Re: Official World Cup 2014 Thread

With the history of the referes helping the hosts.. Qatar a strong contender for WC 2022..?

Call Mohammed bin Hamman, he might have a little money left to bribe the refs (even though he's suspended from football for life)

Not sure what to make of that game, Neymar is being over congratulated about his performance tonight. Brazil were the better team for longer periods of the game but the referee gave them an advantage tonight with numerous decisions.

Would of like to of seen Rakitic play more of an offensive role and was impressed at times by the old boy Olic (apart from the Cryuff turn). For me however Paulinho had a really good game, was solid and motored on well.

*Extra- Srna was pap, the other full back Vrsaljko who I have never seen play before looked very controlling at times getting forward and constantly tracking back.

I'm not sure...

Andrés Escobar was killed shortly after the 94' US WC after scoring a similar own-goal. Mind, that knocked Colombia out (if I'm not mistaken), but still, the importance of football in the Americas is mind-boggling.

First thing that came to my head when Marcelo scored that own-goal. :)

Not very appropriate to joke about it in that case.

I wasn't thinking about that.

I was just thinking that Brazilians would have been mad if that own-goal had cost them the victory.

But the majority of Brazilians is worried about the huge amount of money spent in the WC, where all the profit goes to FIFA.

There is a lot of poverty and inequality in Brazil. The public transportation prices increased and many people don't have access to proper health care. :(

Not to mentioned the corruption in Brazil and involved in this particular WC...

Can't mourn about it forever though, can you? The death of Escobar raised a lot of awareness in times that Colombia were in a right state (as a country). It ended up doing more good than bad.

The thought of seeing Brazil turn against their own players, their own Gods, sounds appealing, considering their current state of affairs. Hence the link.

Personally feel like Croatia have been robbed of a point today due to very poor refereeing.

Looks like the occasion got to the ref and he caved a bit under the pressure of the crowd.

Still fancy Croatia to get through based on that performance as I can't see Mexico getting a draw against Brazil.

Well, who puts a Japanese referee as the referee for the opening match of the World Cup?

You can... It was a tragic event that shook the footballing world in a deep way. Nothing of such extent has previously happened before. Violence does not sound appealing to me in any contest. That's just my view anyway

Different point of view, but nevertheless valid.

My apologies.

It wasn't the occasion mate, it was FIFA. :o

I bet the refs have recieved specific instructions to make sure Brazil get very far in the competition.

Re: Official World Cup 2014 Thread

disappointed to see the hosts getting such an advantage from the officals in tonights fixture, don't know what the ref can say about not sending neymar off after that elbow/forearm to the side of mod's head, certainly can't claim that he didn't see him(thats neymar not seeing mod), even in normal time you clearly see that isn't the case

wonder if it was reversed the ref would of been so forgiving.

saying that though croatia have gotta drop pletikosa, you can argue neymars shot was unsighted and as far in the corner as it could of been but realistically he should of stopped it and oscars goal even though the run was good a national team keeper shouldn't be getting beat by a toe-poke along the ground from outside the area

don't even wanna start on the penalty call, really hope brazil don't even get out of there group, it would be hilarious,(even though i know it probably won't happen) way too many big-heads or atleast come across as arrogant,

only shining lights from tonights games i thought were oscar for brazil did a real shift (pretty much the only player i actually like in there starting 11 bar maybe thiago silva) and croatia's sime vrsaljko very impressed with him especially considering he was playing in his second position

also think gustavo's dodgy porn stash deserves a mention, must of lost a bet or something(i hope)
