Re: Gold Championship 12 - News, Transfers & Match Reports

Just days ago, German giants Werder Bremen has given Ross Philp the task of winning them the league this season, as the board are also looking for decent cup runs and a good run in Europe, in a group with Lyon Fenerbahce and Ajax - it will be tough. He has excellent players at his disposal such as Diego, Borowski and Mertesacker and he has been supplied with just over £22m in transfer funds. Having taken over a few days to get his move from Scotland settled, he spoke with the German press early this morning.

" I have an excellent squad here, but I am keen to get two new full backs in. I feel we also need a left winger as well as we don't have an out and out player in that position. I hope to do well in the transfer market over the next few days, but what is most important, is a win tonight. We host FSV Mainz at home: 3 points".

Wiese 90

Fritz 89 Naldo 91 Mertesacker 93 Tosic 88

Diego 94 Frings 93 Jensen 89 Borowski 91

Rosenberg 88 Sanogo 89

The above is the eleven that Philp has named for the clash with Mainz tonight with newly appointed captain Diego starting wide on the right. The captain has been much saught after and many bids have been received over the past few days by Bremen. Philp said " We wouldn't like to part with him, but if an offer comes in that is beneficial for the club, then he will leave, and the player understands this. He will be influencial for us this season, and will have a role of freedom in the midfield".

Bordeaux Off To Flying Start

In new Bordeaux manager Tom Mills' first game in charge, his team showed the immediate impact the new boss has had on Les Girondins. In what appeared to be a tough opening game for Mills' men against European hopefuls St. Etienne, Bordeaux showed their potential as title candidates with a dominant 4-0 home victory.

It took only 4 minutes for free-scoring Argentine Fernando Cavenaghi to scramble the ball over the line, sending the 34,296 Bordeaux fans into raptures at le Stade Chaban-Delmas. 12 minutes later, midfield dynamo Alou Diarra doubled Bordeaux's lead with a simple tap-in following a brilliant long range effort. The goals didn't stop there, however, as just past the half-hour mark, pacy Argentine winger Alejandro Alonso curled in a trademark strike to put the home side 3 goals to the good. The scoreline remained the same through half-time, and game looked to be ebbing away until Man of the Match Fernando Cavenaghi scored his second of the game, with what was described by the commentators as "an amazing goal".

Manager Tom Mills was delighted with the performance, but reiterated to his team that they needed to remain focused for the upcoming away game against fellow title contenders Lille if they were to stand any chance of holding their place at the top of Ligue 1. Mills also praised his side for "a good team performance", but held particular praise for hitman Fernando Cavenghi, whom he described as "outstanding".

The Bordeaux manager, even though happy with his sides victory tonight, is still thought be on the lookout for more signings to boost his squad's chances of winning the league - which he has outlined as his main focus this season. After already shelling out £5m plus veterans Ulrich Rame and Johan Micoud for future French number 1 Hugo Lloris, as well as deals bringing Andres Sergio Asenjo, Joshua Kennedy and Foud Idabdelhay, Mills is thought to be on the lookout for a new defensive partner to Marc Planus, to replace the ageing Souleymane Diawara. Mills has 2 targets in mind, with Recreativo's Martin Caceres and Middlesbrough's David Wheater high on his wishlist.

They may only be 1 game into the new season, but exciting times seem to be on the horizon at Bordeaux...

Fiorentina kick off with a victory

Winston's Fiorentina team started this season with an away game at Siena. He is looking forward to the challenge of trying to compete with the best and biggest teams in Serie A.

The Florence team absolutely battered Siena and dominated every single aspect of the game. Fiorentina were pressing and pressing for the opening goal and it finally came when Centre Back Dario Dainelli showed an uncharacteristic burst of pace to speed past the Siena defenders and delightfully chipped Alex Manninger to give Fiorentina the lead which was fully deserved. It was a miracle that the game was only 1-0 at half time as Winston's team was so impressive going forward.

(Dainelli scored the opener for Fiorentina)

The second half was much the same as the first and Fiorentina should of killed the game off on numerous occasions but squandered the chances. Siena did create the odd chance which Sebastian Frey was equal to. Fiorentina did eventually kill the game off with a goal from Adrian Mutu who finished superbly after a slick passing move.

(Adrian Mutu scored his first of the season to kill the game off)

Final score: Siena 0-2 Fiorentina

CLUB BRUGGE get it on!!!

Club Brugge started their campaign with a great win over unmanaged Germinal Beerschot.

Club Brugge had made no signings at the start of the season, and eyebrows were being raised, but Brugge's managerial skill was just too much, as they nailed 4 - 0 over their opponents.

Klukwoski andGerates scored early in the 3rd and 5th minute to kill the game off, and left midfielder Darden scored two more to rump them.

This win moves Club Brugge temporarily to the top of the table, and they seek to reinforce it with a match against Brussel on Thursday, who lost 4-1 to Utrectct.

Till next time, from Holland and Belgium!!

Match highlights

3: GOAL!! - Michael KLUKOWSKI thumps in a low drive from 20 yards out! Two keepers couldn't have stopped that!

5: GOAL!! - Lightning quick Karel GERAERTS bursts into the box and lashes home from 15-yards!

53: GOAL!! - Koen DAERDEN climbs over the defender and heads into the corner of the net!

82: GOAL!! - A speculative chip by Koen DAERDEN is fumbled by the hapless keeper and rolls agonisingly over the line

Phillip Lahm has left Bayern

Phillip Lahm played his last game for Bayern today, and went out on a high with a 2-1 win over VFL Bochum. It was revealed after the game in a press conference that Manager Mr Storo had accepted a bid from Manchester United that seen both Patrick Evra and old Bayern boy Owen Hargreaves join Bayern + 12M cash and Lahm head the other way.

Knowing that Lahm was a crowd favourite Mr Storo mentioned in his press interview that the deal was too good to turn down. He said " Like I mentioned before, if we got an offer that was too good to turn down we would consider it and this is what happened with Phillip. We received 2 world class players that will add huge depth and experience to the side and from our point of view it was a win win situation. I am also very glad to see Owen back here. I have been a huge admirer of Owen for years and when the opportunity to have him as part of this deal was mentioned, I jumped at the chance. He is the type of player that would benefit any team. As for Patrick Evra, what can you say about him that people already don't know. He is a very talented player. He can slot in at LB or play LM if needed, a very versitile player and starting LB for the French team. I am sure he will fit in well here with Sagnol and Ribery helping him settle."

As for the game, Bayern were a little rusty today and managed to sneak away with the win. Mr Storo mentioned that the team will take a little time to adjust to his management style and while he does expect 1 or 2 more signings with maybe 1 or 2 leaving, he expects the team to firing on all cylinders within the next few weeks.

Rumours have it that Hamit, Sosa, Schlaudraff, Ottl and Podolshi have been subjected to bids this week and one or two of these are expected to leave.

Alejandro Veron (Velez Sarsfield), 55 mins

Santos will be disappointed with the start to their season as they went down 1-0 away from home to Velez Sarsfield, the Santos manager felt his team were good enough to go and get a result and Santos did play well during the game but the only goal came from Velez Sarsfield as Alejandro Veron powered a header into the net on the 55th minute to give them all three points.

Man Utd have today come out and said they have over 40 million to spend on new players and will invest heavily on a new striker if one becomes available. Louis Saha could be on his way out of old trafford as part of any deal after he was told that he is free to go as long as a replacement is in place.

Fiorentina win thriller in Florence

Winston's Fiorentina have picked up their second win of the season after a thrilling 4-3 win against Roma at the Artemio Franchi. Fiorentina, who have not made any signings this season are looking to qualify for Europe at least this season and this was a good result on the way towards this.

The Florence team were amazing in the first half and really took their chances well resulting in a 3-1 lead at half time. The first was goal came from Fiorentina captain Marco Donadel after just 4 minutes through a glancing header found the back of the net.

(Marco Donadel scored the opener for Fiorentina early on)

Fiorentina continued with their good form and made the score 2-0 on 16 minutes when a majestic lob by Martin Jorgensen went into the net. Winston was enjoying the way his team was finishing and hoped his players could keep it up.

(Jorgensen made it 2-0 to Fiorentina)

Roma woke up and started to push forwards creating a few decent chances that Fiorentina goal keeper Sebastian Frey was more than a match to. Winston urged his team on further and created numerous chances in which they went close with, they did take one of these chances and made the score surprisingly 3-0 to Fiorentina going into half time. The goal was scored by Romanian International Adrian Mutu who's shot went in off the post.

(Adrian Mutu's goal made it 3-0 o the Florence team)

Just one minute later Fiorentina were down to ten men when a Martin Jorgensen was shown a second yellow for pushing the referee. A stupid thing to do which put his team on the back foot for the rest of the match.

It was important that Roma got something before the half time whistle if they were going to make a comeback and did through influential Captain Francesco Totti. A long distance shot was saved by Frey in the Fiorentina goal and the ball fell to a well placed Totti who could not miss and made the score 3-1 at half time.

(Totti pulled one back for Roma just before half time)

Winston's side started the second half well but they were soon made to pay for Jorgensen's stupidity and Roma started to press and create chances, they had to wait until the 65th minute to get a goal which came from Alessandro Mancini who poked the ball home from close range.

(Alessandro Mancini scored Roma's second goal)

Roma were looking more and more likely to make the score level and they did when Alessandro Mancini scored his second and the equalizer for Roma when he smashed a shot into the roof of the net.

(Mancini scored a brace to level the score 3-3)

Fiorentina were lucky not to concede and lose the match after Roma missed several chances after they had dominated the match from the 30th minute and were left devastated when Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu netted his second of the game to give the Florence team an unexpected 4-3 win.

(Mutu celebrates his late winner)

Tomeesha lost his first game in charge at Sevilla tonight after a 1 - 0 loss to a strong Barcelona side. The game was fairly close even after Thierry Henry put Barcelona in front on 14 minutes. A decent performance by Sevilla which we will be looking to build on.

Rodrigo Souto (Santos), 11 mins

Jose Fabao (Santos), 75 mins

Santos got their first win of the new campaign as they won 2-0 at home to Argentinian side Estudiantes, the first goal came on the 11th minute as Rodrigo Souto drove the ball home from 20 yards out to put Santos 1-0 up, Santos then went down to ten men as they had center back Willian Betao sent off after he petulantly kicked out at his opponent and that looked to be a turning point in the game but it didn't turn out that way as Santos got their second goal on the 75th minute through man of the match Jose Fabao and the game ended 2-0 to Santos.

Dortmund pick up first three of the season!

Borussia Dortmund 3-2 Hansa Rostock

"Last night, Louis Mattis's Dortmund side picked up there first three points of the season, a full 30,000 turned up at the Ostseestadion ground to watch the sides play, Dortmund always had the game as the dominated 52% of the possession and having 10 out of 19 shots on target, Alexander FREI should of took the lead for Dortmund 4 minutes in, but his 4 yard effort flew over the bar, and Dortmund were mde to pay for that as they went 1-0 on 15 minutes through Reinaldo NAVIA shooting from a acute angle and his shot getting deflected into the net, and Dortmund though the game was over 7 minutes laster as Hansa Rostock went 2-0 through Almeida ALEX DIAS, skipping past his marker, and belting a 25 yard shot into the net. But Dortmund fought hard and they were rewarded on 15 minutes thanks to Alexander FREI who had yards of space and made no mistake from 15 yards, but the teams went in at half time with Hansa Rostock, Mattis must of gave the team a good talking at half time as Dortmund came out in the second half the better side and on 50 minutes, Dortmund leveled the score through Denny LANDZAAT poking the ball into the net after a goal mouth scramble, with the game looking to head for a draw, one team needed some magic, and Dortmund got that on 71 minutes when Alexander FREI was clean through on the goal and finished easily from 4 yards.

(Frei scored the first goal for Dortmund and the winner)

(Landzaat made it 2-2!)
