say anything bad after this match. We prepared very well for this clash, its more than a simple Bundesliga match, its the local derby against our main city rivals. This is traditional, its about honours!

TSV was confused today, and we were able to use this and scored six goals. The team was fantastic, this match was more than a win! And I must say, hats off to Lion's fans, because after the match, there were no problems. They went home without making any trouble, the hardest thing was maybe that the ultras screamed sometimes "arschloch, arschloch". Thats was all, so respect for them!" commented by Mr HoW

Empoli make awesome start

106.gif

After 3 games the top of Serie A has a largely familiar look about it, with Roma, Juventus & Inter all amonst the top 5. It is the sight of minnows Empoli in 4th place that is the talking point in the italian sports papers, and it is made all the more impressive by the fact that the Azzuri have picked up 6 points from games away at Forentina and Inter in the last 3 days.

After a 2-1 win in Florence on wednesday, Empoli silenced the San Siro woth a 3-2 win over Inter last night, the defeat made all the more painful for Inter by the fact is was former player Nelson Rivas who scored the winner on the hour, to follow up his goal at Fiorentina, which also proved to be the winner.

Argentine winger Daniel Bilos has also been in fine form, scoring 2 and creating another already this season.
