Mad Leprechaun 243
Re: Grudge match set-up transfer/news/match report thread Fiorentina get off to winning start Fiorentina got off to a winning start to life in division 1 after there promotion from division 2 last season. The first game of the season saw the Italian giants travel to Mexico to face América in the Azteca Stadium which was nearly full. Fiorentina took the lead very early on thanks to Martin Jorgensen's shot from acute angle. The Danish man sent the ten thousand traveling fans wild with his goal.Just two minutes after that Cabanas sent Frey stumbling back after he chipped him but the keeper managed to tip it over the bar.It was quite a boring first hal;f but the second half started off exciting when Cabanas chipped Frey again but this time his shot hit the crossbar.Benni McCarthy hit the post just after the hour mark. That was the last real chance of the game which means Fiorentina got the three points and a good start to the season. Austin 850
Re: Grudge match set-up transfer/news/match report thread Chelsea get of to a winning start! The start of the new season saw Chelsea travel to France to take on French Champions Lyon at the start of a hopefully prosperous season. 1 - 2 the match got off to a good start, Frank Lampard hitting the outside of the post after 3 minutes of play. Lyon looked to enertain rather than win and got the crowd wild after some marvellous footworrk from Benzema. The first booking of the game went to Drogba, after a horrendous tackle in which he was lucky to have only yellow. But Chelsea took the lead in the second half, Michael Essien scoring from 15 yards out for the first goal Africa Magic!!! More bookings were handed out to both Cole's, but it served no detterent as Drogba beat two defenders to slot home the second of the match. Drogba scores! Juninho pulled one back fir the visitors, but it was Chelseas day as they ran out winners and looked set to launch a title and promotion race.
MrNiceGuy 649
Re: Grudge match set-up transfer/news/match report thread 1 - 2 Division 3 Champions Roma started the new season with 3 points away at Porto, with a 2-1 victory, in a stunningly commanding performance in which saw them hold 69% of the possession in the match. Last season's top scorer, and Man of the Match, Ezquiel Lavezzi suitably got things underway in the 19th minute when he latched on to a poor back-pass, although just a minute before the break John Carew drew the scores level at 1-1, with a screamer from outsie the box. Just 5 minutes after the break, Daniele De Rossi regained the advantage for Roma, slotting hom from just a yard, and there was no way back for Porto from here with Roma controlling the ball and limiting any opportunities for the home side. Roma have made just two deals in pre-season, with fans favourite Francesco Totti leaving the club, in a deal which saw Roman Pavlyuchenko and Gareth Barry join from Ajax, along with a fee of £10million. The other transfer saw the arrival of Salomon Kalou from Bayer Leverkeusen, in return for a fee of £13million, along with Ludovic Giuly and Gianluca Curci.
Austin 850
Re: Grudge match set-up transfer/news/match report thread Chelsea maintain 100% record! After their away win at France, the next game saw Chelsea face German Champions Bayern at home in a packed Stamford Bridge. It saw Chelsea as slight favorites thanks to the home advantage, but the manager wasnt letting that in his player's heads. 2 - 0 the match got off to a great start,Drogba powerfully heading into the goal thanks to a well measured cross fro Joe Cole. Ricardo Carvalho was later booked after a late challenge which saw Chelsea receive their third booking in two games, an unenviable record. Having the lead, Chelsea settled into a cosy defensive game, passing the ball to and fro lazily around the back, while Bayern fumed and tried to get the ball back. After the break, Bayern came out with some strong attacking fooball, but Cech was equal to anything they could prove. Michael Essien got himself booked to make it four in two for Chelsea. In the 75th minute, a substitution saw Drogba make way for Russiann sensation Pogrenbyak, who promptly scored on his debut day to clinch the 2-0 victory for Chelsea. essien, got booked Drogba, scored again today, this time, in front of his fans Carvalho, stop getting booked! Pogrenbyak, suber sub!
Austin 850
Re: Grudge match set-up transfer/news/match report thread Chelsea demolish Barca to maintain unfazed record! Chelsea took on Barcelona at Stamford Bridge in fairly confident mood, but nothing prepared them for the romping they were about to land on Barca. 4 - 0 Chelsea started off the match in a daze, Anelka opening the scoring in 2 minutes after shooting from an acute angle. Then 5 minutes later, Mikel Obi headed in from a cross to make it 2 - 0 Chelsea continued to press and they increased their lead soon enough, Alex running from defence to shoot in his 1st of the season. And finally the ball came to the man who scores every match(Drogba), and he rasped home a screamer to complete a 4 - 0 romp. He was later booked for taking off his shirt in celebratio. In the 75th minute, he was taken off for Pogrenbyak, who ran and shot and passed, but couldnt fnd the net.Nevertheless, he was given his deserved 10 rating. Chelsea march on, having been given a bye in the cup, and they'll face Boca on Thursday. opened up the scoring mikel obi-Goal number two! Alex, mom and goal scorer Drogba, keeps up his scoring everyday record, and also got a booking:o

MrNiceGuy 649
Re: Grudge match set-up transfer/news/match report thread 7th August 2008 2 - 1 Roma continued the season as they started with another three points, as home to Mallorca. Mallorca took the lead just 2 minutes before half time when Stefan Kiessling caught Roma off-guard, to score with Mallorca's only shot on target in the game. Roma were clearly aggreived by the goal, and came out all guns blazing in the second half, with Marco Cassetti drawing the teams level at 1-1 in the 49th minute. Roma continued to dominate, however it took until the 69th minute for them to take the lead, with Cassetti's defensive partner Philippe Mexes hammered the ball home from distance. This is how the scoreline remained, and gave Roma back to back wins to start the season. 10th August 2008 4 - 2 The 100% record continued in the third game of the season for Roma, with another convincing display, defeating Portsmouth 4-2 and Stadio Olympico, in front of an improving attendance of 68777. The result was never really in doubt after Roma took a 3-0 lead in just over half an hour, with Daniele De Rossi (2), Alessandro Mancini (28) and Simone Perrotta (31) supplying the goals. Portmsouth struck back through Jermaine Defoe in the 36th minute, leaving the sides at 3-1 at half-time. Just three minutes after the break, Niko Kranjcar gave the away side hope pulling the scores back to 3-2 with a 20yard thunderbolt. But Alberto Aquilani ragined the advantage for Roma in the 64th minute, and Roma saw out a comfortable victory. A perfect start for Roma, with a maximum 9 points from the first three games. This sees them level with Juventus and Real Madrid, but holding third due to goal difference.

Despite you joining a few games into the season, I have to say you were the most committed captain of all the sides and I won't forget that when future Smartdoc set-ups are made . It's a shame that the table concept has failed but the time commitment for it was truely to much for one person and I apologise to all in the set-up. Unfortunately, the request for captains has also not generated too many volunteers, so for now the team aspect of the set-up has stalled. If any member of the set-up is prepared to take on the role of points calculating (even if they want to create their own new points system) please feel free to PM me and we can discuss this. Roma again dominated the play, although failed to produce any other scoring opportunities during the match. Tue 19 Aug 2008 Grudge Match Set-up Cup Round 2 2 - 0 A brace from new signing Roman Pavlyuchenko (20 & 73) saw Roma through to the third round of the Cup, although the game was a tight afair, with Roma maintainin slightly more of the ball, but Portsmouth carving out more opportunities. Again it was Roma's clinical style of play that got them the win. Roma have also captured the signings of four hot prospects in the last 48 hours, with Jose Baxter (£75k), Rodrigo Possebon (£1.1M) and Pereira Rafael Da Silva (£1.1M) joining the club for what could prove to exceptional fees in the future, if they live up to expectation. Chelsea hosted Everton at Stamford Bridge hoping to fulfill the chairman's desires of a cup triumph this season.Chelsea rested their main squad though, and they were nearly punished for this, as a spirited Everton side fought and struggled to beat Chelsea. 0: Kick-Off 1: A low shot from Steven PIENAAR is palmed away by the keeper 5: Petr CECH is at hand to clear the danger 7: A lot of running and determination shown by Michael BALLACK today! 13: A free header by Michael BALLACK hardly troubles the keeper 15: BOOKED - Steve SIDWELL for gamemanship 17: Aiyegbeni YAKUBU darts down the wing with little interference from the opposition 19: A delicate chip has Petr CECH stumbling back towards goal 22: GOAL!! - A corner is headed clear only as far as Andriy SHEVCHENKO who hits it on the half-volley into the roof of the net! 27: Michael BALLACK is clean through on goal with only the keeper to beat, but hits the outside of the post 28: Aiyegbeni YAKUBU lacks the final touch 33: The ball almost rolls into the back of the net, but Petr CECH just about stops the ball on the line! 37: GOAL!! - Where is the defence?!? MrNiceGuy 649
Re: Grudge match set-up transfer/news/match report thread Roma Jinx Since the announcement of Mr Nice Guy winning the prestigious Manager of the Season award for Season 1, Roma's league form has faultered in devestating style. The 5 game winning streak to start the season was ended with a 2-2 draw away to Hamburg, with Juan and Taddei both suffering injuries. This was followed by a 1-0 home defeat against Feyenoord, which also say an injury to Bilyaletdinov. Order was briefly restored with a 4-1 3rd round cup win over Lyon, but the league form suffered again with a 1-0 away defeat to Arsenal, and yet more injuries, this time to De Rossi and Garay. Roma play at home to Rangers tonight, and will be hoping to get back to winning ways, as they now trail league leaders Real Madrid by 6 points. Roma are also looking to bring in some players to cope with the cup schedule, with the injuries meaning the remaining players having to play more games than desired. Austin 850
Re: Grudge match set-up transfer/news/match report thread Chelsea reach cup final, improve league form Chelsea have finally gotten form in their past 6 matches, reaching the cup final and gaining some impressive victories along the way. 0 - 1 Chelsea Chelsea took un unmanaged league leaders Tottenham hotspur in the 3rd round of the cup, as they sought for glory. A totally dominant first half saw chances from Alex, Drogba,Anelka, and a host of other Chelsea players fire wide in the opening stages of the half. They completely controlled the possesion, but they didn't seem to know how to use it. In the second half, Alex burst through the rear guard, losing his marker and thumping a low one under the goalkeeper to seal off the away win and spell progress for Chelsea, as they marched on . 1 - 1 Chelsea Tottenham were ready for Chelsea this time, but Chelsea scored first through a screamer from Joe Cole. Spurred on,they continued to put on the pressure, but Silva pulled one back for Tottenham in the 21st minute. Chelsea continued to add pressure, having 58% of the ball, but Tottenham held on for a draw. A match terribly dominated, but an undeserving draw. cech was awarded the mom award though,..suprising,seeing as spurs had only 6 shots to Chelsea's 18 on goal. Chelsea 5 - 0 malouda opened the scoring with a high drive from 20 yards out.Chelsea were ahead on 4 minutes, and they never looked back. ballack rolled the ball into the net after some lousy defending by United, and another volley for Malouda put them 3 - 0 up at half time. drogba put it 4 - 0 after the break after a terrible clearance, and one more goal from Malouda, who was in great from, killed off the game for the home team. A hooping 5 - 0 win, and Chelsea were in great form 1 - 2 Chelsea Chelsea took on Boca Juniors away from home in the quarter finals of the cup, hoping for a significant win as they moved toward the cup. Goals from Ballack and Cole won the match for the away team, who held 68% of the possesion and ammased 33 shots and 18 on goal. Chelsea needed to work on their finishing though 2 - 1Chelsea Chelsea fell to Liverpool despite controllung 54% of the possesion, having far more shots, and basically had the game in their clutches. But Anelka's goal was cancelled out by strikes from Gerrargd and carragher, and Chelsea lost the match Chelsea 4- 0 It was essential that Chelsea regain form ahead of their semi final, and they recovered remarkably, Malouda, a double from Ballack, and a strike by Drogba winning a romping killer for the home side. Chelsea were finally in good shape, and with Roma loing at home at the weekend, it looked as though the cup was already theirs. 2 - 2 The tension was unquestionable as the players filed out. But Chelsea put all worries aside as Mikel Obi beat tow defenders and gave them the lead in just the first minute. Roma started to play as well, and it was an evenly contested match throughout. Mancini blasted wide in front of a gaping goal in the first half, and was given a nice knock on the head by the coach. A nice effort from Joe Cole hit the bar, while some flying saves from Cech kept Chelsea ahead. The score was 1 - 0 at half time. Chelsea made exactly the same start they did in the first, Shevchenko, who has scored in every match he has started, rounding the keeper to make it 2 - 0. But Roma started blazing,Mancin amending for his earlier miss when he showed composire to slot home. Cech was deep into the game and showed very good reflexes to make good saves, but Palyuvchenko nearly scored for Roma in the dying minutes. Belleti was broughton for Drogba in the 75th minute after notifying the manager he wanted to becaome a forward from now on, and he came on, played like sh1t, and got a 4 rating, whereas Roma took advantage and grabbed a goal through Bentley 2 minutes from time. Tha match went into penalties, and Chelsea won by 4 - 1, the manager threatning them to watch the video evil dead if they lost. They won hoever, and Chelsea march into the cup final against Espanyol, confident of a repeat of theier great romp two days ago. opened up the scoring for Chelski keep on getting them sheva! Austin 850
Re: Grudge match set-up transfer/news/match report thread A late find of form have helped Chelsea move into the promotion slots, as they seek to add the title to their cup victory. Their new change from 3-4-2-1 to 3-4-1-2 has been their major transformation, putting them into second with 4 games to go. Last 6 games Chelsea 0 - 1 Boca A terrible loss in a match which Chelsea dominated on chances and shots, but could not find that goal, Ledesma scoring the lone goal to give the visitors an away win. Sevilla 1 - 2 Chelsea Chelsea traveled to Spain to face the side that had inflicted their first defeat of the season. Goals from Ballack and Malouda sealed the win, Luis Fabiano's consolation just not enough for the home team. Chelsea 2 - 1 Milan A win was essenial here, as Chelsea seemed to have found form, in spite of the shock defeat against Boca. Umunegbu's opener seemed irrevlevant, as Malouda and Anelka were on target to inflict a comfy defeat on Kyle Turner;s team. Valencia 2 - 4 Chelski After an embarrasing 2 - 0 ome loss when they first met,Chelsea were eager to make amends, and they did,Drogba, Malouda, Anelka and Ballack drowining out Marchena and Albiols's goals. Chelsea 2 - 2 Totts It was to be an uncomfortable match, the two sides having met twice already in which Chelsea won and drew one,but Tottenham cancelled out Maoluda and Ballack's goals to see a share of the spoils today. It was a fery match, Ballack, nearly chipping the keeper, Cech srambling to make saves, and Drogba trying his luck and hitting it into the back row, Cole missed an easy tap in in the middle of the half, and Rooney and Nesmanchiyi both came close for the home team. The breakthrough came from Chelsea however, a long range strike from Drogba resting in the top corner, and Chelsea took all the points home...
