Smartdoc 5,262
I'm gonna try something here... and that is to defend SM  . Not the wisest thing to do I know and may get a lot of negative comments for it but someone has to do it . The EPL ratings changes were always going to be contreversial as the majority of forumers know the premiership well and have their favourites and players who they don't rate at all. I'm not gonna look at individual ratings, bt overall team ratings. Following the changes, I looked at all the teams and sorted there best possible team in a 4-4-2 formation according to ratings (I know all the teams do not play 4-4-2 all the time but most do). Using this I worked out an average rating for the team and formalised the final table according to SM. I know all the changes have not yet been complete but the vast majority have and the others should not affect this too much. So here goes (numbers represent players rating according to SM): ------------------------------------------------Average rating Man U 94-91-94-94-92-93-91-93-98-96-94----------93.6 Arsen 91-91-94-94-91-93-95-92-92-92-91----------92.4 Chels 96-89-96-94-92-92-95-95-92-96-92----------93.5 Liver 93-91-94-90-91-88-93-97-89-94-91----------91.9 Evert 90-88-90-89-88-89-91-92-89-91-89----------89.6 A Vil 89-88-90-97-90-91-88-88-89-90-89----------89.0 Man C 89-91-91-90-87-91-88-87-91-89-89----------89.4 Black 89-88-88-88-88-90-88-87-90-91-91----------88.9 Ports 91-88-90-90-87-90-90-88-88-89-88----------89.0 W Ham 89-89-88-87-87-88-88-87-89-90-88----------88.2 Newca 92-91-88-88-88-88-87-87-88-91-90----------88.9 Totte 89-89-90-89-88-90-89-87-89-93-92---------89.5 Readi 88-86-87-86-88-85-87-86-88-89-87----------87.0 Middl 89-88-90-86-86-89-89-87-87-91-87----------88.1 Bolto 92-86-88-86-87-86-89-87-85-90-88----------87.6 Birmi 86-86-88-86-86-88-89-86-86-87-86----------86.7 Wigan 88-88-86-86-87-87-90-87-87-88-87----------87.3 Sunde 90-87-85-85-86-87-85-85-85-86-85----------86.0 Fulha 88-86-87-86-87-87-87-87-86-87-86----------86.7 Derby 85-84-85-85-84-86-87-84-86-87-87----------85.5 * Middlesboro rating may be affected by decreased ratings for Woodgate (90) and/or Tuncay (91) ** Wigan rating may be affected by decreased rating for Landzaat (90) *** Fulham rating boosted by recent signings yet to be adjusted What does all this mean?? To be honest not necessarily anything . Some will argue there is no point looking at just starting XI. This is only serving as a guide for where SM rates your team!! So if we take this to be roughly accurate let's compare current league position to where according to these stats SM believe your team would finish Actual League-------------------------------SM league Manchester United-----------------------------Manchester United Arsenal----------------------------------------Chelsea Chelsea----------------------------------------Arsenal Liverpool---------------------------------------Liverpool Everton----------------------------------------Everton Aston Villa-------------------------------------Tottenham Hotspur Mamchester City-------------------------------Manchester City Blackburn--------------------------------------Portsmouth Portsmouth-------------------------------------Aston Villa West Ham United-------------------------------Blackburn Newcastle United-------------------------------Newcastle United Tottenham Hotspur-----------------------------West Ham United Reading----------------------------------------Middlesboro Middlesboro-------------------------------------Bolton Wanderers Bolton Wanderers-------------------------------Wigan Athletic Birmingham City---------------------------------Reading Wigan Athletic----------------------------------Birmingham City Sunderland--------------------------------------Fulham Fulham-----------------------------------------Sunderland Derby County-----------------------------------Derby County Only time will tell what the final table will be. But to be fair to SM the table generated by the ratings of the first XI is probably pretty close to how the final table may be (maybe too late for Tottenham to rise so high but who knows?? ). Also not bad in comparison to the current table! I don't want to make a habit of defending SM and I also have a list of individual ratings which I don't agree with , but the overall team ratings according to the criteria above is almost spot-on!! ps I said almost - anyone who thinks their team should be rated higher, don't shoot the messenger - just interpretting SMs statistics lukelufc and TomOwen

Smartdoc 5,262
Re: The EPL according to SM It seems the EPL ratings may be complete now and despite the alterations in some players ratings, the overall table remains the same. If Landzaat, Woodgate or Tuncay drop in ratings, then middlesboro may drop doen the simulated table a bit! I hope i did not lose anyone with what I have donw above. Als oif people are interested, I could do a similar thing with the top European teams and create a similar table to see if the apparent premiership bias by SM people talk about is real or not!! TomOwen 8,151
Re: The EPL according to SM I don't think the Liverpool ratings you did were really exact, here is what I expected it to be like or this is their best team Reina (93) Finnan (91) Carragher (94) Agger (90) Arbeloa (90) or Riise (91) Gerrard (97) Xabi Alonso (93) Mascherano (93) Babel (89) Torres (94) Kuyt (91) Average: 92.27 Which still makes them 4th on the ranking

As Sm tends to rely heavily on players playing in their primary poistion (Gerrard alwyas plays better in the middle than on the Right in SM), I took out Xabi alonso and put in a L midfielder. As you say Liverpool would still come out 4th, so doesn't really make a difference anyway.
