Prediction: Seattle will be hosted by Cologne having stayed in Germany after their match with Stuttgart in the previous round rather than have the big flight round trip. Cologne were stymied in the last game by the stiff tackling on playmaker Kranavitta and I am sure Seattle will try to do the same. Seattle will be without Foket who has a shoulder injury which will likely see Jara as his replacement. I expect the Sounders to be too strong for the hosts but the week long stay away from home may affect them. In the end a close game with Sounders to scrape home. 0-5 - OH DEAR!

The result in this game did not reflect the stats...almost even possession...5 shots on goal apiece. Both keepers equally efficient but the Sounders just simply could not stop the ball going into the net. Strangely Januzaj for the Sounders even won the MOTM award for his performance in a losing team. It took 15 minutes for Cologe to get on the board when, as is often the case, the visitors gave away a free kick within striking range and Rabiot made no mistake. 1-0. I did say in my preview that Kranavitter would be a danger if Seattle could not keep him under control and so it proved in the 21st minute when a fine through ball from the midfielder found Ocampos and the score was 2-0. The murcurial Januzaj was  proving difficult to control and in the 33rd minute found Captain  Ronaldinho who made space and passed the ball into the corner to drag one back for the visitors. In the second half Kraft made a number of great saves to keep some hope in the match for Seattle but in the80th minute Bernardeschi hit a classic from 30 yards that flashed past the despairing hand of the keeper to givev Cologne the lead they would keep till the end of the game. Final Score 3-1

150x_newcastle.jpg                     V                     150x_Celtic.jpg

Prediction: Newcastle will welcome Celtic to St James Park. Newcastle will be looking to make a good impression after an unlucky result in their last game while Celtic will be looking to build on a great win at PSG. Lustenberger will be missing at the back for Newcastle which will probably mean Keane will come in to replace him. This should be a top game and in the end I think it will finish level. 0-6 SIGH!

Even though possession was fairly even a MOTM performance from the Newcastle keeper Rico was not enough to keep them from a home defeat. Keane and Briand for Celtic are starting to become a very dangerous pairing. Both of them have two goals from three games and they scored either side of half time to get all three points for the visitors. Pienaar became provider for the first in the 40th minute when Robbie Keane slipped past his marker to latch on to the pass and make it 1-0. It went until the 72nd minute when Hojbjerg found Briand who slotted one back past the keeper. 2-0. Newcastle are simply not creating enough chances with only 3 shots on target against 7 for the visitors but Jese did get the consolation in the 83rd minute from a free kick that he blasted over the wall and Hassen simply could not stop it. Rico kept the score respectable with a couple of fine late saves from Briand but the score ended 1-2

150x_Guangzhou-Evergrande.jpg                    V                     150x_Hertha-BSC.jpg

Prediction: Guangzhou welcome Berlin to the Tianhe stadium where manager Gozzy has some work to do with his defense which has leaked 7 goals in just two games. To make it worse 2 of their defenders will be out...probably for two matches...so trying to settle the defensive group will be even more difficult. Dendoncker should get a start with most pundits a bit bit surprised he has not made an appearance before this with maybe Elvedi to also com in on the right side although Antonio could also fill that role. Still it will be difficult for the home side to get it together I feel and Berlin should notch their second win of the season. 1-6 HOORAY!

Manager Gozzy certainly had done some work on the defense during the previous week and Guangzhou certainly closed up the ranks for this game. Dendoncker still cannot get a start and he must be mightily unhappy with this but the improved performance from the Chinese saw scores level at half time during which time Sels had kept the dangerous Shane Long from opening his account. It took 51 minutes but Long finally made his mark whan a ball from Brooks found him unmarked and he drilled it home past the diving Sels. guangzhou came back at the visitors hard and Smeichel made two brilliant saves as the game drew to a close. Manager Closer will not be happy with the loss but he will be pleased with the much improved defensive display from his team. If they can maintain this standard they may be able to notch up a win in the near future. Final Score 0-1

150x_clubamerica.jpg                    V                      150x_Manchester-City.jpg

Prediction: The only 100% team in the league, Club America, will go under the microscope today as first play second in the Match of the Round. Both teams are scoring well with 5 each in two games and City have conceded only 1. Sanches will be out of the midfield for CA and will possibly be replaced by NDONG. Club America keeper Tatarusanu is in sparkling form at the moment but the attacking prowess of Cambiasso, Mina and Brandt will mean he will have to be. I think City have the edge here and should take the points but only by the odd goal. 1-7 AAARRRGGGHH!!!

Possession was even in this came but the hosts managed 7 shots on target to just 1 for the visitors and that makes it a hard match to win for City. Both teams have been scoring well so it was a real surprise when the first half was goalless. It was not until the 52nd minute that Asensio spotted an unmarked Janssen making a run in the box and the latter made a cheeky flick around the keeper to open the scoring. Both Mina and Melgarejo are starting to make a real mark on this competition. Mina has two goals, two assists and a MOTM performance to his credit in three games but he was outshone today by Melgarejo who now has 2 goals, 1 assist and a MOTM to his name. It was Mina that got the ball through to Cambiasso  who opened the scoring for his side in the 65th minute with w fierce strike from the edge of the box, directly in front. and 14 minutes later the same player was unlucky tnot to make it 2 with a superb strike from a similar position that zipped past the post. It looked like we were heading for a draw but with 5 minutes to go the wily Cheryshev fund Melgarejo unmarked and he shipped the keeper for a winning goal. with two minutes on the clock Chambers had the chance to even the scores but shot wide and it was this lack of accuracy that really cost the visitors the game today. Club America remain the only unbeaten side in the Division now and Whisperr and his Berlin players will need to be oon the ball when they meet in a few days. Final Score 2-1

Doing a great job here with the predictions and reports, always a very fun way to get familiar with other squads. I wish I had time to contribute but I'm currently too busy with work, didn't even have time to set my tactics (which obviously led to me bagging more wins than ever last turn, lol). When things cool down, I'll definitely join in.

MATCH DAY 4:

First today lets look at the game between the current 7th and 8th placed teams. Feyenoord are the hosts and are unbeaten in the league after 3 games. They are not scoring as many as perhaps they would like but they are conceding less than a goal a game. Manchester City on the other hand are scoring at two a game but have still been unable to get more than 4 points from their three games. SHould be a tight affair but with the home ground advantage the Light Blues should scrape home.
Sunderland return to the Stadium of light after taking a point away in their last round and now sit 6th in the league with opponents Ajax above them on goal difference. Winger Sisto will miss the game but Camasara will still be a problem for Ajax who will be missing Jedjav in defense. Origi is on fire with two MOTM awards in three games and may well be too much of a handful for the home side. However as they have Camasara in great form as well I am going to go for a draw in this one....assuming Butland doesn't give the visitors any gifts.

Eleventh placed Stuttgart will make the short trip to Hanover who have yet to get a win this season. Charlie Adam in the nidfield has been good for Hanover and Osman had an excellent game last start with two goals to his name. Manager KJKJ has settled in with his new club more quickly than was expected and their 2-0 win over Atletico in the last round showed some class. Stuttgart to continue their climb with a win.

Atletico manager Lucas will be wondering where his first goal is coming from when they take on PSG at Vincente Calderon. Puncheon is sidelined for the home side with a shoulder injury which may keep him out for at least three games and this may see a chance for Albrighton to to get a start. PSG are full of goals but their defense leaks like a seive so if Atletico are going to break their duck this might be their best chance. Sessgnon and Gutierez have been leading the line for the visitors and these are the danger-men that the home side will need to control. However I think that Manager Lucas may turn things around this week. A home win against the odds is forecast.

13th placed Eintracht Frankfurt will play host to 4th placed Cologne and are on the slide a bit after consecutive losses. Delli Alli has been brilliant for the home side but they need to find a way to get him more support. They had only three shots on target in their last game. Cologne had a strong win at home against Seattle last time out and are staking an early claim to be in line for the title. Frankfurt will struggle to control Kranavitter and Ocampos and I can see the visitors continuing their march to the top.

Seattle will be smarting after losing a game they were expected to do much better in and will be a tough handful for the visiting Newcastle team that also lost their last outing. I think Seattle will have too much strike power for the Geordies this outing. Home win forecast.

Celtic will host Guangzhou Evergrande at Celtic park on Match Day Four and should continue their upward movement after a slow start in a game that did everything in but win. All players are fit with a strike pairing of Keane and Briand feeding from good supply from Pienaar. Guangzhou looked much better in their last match but the Celtic scoring machine will test them severely. Home Win in this one.

Match of the Round is between one and two in the league when Club America travel to Berlin. The only team in the league with a 100% record the Mexicans are flying high but will be without Sanches who has fractured a cheekbone and will probably miss two games. The South Americans are scoring goals almost at will with 7 to their credit but the Berlin defense is the meanest in the league and the Germans have only needed one per game to take the spoils. It will be an interesting battle of attack v defense with the crowd being the difference. The strong vocal support at the Olympiastadion will probably be enough to get a win for home side plus the visitors may not relish the expected chilly temperature forecast for the day of the game. Berlin to take the points and climb to the top of the ladder.

Manchester City on the other hand are scoring at two a game but have still been unable to get more than 4 points from their three games. Should be a tight affair but with the home ground advantage the Light Blues should scrape home. 0-1

The only things not "mid-table" about this performance by Man City is that Cambiasso was good for them again, converting their penalty in the 48th minute, and, fortunately for them, 'Keeper Rulli got the MOTM award. Otherwise this was a dull affair with neither club exciting the crowd overly much. Iheanacho must be disappointed that he has not got a run yet, the talented youngster has pace and talent and may be an option for the slower Deeney. Ward Prowse for Feyenoord had an up and down day with a yellow card in the 4th minute for a foul on Santi Mina and a goal from a through ball from Moukandjo 50 minutes later. Final Score 1-1

150x_Sunderland.jpg                   V                     150xafc-ajax.jpg

Prediction: Sunderland return to the Stadium of light after taking a point away in their last round and now sit 6th in the league with opponents Ajax above them on goal difference. Winger Sisto will miss the game but Camasara will still be a problem for Ajax who will be missing Jedjav in defense. However as they have Camasara in great form as well I am going to go for a draw in this one....assuming Butland doesn't give the visitors any gifts. 1-1

Possession was about even in this game that, as predicted, ended in a draw, but Manager Huddo will be disappointed that his side did not steal the points. Ajax only managed 2 shots on target in the game for one conversions but despite having 16 shots overall, six on target and only playing against 10 men for the last 15 minutes, Sunderland could not grab the victory. They paid the penalty for not being switched on at the start with Angel Correa scoring his first for the season just two minutes into the game. Just 13 minutes gone and Sunderland were putting on the pressure with the lively Camasara playing Ings through on goal who took it early and put the ball in the net. Celebrations wewre cut short by the offside flag. However just 4 minutes later Kostic played a lovely one-two with Benassi, whose overall performance won him the MOTM, and he slotted home to even the scoreboard. As the match progressed Ajax were having more and more trouble dealing with Camasara and it showed in the cards. First Correa, just before half time, and then Dos Santos just after the break were carded for fouling the Spaniard and then, in the 79th Minute, Camasara put a peach of a pass through to Ings who would have only had the keeper to beat but was prevented from getting to the ball by Dos Santos who grabbed a solid handful of his shirt. Sunderland will certainly consider this game points lost and LauraV will have a small smile on her face as she takes one point back to the Amsterdam Arena. Final Score 1-1

150x_hannover-96.jpg                    V                    150x_Stuttgart_FC.jpg

Prediction: Eleventh placed Stuttgart will make the short trip to Hanover who have yet to get a win this season. Manager KJKJ has settled in with his new club more quickly than was expected and their 2-0 win over Atletico in the last round showed some class. Stuttgart to continue their climb with a win. 2-1

Manager Caio Cesar was very confident going into the game that Hanover could notch their first win of the season and to be fair their performance had everything but the win. They were solid in their performance without being brilliant and held Stuttgart at bay until the 72nd Minute when Zielinski, who had replaced Milic at half time in a tactical change for an MOTM performance, found Boufal with a stunning pass that the Moroccan gladly slammed into the top corner out of reach of the diving Adrian. Hanover will get a win on this performance, the question is how far away is it? Final Score 0-1

150xATMadrid.jpg                    V                    150x_psg.jpg

Prediction: Atletico manager Lucas will be wondering where his first goal is coming from when they take on PSG at Vincente Calderon. 3-1

Cameron Lucas will sleep more soundly tonite after the Colchoneros notched not only their first win, but their first goals of the competition. The hosts started to gain authority over the game after about 20 minutes with Sessegnon testing the keeper and then Zoet saving well from Ighalo from the free kick that saw Brunt sent from the field for a two-footed tackle that came out of nowhere in the contact of the game. The one-man advantage really began to pay dividends with the home side finishing the game with 60% of the possession and if there was a disappointment for the manager it would be that they did not score more. Castillejo opened the scoring on 32 minutes when controlled a pas from Bakambu and ran in to slot it past the diving Zoet. Half time 1-0. In the second half it was all Atletico. In the 48th minute MOTM Castillejo was deprived of a second by Zoet when Ighallo found him unmarked but the same player made it two in the 53rd minute when a curling shot across the goal face dipped and clipped the inside of the far post. However from the kick off Atletico were celebrating too hard allowing Risse to find Marin close in, who took a touch and made it 2-1. The Manager's face on the side line told the whole story. However in the end the home side got their win which lifted them out of the relegation zone. Final Score 2-1

150x_eintracht-frankfurt.jpg                    V                     150x1.-fc-koln-8.jpg

Prediction: 3th placed Eintracht Frankfurt will play host to 4th placed Cologne and are on the slide a bit after consecutive losses. 3-2

I may have got this prediction spot on if it were not for the magnificent Delli Alli. 12 Million is a lot to pay for one so young but with 3 goals and 2 assists in 4 games he is certainly repaying their faith in his ability. With only 7 minutes on the clock Alli collected a pass from MOTM Kingsley Coman and put his side ahead much to the delight of manager and fans alike. This fired up the Cologne side and just four minutes later the man I said in the preview that they had to control, Kranevitter, latched on to a low cross into the box from Rabiot and blasted it into the top corner. From there it was all Cologne with Sportiello making save after save as the home side defended manfully. In the final minutes Alli played a through ball to Carbonero and that shot could have won them the game but the talented Donnarumma got his finger tips to it to pput it safely wide. Final Score 1-1.

150x_Seattle_Sounders_FC.jpg                    V                     150x_newcastle.jpg

Prediction: Seattle will be smarting after losing a game they were expected to do much better in and will be a tough handful for the visiting Newcastle team that also lost their last outing. I think Seattle will have too much strike power for the Geordies this outing. Home win forecast. 4-2

Newcastle slipped into the relegation zone following this away loss to Seattle who, as predicted, were just a bit too strong for the visitors. manager JustinX will be very pleased that his marquee signing Nicklas Bendtner got on the score sheet with the only goal in the 58th minute after a strong run and cross from Janzaj. Bendtner was really on fire today with a MOTM performance that got Seatlle the points, but no as easily as I thought it might be. Jack Colback sustained an injury for the visitors and will miss the next game. Newcastle showed promise but were never brilliant and Seattle did enough but should really have donne more. Final Score 1-0

150x_Celtic.jpg                    V                    150x_Guangzhou-Evergrande.jpg

Prediction: Celtic will host Guangzhou Evergrande at Celtic park on Match Day Four and should continue their upward movement after a slow start in a game that did everything in but win. All players are fit with a strike pairing of Keane and Briand feeding from good supply from Pienaar. Guangzhou looked much better in their last match but the Celtic scoring machine will test them severely. Home Win in this one. 5-2

Well sometimes the predictions are spot on. Guangzhou are looking better every match but only managed 1 shot on target which truthfully Hassen was a little lucky to get away with when it was parried onto the post and came back to his arms. However it would have been an injustice if Guangzhou had won this game and manager Christopher will  be concerned that his side did not score at least two more. That said we noted before the game that Briand and Keane were the danger and so it proved in the 88th Minute when they finally got it right. Briand made space but instead of shooting slipped the ball to the wily Keane who beat the valiant Sels easily for the points. Celtic come wy with a win they deserved but should have scored more and is Sels had got the MOTM award instaed of Keane, who was dangerous all day, that would have been accepted by everyone at the game. Final Score 1-0

150x_Hertha-BSC.jpg                    V                    150x_clubamerica.jpg

Prediction: Match of the Round is between one and two in the league when Club America travel to Berlin. 5-3

Following their loss in this game Berlin dropped 5 league places to 7th in a game I thought they could win. The certainly won the first half with a goal in the 33rd minute for a half time lead. Depoitre got a nice cross from Quintero on the left and flick across the the other side of the box where the onrushing Kris Commons slotted it back across the goal and into the bottom corner. Half time 1-0. They started the second half brightly as well when Depoitre just shot wide with only the keeper to beat. In the 53rd minute the visitors won a corner and center back Cabral was on hand to smash home a low cross from Janssen after the corner was taken short. Jansses now has 2 goals and four assists in his four matches to date and is becoming a stand out player in this league. After this goal Club America seemed to lift a notch and put real pressure on the home side. In the 66th minute Assensio, who has 2 goals and 2 assists to date, slotted home the winning goal from...you guessed it...a great through ball from Janssen. Berlin tried to recover but never found their early rhythm in the game and the loss will certainly be a disappointment for them. Final Score 1-2

So Club America maintain their 100% record and I am sure that whoever they face next match will be taking them vary seriously...OH...its Celtic...that would be right.. So this weeks match for CA was first versus second and now that Celtic have moved to Second place, next week will be the same scenario. Looking forward to the next round of matches.

Just to clarify, I'm not okay with this!

I mean, I thought we weren't gonna be able to sign the best players in the short / medium term.

And, somehow, 1 managed team has the best of them all!

PS: Justin, you already have the Lord - no need to rub it in our faces.  :D

Oh, and you guys should be ashamed for not being able to beat me:

Well my assistant manager has us reasonably placed in 6th position with 1 win and 3 draws but now I'm back from holidays so watch me fall down the table :)

Also, great work with the reports and predictions Gordon!

I hope your holidays were good, mate.

So, does NZ have Internet?  :D

I remember you saying you thought they didn't have it, before you went there.  :P

Match Day 5:
Amsterdam v Rotterdam is out first game this round with Ajax hosting 9th placed Feyenoord and both teams coming off a draw. Ajax will be without Dos Santos after his red card last match with Radoja possibly the player to fill the gap. Feyenoord will be without Feret for a second match but he is back training and should be available for round 6. Origi is the key with 3 goals and 2 MOTM performances in 4 games. What makes this game even more enticing is both sides are as yet unbeaten. Ajax to win at home but it will not be easy.

Stuttgart, fresh from a win against Hanover, will host Sunderland whose manager is able to return to the bench after an absence for personal reasons over the last two games. Sunderland also remain unbeaten this season although they have recorded more draws than they may have expected. On paper this looks like a home win but do not be surprised if Sunderland manage at least a point. I will stick with the win for prediction scores.
PSG are having a very strange season so far having scored more AND conceded more goals than any other team in the league. Manager Cookie seems happy to concede goals if he can score more than the opposition but with a 1-1-2 win loss record this may not be working as well as he likes. Hanover will be the opposition for this game and they will be looking to make amends for the loss at home in the last round and get their season started after only 2 points for the 4 games so far. Chris Brunt is suspended for PSG but my feeling is that Hanover are lacking some strike power and may need to visit the transfer market once bans are lifted...if money is available. Marin, Sessegnon and Marquinho to prove to strong for the visitors. Home win here.
Third placed Cologne will play host to the newly resurrected Atletico Madrid in their next game. Madrid have finally broken their duck with both a win and goals ij their last encounter and will be up for continuing that form. Colognes tight defense that has conceded only one goal so far will be the main thing the the visitors have to overcome. Kranevitter and Rabiot are starting to develop a fine understanding but Cologne will miss Bernadeschi who is scoring a goal every other game. Castillejo found his shooting boots last game but the visitors will be without Puncheon but they also won their first game without him last match and Bakambu filled in so well Puncheon may find it difficult to return to the starting eleven anytime soon. If Madrid can continue to find the net they will prove a handful for the Germans. However a draw seems the most likely.

14th host 13th with Newcastle just in the relegation zone a point below Frankfurt. Frankfurt held the high flying Cologne to a draw last round and are showing improvement with Dele Alli the star. Newcastle fell foul of a rare good performance from Niklas Bendtner. Newcastle will be without Colback and Lustenberger and may have to reshuffle a bit to replace them. Eintracht will be looking for another strong performance from Alli and should take the points.
More to follow

Bottom of the table Guangzhou Evergrand host 4th place Seattle at the Tianhe Stadium still looking for a first point. Coates will be out through a minor injury for the home side. I would love to see Guangzhou pick up their first points. Their performances have been steadily improving and they could do with a lift. Manager Gozzy is an experienced man and I am sure he will get them working soon. Unfortunately I think Januzaj, Tolisso and Ronaldinho will prove to much for the home side to cope with. Seattle to win by the odd goal.

Runaway Leaders Club America will welcome fast rising Celtic to the Aztec Stadium for the game of the round with only Renato Sanches sidelined with a minor ailment. CA will look to maintain there 100% record. They are conceding exactly one goal per game but scoring more than 2 so far and Janssen, with 2 goals and 4 assists will be an absolute menace to the visiting defense. the diamond formation is proving very effective given their players and beating them is a very tough ask..especially at home. At the other end of the pitch who have scored 6 in their last three and conceded three...an identical result to Club America and Pienaar, Briand and Keane are forming a strong partnership. A draw is well on the cards in this game.

The final match of the round will see 7th placed Berlin visited by Manchester City. Neither team won last time out and there is only a point between them, so it should be a very close game. Neither team has any injuries. For my money the strike force of Cambiasso, Mina and Brandt will be too strong for the Germans and City will take the points but it could be a reasonably high scoring game...maybe 2-3 or something similar. But an away win is the forecast

Good luck to you all.
