Ajax beat off several of Europes major club, including dutch rivals Feyenoord, to secure the signing of Ecuadorian winger Luis Antonio Valencia for £44.9M. Jacko is said to be delighted with the capture of one of Europes most sought after players, and that the news went someway to easing the disappointment of last night 2-1 defeat to Heerenveen.

Maldini joins Exeter!

840_1201887743.gif2465_1209755861.jpg

Exeter City made a shock signing this afternoon as they completed a deal for veteran defender Paulo Maldini for a fee of just over £1 million. Maldini signed a 3 year contract, will be handed the captaincy and is expected to stay at City until he retires. He joins Liverpool's Jonathan Bornstein (£3 million) who joined a few days ago, and Greek duo Stilianos Malezas and Nikolaos Karambelas as recent signings.

Results have not gone City's way so far this season but Maldini's arrival is sure to give a boost.

Exeter have finally got themselves a decent run of form with 2 draws and 4 wins in the past 6 games which has taken them up to 9th in the table and 3 points off of a play-off place. Since the last update, Jonjo Shelvey (£600k) and Emboaba Oscar (£650k) have joined Exeter, with Mark Magennis and Robert Eagle leaving for around £380k.

Recent rating changes have seen the following increases;

Jonjo Shelvey - 75 > 77

David Martin - 77 > 79

Frankie Artus - 64 > 68

Paul Jones - 70 > 73

Matt Gill - 73 > 75

Udinese Stay Top after an easy win at Frosinone

Mirko Vucinic scored his 8th and 9th goals of the season to seal an easy 2-0 win over Frosinone. Udinese were completely dominant as they had 32 shots on goal but some poor finishing kept the scoreline a bit respectable as far as Frosinone were concerned. The win means Udinese remain joint top alongside Roma with both clubs at 31 points and Udinese topping the table by virtue of a better goal difference.

Gonzalo Higuain(11)

Sergei Gurenko(31)

2 first hald goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Sergei Gurenko ensured Udinese stay on top of the Serie level on points with Roma. Higuain put the home side in front with a lovely volley that left the keeper stranded. And with half an hour gone Gurenko virtually ensured the win for Udinese. The win takes Udinese onto 34 points, the same as Roma but Udinese are a top virtue of a better goal difference.

An absolutely fantastic display of attacking football saw Udinese rout Chievo 8-0. Udinese were 4-0 up inside 15 minutes. Floro Flores the hattrick hero got the first one after immaculately controlling a long ball and volleying it past the keeper. Mirko Vucinic got the second one as he latched onto a through ball and thumped it into the top corner. Kim Kallstrom got the 3rd on the night as he latched onto a inch perfect cross from Santana to head home. Sergio Gurenko got the 4th as he headed in the bottom corner from a free kick. Floro Flores got his 2nd on the night with a chip that is fumbled by the keeper and rolls over the line. Udinese's 6th goal came as a result of a own goal by Fabio Moro as he headed in his own net. Mario Santana then joined in the action and probably scored the best of the lot and smashed in from 25 yards. Floro Flores completed his hattrick and the goalscoring when he finished off a slick passing move. The win leaves Udinese at the top of the table on 37 points 3 ahead of Roma who lost in the weekend.

Re: Gold Championship 10 Match Report Thread

Very happy with how this season is going at Exeter. At the start I just wanted to stay in division 3 after promotion last year and finally start to improve the squad instead of just leaving it with a load of City players and the occasional player I bought at the beginning of the setup.

Still not the greatest sides and probably still one of the weakest in the division but with the sale of Daniel Sturridge to Lyon for £10m it's meant that we could buy a few risers and build from there. So thanks Adam, big help :) And also Dai for the loan of Green, and selling me Bornstein for £3m which meant I could then sell him on for £6.1m ;)

Currently 9th in the league, 4 points off a play-off place with 10 games left. More importantly we're 14 points off a relegation place with all of the bottom 3 struggling.

Also looking to have a good cup run - was knocked out straight away by Shorpe in the Shield at the start of the season when I was struggling with tactics. But started off in the Cup with a 8-0 win over Gillingham, followed by a 2-1 win over Southampton despite both main strikers out and then a 3-0 win away to a Portsmouth side doing well in division 1. Away to Man City in the 4th round on the 15th.

With Maldini's retirement, looking to bring in another good defender and found one who will hopefully join tomorrow as his replacement.

Also looking to sell Leicester keeper David Martin, 79, and CB Stilianos Malezas rated 85. No rush to sell him so looking for around £6.5m, but feel that's a reasonable price for someone who could increase again soon enough :)

Probably having this side is the only thing that's kept me interested in GC's

Paulo Maldini's replacement at Exeter has been named as 34 year old Fabio Luciano who joined from Lokomotiv Moscow on Sunday for a fee of £3.2 million. Luciano's signing ensures that there will be a player with experience in what is otherwise a youthful side. Also joining was Seattle Sounders winger Steve Zakuani who was also interesting Scottish side Queen's Park. Zakuani joined for £475k, signing a 3 year contract.

Heading out of the Devon side was young midfielder Bjarni Vidarsson who joined Dempo SC for £150k. Vidarsson played 90 times for City since a Season 1 move from Everton but struggled to make it into the first team this year. Keeper David Martin was also sold for £2.1 million, having played just 13 games in Season 1 after a £200k move from Liverpool. And finally, winger Haris Laitinen left for £3.7 million after making just 19 starts for the club.

Doncaster Rovers 1-3 Exeter City

Green

Yevseyev - Fabio Luciano - Bong

Mackie - Despotovski - Kaita - Shelvey - Torje

Adi Sobrinho - Sturridge

A vital win for Exeter in their push for the play-offs as they moved up to 8th place in Division 3. Despite dominating possession, both sides had plenty of shots on target and it was mainly because of Rob Green's performance that City got the 3 points. First half goals from Daniel Sturridge and Filip Despotovski gave Exeter a comfortable lead before Paul Heffernan's header pulled one back for the home side. Jamie Mackie's deflected shot on the hour mark made sure of the win though, and moved City 4 points away from a play-off place.

Next game: Morecambe (Home)

Eden Hazard completes Exeter move!

840_1201887743.gif32924_1226496508.jpg

18 year old Belgian attacker Eden Hazard completed a shock move to Exeter City this afternoon after a fee was agreed with Paris St Germain for the player last night. Hazard never made an appearance for the French side so was happy to make the move, signing a 3 year contract at St James' Park. Moving the other way was 21 year old defender Gaétan Bong who made 133 starts for the club after joining for a bargain £225k in Season 1, as well as £3 million in cash.

Meanwhile, City also confirmed that they had a bid rejected for Aston Villa keeper Wayne Hennessey and the club are unlikely to make a new offer. It was also confirmed that an offer has been received for defender Stilianos Malezas of just over £6 million and the club are considering whether to accept or not. Malezas was placed on the transfer list last week with City wanting around £6.5 million before allowing him to leave.

Exeter City 3-1 Morecambe

Green

Yevseyev - Fabio Luciano - Maldini

Hazard - Jordi Gomez - Kaita - Shelvey - Torje

Adi Sobrinho - Sturridge

City needed a win to keep up their promotion hopes but against a side that was top of the table, it meant that it would be a tough game. Exeter wanted an early goal and that's what they got as Fabio Luciano's half-volley in the 12th minute flew into the roof of the net. That lead was doubled in the 25th when Rocha Adi Sobrinho lost his marker and thumped a low shot under the keeper. But Morecambe pulled one back 10 minutes before half time through Yannick Kamanan. And both sides had more chances in the 2nd half but it wasn't until the 79th minute that the next was scored as Adi Sobrinho's 21st of the season restored Exeter's 2 goal advantage. City held on for the 3 points which moved them up to 7th in the table, 4 points behind 6th placed Southampton.

Transfer News:

2 goalkeepers have arrived at St James' Park in recent days, Bulgarian Valentin Galev joined for £150k whilst Ján Mucha became City's most expensive signing at £5.2 million. Mucha was brought in from Legia Warszawa and will compete with Rob Green for a starting place. His signing looks like meaning Green's loan spell at Exeter could soon be up. And this morning, 19 year old Liam Sercombe joined for £150k from Toulouse. Sercombe has been a target for over a season but has now finally signed a 2 year contract which will be increased as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Stilianos Malezas moved to Palestino for just over £6.2 million. Malezas made just 5 appearances since joining from PAOK for £2.3 million at the start of the season.

Next Game: Tonight - English Cup Round 4 - Manchester City (Away)

Form has slipped since last update, just 5 points from the last 4 games, and also a 2-0 defeat to Man City in the 4th round of the cup. A 3-1 win away to Crystal Palace last night moves City up to 8th - 3 points outside the play-offs with 3 games left. Need to win all to stand any chance of making them. :o

In transfer news, centre back Marcus Nilsson joins for £1.7 million, highly rated LB Emmanuel Mbola arrives in a cash + Adam Stansfield deal, and Brazilian trio Neto Eduardo, Osorio Johnny and Pereira Goncalves Uendel also join. Pedro Mosquera and Ron-Robert Zieler leave in the deals.

Last 3 games;

Hartlepool (H)

Bristol City (A)

MK Dons (H)

Liverpool likely to miss out on SMFA Cup football

Liverpool are not going to be in the SMFA Cup next season unless something close to a miracle happens. The sit in 6th in the Premisership, 7 points behind 4th placed Wigan. There are only thre games remaining and luck hasn't been with them so far this season so why would it start now.

Winston expressed his disappointment and also vowed not to let it happen again. He will et the team back where they belong and make them challenge for honours. Its been too long without a trophy now and a club this big NEEDS tropihes.

Winston is making every player available for transfer. Gerrard, Forlan, Fernando Torres, Maxwell and others can leave for the right deals. The Welshman wants a transformation before next season in order to really challenge.

Exeter are set to test out a new formation tonight against Hartlepool as they enter the last 3 games of the season. 3-5-2 has proved successful in the past 2 seasons but has led to inconsistent results against the unmanaged sides. Udinese Conquer Italy!

In a Historic moment for Udinese the club lifted it's first Scudetto in the 4 year History of the breakaway Italian league. A Capacity crowd packed the Friuli in anticipation of the club's first title. At half time Udinese were losing and Roma their clsest rivals were on course for a win. With 20 minutes to go Fernando Biano chose the best possible moment to score his first goal of the season. The crowd were delirious now and visiting Parma were clearly getting intimidated. Biano then scored his second goal of the season in the 89th minute to seal the title and the win.

Im insulted by that offer, If you read the newspaper advertisment, i said part ex only ;)

He will, never ever leave for cash only.

Especially considering he cost me 2 x 91's !

Lyon go top with two games to go after falling to second in their previous fixture. Only ANgers, and a away trip to Marseille, who were top last fixture stand in between Lyon and 3 titles in a row.

De Rossi can leave, but will have to be a good deal.

Toulalan, is available and im more willing to sell.

Adebayor and Sagna can also leave ( can you believe i got the two of these for Grosso when the GC started lol )

Re: Gold Championship 10 Match Report Thread

besiktas.jpgVSaek_athens.jpg

AEK Athens go into the final day of the season, needing just one point heading away to Besiktas. The Greek outfit are 3 points clear of both Sporting CP and opponents Besiktas in the Mediterranean league, but due to their disappointing draw on Saturday night, they still need to get something in Turkey. If AEK Athens lose tonight, they will be relying on unmanaged Trabzonspor to take something from Sporting, something which is highly unlikely to happen. Trabzonspor, though lying in mid table, haven't won in 11 games.

Should the impossible happen, and AEK lose by 6 goals or more, they won't even finish in the top 2, thus failing to qualify for the SMFA Cup next season. The current table toppers haven't lost a league game since the 5-0 drubbing from Porto on the 3rd June. Their strike force, Evaeverson Brandao and Blaise Nkufo, have both notched 13 goals this season, and their compatibility needs to be on show one last time.

_44124515_bran416.jpgimg.338865_t.jpg

Harvey will also be relying Brazilian left midfielder Raphael Alex to provide for the forwards - he leads the Athens assist chart with 12. He has been tipped for the Player of the Year awards and his performances as of late have certainly done his chances no harm.

wolfsburg-meschini514.jpg

AEK can also boast one of the meanest defences in the division, just behind Panathinaikos and Crvena Zvezda. The centre back partnership of Moris Carozzieri and Gabriel Tamas. The two stoppers have been in good form recently and they will need to be at their best to contain Besiktas's Russian forward Elidar Nizamutdinov, who has 15 goals and 21 assists to his name this season.

12592054.jpgGabriel-Tamas-200x200-8kb-media-5404-media-126602-1197498911.jpg

Whatever the outcome, Harvey says he is proud of his players effort and commitment this year. Athens have lost just 4 league games all season, a record that pleases the manager. "Apart from the 5-0 defeat to Porto, our defeats have been close games and we could, and possibly should have at least got one point from each of them." He continued "Last Saturday's draw was a disappointment for everyone associated with the club. We could have been crowned champions, and throwing a 2-0 lead away is always disappointing regardless of the situation." When asked about his side's chances in Turkey, he said "As long as they leave everything on that pitch, that's all I can ask for. Besiktas are a good team but we've beaten them once this year and we can do it again."

Still under TB until 21st August, will probably end up keeping him though, for now at least ;)

Exeter miss out on the play-offs for this year after only managing a 1-1 draw at Bristol City on Saturday. In a way that's good, don't think the squad is good enough for Division 2 yet so another season gives us time to improve :) Managed to sign Favalli recently as well, unfortunatly Col decided to bid aswell so I had to bid more than I wanted to :P That's taken us into debt, but the end of season cash and Fabio Luciano's value when he retires will sort that out.

Just need the TB's to run out on the risers now! :)

And dammit, Flintoff gone :o
