BACK TO BACK VICTORIES AGAINST FIERCE RIVALS SAMPDORIA

In a fantastic week of football for Genoa, where the team travelled to its own stadium Luigi Ferraris as the "visitors" twice, Genoa claimed two decisive victories against rivals Sampdoria in the first round of the Cup as well as in the league.

In the first game, Tom Pham decided to make a few changes to the team, with Hugo Lloris, Damien Delaney, Nathaniel Chalobah, Jack Cork, and Mario Pasalic making their debuts for the side. Pham's decision to field a weaker side seemed to be a bad one when Adam Lallana opened the scoring for Sampdoria in the 14th minute as he managed to beat Hugo Lloris from close range. As Sampdoria looked closer and closer to progressing through to the next round, once again the two stars Cesc Fabregas and Steven Naismith linked up for a wonderful goal to push the tie to penalties.

However, during the penalty shootout, both goalscorers managed to miss their penalties. First, Adam Lallana placed the ball wide of the post before Steven Naismith could not beat Ben Foster a second time as his tame penalty was easily pushed away by the goalkeeper. However, in sudden-death, young midfielder Jon Toral blasted the ball over the bar before Mario Pasalic calmly sent the ball the other way to send Genoa through to the next round.

Two days later, the two teams faced off once again as both Sampdoria and Genoa restored the teams to their favoured lineups, with Genoa only making one change from their league lineup as Steven Naismith was unfit and was replaced by Jack Cork. Sampdoria saw star players Daley Blind, Romelu Lukaku, and Alexis Sanchez return to the starting lineup.

In a high-scoring game of all-out attack, Genoa used its clinical finishing to punish Sampdoria as the teams combined for 31 shots and 22 on target. In a game of high-powered attack, Genoa was the first to draw blood through Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel as he chested down a beautiful through ball from Cesc Fabregas and beat Ben Foster. However, Genoa's lead did not last too long as Dusan Tadic scored two goals in just two minutes, beating Thibaut Courtois with a beautiful curler and a free-kick. However, just minutes before the break Cesc Fabregas bagged his second goal of the season with a powerfully-struck free-kick after Daley Blind took away Tomas Rosicky's legs on the edge of the box to tie it up at 2-2 at the break.

The second-half provided even more goals for the spectators as Tomas Rosicky notched his first goal this season, taking advantage of Marco van Ginkel's beautiful pass. However, Dusan Tadic once again provided an instant reply as he netted his hattrick only one minute later, beating Thibaut Courtois at the near post. Cesc Fabregas once again came to the rescue for Genoa however, as he helped secure all three points as he completed his hattrick with two more goals and added another assist to complete a wonderful performance where he netted three times and added two assists. His first goal came only three minutes after the equalizer, as he once again managed to beat the goalkeeper with a free-kick, before another free-kick in the 72nd minute was poked home by Tomas Rosicky. Cesc Fabregas completed the rout in the 84th minute as he beat Ben Foster the third time that evening with a well-struck finish.

The team will host Italian side US Palermo at home come Sunday, who Genoa overtook in the table to take top spot as both Palermo and Metalist were handed their first defeats of the season. Genoa are currently first with 10 points after 4 games, giving themselves a one point gap between both Palermo and Metalist. Palermo has the league's stingiest defense, having only conceded 2 goals all season, and Genoa will have to look out for the threat posed by Samir Nasri and new signing Juan Cuadrado.

Re: Cam's Premier League World

Fans Get Their Money's Worth at Chievo.

In a match where it was already reported Cam Lucas would send out a greatly weakened squad away from home, many believed Chievo to be favourites, and it seemed the case until some Red Card action!

Chievo started out well on top, dominating possesion but it was man of the moment Dorrans, after scoring the final goal against Espanyol in the cup that scored on the first Counter attack from a great pass from debutant Besic.

just 14 minutes in a shock 2-0, as Gayle, also on debut cut a ball in to Shelvey to blast home. An Instant reply though as from the kick-off MotM Gomis set up Bojan for his first. Chievo were well on top of the game despite the score when Jagielka got his second yellow for a bad challenge on Dorrans.

Cue Shelvey's Second goal just before a Gomis effort and its 3-2 at HT. Despite having 10 men Chievo still were on top of the game and got Dividends through a Bojan second. On 65 Minutes sensation Dorrans wound back the clock once more for a fine effort to put us 4-3 up. RC Lens held out wave after wave valiantly, but on 87 minutes, Gomis collected a Bojan past to ruin Ospinas day further and ensure a point for each team. WHAT A GAME!

Rumour has it Dorrans and to a lesser extent Shelvey have impressed so much they will both feature against Espanyol in the upcoming Fluffy-Lucas league derby.

Result

A Scintillating 4-4 Draw.

GENOA 0-3 PALERMO

After a fantastic start to the season and beating fierce rivals Sampdoria in back to back performances, including a stunning 6-3 victory in the league, Genoa were brought back down to Earth with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home. With goals from Mikel Arteta, Sadio Mane, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Palermo cruised to a simple victory. Palermo had also dominated the whole game, having twice as many shots as the home team Genoa.

GENOA 1-0 RC LENS

Tom Pham's side bounced back with a victory over RC Lens in the Quarter Finals of the Cup, thus booking a semifinal tie against Tottenham Hotspur on next Tuesday, the 24th of February. Tom Pham also handed out a debut for young striker Islam Feruz. Fielding a semi-weakened side with the likes of Oliveira Wallace, Hugo Lloris, and Mario Pasalic. The only goal of the game was scored by Scottish forward Steven Naismith, who got his second in two cup games, as well as being awarded his second man of the match award. However, it was not all roses for Genoa as defender Kenneth Omeruo was sent off in the 82nd minute for two yellow cards.

JUVENTUS 1-2 GENOA

Looking to also bounce back in the league, Genoa made a short trip to Turin to face Juventus, a strong side featuring the likes of Borges Willian, Jan Vertonghen, and Petr Cech. It was the hosts who struck first via Jan Vertonghen as he smashed the ball into the top corner. However, the lead did not last long, as Tomas Rosicky nodded in an equalizer in the 13th minute, before Graziano Pelle won the game with another header via a Darren Fletcher cross. That goal broke the duck for the Italian man, as he managed to notch his first goal of the season.

Genoa will travel to Ukranian side Metalist, who are currently third in the table with 10 points. The recent results have seen Genoa move up to second place, with 13 points, trailing only US Palermo on goal difference.

Re: Cam's Premier League World

FC Nantes (Keystone) have signed Santos Gerson who is completely ineligible for this gameworld (im guessing he probably just spammed bids for him in all GW's).

Nevertheless the sanction hammer must be wielded.

Buying a non-eligble player - Immediately Disqualified from all bonus competitons. Player must be RELEASED as soon as TB is up.

In the event Nantes qualify for a signing bonus, the runner up in that competition will recieve the bonus. Player must be released for 100% financial loss at end of TB and cannot be played.

Re: Cam's Premier League World

US Palermo dominated much of the play against Chelsea but could only manage a 1 - 1 draw in their Division 2 fixture.

Caballero had an impressive game and was voted Man of the Match.

Oxlade-chamberlain was on the scoresheet for his side.

We just managed to hold on to top spot. We have to thank our GK for this point.

I don't think I've ever scored 5 in a game and lost. Might have to drop Courtois after that shocker of a performance. :o

Seems like a realistic scoreline, right, match engine? :D

On that note, I once won a match by 8-4. :o
