Alloa Athletic News

The Big K.O

Greig Spence's Alloa Athletic Took On Loius Mattis's Celtic At Parkhead Glasgow. Spence wasnt expecting much more than a defeat as their was a clear gulf in class beetween the teams before kick of.

199_front_small.gif v 421.gif

The game started well for Alloa as the managed to hold the scottish champions for 59 minutes untill dacourt broke frew the deffence and slotted home a neat goal. spence's team had many shots on goal but failed to convert any of the ten chances they were given. Celtic got the second goal in the last minute as sheer class from tomas rosicky finished the game of. Alloa will be really happy with them game as parkhead is a fortress to go to but it wasnt that intimidating place last night and spence is happy to get the game out of the wayy. Alloa will rue miss chances but knows if they perform like this all season they have a great chance of proving their worth.

Lille Start with Away Win Without Cabaye

610x.jpg

Lille match winner Stephan Lichtsteiner

Le Mans Saturday 3rd May 2008

Swiss International Stephan Lichtsteiner fired Lille to a deserved away win in Le Mans last night courtesy of a lucky deflection. While there was an element of good fortune in the goal it was just about justice done as Lilles midfield controlled the game, although the team lacked a little cutting edge in the final third of the pitch. Goalkeeper Tony Sylva had a fine night in goal for Les Dogues making several acorobtic saves.

New Lille Manager Nathan Wright had come under fire from Lille fans in recent days for allowing very promising young midfielder Yohan Cabaye to leave for Newcastle in exchange for £15million, Nicky Butt and Mark Viduka. This topic dominated the post match interview.

VIDUKA_narrowweb__300x407,0.jpg

New Lille striker Mark Viduka

Wright explained that keeping star midfielders Rio Mavuba and Jean Makoun was his main priority. When Newcastle made an attractive offer for Cabaye, Wright was able to negotiate Viduka and Butt coming to Lille as part of the deal.

"Although we didn't want to let Yohan go I felt this deal was right for Lille. It is a real coup for us to sign a striker of Marks calibre particularly in the current transfer climate where nobody wants to let good players go for reasonable or even generous prices. The arrival of Viduka gives us much needed firepower up front, provides money for further strengthening of the squad and enables us to not have to consider offers for the young stars of our team such as Makoun and Mavuba."

Wright has used the £15 million recieved quickly to bring in Japanese international midfielder Yasuhito Endo from J league side Gamba Osaka and Argentine defender Renato Civelli from Argentinian team Gimnasia la Plata. Civelli is familiar with the French league having previously played for Marseille in the 2006/2007 season. Both players are believed to have cost in the region of £7.5 million each.

"I consider these two players joining Lille great business for us. I'm surprised they hadn't be snapped up by bigger clubs sooner. Both have a chance of fighting for a first team place immediatly."

7476_0.jpg

Yasuhito Endo

58029_1159042295.jpg

Renato Civelli

They join other new signings forward Antonio De Nigris and defender Dmitri Godunek in the squad. Wright has confirmed he is in the market for a right back and expects to enter negotiations for a target very soon. Beyond that he is pleased with the players available to him and believes the squad can challenge for honours on all fronts.

"Outside of Lyon there are no teams I would consider to have a vastly superior squad to us. I believe we have the pieces in place to compete in this league and the cups. It is now up to us to show and prove."

If the winning carries on and Viduka starts regularly finding the back of the net the anger over the loss of Cabaye will disappear. As for now the Jury is still out.

Benfica - Week 1 - Review

200px-SL_Benfica_logo.svg.png

benfica-2006-2007-home-kit.jpg

The Transfers

Benfica1.jpg[/img]

The mainly bussiness week, the first, has resulted in the signings of 11 players overall, and 12 leaving Benfica. The most notable signing was one of Tommaso Rocchi. Toggs was more than happy to let Cardozo leave in the deal, and along with Rocchi, 7M into the funds at Benfica. Toggs was overwhelmed at the deal saying he never approached Rocchi and was surprised to get such a great offer, with him in it. Rocchi had shown he'd settled in quickly with life in Portugal after scoring twice in yesterdays win against Al-Ahly.

Arguably the most prospectful signing of them all, Spanish startlet Alberto Zapater joined the forces at Benfica. Toggs was also estatic with this signing. He was sad to see leave to be club capatin Petit and youngster Di Maria in the deal but seems happy that Zapater will make up for what Benfica have lost.

Craig Gordon joined from Sunderland. Toggs hopes that Gordon can stop the goals from flying in at Benfica. Gordon was more than happy to comer to the warmer climate Portugal, saying it was both a big change of setting and style of football than his days in England and Scotland. Out of favour Quim left in the deal, who Toggs was never keen of, along with Edcarlos and 5M.

Diego Rincon also joined Benfica from 'unavaliable to manage' Corinthians. Toggs was happy he lured Diego to join Benfica, and thinks the Brazillian will be a great asset to Benfica, despite mysteriously being left out of Saturday's side, his place beaten to by depaturing Rodriguez.

The last signing i would like to mention is Gonul Gokhan. The 26 year old joined from Turkish outfit Fenerbahce for a fee of 4M, Makaulala and Adu. Gokhan, who has risen 18 ratings in the ladt two reviews of Turkey, was estatic with the move and says he wants to show his talents on a greater stage, and that it was possible to do so at Benfica. Toggs was pleased with the deal saying thrre was alot after him, and alot will be on his side in the future to continue doing well. Im happy we lured him to Benfica.

That list though will change in the morning...

118874025089.jpeg

Toggs has agreed a deal with league rivals FC Porto that sees Rodriguez head to the Dragao. Toggs discussed the deal thorughly with FC Porto manager Carbon, before agreeing a deal that sees Marek Cech and Ernasto Farias join Benfica. He said:

Toggs Thomas: I am happy with letting Rodriguez go for such a deal. I feel we have proportionate cover for him in the form of Rincon and if needed, Zapater. Its no secret that we need a Left Back and Cech will suit the role here nicely. I am confident he wont be going down in rating any time soon. Fairas will be cover for Rocchi and Nuno. Having Fairas will enable me to try different formations that i havent been able to before.

60694.jpg

564281_mediumsquare.jpg

Cech (Above) and Farias (Below) are set to join Benfica

The deal also sees 1M added to the Benfica Transfer account.

The Results

To this moment, Benfica have played two matches, one a friendly and one in the Medditeranian League.

Toggs wasnt relishing the hostile atmosphere as they headed to Russia to play Luke's (Deveeny's) Zenit St Petersburg in which was described by The Sun, 'A Competitive game of Non Competitive football.'

Benfica were pressed by Zenit the opening quarter of an hour, Gordon tested as they dominated possesion in the middle of the park. Before after 17 Minutes, Rocchi fired home to give Benfica an early lead, and Rocchi opened his account at Benfica, despite it not actually going into the books. Toggs;es style of football never looked back then, as they attacked with force, creating many chances as they went into half-time.

After the half-time break theyre wasnt no looking back, despite Zenit hitting Benfica on the ciunter resentlessly, a mistake at the back left MoM Perriera through with an easy finish. It left Benfica keeping possesion until the game came to a close. Toggs happy with the teams performance.

Benfica2.jpg[/img]

Then came the first match of the season. It came against Al-Ahly, and quite a test for Toggs.

Al-Ahly, with there transformed squad never really got a foot in on the game, and Benfica took the lead after 19 Minutes thorugh favoured Rodriguez, whom started the game ahea dof Rincon. That lead was soon doubled as Rocchi's long range attempt creeped under the keeper and into the net. It stayed that way until half-time.

They came back out and Al-Ahly were on the back foot from the go. Zapater and Gokhan both with chances that Pinto in the Al-Ahly goal. All was over as Rocchi headed home his 2nd and Benfica 3rd after 53 Minutes. Jamie Calistron got Al-Ahly a late constallation but it was never going to be enough to salvage anything from the game.

Deal falls through, another is made !

Another super 2-0 win over Auxerre today sees Lyon go top of the league.

It was Diego who hit the 2 goals, to bring his tally to 3 goals already. Assists by Squillaci and Fabiano this game.

Next up, Benfica in the forumers tournament. Should be a good 'en

Scorers

Sanchez JOSE ENRIQUE (Newcastle Utd), 1 min

Diego LUGANO (Newcastle Utd), 42 mins

Achille EMANA (Newcastle Utd), 57 mins

Hernández XAVI (Manchester Utd), 41 mins

Wayne ROONEY (Manchester Utd), 46 mins

Newcastle Utd followed up their opening day win with a great win over title favorites Manchester Utd, the game had barely kicked off when Newcastle Utd got their first goal and it was scored by Spanish defender Sanchez JOSE ENRIQUE in the 1st minute, the second goal was an equalizer for Man Utd and it was another Spaniard who scored but this time it was Hernández XAVI on the 41st minute but only one minute later Newcastle Utd had retaken the lead and it was Diego LUGANO who had put Newcastle Utd 2-1 ahead going into the break.

Man Utd didn't take much time in scoring when the second half got underway as Wayne ROONEY got an equalizer to make it 2-2 on the 46th minute but Newcastle Utd were not to be denied there win as new signing Achille EMANA got the winning goal on the 57th minute to cap off a perfect debut for the former Toulouse man and to give Newcastle Utd the full three points.

Team-Building continues, Toggs is content with draw against Aris

Benfica 2-2 Aris

Toggs was happy with the 2-2 draw against Aris on Wednesday despite it meaning they slip to 5th in the table.

Benfica took the lead after 36 Minutes through Rocchi, but his goal was worthless as MoM Nacho Garcia leveled the match for Aris. Garcia then put Aris ahead after 57 Minutes but Nuno Gomes equallized 2 minutes later.

Toggs is happy now after both Assuncao and Lugano have joined Benfica. They face FK Partizan on Saturday which Toggs expects to be a 'Goal-Fest', Lugano is expected his debut and Farias, who is also joining from FC Porto could make his debut on Saturday.

Change of formation brings first win

32.gifFulham 1 - 2 Aston Villa2.gif

After a disappointing opening day defeat Villa manager Dai Winston shuffled his team around slightly to see if it would have any effect and happily it resulted in an away win.

Villa took the lead when pre season signing Hugo Rodallega scored, the Mexican showed great skill to get past a defender and curled in a pearler from 25 yards on his first start for the club, certainly on for the scrap book. The half time score was 1-0 to Villa.

( Mexican debutant Rodallega scored to make it 1-0 at half time to Villa )

Fulham equalized after just 3 minutes of the second half through American Clint Dempsey, this kick started Villa back into life and they could of scored more goals. In the end they only scored another one when Ashley Young found himself in the right place at the right time to poke the ball into the net after a goal mouth scramble.

Rampant Rubin Rout Russian Strugglers

rubin.gif

Last night, Tom Mills' Russian revolution at Rubin Kazan kick-started with an explosive peformance away at South Russian side Krylia Sovetov. The unmanaged outfit were always second favourites despite home advantage. Even so, the gulf of quality between the two relatively unknown Russian sides was evident from the word go, and left the majority of the 33,192 spectators at Metallurg Stadium, in Samara, demoralised.

Despite a quiet and edgy opening 10 minutes to the game, which saw the home side have the better chances, there were only 11 minutes on the clock when the travelling Central Russians showed their superiority. Turkish international Karadeniz Gokdeniz finished neatly after beating the offside tap to send the Rubin fans into raptures. The home side then seemed to wake up from this early setback, and reacted with a number of good opportunities to equalise, but their lack of striking quality cost them on 18 minutes, when Mexican winger Pablo Barrera emphatically doubled the away side's lead after a skillful run. 6 minutes later, the game was effectively over when Argentine striker Gustavo Balvorin tripled Rubin's lead, driving the ball past the keeper after darting past a flat-footed defence. Interestingly, a minute later, the home side pulled a goal back when Igor Shevchenko scored from a yard out to give the home side a possible route back into the game. The revival never looked likely, however, and on 39 minutes Savo Milosevic bundled the ball over the line to boost the goal-cushion back to 3 for Kazan-based side, and was the last real action of the first half.

20-pablo-barrera-370x270.jpg

Young Mexican winger Pablo Barrera delighted the fans with an exquisite finish, after a mazy run, and looks set for a bright future in Russia.

Half Time: Krylia Sovetov 1-4 Rubin Kazan

With no-one to give an inspirational team-talk, the home side were almost non-existent in the second-half. Even so, they held the dominant Rubin Kazan until the 56th minute before the scoreline became even more one-sided, when Mexican starlet Julio Cesar Dominguez lashed in a clinical shot after powering his way through the Krylia Sovetov defence. 2 minutes later, Savo Milosevic doubled his tally with an athletic diving header at the back post. In truth, had Karadeniz Gokdeniz not been sent off for a professional foul on the 63rd minute, Rubin Kazan may well have hit double-figures against a lacklustre home-side. Even with only 10-men, Rubin still had the quality to hit a seventh, only 3 minutes after being reduced a player, when Argentine veteran Gustavo Balvorin cleverly finished after a good move - doubling his personal tally and bringing a close to the goalscoring action at the Metallurg Stadium. The remaining 25 minutes was relatively even, but the Rubin Kazan defence never looked like being breached, and finished the game comfortably with a win that gives Rubin a healthy boost in both their points tally and goal difference.

Full Time: Krylia Sovetov 1 (1)-(4) 7 Rubin Kazan

The Man of the Match could've been any of the midfielders or attackers in the Rubin Kazan team, and was deservedly won by Gustavo Balvorin. The newly-signed Argentine showed confidence and composure in front of goal to grab himself 2 goals, as well as giving a good overall performance. A number of Rubin fans have praised manager Tom Mills for what they have called "an inspired signing." After the match, Mills made this statement, "I'm absolutely delighted with the result and the performance against a team who can be described as 'a potential banana skin'. My strikers have shown real professionalism to listen to my criticism and use the skills learned in training to show such high quality in front of goal. Onwards and upwards from here."

10668.jpg

Argentine forward Gustavo Balvorin has been in fine form since joining from Velez Sarsfield

Since the opening day draw against Dynamo Kiev, there has been no further activity in the transfer market, but Mills has urged fans to believe in the current squad, who he believes are more-than-capable of mounting a real challenge to the Eastern European title.

Next up for Rubin Kazan is another away game, this time against Spartak Nalchik. The managerless outfit are very much second favourites for the tie, with Rubin Kazan having two advantages over the team on the Georgian border - they have a manager and a much stronger squad. However, despite those two advantages, the long journey may provide a potential stumbling block for the Central Russians. Rubin Kazan manager Tom Mills believes if his team dispatch Spartak Nalchik comfortably, that will show the type of wins that are needed to mount serious title-challenges, and this is something the Englishman has been confident of all along.

Getting Closer & Closer

Alloa Athletic took on a strong kilmarnock team at rugby park , west scotland. Greig spence's men never looked like winning the game but spence knows this season is just a transinvitional peroid where he is looking to build a side who could challenge for higher things in years to come. Spence's Alloa scored their first game in the 89th minute , as a great team move was finished of by Tenesite the striker from Uraguay. Many people say we will not win a game but i can gurantee we will get on the points board after we play St mirren at recreation park saturday:)

The manager was critised at the beginning of the season by selling the clubs star players Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Pepe Reina but the manager Liam stated he needed to bulk the squad for the heavy schedule for being a top 20 side.

With a whole new midfield and striking options time would tell how well the manager has done for the club, also he only kept 6 of the original players from the team.

The biggest signings he made were Vidic and Tevez with two future star players which will be key for the next 5 seasons were Anderson and Nani.

Sunderland 0-3 Liverpool

Nani (8th min)

Toulalan (26th min)

Tevez (89th min)

Liverpool's first game were up agaisnt newly promoted Sunderland which wanted the 3 points just as bad as Liverpool, with no one knowing what would happen. The games goals scorers were former Man U boys Tevez and Nani also with a Toulalan goal helped Liverpool to the first 3 points of the campaign.

Liverpool 5-3 Middlesborough

Tevez (2nd min)Broggi(29th min)

Toulalan(24th min)O'Neil(39th min)

Altintop(53th min)Veron(88th min)

Simon Rolfes (69th min)

Luís Nani (84th min)

Liverpool found this game a little harder as the opposition were stronger and Boro were looking for their 1st win.The Liverpool manager Liam said the key players for the last two games were Nani, Tevez and Toulalan and he felt they may not have won this game without them and the trio have scored 2 in as many games.

Liverpool 1-0 Everton

Altintop (83rd min)

This game was the most important game of the season so far, as it's the merseyside derby and the fans of both sides were in their numbers. The game was nip and tuck until the Liverpool fans sang and the break through came in the 83rd minute until Turkish International half volleyed the ball in the corner and sent fans mad throught the last 10 minutes. With Everton now in a bad position after this defeat Merseyside will be shining red tonight.

So after 3 wins out of 3 for the season Liverpool lead the Premier League by 2 points with their closet rivals being Newcastle. Our next game is against Derby County and we can expect surprises as some players will be rested but we still hope for a win.

FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON TONIGHT

258.gif

Lokomotiv Moskva 3-2 Metalist Kharkiv

With an opening day defeat, it was followed by a very respectable home draw with giants CSKA Moskva with Diaby hitting a double in the defeat to Legia Warszaw. Loanee Amauri struck against CSKA, with Diaby on the scoresheet again as he starts well.

Russian star Diniyar Bilyaletdinov struck after only four minutes in tonight's match with his strike settling the capacity crowd inside the Lokomotiv. Goals from Adamov and Biscayzacu for the visitors looked to see them go in at the break level, but for a debut goal for Luis Mosquera. And after the break, with their domination, a 58th minute strike, and his fourth of the season, Abou Diaby curled in a shot from 25 yards to bring Lokomotiv to their first league win of the campaign, and Philp's first as their manager.

Lokomotiv sit ninth currently, but Philp and everyone at the club knows that it is early days yet and he hopes for a win away at Wisla Krakow in their next match when he meets good friend Andy Miller. The boss knows a win is vital to keep in touch at the top.
