The Diavola's Perspective!!!

It's been an odd, erratic season for the Rossoneri half of Milan. While team and individual success have still fallen on the Diavolas shoulders with the recent World Player of the Year Award going to the unstoppable force that is Ricardo Kaka and Milan recently slaying the Argentine Giants, Boca Juniors, to pick up the World Club Cup Championship Trophy in Japan. AC Milan have also cruised through to the second round of the Champions League, topping a group containing Benfica, Shaktar Donetsk and Glasgow Celtic with relative ease, if not necessarily with last seasons incredible ease.

However, in Serie A, its been a different story. Disappointing draws at home to Parma and Catania, away to Siena added to the most disappointing result of the season thus far, a 0-1 defeat at home to Empoli have left the Rossoneri giants in the bottom half of the league standings. Sure Milan have 3 games in hand (against Atalanta and relegation threatened Livorno and Reggina) over most of the rest of Serie A, but a hectic January schedule, up to 8 games within the month, may mean that taking advantage of these opportunites may not be as easy in reality as it would seem on paper. Milan also still have not tasted victory at home in the league this season and, even with 3 points on Sunday at the San Siro, still would not have registered a home win with this match going down as an Inter home game.

Ancellotti will no doubt place faith in the same tried and trusted faces he has relied on for a large amount of his Milan tenure. Its really only at left back where there is an absence with Marek Jankulovsky reportedly set to miss out. Expect the usual gangly frame of Dida to stand between the sticks and it will be down to center backs Nesta and Maldini and full backs Kaladze and Oddo to provide the necessary shield to the Brazilian shotstopper. Options in this defence of course include switching Kaladze and Maldinis positions and bringing Favalli or Bonera in at left or right back respectively.

The midfield has been Milans constant this season. Gattuso, Ambrosini and Pirlo the deeper lying trident with the scheming duo of Kaka and Seedorf playing off of one striker, reportedly set to be Gilardino, due to Ronaldos supposed psychosomatic absence, and the bench will be occupied by Inzaghi for the striking position. The midfield options will be taken by Gourcuff and Brocchi with whichever 2 full backs dont play, occupyiong the defensive alternatives and Kalac as Didas back up.

In order for Milan to make something of the league campaign, victory against city rivals, Inter, is an absolute must. This derby is far far more impotant to the stumbling Rossoneri rather than the high flying Nerazzurri, who sit a whole 7 points clear on top of the table. With losses to Roma and Palermo and a draw against Fiorentina already racked up on the fixture list, a big BIG victory is vital.

Milans league campaign, not necessarily title challenge, but aims to achieve respectability, MUST start here and now!

FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
