Sergej is yet another proof of the old adage “the apple never falls far from the tree”. He was born in the family of sportspeople – his father Nikola was a decent football player and mother Milana was one of the best basketball players of Yugoslavia. His younger brother Vanja is a talented goalkeeper who also plays for the same club. Sergej is a product of Vojvodina Novi Sad academy – club very well known for its graduates, such as Vujadin Boskov, Slavisa Jokanovic or Milos Krasic, Dusan Tadic and Gojko Kacar recently. Milinkovic-Savic is a midfielder with incredible height, refined technique and feeling for the game. He made his first-team debut on November 23, 2013 under coach Marko Nikolić, in a 3-0 away loss to Jagodina and until today played in 2 SuperLiga matches. He also participated and won a title with Serbia at the 2013 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship, where he played a full 90 minutes in 4 of 5 games, including a final game against France.
