Benfica win at Home

Benfica 3-1 Vitoria de Setubal

65, 647 people came out to support the reigning champions in their first home game at the Estadio da Luz, and they werent disapointed, Benfica were at their very best, and looked very comfortable in the end, winning 3-1. Although Vitoria had 51% of the possession, had more corners, and the same amount of shots on goal, Benfica made the most of their opportunities, with 9 shots on target, compared to Vitoria's 1. Without Cardozo, Benfica were expected to struggle up top, but Devision Bobo's rest was just what he needed. Mohamed Aboutraika got the first on 8 mins, the ball being squared to him, before he scores a screamer from the edge of the box. Next on the scoresheet was Roque Santa Cruz, who collected a long ball down the middle, and then drilled the ball home. And after a terrible fumble by the goalkeeper, Deivison Bobo got his first of the season after 40mins. Nsame scored in the 73rd minute for Vitoria de Setubal, but it turned out to be just a consolation goal. Benfica are expected to tinker with the side now, with important matches in the Champions Cup coming up, with Houston Dynamo and Everton.

Benfica stretch their winning run

Sporting Braga 1-3 Benfica

Benfica continued their great form with a good 3-1 victory over Braga. With the returning Katsouranis stabilising the midfield, it gave the wingers more confidence to roam forward, and this chance was truly taken with Ji Sung Park scoring twice (9 and 78), and his fellow winger Gabriel Cristian Rodriguez wrapping up the win in the 81st minute, after Braga had made it 1-1 on the 25min mark through Paolo Jorge. Man of the match went to Ji Sung Park who is really getting on form now. The result leaves Benfica top of the table, and one of only two teams unbeaten, although they are the only team with an 100% record, after Beleneses drew. They now face a match at home to Vitoria de Guimares, before playing Houston Dynamo in the SMFA Cup, before playing second placed side Beleneses on Saturday, so they will need to rotate the squad, to make sure they get good results all round

Benfica win on Penalties

Sporting Lisbon 4-4 Benfica

(Benfica win 3-0 on penalties)

Benfica's second string team carried on their good form with a thrilling performance against a very strong Sporting team. With their rivals for the cup, FC Porto losing 1-0 away to Beleneses, it leaves Benfica as the strongest team left in the competition. Cem Atan opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a brilliant low strike from 20 yards out. Sporting hit back with 2 of Joseba Llorente's 3 goals on the night, He scored in the 39th and 59th minute, before David Bellion equalised in the 60th minute with a toe-poke. Joseba Llorente completed his hattrich in the 79th minute, and was announced man of the match, but Cem Atan got his second goal of the match a minute later with a curling shot from outside the area. David Bellion thought he had won the game for Benfica when he made it 4-3 with a brilliant goal, but Ernesto Farias equalised in the 85th minute. Benfica however dominated the Penalty Shootout to win the match 3-0 on penalties. Benfica will now face Beleneses in the next round, whilst Boavista play Vitoria de Setubal in the other semi-final. First for the unbeaten Benfica is a home match against FC Porto in the league on Wednesday.

Benfica remain Unbeaten

Benfica 2-0 FC Porto

After an amazing game on monday, many thought it would be impossible to repeat the performance, how wrong they could be, with a brilliant Benfica beating second placed FC Porto in a very close encounter, with Benfica making the most of their chances. A goal apiece from Bobo and Al Qahtani were enough to beat a Porto, and now leaves Benfica top of the table 7points clear after just 10 games.

Marseille...

...in the LEAGUE

With an impressive 4-1 win away at Bordeaux on the opening day of the season, Marseille have went on a sensational run of results, losing only two matches in all competitions since. The second game of the season saw them beat Toulouse at home 2-1 thanks to goals from Fellaini and Niang. But neither those two, or the rest of the Marseille team could score on matchday three as they went down 1-0 against Monaco. But in the league again, Marseille got back to winning ways as goals again from Fellaini, and then Biglia secured a 2-1 win away at Lille. With three wins from four Marseille were well underway to compiling a title challenge this season.

New boys Angers SC felt the full force of Marseille on form in the fifth league match of the season as the second string won 4-1 - thanks to a goal each from Kalinic, Pitau, Krupoviesa and Streller. But they hit an incredible low in their next match losing 3-2 away at Rennes as Nuri and Bonnart couldn't see the reserve side win. However, Philp re-installed the first team in the following five league matches which takes us up to the present, having won all five of the encounters in Ligue 1.

The first of those wins came at home against Auxerre as strikes from Streller, Kalinic and Krupoviesa sealed a fine 3-2 win. Travelling away to struggling Grenoble was an easy task for Marseille next as they thumped them 4-0 with goals from Niang, Cisse, Cana and Fellaini. Keeping another clean sheet and continuing their goalscoring fun, Cana getting two and Rosicky, Cisse and Niang all helped Marseille beat Lorient 5-0. And in a match where they wouldn't have been given a chance last season, last Wednesday Marseille played last season's champions Lyon in the Stade de Gerland. Despite Rooney putting the home side ahead, Marseille rallied and fought for a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Rosicky, Niang and Cisse. And as things sit at the moment, with eight wins and two losses, Marseille are top of Ligue 1 with 24 points.

...in the domestic CUPs

With a bye in round one of both the Cup and Shield, there is only one match to talk about in that the 6-0 thrashing of Toulouse on their own patch in the Cup round 2. Looking for revenge since the defeat in the league, Toulouse did nothing of the sort as they were humbled by a seriously on-form Marseille team. Both strikers Niang and Cisse fired impressive doubles, and Valbuena and Biglia each grabbed a goal to seal progression to take on Bordeaux. In round 2 of the Shield Marseille face Lens.

...in the SMFA SHIELD

In a tough draw in round one, Boca Juniors were Marseille's opposition and travelling to Argentina first, Marseille returned to France with a respectable 1-1 draw. Having fought so hard last season to grab a place in the competition, Philp was delighted with his side's performance in the first leg. Cisse's away goal helped Marseille go through to round 2 as they won 3-0 in the return leg in France. Kalinic got two, and Ziani scored as Marseille's second string strode to victory over the two legs.

The second round came calling last night and in the first leg, Columbus Crew travelled to Marseille as Philp played his second string in this match. And they hit the Americans for eleven in leg one as Krupoviesa got four, Kalinic got three, Nuri got two, and both Ziani and Pitau scored as Marseille basically all but sealed their position in the draw for the third round. The second leg takes place in six days time from now in a meaningless match really for both teams as both know their fate.

...and their fantastic FRONT TWO

cisse-niang-original.jpg

Djibril Cisse and Mamadou Niang have been in sensational form scoring eight goals between them in seven league appearances each. It has been mainly down to them putting the ball in the back of the net, that Marseille are doing so well on all four fronts this season so far. Long may it continue said their manager Philp as he hopes that the two keep injury and suspension free for the rest of the season. Assists from Rosicky, Valbuena and the strikers themselves has helped the team's form.

Benfica Update

After Losing 3-1 to FC Porto in the quarter final of the Portuguese league, with an understrength team, Benfica have carried on their winning streak in the league to a mighty 20 game run. It means that since Adam Gutteridge joined as manager, he has won 90 points from 32 games, dropping only 6 points since September. After this loss, Benfica beat Sporting Braga 2-1 at home, goals from Guerron and Lee McCulloch, with a MOTM performance from McCulloch. They then played their 4th match in the Champions Cup, winning their first match of this campaign against Houston Dynamo, which boosted their chances of staying in the cup. They won 3-2 at home with a fantastic Hat-trick from Yasser Al Qahtani, who captained a weakened team to victory with a captains performance. A day later, the first team were recalled for the league match against Vitoria de Guimaraes. It was a 4-0 away demolishing of Guimaraes. Al Qahtani who kept his place after his hat-trick, made it 5 in 2 games with a neat brace, with other goals from Chretien who was moved to right midfield from right back, and Kleber. Benfica now play Beleneses in a semi final match tonight, expected to play a weakened team, although Al Qahtani is tipped to play again.

Benfica ease into the Portuguese Cup Final

Belenenses 1-8 Benfica

Benfica played a weakened team last night, as they kept their best team back for the League. However this did not make a difference, as Benfica thrashed a strong Belenenses team 8-1. It was supposed to be a close game, but was 5-0 at half time. Jofre Guerron opened the scoring in just 2mins, hitting it early to leave the keeper stranded. David Bellion doubled the lead in the 17th minute with a great run, before Makukula scored in the 18th minute with a dubious goal, which looked like offside. Makukula got his second in the 32nd minute thumping a low shot under the keeper. It was 5 in the 35th minute, with Milanetto scoring with an excellent header. It was 6-0 on the 51th minute mark, with Lee McCulloch scoring a great goal. A consolation goal was scored in the 52nd minute by Jorge Silas before Milanetto got his second in the 64th minute with a shot that took a wicked deflection. Lee McCulloch rounded the night off with a tap in, in the 67th minute. With a mighty 63% of the possession and 37 shots, with 23 on target, Benfica really dominated the match. They will now face Vitoria de Setubal in the final on the 29th December.

Re: Gold Championship 17 - Setup News

Since comfortably winning away at last season's league winners Lyon (3:1), Marseille have continued as before and deservedly so are top of Ligue 1 at present. Disappointingly in their next league match a home loss was sufferred against Sochaux (4:0) and so Marseille were knocked off top spot. But they bounced back in the French Shield as Wasilewski's goal helped defeat Lens (1:0). A Niang double sealed a sneaky away win against Valenciennes (2:1), and then five different scorers helped Marseille thump Lens (5:1) away from home next. Bordeaux (3:0) were then beaten easily in round3 of the French Cup as Rosicky, Cisse and Niang all scored. Back to the league again and Nantes (4:2) left the Velodrome with nothing as Marseille won thanks to goals from Streller twice, and one each from Grandin and Ziani.

Nancy 1-8 Marseille

2007112720362672_Quicklook-original.jpg

Part of the fact that Marseille sit top in France is due to Mamadou Niang's goalscoring exploits. In last night's match the striker scored a first-half hattrick and added another in the second period as to hit four in the one match. Nancy were stunned as despite Lazar's goal for them on 39 minutes, Djibril Cisse and Taye Taiwo got one each, and Tomas Rosicky scored two goals in the thumping of their French counterparts. On 36 points Marseille are one point ahead of second-placed Sochaux.

Middlesbrough New Manager

_Middlesbrough_logo.gif

Middlesbrough have appointed Aaron Dhandli as their new manager as they face relegation. They went searching for a manager that will keep them away from relegation. At the beginning of the season they where hoping for championship football. This dream is now over as they are out of both the shield and cup and are 17th.

article-0-02AE98BB000004B0-10_468x628.jpg

Stewart Downing hopefully will play a key role on keeping them away from relegation. Also Aaron Dhandli has expressed his interest in a new Stricker, and one bid has been already put in. Aaron hopes he can get this player as in Aaron's eyes he is one of the best in the epl.

Roma are dominating the league, 6 points clear and recently spanked 2nd place, playing Milan tomorrow, who are 13th expecting a win.

Big news tomorrow hopefully, Should be selling De Rossi for two great young guns.

Mexes can go for 2 x 90.

Doni can go for a 91 replacement and a 90 striker.

Pretty much everyone can go
