Houston Dynamo

Transfers

After the sudden credit crunch moving around the world Houston Dynamo chairman has had to spend over 60 million pounds just to keep the club out of administration this season.

This means that manager Snowy has had little funds to use, but he has stretched the budget well so far, although it did mean sacrificing some players along the way.

The main transfer so far has been Cameroon international Albert Meyong Ze. The 28 moved to Houston for no cash, but saw Stuart Holden and Eddie Robinson move away.

The other players brought in so far are:

Emanuel Perrone

Stavros Stathakis

Pantelis Rizogiannis

Bebars Natcho

Itumeleng Khune

Muhamad Gdir

Over all the club as spent just over 600k but has lost quite a few players. More players are expected to arrive at Houston in the coming days/weeks.

SMFA Sheild

After being runners up in both the league and the Cup Houston has booked it's place in the SMFA Shield this season, although there were dealt a hard first game against Cruz Azul. manager Snowy was linked to Cruz Azul earlier this week but has played down rumors of a move there and said that he was concentrating on the game against them.

I was going to be a tough game against the 2007 league champions but snowy played a strong looking side despite having influential Gilles Yapi Yapo injured. This is how it looked:

Pat Onstad

Jihai Sun-Silva Fabio Ferreira-Carlos Alberto Sanchez-Xiang Sun

Kieron Dyer-Ousmane Dabo-Christian Grindheim-Brian Mullan

Alan Smith ©-Albert Meyong Ze

Pat Onstad returned to the Houston goal after the departure of Mark Brown. There was a familiar back 4 with Jihai Sun deciding to remain on loan at the club for the third successive season. In the midfield Grindheim made his 25 appearance for the club while Mullan was preferred over Huckerby and up front captain Alan Smith was partnered by débutante Meyong Ze

The Match

464_1196904102.gif 443_1219057841.jpg

Houton Dynamo Vs Cruz Azul

The first half started at a very high tempo, and there was and early booking for Grindheim for bad language. There where good chances for either side, with the best chances falling to débutante Meyong Ze who missed to chances by first hitting the post and then blasting the ball off the crossbar so dispite all the goalmouth action the score remained 0 - 0 at the break.

It was quite at the start of the second half with the only action being a yellow card for Dabo after lunging in. This was until Housten had a break and a cross from Dyer met the head of captain Alan Smith who put the home team infront. Although the celebrations hwere short lived as a minute later after Quincy Owusu-Aeyie's shot was deflected off Fabio Ferreira on went past helpless keeper Onstad to level the game. There where two later chances for both sides, first Onstad made a good save from Owusu-Aeyie's shot and then on the 89 th minute Dyer hit it over from the edge of the D, meaning the final score was 1 - 1 with Cruz Azul having the crutial away goal.

The second leg will be on the 10th of April and is sure to be a nerve racking affair for both teams.

In other news Ousmane Dabo, Brain Mullan and Dwayne De Rosario are all on the transfer list for cash only values as Houston try and remain out of the red.

Houston Dynamo

Transfers

Since Tuesday there has been more transfer activity at Houston. Turkish midfielder Faruk Bayar arrived for £550k and also saw Brian Mullan leave Houston. But the big transfer was the signing of Zambain wonderkid Rodgers Kola.

rodgerskola.jpg

The 19 year old was part of the Zambian under 20 team who competed in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He scored 2 goals at that level. He now plays for the Zambian national team. Kola cost £375k from South African side Golden Arrows but manager Snowy is hopeing in a few season sthat Kola will be ready for the first team.

Match report

It was a great night of football for Houston last nigh and one to remember. Two new signings made their league debut. Albert Meyong Ze and Emanuel Perrone partnered each other up front as they both started in the league for the first time.

With a number of players rested afer the SMFA Shield match just two days before the starting 11 looked like this:

Onstad

Kuznetsov - Davenport - Fabio Ferreira - Barrett

Dyer - Clark - Grindheim - Huckerby

Perrone - Meyong Ze

648_1227016450.jpgVS464_1196904102.gif

Chivas USA Houston Dynamo

Chivas fielded a strong side against a changed Houston team but it was Chivas keeper Mohammadi who had to make the first save from a good strike from Meyong Ze. Onstad then made a save before the deadlock was broken in the 26th minute when an unstoppable 20 yard strike from Meyong Ze went crashing into the back of the net to give Houston a one goal lead. two minutes later Meyong Ze could have made it it but missed from 6 yards out. After that it went quite and so at half time the score was 1 - 0 in a favor of the visitors.

It remained quite in the second half with only a shot from Huckerby and a brilliant reaction save from Onstad briging fans off their seats. There were also four yellow cards brandished out. Zizilevs and Galindo getting them for Chivas while Dyer and Clark getting them for Houston. Houston defended well in the second half and so making the final score 1 - 0 to Houston and taking them to top of the league.

In other news Ousmane Dabo and Dwayne De Rosario are still on the transfer list for cash only values as Houston try and remain out of the red.

Stamford Bridge - 42,180

F.MALOUDA 11, 43

S.SEMAK, 26

N.ANELKA, 55

Last night Chelsea welcomed rivals Everton to Stamford Bridge, Everton managed by Andrew Curvis, Mattis knew this would be a hard match for Chelsea. If Mattis's Chelsea won they would keep there 100% winning record in the league, Mattis fielded his second team after his first team's success in the Charity Shield on Thursday. Chelsea dominated 58% of the possession, with seven out of ten shots on target.

The game started brightly and Everton had the best chance to take the lead in the eighth minute through Luis Antonio Valencia, the Ecuadorian International chipping Petr Cech, but his chip was cleared off the line by Chelsea centre back Juan. Chelsea broke the deadlock in the eleventh minute through French International Florent Malouda, the Chelsea midfielder bundling the ball over the line after a scramble in the Everton box. Chelsea could of been 2-0 up three minutes later, Sergey Semak's headed effort shaving the Everton post. Chelsea went 2-0 up in the 26th minute, Semak making up for his earlier miss, driving in a low drive past Tim Howard from 20 yards to give Chelsea a two goal advantage. The game went from bad to worst for Everton in the 33rd minute, as they were reduced to ten men, a disgraceful tackle by Tim Cahill earning the Australian a straight red card. Everton could of been one foot back into the game in the 40th minute, but Nigerian hitman Aiyegbeni Yakubu failed to follow up the rebound after a parried shot by Chelsea keeper Cech. Chelsea went 3-0 up two minutes before the break, Malouda bagging his second of the night beating two defenders, and slotting home a great solo effort. The score was 3-0 to Chelsea at half time.

(Goals from Malouda (2), and Semak gave Chelsea a 3-0 lead at the break)

The second half began, and Everton came out on fire, with two chances both from Luis Valencia, the best of them hitting the outside of the woodwork. Everton were punished for missing there second real chance of the game as Chelsea went 4-0 up through Nicolas Anelka making no mistake from 15 yards. Malouda should of sealed his hat-trick three minutes past the hour mark, but his chance went begging. Everton had a chance to pull a goal back through Leon Osman late on, but his headed chance hit the top of the bar. The match finished 4-0 to Chelsea, and they remained unbeaten in the league this season.

Five minutes into the second half Bakary Sagna chipped the keeper with inch perfect accuracy to equalise. 10 minutes later a sublime volley by Tomás Rosicky put them ahead. After the midweek defeat to main rivals Tottenham Hotspur who Chelsea beat in the Charity Shield Final, Chelsea traveled to France to face Conor Bowen's Lyon side in the SMFA Champions Cup. If Chelsea won tonight, they would remain unbeaten in the group stages. Chelsea dominated 59% possession, with only three shots on target.

The first chance of the match came to Chelsea, Ivorian International Didier Drogba with his head in his hands, after missing a open goal. Chelsea could of opened the scoring again in the 23rd minute, but Russian International Sergey Semak blazed the ball over the bar in front of a open goal. Chelsea finally took the lead in the 43rd minute, Sandro Alex Silva picking up the short corner, and curling the ball around the unsighted keeper. Chelsea were 1-0 up at the break.

Chelsea could of been 2-0 up from the kick off, but a Florent Malouda effort went inches wide of the Lyon goal. Chelsea doubled there lead in the 55th minute, Didier Drogba making up for his earlier chance bundling the ball over the line after a goal mouth scramble. Sidney Govou could of pulled a goal back for Lyon in the 71st minute, clean through, the Frenchman's shot hitting the outside of the post. Lyon could of scored late on, a Miralem Pjanic effort cleared off the line by the Chelsea defence. The match finished 2-0 to Chelsea, Chelsea will face Arsenal in the league tomorrow.

Jimmy Briand(34)

Ben Olsen(58)

epj286.jpg

2 first half goals by Jimmy Briand was enough as Marseille scraped past DC United.Marseille were the better side in the first half controlling the midfield but did not create any clear cut chances. It took a moment of brilliance by Briand to put them in front as weaved past the entire defense before finishing nicely to the delight of the 5000 Marseille fans who had travelled to Washington. And the Marseille fans got louder when a minute later Briand doubled Marseille's advantage with a fearsome strike that went in off the post. And that's how the score stayed at half time. DC United applied the early pressure and were unlucky not to have reduced the margin when the ball hit the post. But United were not to be denied as Ben olsen headed in a an excellent cross to make the score 2-1. Jimmy Briand then had a glorious chance to get his hattrick and put the game beyond United but he misses an open goal. By now Marseille were hanging for dear life and it got worse for them when Nuri got sent off for a horror tackle on olsen. But DC United could not make their man advantage count and game finished 2-1 in favour of Marseille. The win takes marseille to 6 points from 2 games that leaves them on top of their champions league group.

Djibril Cisse(16)

Lorik Cana(59)

23t1gys.jpg2ew311v.jpg

A weakened Marseille side was still good enough for Nancy as they beat them 2-0 at home. Marseille lacked the fluidity you normally associate with them due the many changes that were made by the boss. But the nerves that were evident as the match began were soothed down 15 minutes into the match as Cisse put them in front with an excellent header. Marseille were lucky not to have conceded as Nancy missed 2 easy chances to equalise. And 15 minutes into the second half Lorik Cana sealed the match with a simple goal. The win leaves Marseille as one of 3 teams tied on 11 points with Lille leading the pack virtue of their better goal difference with Marseille second.
