Re: Sir Metz's SoccerManager Guide to Football/Soccer.

I would go with a defensive minded counter attacking style formation yourself' date=' such as a 4-5-1 defensive. Use a counter attack and target man, maybe try and use direct passing... otherwise, if you want to try and play them straight up, even though your players are fatigued, try using a 3-5-2 or similar formation[/quote']

Here is my team, sir metz, please help..

Aryaman...Sorry man!! I got busy and must have missed you post :o

Here is my suggestion though:

Casillas

Ramos-Terry-Juan- Bastos

Robinho-Alonso-Gerrard-Robben

Villa-Eto’o

Use a regular 4-4-2 formation, with men behind ball, tight marking, own half, playmaker as Gerrard, Target man as Villa or Eto’o (Use both target man and playmaker), have the LM and RM make runs down the flanks, mixed passing, normal tempo, normal mentality, corner taker as Robben, and Penalty taker as Gerrard.

You can also try having Alonso make a run back into the DM role, and Gerrard make a run into the AM role, however I haven’t tried this out myself yet. I think it woud work, but I don’t know how it will work with the game simulator, but it may help you be more dangerous in the attack, while still being strong defensively since you have Alonse at DM. If you do this, I would not have the LM and RM make runs down the flanks however, or you may open youself up to the counter attack.

Re: Sir Metz's SoccerManager Guide to Football/Soccer.

Sorry to ask again but another crucial match my opponant has been using 3-5-2 formation (with number 8 in the formation making a forward run) with these instructions :

Tackling Style: Normal

Mentality: Defensive

Passing Style: Direct

Attacking Style: Mixed

Tempo: Normal

Pressing: Own Half

Play Style: Counter-Attack

I'm also away from home and have an 89 average to their 87' date=' good luck:).[/quote']

If they are trying to pack it in on defense and get in behind, I would try and do the same to them. Go with a 4-5-1, but use an attacking mid however, instead of a DM. Use the AM as a playmaker and the CF as a target man. Normal mentality, mixed passing, play offsides trap, and defend own half. Hopefully with them using direct passing, and you having 5 mids and 4 backs, plus the offsides trap, you can get the ball right back easily, and then spring an attack on them.

Few questions, what Attacking style, Tempo and Tackling style should I use and should I have Counter attack and Tight marking switched on, cheers again. :)

Re: Sir Metz's SoccerManager Guide to Football/Soccer.

I would have a normal tempo, mixed attacking style and normal tackling style. If you have used the counter attack in the past and remember having success then you can use it if you want. I wouldn't use tight marking with offsides trap in any formation, because you risk having your players be too close to the offensive player for the trap to work....you want the other teams forwards to get away from your defenders to get offsides if that makes sense.

Re: Sir Metz's SoccerManager Guide to Football/Soccer.

Hi' date=' I play with Real Madrid and this tactic. Please can u help me what i need to change in my tactic. I have already played 3 match and i couldnt win.

Also i wanna play 4-3-1-2 plz give your advice. thanks a lot.

[img']http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/1189/43996515.jpg[/img]

I can suggest a 3-4-2-1

with that formation u will be able to score more goals as u have gud strikers already.. hey and albiol can be used as a sub..

cole pique an dvidic should be in the first team with vidic in the centre, cole to th left and pique to the right..

u can put rooney and messi up front and dzeko the target man, who will convert and poke in all the goals..

for midfield it should be xavi in the centre, essien to the left and get a CM or AM.. ronaldo can be used as a striker in place of rooney or messi..

that way ur attack and defense is being used the best according to me.. with attacking mentality please note that..!!!

hey tackling style should be normal, not aggresive because then u will get players who will be red carded..

Mentality:- Attacking

Passing and attacking style:- mixed

Pressing:- Own Half

and

Tempo:- Fast or Normal (Fast recommended)

Ok..

For runs..

pique, vidic and a.cole to make runs backwards..

essien also backwards..

xavi forward..

left cm(after u get one) to make runs backwards.. so that u have extra men to help ur defense and so that u dun concede..

rest let them be normal..

but u could make the frontier two to make runs towards the wings..!!!

Re: Sir Metz's SoccerManager Guide to Football/Soccer.

Hey guys , ive posted a thread in the tactical help section called 'A Winning team that keeps losing'

Love your opinions on my problem if ye have the time.

After reading sir metz thread, i am considering changing from my 4-3-3 (more in thread) to a 4-5-1 (to counteract my opponent tonight who uses 4-3-3)

Re: Sir Metz's SoccerManager Guide to Football/Soccer.

Hey Sir Metz, great guide. It helped get started on the right foot over a year ago. I almost broke into the top four with Wolverhampton (mostly the original players too).

I was very successful using a 3-5-2 with a lineup something like:

Wayne Hennessey (85)

Gianluca Commotto (88) Jody Craddock (86) Kevin Kilbane (87)

Karl Henry (86)

Greg Halford (85) David Edwards (85) Nenad Milijas (87) Stephen Hunt (87)

Robbie Keane (91) Kevin Doyle (87)

I would end up with either massive wins, tight draws, or slight losses (especially against teams with strong defense and midfield).

Now my squad has changed a lot, but I still am pretty successful (I don't score as much as I did.)

Wayne Hennessey (85)

Sebastien Corchia (87) Jody Craddock (86) Emiliano Insua (89)

Philipp Barfrede (87)

Matt Jarvis (87) Mario Gotze (86) Nenad Milijas (87) Aleskandar Kolarov (88)

Robbie Keane (90) Keisuke Honda (89)

I have been winning and staying undefeated, but I'm not liking the match reports. Most of the goals come in the dying minutes of the first half or just before the final whistle. I usually sub out all of my defense or some defense and some middies at 60 minutes.

I have a huuuuuge bench too. I like to switch my squads up a lot.

My question is why do the goals only come in (and then flood in) in the dying minutes? I would understand it if I subbed in all middies and attackers around 75, but the subs never do as well I think they will. The guys who score are usually middies who play all ninety minutes, all of a sudden they open up in the dying minutes. It makes me think I'm getting too lucky.

Re: Sir Metz's SoccerManager Guide to Football/Soccer.

I took over as Newcastle manager and did amazing in my first season finishing first with a really bad team. Second season, I bought in quality players yet finished fifth. It seems really strange how I did better with worse players. Now it is pre-season in my gameworld and I am about to start my third season as Newcastle manager. I am hoping this season will be really good and like my first one!

I have plenty of good players who are predicted to rise, but soccermanager is more than that... it is about winning matches.

My squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers

Sebastian Frey - 90

Aaron Fletcher - 60

Defenders

Thiago Silva - 92

Vincent Kompany - 91

David Luiz - 90

Mats Hummels - 90

Diego Godin - 90

Jerome Boateng - 89

Fabricio Collocini - 88

Midfielders

Nigel De Jong - 91

Yann M'Vila - 89

Ranieri Sandro - 88

Nuri Sahin - 90

Abou Diaby - 89

Mesut Ozil - 93

Charlie Adam - 86

Joey Barton - 86

Ganso - 88

Pedro - 92

Marko Marin - 90

Gervinho - 89

Wijnaldum - 87

Strikers

Marouane Chamakh - 91

Edin Dzeko - 92

Goran Pandev - 91

Radamel Falcao - 91

Or you can see http://www.soccermanager.com/profile.php?action=clubdetails&cid=1755718&clubid=5725591&sid=17528

Re: Sir Metz's SoccerManager Guide to Football/Soccer.

Yh and when ever i play 4-3-1-2 againest 3-5-2 ' date=' i lose bout 5,6,7 Nil[/quote']

Don't forget, it also depends on your tactics and your team's average rating.

A formation like 4-3-1-2 could beat a 3-5-2 in the right circumstances. If you know what you're doing, you can also have great success using a 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3 with wingers. But if you're uncertain, just do as Metz said and use a 3-5-2.

Remember, the key is winning the midfield.
