Re: Profound and Touching Quotes Thread

Not profound or touching but a couple of quotes from that legend that is Gordon Strachan.

Reporter: "Gordon' date=' can we have a quick word please?"

Strachan: "Velocity" (walks off).

So witty for a wee man :)

-------

Talking about Wayne Rooney: "It's an incredible rise to stardom. At 17 you're more likely to get a call from Michael Jackson than Sven Goran Eriksson."

From back when Rooney had hair [not that artificial turf].

----

Gary Lineker: “So Gordon, if you were English, what formation would you play?”

Strachan: “If I was English I'd top myself!”

Legend.

That bottom quote is slightly ironic as Glasgow has a shocking rate of suicide. And drug use. And alcoholism. And heart disease. And shockingly low life expectancy. I'm guessing being Scottish isn't a barrel of laughs. Well, it isn't. I've been there enough times to see what they're like.

Create a fake enemy = more internal unity (friends and teamwork)

In football, Mourinho does this in every club - Chelsea, Inter, Real, Porto...

Bush did it with Iraq successfully (as in he got an OK to attack Iraq for no reason). In the end it didn't work so well..both militarily and from a humanitarian perspective.

Re: Profound and Touching Quotes Thread

Ok' date=' i didn't get that at all.[/quote']

Never mind then, it's an analogy about threat and unity :)

Iraq:

a. Rumsfeld wants to attack Iraq for some nonsense reasons

b. Rumsfeld makes up some facts and tells Bush to announce them to the American public

c. Bush says Hussein has weapons of mass destruction

d. Americans are scared and no one knows the facts because everyone is too busy minding their own business

e. Bush and Rumsfeld have the support to attack Iraq

Same concept applies to football and banter.
