EURO2008-Portuguese squad

Recommended Posts

Yesterday Scolari named the 23 players that will be in EURO2008 and they are..

Goalkeepers:

Ricardo (Bétis), Quim (Benfica) e Rui Patrício (Sporting);

Defenders:

Bosingwa (F.C. Porto), Paulo Ferreira (Chelsea), Miguel (Valência), Jorge Ribeiro (Boavista), Fernando Meira (Estugarda), Ricardo Carvalho (F.C. Porto), Pepe (Real Madrid) e Bruno Alves (F.C. Porto);

Midfielders:

Petit (Benfica), Deco (Barcelona), Miguel Veloso (Sporting), João Moutinho (Sporting) e Raul Meireles (F.C. Porto);

Forwards:

Simão Sabrosa (Atl. Madrid), Nani (Manchester United), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Quaresma (F.C. Porto), Nuno Gomes (Benfica), Hélder Postiga (Panathinaikos) e Hugo Almeida (Werder Bremen).

Players like Maniche, Tiago, Caneira, Carlos Martins and Makukula were out of Euro.

The problem is if Deco have an injury there or if he is in low income Portugal will not have a number 10 to organize the game.. the only guy that can replace him is Moutinho but both not have the same caractheristics, maybe Martins could be in last 23.. but i am not seeing anyone to remove from list.. :rolleyes:

Re: EURO2008-Portuguese squad

but ferreira can play in both sides of defense and is attacking, thing that Caneira isn't and Ferreira have more understanding with other players of defense than Caneira..

Petit

Petit has done, as he said with humility, as usual, the 'worst season' of career, under constant physical problems and irregular exhibitions for Benfica, which was not unrelated. Whimsical, fearless in the way he plays, Petit maintains the rule before break than twist and, at 31 years, is preparing for the fourth participation in the final stages of European and World cups. Luiz Felipe Scolari highlights their courage and leadership, justifying the continued bet.

Re: EURO2008-Portuguese squad

Portugal will play in few moments against Georgia in first and last friendly game before EURO2008.

Portugal:Ricardo, Bosingwa, Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira; João Moutinho, Petit e Deco; Simão, Nuno Gomes e Cristiano Ronaldo.

GEÓRGIA: Loria; Lobjanidze, Asatiani, Khizanishvili, Navalovski; Kobiashvili e Menteshashvili; Tskitishvili, Kenia e Iashvili e Rati Aleksidze.

Portugal should win because Georgia is an easy team, more hard will be score the first goal.. probably this will be the team that will play in Euro but i would like to see Jorge Ribeiro as LB instead of Paulo Ferreira.. in this game i bet 3-0 for Portugal

Re: EURO2008-Portuguese squad

so what do you guys think the starting lineup for portugal will be against turkey???

i think most of the team that started against georgia will start...but doesn't quaresma warrant a place in the team??

& what about the LB slot?? is ferreira slotted to start??

Re: EURO2008-Portuguese squad

Paulo Ferreira was the only that wasn't replaced in that game.. so he might be titular. all the Euro.. to Quaresma be titular the only player that can be substituted in Ronaldo.. they are similar players that like to have the ball, make tricks.. but is 'bad' have the best player of the world in bench.. but he deserves.. in national squad he is very poor..

btw the game againt Georgia finished with out win by 2-0, goals of Moutinho and Simao.. i started to make a review of the game but i not finished yet.. a lot of work in university stopped that.. :|

Re: EURO2008-Portuguese squad

was 2-0.. i said my last post..

Hugo Almeida is a bit different of Nuno Gomes and Postiga, Almeida is a player that likes to play with another forward.. and Portugal plays in 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 so he not have chances.. he might join in last moments of the game when Portugal is loosing..

Nani is maybe the 4th choice of a winger in Portugal, behind Ronaldo, Simao and Quaresma, Nani is a player in style of Simao and had less historic to claim a titular place.

Miguel and Meira joined the game at 62minute.

Re: EURO2008-Portuguese squad

Nuno gomes.. i hate...

Helder positga a bit better..

Hugo Almeida is my fav out of those 3. First of all with 2 wingers crossing the ball Almeida would score them as he is a good header.. he has a rocket of a left shot and i think he is a better player for 4-3-2-1

Re: EURO2008-Portuguese squad

Nuno Gomes is better for the 2-1 than Almeida.. and heads better than him.. as Portugal plays he didn't have space to shot out of area.. is more a supporting football not at his style and he have problems when plays alone..

Hopefully Nuno gomes will do well but this season he scored 8 goals in 36 games so i hope his excuse for sucking this year is for the euro 08 so he can score at least 5 goals.

Call me crazy but i think he is not the man for the job. i would rather want a Striker then a foward because ronaldo can fit that slot easily

Strongly disagree but lets wait till the euro to see who is better

Re: EURO2008-Portuguese squad

why you disagree?

the ratio goals-games in Portuguese squad Nuno Gomes is the best forward of the three..

Almeida don't know plays alone.. is his weak point.. and Portugal plays 4-3-3 with 2 wingers.. is only a 'appeal' option
