Gianluca Gaudino

Recommended Posts

Most of the Bayern fans and experienced scouts have heard of this lad before, but I figured I'd do a formal write up anyway here since he's not on the DB yet and because there hasn't been a thread about him.

Gianluca Gaudino, 17 year old Central Midfielder for Bayern Munchen's U19's, and son of former Frankfurt and German attacking midfielder Maurizio Gaudino.

Gaudino is amongst a number of other famous last surnames at Bayern, with Steeven Ribery(Franck's younger brother, FCB II), Lucas Scholl(Mehmet's son, FCB U19), Felix Gotze(Mario's younger brother, FCB U17), and Tobias Schweinsteiger(Bastian's older brother, FCB II), but it is him who has stood out greatly in the past two years.

Gaudino started with Bayern junior sides(for which there is no official data) before joining the U17's in 2012. Gaudino appeared in 24 of 26 games in the B-Junior Bundesliga South/Southwest, scoring once as he played a withdrawn midfield role in front of the defense.

After one season at the U17's Gaudino(along with Scholl) was promoted to the U19's last year at the age of 16 and appeared in 22 of the 26 games in the A-Junior Bundesliga South/Southwest, dishing out 4 assists in a withdrawn holding role again. Gaudino also took part in 5 games of the U19 UEFA Youth League, where he scored once and assisted once. Bayern missed out on last 16 qualification by a single point to Man City.

This preseason, Gaudino has been a regular starter for the Bayern first team(albeit the German WC contingent is absent) in a holding midfield role. Gaudino has started and played every minute of every preseason game for Bayern, quite an achievement for a 17 year old. He had his best performance against Chivas, and would have been Bayern's best player on the pitch if not for some 18 year old Dane. :P

He's definitely confident, and very composed on the ball, his first touch is excellent, allowing him to turn in and out of tight spaces quickly(as he did a lot against Chivas). Late in the first half, he received the ball in an advanced position, and proceeded to turn three Chivas defenders into spectators before finally being halted by the keeper. Gaudino should be looking at a FCB II spot next year, when he will be most likely added to the DB unless SM want to add him now for being in friendlies for the first team, but still without a professional club in FCB II or the first team.

Stay tuned!

Re: Gianluca Gaudino

I suppose I will give an update, has not played much after the regulars came back into the lineup at Bayern, but he has made the bench numerous times and came on a couple of times when the score was lopsided toward Bayern's favor. He was added as a 76 rating, now he is a 78, with another rise to the 80-82 range possibly on the cards.
