TSV Continue Winning Start

978.gif

It has now been two weeks to the day since Mills brothers Jaymes and Tom took joint charge of TSV Munich 1860 in GC13. After demolishing Rot-Weiss Essen 12-1 in their opening game, TSV faced two tough away matches at Kaiserslautern, who were only recently relegated from die Bundesliga, and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, a team full of young prospects.

Sittingly comfortably at the top of the league on goal difference after the opening game, TSV travelled to Kaiserslautern on Wednesday determined to get all-3 points. An inspired performance in front of over 39,000 fans saw TSV take all of the points in a 3-1 victory. Debutant French full-back Benoit Tremoulinas opened the scoring after 22 minutes, before star signing Fernando Cavenaghi doubled the lead on 54 minutes, making it 5 in 2 games for the clinical Argentine. TSV's excellent new Hungarian Balazs Dzsudzsak extended his side's lead after 69 minutes with a poacher's finish, which was also his fourth goal in 2 games. Nicolas Pavlovic scored a consolation goal for Kaiserslautern, but TSV's opponents never looked like troubling the Mills brothers' side.

Die Bundesliga 2 is a very unpopulated division, with only 4 or 5 teams managed, and TSV played against their first managed team of the season when they came up against a TSG 1899 Hoffenheim side, which includes the likes of 85-rated, 20-year-old Brazilian starlet Marques Carlos Eduardo and 85-rated, 21-year-old Nigerian prospect Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi. Any fears which TSV fans may have had before the game were soon dismissed when once again, Argentine hitman Fernando Cavenaghi opened the scoring after only 7 minutes. After 55 minutes, Cavenaghi doubled his tally, as well as TSV's, to make the scoreline comfortable for die Löwen. With TSG pressing for a route back into the game, on loan playmaker Diego Buonanotte put the game beyond doubt on 66 minutes.

normal_Cavenaghi_(5).JPG

Fernando Cavenaghi is enjoying life in Bavaria with TSV, and is hoping that he can return to his national side under the Mills brothers' guidance.

The man of the match for both of the weeks games was Fernando Cavenaghi, which means he's been man of the match for every TSV game this season so far. An inspired signing by the Mills brothers, the £8m recruit from Bordeaux is the league's top scorer with 7 goals in 3 games, best performer with an average rating of 9.33 after the first 3 games and highest rated player, with a rating of 89. Cavenaghi is likely to be an integral part of 'the Mills revolution' not only for this season, but for many seasons to come, and if he carries on playing the way he is he'll no doubt add to the soul Argentine cap he has achieved in his career.

TSV have added more depth to their squad this week with the signings of 5 youth prospects, who have been signed with a view to long term success at the Bavarians. 19-year-old Argentina right-back Jose San Roman was first to sign, joining for a fee of £0.425m. The other four players to sign were all stars of the FIFA Under-20 World Championships in Canada last year. 18-year-old New Zealand forward Costa Barbarouses was signed for a measly £30k, followed by Nigerian 18-year-old defensive midfielder Oladapu Olufemu for £0.5m. 20-year-old Uruguayan right-midfielder Mathias Cardaccio also put pen to paper for TSV for a fee of £0.6m plus ageing defender Torben Hoffman, before Chilean goalscoring defensive rock Hans Martinez rounded off the week's transfer business, in a part exchange deal involving out-of-favour centre-back Lukas Szukala and ageing midfielder Danny Schwarz.

th_sm_AQ_U20WC20070722_001.JPG

Chilean defensive starlet, pictured after scoring a wondergoal against Austria in the FIFA Under-20 World Championships 3rd-placed playoff, is the next addition to 'the Mills revolution'.

Up next for TSV is a home fixture against SC Freiburg, a game which Mills' men go into in flying confidence. TSV sit at the top of die Bundesliga 2 with maximum points, a feat matched only by TSV's next away opponents FC St. Pauli. Both games will be featured in next Saturday's week update, but early signs are showing TSV are going to be playing Bundesliga 1 football next season. "Not only are they winning games, they are winning them easily" Assistant Manager Tom Mills pointed out. TSV have an excellent goal difference of +16 after only 3 games, scoring 18 and conceding only 2. This means die Löwen are scoring an average of 6 goals per game, with 4 players averaging a goal per game or more in the TSV squad. This shows that it isn't just the strikers scoring the goals. "We are looking forward to beating Bayern Munich next season", was the parting message from the Mills' brothers tonight...

Everton pick up first victory

31.gifEverton 2 - 1 Man Utd49.gif

Everton picked up their first win of the season at home to Manchester United of all teams. Winston changed the formation slightly and played Arteta in a more advanced role instead of wide on the right where Winston thought Arteta's quality is wasted.

It was not looking good for Everton early on as after just 1 minute they found themselves behind after Owen Hargreaves found the net. Everton had to wait until 10 minutes after the break to score when Yakubu scored with a well placed header. Yakubu scored the winner for Everton with just 5 minutes to go as he used his remarkable pace to burst past the Man Utd defenders and lash home a strike.

Espanyol lose to unbeaten Santander

Racing Santander 1-0 Espanyol

Saturday night's game turned out to be Espanyol's first league loss of the season. Losing to a unbeaten Racing Santander side at the El Sardiner. A full crowd of 22,000 turned up at the game in which Santander dominated 54% possession and had 14 shots on target the same as Espanyol, who had 46% of the possession. Santander took the lead in the 6th minute through Antonio Zinha smashing the ball into the net. Which was enough to give Santander a 1-0 lead at half time. And enough for them to come away with all three points.

Strasbourg Fall to First Defeat

Lyon 2-0 Strasbourg

Luke Deveney's Strasbourg suffered their first defeat of the season this evening away to French giants Lyon by two goals to 0. Despite the scoreline, Strasbourg were never disgraced and were always in the game, and restricted Lyon two only two shots on target but the quality shone through as Lyon took the two chances, and took away the three points from Gerland.

A star-studded outfit filled with big names such as Vieira, Kallstrom and Forlan were pitted against Deveney's work-man-like side, who gave as good as they got throughout, threatening on more than one occasion and could actually count themselves quite unlucky to not take anything from the tie, because if they played like that against a top side like Lyon on another day they may of grabbed a valuable away point. Sebastian Squillaci was the star of the show this evening, scoring a spectacular overhead kick as well as defending astutely over the 90 minutes. The 38th minute wonder-goal would of course be a tough act to follow but Fred managed to finish the tie as a contest on 72 minutes, as he tucked away a relatively comfortable finish after good build-up play from a classy Lyon midfield.

Strasbourg were regularly in touching distance of a team on another planet in terms of money and players, with Wilson Palacios impressing on his debut in the centre of midfield, despite missing a real chance with the game poised finely at 1-0. Although they have failed to pick up any points tonight for the first time this season, they need not be ashamed as they produced a high level performance away from home, and the signs are clearly good for the rest of the season.

SQUILLACI.jpgmom.gif Man of the Match, Sebastian Squillaci

Luke Deveney was seemingly very happy with his side's performance when interviewed by the BBC after the game:

The lads have put themselves about brilliantly tonight and deserve plenty of praise for a determined away performance, with signs of quality mixed in too. We were obviously playing a top quality side in Lyon and over the 90 minutes they did deserve the 3 points, but the signs are good for Strasbourg and i'm happy to be a major part of such a strong developing club.

Juventus Win Close Encounter

Juventus beat Atlanta 2-1 and therefore go 4th in Serie A. They have not lost a game yet in the league and there next match is against Atlanta again in the cup this time and Nick Gilardino has said he is putting out the reserves because the cup is not his main focus this season.

Juventus dominated all the match and the opposition hardly got a sniff. Goals coming from on loan Solomon Kalou and former Roma man Simone Perrota. man of the match goes to the first goal scorer Kalou thanks to his goal wich the commentator said......

A mix up in midfield enables Salomon KALOU to run through and confidently slams a low shot past the advancing keeper!

1 FC Koln Aquire New Manager

koln-fc.jpg

1 FC Koln Delighted as New Manager Noble Signs Contract

Welsh manager Chris Noble recently updated his status to Gold Membership and soon after found himself in negotiations with an under-achieving 1 FC Koln side.

Noble, 21, said in an interview

"This club has a lot of potential. With a large stadium, some talented players and a huge army of loyal fans we can expect a good successful season ahead of us, and we will be looking to challenge for a good spot high up in the table- maybe even pushing for promotion, who knows!

We have some tough games ahead of us, especially tomorrow nights game against a very strong TSV Munchen, who are just ahead of us in the league with a massive goal difference.

Over the next few weeks I will be looking at the squad carefully and I will be making some changes, I need to balance the squad out so we have no real weaknesses. I have a fair budget with which to do this, but as of the moment, I am looking for players rated 84+ to loan.

If any clubs are willing to loan any players, please contact me via PM..."

A full report of Chris' loan requirements is expected to hit the back page sometime in the near future, but as for now, he needs to get a coffee...

Jewiss Does The Oke Koke (Woah!)

After finding himslef at FSV Mainz 04 last night' date=' Jewiss was walking into the managers office to set himself up, before it was revealed by his agent that there had been a huge mistake in Jewiss' contract. The job offer was not for manager but it was in fact for Scout, and the salary which was reported to be £2,500,000 a year was actually £50,000 a year. Jewiss took this as a snub, and immediately got the next plane out of Germany and back to the UK, one of our reporters ironically was on that planes and managed to catch up with him, [b']'I fly all the way out here and epect the job, i get here to find that it has been changed considerably, and i ahve wasted a day of my life which i will never get back, i cannot believe the massive mistake which has been done here and someone should have loooked more carefully'.[/b]

However its not all doom and gloom, after the amazing sacking at Pompey, who are at the top of the pile, Jewiss has now made his way back into the premiership at the other end of the table with Sunderland! Jewiss had this to say about this surprise appointment, 'I held taks with Sunderland before i flew to Germany, but nothing came about it, but on the flight back, the Sunderland chairman met me at the airport we had a chat and i was offered the job, money wasnt mentioned which i didnt care about as i was pleased to be offered the job which i gratefully acceoted.

Sparky was delighted with the news, when interviewed, he had this to say:

"Muahahahahahaha"

That's all from now ;)

Strasbourg Back to Business

Metz 1-3 Strasbourg

After last week's home thumping by Saint-Etienne, Strasbourg have bounced back impressively to pick up a valuable away victory against Metz by 3-1. Strasbourg looked much more like their normal selves after the last two defeats, and looked comfortable throughout the ninety minutes despite losing influential Honduran midfielder Wilson Palacios after just 27 minutes for an ugly high challenge, which led to his dismissal.

After only 20 minutes of the tie, Strasbourg were looking very comfortable but they were certainly handed a gift for their opener, as a terribly short back-pass was picked up by key Columbian forward Wason Renteria who happily took the present, and slid the ball home past the advancing Thomas Mhyre. This settled down Strasbourg and they were passing the ball very well and keeping possession until the Palacios sending-off, which seemed to give Metz a sniff of hope which they did take to level the game at 1-1. Another defensive error allowed the chance for Renato Civelli which he took.

Despite the set back before half-time, Strasbourg got straight back into business after the break, and were keeping possession at will in the Saint-Symphorien stadium. This calibre of passing and amount of possession always looked as though it would lead to another goal, and Wason Renteria was the man to finish off one of a number of good moves, as he climbed high above his marker at the back post and placed home a bullet header to give Strasbourg the lead. Despite going down to ten men, and being away from home, Strasbourg still never looked like losing the game from here, and finished off the tie with four minutes to play, when Brazilian defensive midfielder Ferrugem Rodrigo arrived late in the box to crash home a header and seal another three points for Deveney's Strasbourg, which moves them back up the table into 7th. Metz were certainly not at their best, and they are sinking down the table now at a quite rapid rate. The man of the match went to Strasbourg's Mexican goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo who played very well away from home, despite his team's victory.

mom.gifMan of the Match, Cirilo Saucedo.

Luke Deveney was caught up with after Strasbourg's victory over Metz tonight, and had this to say:

I personally enjoyed watching my side play tonight, you can look at the stats for an easy and simple description of how the game went, we absolutely dominated possession and scored 3 away goals, despite the unfortunate sending off of Wilson, who we will miss. We have Sochaux away next, and will be determined to take three points once again as we improve with every game this season. The press felt as though we wouldn't do anything this season and be rooted around the bottom reaches of the league, but we are showing that we can mix it with the best of them, and so may it continue.
