Aston Villa 2 - 2 Cruzeiro

Another draw ' date=' Fred was not particularly inspired today otherwise we would left with a victory, he missed many chances. Van der Vaart on the other hand had a great performance and scored 2 more goals, total of 3 goals in 2 matches and all of them was of free kicks! :).

Keep going Benteke - go you good thing for golden boot that's where I put my coins !!

Re: The Basement Version II - The Returning.

The final piece of the San Lorenzo jigsaw is complete for this season....

Adding some much needed efficiency and extra steel to the back and hopefully form a partnership with newly recruited Ashley Williams we have managed to tempt from the Bundesliga, Hannover captain Christian Schulz :) for a bargain 6.2m!!

Re: The Basement Version II - The Returning.

Granted the Almagro side left Portugal empty handed, but it sure wasn't Alvarez's fault. In spite of conceding 2 goals, the Argentinian GK stopped many shots, making him the best San Lorenzo player on the pitch against Braga.

van Aanholt

It looked like things would be going South for the Mackems, after Diakité's red card (in the 1st 15 minutes of play). The Dutch fullback was instrumental in keeping the Black Cats' defence stable, being voted Man of the Match for his performance.

It wasn't the greatest defensive performance by Sevilla, but Fazio tried to keep things steady at the back. He also scored the only goal of his team at the Stadium of Light.

The Brazilian CB played his 1st match in a Braga shirt and things couldn't have gone much better. Alex was crucial in keeping the arsenalistas' defence safe and made an assist! He was the best player on the pitch v San Lorenzo.

The Dutch international was one of the protagonists of the 2nd turn's most exciting game. He scored a goal and also got an assist.

He was Feyenoord's captain against Genoa. Like Sckaken, the Russian midfielder got a goal and an assist.

The Englishman was his team's hero, last night. He scored both Sunderland goals.

And guess who assisted Cattermole in his 2 goals? That's right, this Italian mid did! Giaccherini did exactly what is asked from him: create chances and serve his teammates, as well as he can.

Probably the most popular Braga player amongst the fans. Once a supersonic player, nowadays Alan relies mostly on his great technique and tactical awareness. One of the most intelligent players you'll ever see, this veteran can set his team's tempo, still create chances, score and help in defence. He scored 1 goal in Braga's 1st home league game.

He scored one third of the goals in this turn's most intense fixture. Despite the draw, Genoa's coach must be happy with Matri's performance in Rotterdam. After all, he did what a striker is supposed to do.

Remarkable! Dirk makes the Team of the Turn, again!

Best player on the pitch, Kuyt scored for the 2nd game in a row and is proving to be a vital part of Fenerbahçe's early league success. His outstanding game got him crowned Man of the Match.

SUBSTITUTES (honourable mentions)

Lille struggled again, but Souaré tried to steer the team in the right direction. He played well and scored the French club's only goal, before coming off the pitch, at 60 minutes.

He was Genoa's captain in Holland and was one of the most inspired players, managing to put his name on the scoresheet.

Another Fenerbahçe player, who performs for the 2nd league match in a row. Like Kuyt (although not as brilliant against Sevilla), the former Lille striker scored 1 more goal, after the one he got in the 1st turn.

This versatile Dutch player scored 1 of Feyenoord's goals in this turn's electrifying match, that ended 3-3.

Another player who performs for the 2nd consecutive game. After making the assists for the 3 Braga goals in the 1st turn, this time Éder did score.

Division 2 - Turn 2

Review of the Featured Match of the turn 2 of Div.2, Ajax vs Olympiacos.

Very balanced and intense match as predicted, Once again Ajax prioritizes the ball possession with 55% but brings no danger to the enemy area, with 9 shots with only 2 on the target while Olympiacos had less ball possession but every time they had the ball they would put pressure on the enemy team, total of 12 shots with 7 being on target. The big star Ronaldinho in the first game with Olympiacos shirt had a good performance and scored a goal, but it was not enough to give his team the victory.

Man Of The Match - G.Ronaldinho

Re: The Basement Version II - The Returning.

Victor Enyeama (Cruzerio)

The Cruzerio shotstopper was vital in ensuring that the likes of Benteke and Aduriz don’t end up scoring more than 2 as Cruzerio held on for a very entertaining draw against 10 men Aston Villa. Enyeama was vital as the Curzerio defense looked a bit out of shape on the night.

Martin Demichelis (Newcastle United)

Newcastle had a much tougher night than expected by the bookies at the betting corner as Basel took the lead, however Demichelis came up with a crucial headed equalizer and a fine performance at the back to make sure the score was 1-1. A fine performance by the world cup finalist all in all.

Inigo Martinez (Real Sociedad) ©

Inigo Martinez is probably even more happy than the picture above as he captains the team of the week side with an amazing performance in Sociedads 2-1 win over Galatasaray. The 83rd minute strike from the Sociedad center back proved the be the eventual winner and his performance also earned him a man of the match award.

Dusan Basta (Rubin Kazan)

Rubin Kazan was the team of the week and there were a lot of impressive performances in the side with one being Central defender Dusan Basta. His leadership at the back ensured that his side were the only ones to keep a cleansheet during the second round of fixtures in the division.

Mikel Gonzalez (Real Sociedad)

Assisted the equalizer as he becomes the second defender from the Sociedad back four on our team of the week. Combined with his assist he also managed to keep the likes of Yilmaz and Sneijder at bay for long periods as they ran out 2-1 winners.

Mubarak Wakaso (Rubin Kazan)

An excellent performance from the Ghanaian international against Lyon. He also scored the opening goal in the 13th minute to get Rubin Kazan on its way to an easy win. Helped Karadeniz control the midfield excellently.

Xabi Prieto (Real Sociedad)

Another addition from Real Sociedad and it is the captain this time who led from the front with the crucial equalizer and then also setting up the winner for Inigo Martinez. His performances in his team were only over shadowed by the excellent Inigo Martinez.

Rafael Van der Vaart (Cruzerio)

The midfielder from Cruzerio was on another level on the night with a goal and assist against much fancied keeper Claudio Bravo. The likes of Vlaar and Distin had no control over him, as VDV ran rings around them dictating play ensuring Cruzerio got a point at Villa Park.

Gokdeniz Karadeniz (Rubin Kazan)

Rubin Kazan were definitely the most impressive side of the weekend as they ran out easy winner against a much fancied Lyon side. The game however was truly won In the midfield where Deniz Deniz controlled the game and thwarted any potential attacks from big players like Gonalons and Grenier to limit Lyon to the lowest shots in the division fixtures.

Rodrigo Lima (FC Basel)

Was alone upfront for much of the match as Basel pulled off a great 1-1 draw against Newcastle United. Lima led the line well as he created enough trouble to limit the Newcastle full backs from attacking. A great performance capped off with a great goal.

Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

Benteke is proving his fans right with a great performance again after his week 1 appeareance in the honorable mentions. He was everywhere in the match as he combined well with Aduriz and Agbonlahor to muster nearly 25 shots for 10 men Aston Villa who lost a huge attacking threat in Carlosn Sanchez when he was sent off in the 50th minute.

Wesley Sneijder (Galatasaray)

Opened the scored early on for Galatasaray against Real Sociedad, however ended up being on the losing side. However Sneijder was not to be blamed for the loss and delivered the level that has come to be expected of him over the years.

Claudio Bravo (Aston Villa)

The Aston Villa vs Cruzerio game had two keepers in fine form as both kept our one shot after the other. Bravo did well considering Villa were bombarded after going down to 10 men early in the second half. A second great performance from the Chilean captain.

Carlos Vela (Real Sociedad)

Carlos Vela had a decent performance as he strung attack after attack for his team. He was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself but with the level he is at it might just be the next match.

Cesar Navas (Rubin Kazan)

Looked a bit suspect at the back against Gonalons however Navas came up with the goods as he assisted both the goals in Rubin Kazan’s win.

Pelendier Dagoberto

Came on as soon as Aston Villa were down to 10 men and slotted into the left winger position. Created a lot of problems for Vlaar and that consequently stopped Vlaar from feeding balls into Weimann. Solid performance from the Cruzerio substitute.

Re: The Basement Version II - The Returning.

GK: Moya (Celtic)

Keeping a clean sheet, despite 7 shots on target, Moya played a huge part in Celtic's biggest victory so far. With an important save halfway through the first half, he kept his team in the race when they were only leading by one goal. Resulting in a second goal shortly after, Celtic was never really challenged, but are proving themselves to be a well balanced team.

DR: Van Dijk (Celtic)

After an anonymous first game, Virgil van Dijk now finds himself in the team of the turn after a great effort against Sampdoria. The defender played a solid game, keeping the lock on the Celtic door. The Celtic back line is heavily representing in the team of the turn, proving their great partnership alongside results.

DC: Mulgrew (Celtic)

Another Celtic defender, Mulgrew not only played a solid defensive match, but also found the opportunity to score their third goal after 74 minutes of football. Playing exactly as their manager told them to do, the Celtic defenders paced down the wings as much as they could, with Mulgrew's goal as best effort.

DC: Viergever (Ajax)

After last weeks victory, Ajax was eager to make another three points. However, their lack of goal scoring players was just as obvious as last week. Viergever, who played an average defensive game, eventually was needed to net a 71 minute equalizer and to save his side a point.

DL: Izaguirre (Celtic)

The final defender to complete this weeks defensive line up is yet another Celtic man. Even more than Van Dijk and Mulgrew, Izaguirre was involved in a lot of forward action, pacing down the wing and putting as much balls in the box as he could. Unfortunately for him, non of his effort were cashed in by the strikers, yet his performance was not unnoticed and earned him his spot in the team of the turn.

DM: Kayal (Celtic)

Despite being positioned as the defensive midfielder, Celtic's dominance over Sampdoria left Kayal with more of a play making role, which he took on gladly. Constantly looking to intercept or to receive the ball from the back line, his forward passing put Celtic strikers and wingers in and around the box time after time. Just before half time, Kayal made his run through the midfield, leaving opponent goalie Romero without chance as he scored the second goal.

MR: Osman (Metalist)

Playing in between defense and midfield, Metalist captain Osman didn't have his eye set on getting anywhere near the opponent goal today. However, when a penalty was giving only one minute after opponent Hoffenheim opened the score, the skipper knew it was up to him. Experienced as he is, Osman simply sent the goalkeeper the wrong way and netted the ball in the corner.

ML: Ganso (São Paulo FC)

Coming from the center midfield, São Paulo's Ganso was looking for ways to sneak into the opponents box or cut their defense in half with one of his passes. It took him until well after half time to finally grab his moment, after receiving the ball on the edge of the box he effortlessly put it in the top of the goal, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Unfortunately for Ganso his teammates got lost in the euphoria, a massive mistake from goalkeeper De Sanctis led to an equalizer only 3 minutes later, leaving São Paulo FC with just one point.

AM: Ronaldinho (Olympiacos)

What seemed to be going to be a invisible first half, quickly changed into the Ronaldinho show when he tried his luck with a cheeky flick at goal, putting his team in a 1-0 lead just before half time. He came close to scoring the winner in the second half, but the opponent goalkeeper saved his effort. Nonetheless, he took home the man of the match award, and also finds himself in the team of the turn, altogether not such a bad turn for Ronaldinho.

FC: Volland (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim)

The only player to find himself in the team of the turn two weeks in a row, Hoffenheim's Volland simply picked up where he left last week: by scoring goals. Only 21 minutes into the game, already into his third effort of the game, he created space for a shot and beat the goalkeeper. Despite more chances in the second half, his efforts weren't enough to secure his team three points, being stuck on 1-1 like most other teams this week.

FC: Almeida (Celtic)

It may not come as a surprise that this weeks player of the turn comes from the Celtic side, being the only team that won their game and scored some goals. Almeida was voted man of the match after scoring the opening goal, after just 9 minutes, and assisting the third goal, after a great interception in midfield. His overall play brings him this weeks title, in only his first game for Celtic.

Player of the turn

Fabiano (São Paulo FC)

Lacked goal scoring efforts this turn, but gave the assist to the opening goal.

Matthews (Celtic)

Could've showed more attacking efforts, after giving the assist for the opening goal after just 9 minutes.

Schwegler (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim)

Tried to be involved in the attacking play, leading to the assist of his side's only goal.

Re: The Basement Version II - The Returning.

Sean McEvoy (wolfy102 Forum) steered Celtic to victory against Sampdoria.

Celtic beat Sampdoria 3 - 0 in their Division 2 fixture.

Almeida scored a goal and was later voted Man of the Match for his performance.

Mulgrew and Kayal were also amongst the goalscorers.

Big result for us after our opening day defeat, and in my opinion a deserved result (sorry Andy :P). Especially keeping a clean sheet is a bonus against a strong team in Sampdoria.

Also great write ups by all :D

Re: The Basement Version II - The Returning.

I like how u end ur reviews, Laura. :D

PS: I remember why, in my 1st review, I could post all the pics I wanted, unlike in this last one.

I just noticed I had only included the starters' pics (what I'm gonna do from now on), while in the 2nd one I tried posting the pics of every player. So, I figured it out... :o

I'm also starting to ellect the Player of the Turn (captain).

Just to be fair, here are the ones from the 1st 2 turns:

Turn 1 - Mannone

Turn 2 - Kuyt

Division 3 - Turn 3

[MOVE]Featured Match | Featured Match | Featured Match[/MOVE]

Sunderland-Sporting de Braga

Sun, 31 Aug 2014

Stadium: Stadium of Light

With Turn 3 coming, the 2 teams in the featured match haven't lost yet. Or drawn. Two top managers will meet in a head to head for 1st place. Lee Cattermole of Sunderland is expected to make a big impact on the game having already put one in the net twice in two games this season. For Braga, the player to watch out for is Eder Lopes, he's like the Fabregas of the gameworld scoring once and assisting 3 times.

[MOVE]Featured Match | Featured Match | Featured Match[/MOVE]

Genoa CFC-San Lorenzo

In what should be a high scoring match between two more offensive teams, expect lots of goals from players such as Clint Dempsey of Genoa and Rodrigo Palacio who will most likely be making a debut.

These 2 teams face off in a very interesting match that almost deserved to be the Featured Match. Sevilla could pull off a tough away win with top striker Moussa Sow injured for the Turkish team. Fenerbahce will need to rely on Dirk Kuyt to step up in Sow's absence.

Feyenoord-Lille OSC

These two teams have just 1 point combined two games into the season. Manager Allan Zhang's tactics usually tend to earn him wins, though it hasnt been the case so far. With a lower rated Feyenoord side, he surely won't be parking the buses, but will to have to beat the top GK himself, Tim Howard to earn a win.

Celtic VS Metalist

Sun, 31 Aug 2014

Stadium: Celtic Park

The Featured Match of this turn features 2 teams that are considered the underdogs of Div.2 and they have made good performances in the first 2 games. Despíte the defeat in the first game against Hoffenheim, it was a close game and Celtic had a good performance, then in the second game Celtic surprisingly outclassed a strong side Sampdoria and beat them 3-0, while Metalist managed to get 2 points against Olympiacos and Hoffenheim when they were considered the underdogs for both matches. The 2 stars for this match are Hugo Almeida for Celtic and Claudio Pizarro for Metalist, both of them played together at Werder Bremen and now they will play against each other, who will perform better and help their team win?

[MOVE]Featured Match | Featured Match | Featured Match[/MOVE]

São Paulo VS Hoffenheim

Sun, 31 Aug 2014

Stadium: Morumbi

São Paulo got only 1 point from the first 2 games, they barely missed the win, they had better statistics on both games, with good attacks but they are lacking performance in defence. While Hoffenheim got 4 points, but they still haven't made a convincing performance to prove their favouritism, with a close win against Celtic and a disappointing draw against Metalist, and they got 2 important attacking players injured from last game.

Ajax VS Sampdoria

Sun, 31 Aug 2014

Stadium: Amsterdam ArenA

This should be a very interesting match, Ajax sits in 1st place with 4 points after 2 thrilling match against Boca Juniors and Olympiacos. While Sampdoria had a turnaround win against São Paulo in the first game and a shocking 3-0 defeat for Celtic in the second game and are yet to make a consistent performance.

Boca Juniors VS Olympiacos

Sun, 31 Aug 2014

Stadium: La Bombonera

Both teams are still looking for their first victory, Olympiacos barely missed 2 times, getting 2 draws, while Boca got 1 draw and 1 loss from the first 2 games, and they got 1 important player Gigliotti injured from last game and now they will probably have to play defensive with only 1 (FC) or replace him with a 84 rated (FC), while Olympiacos has a huge attacking power, the player to watch is Ronaldinho.

Just read through the thread to get myself up to speed and there is some great work being done. Well done to all and it is all hugely appreciated. Shame Nitemarre can't do a preview for this turn, but it is going to happen from time to time.

No problem - you guys are doing a remarkable job - I wasn't serious about Kalou but I found it weird that Marvin Martin was actually being considered for top scorer

Re: The Basement Version II - The Returning.

Well once the final player is sold in Gutierrez who is surplus to requirements I will have brought in 34.5m from offloading all the dead wood. Only 5 players aged 30+ and three of them were brought in this season.

With a few players who I expect to get a rise in Dummett, Colback, Williamson and perhaps Riviere the latter more likely due to game time rather than doing anything of any real note as well as risers for Darlow who has been outstanding IRL so far this season for Forest then the future looks bright for Newcastle.

Fully expect to have close to 50m by the start of season 2.
