Re: Official World Cup 2014 Thread

Our first game against Germany will take place at 1.00 PM local time in Manaus in full tropical winter! At lunch time, it usually is right before the rain (it rains everyday) so it will be stuffy, suffocating and very very wet.

Germans be prepared it's not Central Europe weather!

PS: Sorry posted in the qualification thread.

Re: Official World Cup 2014 Thread

Nice draw for England, can actually play against some decent opposition and go into the knock out stage with some momentum and the games are actually worth watching. I wonder how France got that group though... oh wait that all come out in the week, not corrupt or anything.

Re: Official World Cup 2014 Thread

This is the official thread of 2014 fifa world cup in soccer manager forum, but no one is updating this thread. No problem, I'm going to update withe the latest information.

It's all set now, the journey of 2014 FIFA Worldcup is about to kick off on 12 June with the match of Brazil vs Croatia. A total of 32 nations have been selected for this summer season's world cup.

FIFA has declared that all of the selected nations must declare their 30-men squads list by May 13. And, the final 23-men squads list by 2nd June 2014. Let's wait some more days :)

Re: Official World Cup 2014 Thread

No Lucas Moura but Bernard has been included. Bernard might be a good talent but surely Lucas should be called up instead based on form alone.

I agree but Scolari just really likes Bernard and Hulk and for some reason doesn't like Lucas as much

And if I were Brazilian, I'd really want Miranda to be Silva's CB partner.

PS: "Hulk" is mistyped, right? :o

Maxwell has been terrific this season and a fully justified call-up, Henrique over Marquinhos and Miranda though baffles me

Re: Official World Cup 2014 Thread

I look at that squad and just think "meh"

Really ain't that scary looking at all IMO, obviously they will be one of the favourites and home advantage is massive but they don't really intimidate you looking at that squad on face value.

Lucas Moura -------------- Coutinho

------------Diego Ribas

--------- Pato ---- Lima

Luiz Danilo

Alex Sandro

Firmino

Adriano

Re: Official World Cup 2014 Thread

Henrique is former Palmeiras man and could play in right back though, as people said versatility could give you extra advantage going to the tournament when you don't know what kind of freak injuries could happen.

It's slightly better than that leak squad going around on social media when just 3 side back taken to the squad.

But yes, no Marquinhos and Miranda is a real shame

Re: Official World Cup 2014 Thread

Well, the most anticipated nations announce their squad today and no it's not England :P

Goalkeepeers: Shuichi Gonda (Tokyo), Eiji Kawashima (Standard Liege), Shusaku Nishikawa (Urawa Reds)

Defenders: Masahiko Inoha (Jubilo Iwata), Yasuyuki Konno (Gamba Osaka), Masato Morishige (Tokyo), Yuto Nagatomo (Inter), Gotoku Sakai (Stuttgart), Hiroki Sakai (Hannover), Atsuto Uchida (Schalke), Maya Yoshida (Southampton)

Midfielders: Toshihiro Aoyama (Sanfrecce Hiroshima), Yasuhito Endo (Gamba Osaka), Makoto Hasebe (Nuremberg), Keisuke Honda (Milan), Shinji Kagawa (Manchester United), Yoichiro Kakitani (Cerezo Osaka), Hiroshi Kiyotake (Nuremberg), Manabu Saito (Yokohama F Marinos), Hotaru Yamaguchi (Cerezo Osaka)

Forwards: Shinji Okazaki (Mainz), Yoo Okubo (Kawasaki Frontale), Yuya Osako (1860 Munich)

The most high profile ommision is probably Hajime Hosogai as Zac opted for Aoyama it seems. Okubo getting called up a rarity in Zac's tenure, but going by his form in past year domestic league it's hard to ignore him (and glad Kakitani also make it my personal fav).

Japanese also have a bragging rights when considers that Korea squad have barely 5 players in their squad coming from local league.

Japan will beat Cote d'Ivoire imo for the race to the 2nd place behind Colombia.

Wait until the defenders bottles it

Re: Official World Cup 2014 Thread

Interesting stuff, lads.

Apart from Akinfeev and Kokorin, Russia has a pretty average squad. How on Earth didn't Portugal finish above them in the qualifying group stage? :o

Costa Rica is one of the weakest teams in the competition imo. With Honduras, Iran and Australia (sorry, Cam! ;)).

It still puzzles me how Uruguay (a country with around 3 million inhabitants, if I'm not mistaken) has that much quality up front. And a few years ago, when Forlán was 5 times the player he is today, they were even more dangerous offensively.

Anyway, I'm sure neither Suárez nor Cavani would even make it into Portugal's WC squad! :P

Japan's squad looks okay, for me.

Really looking forward to the WC! :D
