English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread

Promotion/Relegation

As of turn 31/32

Division 3

Division 3 Promotion

Watford

Watford dispite the odd hiccup now and then have maintained their stranglehold on the division 3 title and with just 8 games to go have a 10pt lead certainly not an impossibility that they could miss out on automatic promotion but that is a slim chance they look set to be crowned division 3 champions

Carlisle

Carlisle have been pegged back by 3rd placed Doncaster after opening up a small lead on the Yorkshire side earlier in the season and both sides have been matching each other so far but you have to favour Doncaster for 2nd place purely on their better scoring record

Doncaster

Like Carlisle they have been playing well all season long just finding Watford to be in a different class to them Doncaster have managed to peg back Carlisle who opened up a small lead earlier in the season this thanks to Carlisle throwing away point with 10 draws this season and with Doncaster’s prolific scorers could prove enough for Doncaster to claim the second automatic promotion place

Huddersfield

Currently best of the rest with a 7pt gap to Doncaster in 3rd and a 17pt gap to leaders Watford but still a good effort with this youth orientated squad who have made steady progress since mid season moving up from 7th clearly their immense squad depth paying off in the latter stages of the season and should keep them in the playoffs

Leyton Orient

Orient have continued their patchy form through the season but it has been enough for this youthful team to sneak into the playoffs they have hit another bad patch of form though with a defeat to fellow promotion chasing Nottingham Forest their playoff place is looking precarious

Brighton

Brighton are holding onto the final playoff place by the skin of their teeth after drawing their 13th game of the season they do at least look more consistent that some of the promotion challengers and they do have the second best record in the league with just 6 defeats so should really be challenging Watford for the title they need some luck

Nottingham Forest

Have continued with their all out attack approach netting 60 goals this season but at a price with some shoddy defending conceding 50 goals the joint 8th worst in the league which could prove costly at the end of the season

Tranmere

Recovered after a bad run of form in mid season but like Brighton have lost valuable points drawing 7 of their last 13 games that said their 8-0 annihilation of Bristol City must have been a huge confidence boost which could well push them on in the closing stages of the season and cant be ruled out from sneaking into the playoffs

Barnsley

Have been the big improvers as the season has progressed with a good run of form in mid season a recent dip in form was short lived and they are currently on a run of 5 games undefeated which has seen them maintain contact with the battle for the playoffs and with a quality squad of South American players and teams higher up faltering should be good enough for a playoff place

Division 3 Relegation

Bristol City

Recent heavy defeats 4-0 against Carlisle 8-0 against Tranmere and 6-0 against Leyton Orient just prove how awful their season has gone after a good start current losing run stretches to 15 games and with an awol manager is starting to look a certainty of relegation

Gillingham

Another team that have an awol manager which has not really had the same effect that it has on Bristol City with Gillingham’s form all season being patchy they can at times play some good football 4-2 win a couple of weeks ago over Huddersfield being one of these times however since then they have only scored 1 goal in 3 matches which is nowhere near good enough key match against Swindon next week is likely to decide their fate

Swindon

Swindon have had another dismal season after last seasons relegation from division 2 they have at least shown some signs of a will to survive after pulling themselves from the foot of Division 3 to being just 4pts from safety and they are performing better than a couple of team placed higher

Luton

Recent run of 2 wins has helped Luton maintain their gap over the bottom 3 team but a recent run of 2 defeats and an improvement in form for Swindon means they are far from safe

Bristol Rovers

Not a good season for the Bristol teams with City rooted to the bottom of the division and Rovers on a run of 3 games without a win and just 5pts above the drop zone they have though pulled out of the drop zone after a good run during mid season and with key games against Luton and Swindon to come they do look to be in a good position to save themselves

Ipswich

Last seasons playoff finalists have had a torrid season so far and have been stuck in the bottom half of division 3 all season which is surprise when you look at the quality of their squad matches against Bristol Rovers,Bristol City and Gillingham still to come with Ipswich already having beaten Gillingham 5-0 and Bristol City 3-2 this season and holding a 8pt lead over Swindon in 18th they should be safe

Crewe suffer double defensive blow

Crewe today suffered a double blow following last night's return to the top of the league.

Crewe manager Sean awoke this morning to find that his attempt to sign James Tomkins was gazzumped at the last minute by an evil fellow manager:D:D.

Moments later he then received a call Liverpool manager Tom to let inform him that defender Marcelo Bordon was going to have to be recalled from his loan spell.

Crewe also announced that Fernandes Derlei, 88CF, was put on the transfer market for 5million.

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread

Promotion/

As of turn 32

Division 4

Division 4 Promotion

Crewe Alexandra

Crewe continued their push for promotion with a 4-1 demolition of main rivals Nott’s County to pull back level at the top of the table they should really be clear at the top but they have been prone to the odd slip up this season that was proved last week with their 3-2 defeat against Walsall even so they are well clear of 3rd placed Shorpe and automatic promotion looks a certainty

Notts County

County have recently lost long serving manager Lee Young after 22 games in charge at the club and helping them to a very strong position in the league new manager Roy Keane faces a difficult challenge to see off Crewe for the division 4 title especially after their recent 4-1 defeat by them they do have the advantage of playing several weaker sides in the run up to the end of the season though with matches against Boston,Grimsby,Southend and Northampton all to come they do look in a strong position to give Crewe a good run for their money

Shorpe

After a poor start to the season Shorpe have started to rocket up the table thanks to a run of 13 wins from their last 18 games and have passed early pace pushers Brentford for 3rd place and they could yet have a say in who wins the title with a game against Notts County to come will be interesting to see them in the playoffs

Brentford

Brentford were up with Crewe and Notts County for the best part of the first half of the season but in recent weeks their form has taken a dip and they are in danger of falling away from the top three now with just 1 win from their last 6 this thanks mainly to their current injury crisis with 4 key players out they should keep their playoff place though and if they do and they have a full strength squad for the playoff they could be very difficult to beat

Blackpool

Blackpool have been fairly consistent all season long without ever really looking like a possible title contender recent run of 11 games with just 1 defeat has helped them into the playoffs but in this time they have thrown away 10pts with the team drawing 5 and so far they have failed to beat the other playoff teams in Oxford,Shorpe or Brentford so far this season with games against Oxford and Shorpe to come

Oxford

Have been playing well since their manager took over back in early June with a run of 9 games undefeated form their last 10 recently they have looked a fatigued with the team throwing away 8pts with their last 4 games all being draws luckily the next two teams in the league have failed to capitalize on that but they will need a couple of wins soon to cement their playoff place especially with Rochdale and Chesterfield finding their form again

Peterborough

Were involved in a great battle earlier in the season with Crewe,Notts County and Brentford but a slip in form back in may which saw them lose touch with the title challenge another slip in form in recent weeks with four straight defeats means they have slipped out of the playoffs and in danger of losing touch they are however under new management which could prove a boost for them which is needed with key matches against Wycombe,Brentford and Crewe all upcoming in the next couple of weeks

Wycombe

Suffered a mid season breakdown seeing them drop out of contention with the leaders and drop out of the playoffs recent turn around in form though has given them a chance of a playoff place however a heavy 4-1 defeat by Notts County recently does seem to have knocked their impetus and are in danger of dropping off the fight for the final playoff place especially with Rochdale and Chesterfield breathing down their neck

Rochdale

Rochdale have improved as the season has progressed and gone from mid table obscurity to a possible challenge for the final playoff place thanks to a run 13 games and just 3 defeats key games against Wycombe and Oxford in the next 2 weeks are likely to decide they chance of making it into 6th place

Chesterfield

Chesterfield have managed to latch on the back of the battle for the final playoff place thanks to an impressive 5-1 defeat of Northampton then a somewhat surprising 2-0 win over Brentford both those wins without the aid of the manager which is a concern form of late has been patchy and there has to be concerns over fatigue taking its toll in the coming weeks

Promotion Odds

Crewe------------------1/100

Notts County-----------1/100

Shorpe-------------2/11

Brentford---------------2/7

Blackpool---------------5/1

Oxford------------------6/1

Wycombe---------------8/1

Peterborough------------12/1

Rochdale----------------20/1

Chesterfield-------------40/1

Liverpool Escape Relegation Zone!

Xavi_593027.jpg

MoM performance.

LIVERPOOL 2 V 0 WIGAN

Last night Liverpool recorded their first win under their new experienced boss Tom Field.

It was a spectacular performance from a team struggling. In fact the team looked as if they were fighting for promotion rather then relegation as they came out with all guns blazing and took the lead in the first minute when Urby EMANUELSON headed the ball into the back of the net after some great play from Xavi in the centre of the midfield.

From this point onwards it was easy for Liverpool who looked in control, of the game from start to finish showing some signs of competing in the top 6 next season along with the likes of Newcastle, Man Utd and Darlington.

Then the 24th minute Liverpool increased their lead with a goal from Zlatan IBRAHIMOVIC who smashed the ball with venom into the roof of the net.

This showed the teams superior on the pitch and shows why the new boss, Tom Field is thought to be highly regarded as a football manager and looks a challenge of rising a lowly team to be great just like he did with high flying Burnley.

Transfers:

It looks as if Liverpool will secure a deal for Aleksandr ANYUKOV tomorrow when a deal was agreed between Liverpool and Middlesbrough of £2.0M + Arne FRIEDRICH + Marcelo BORDON for the 91 rated RB/RM.

This is thought to be his last signing of the season as he looks to gel the squad together and push them forward towards the new season.

MILLWALL WHO ?????

Crystal-Palace-Badge_small_633643413613593750.jpgV millwall%20badge.gif

Having recently drawn away from home against Stoke City, Crystal Palace manager Paul Holt has re-opened the war of words with Dave Izod by claiming that the people of South London don't care about Millwall FC. Holt declared "The local people here only care about 2 teams, Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic, even when i got here the chairman and the fans told me that the most important thing is to beat Charlton during the season. When i asked about Millwall, their response was "who". Infact, if the LMA resident comedian wasn't The Lions manager then we would have forgotten that they were in Div 2 at all." Holt, who is in his 3rd season at Selhurst Park, is clearly loving the rivalry since Dave was appointed Millwall manager a couple of season ago. Paul has a reputation of "bigging up himself" without any end product, and has even been called "Cocky" by well respected manager Chris Haxo of Stoke, but Holt is not one for caring about what other people think about him. Holt said "They can say what they want about me, but its results on the pitch that matter, and both Izod and Haxo have yet to beat me at their home grounds." In recent news Palace were named 2nd favourites for the drop but Holt laughed this off saying "I dont know who made Crystal Palace 2nd favourites to go down, but i do know that they know nothing about football at all. I can guarantee that The Eagles will not go down, and i can guarantee that Palace will not lose against Millwall on Wednesday, infact I believe that we will win it but i dont want to be to arrogent about it". Millwall travel to Sehurst Park on Wednesday, with a kick off at 8pm.

This will be my last post for a week, the camp site which Im moving to has no web access. Heres the latest PNE news summarised:

Hungarian youngster joins PNE

Ex-Liverpool striker Krisztian Nemeth rejected the chance to rejoin his former employers by joining Division 2 side Preston North End. The 20 year old signed a 5 year deal worth £22,000 per week, and hooks up with former club-mates David N'Gog, Glen Johnson, Peter Crouch and Fabio Aurelio. He is set to turn out for the reserves for the next few weeks, but may be introduced to the first team from next season.

Tompkins joins Lilywhites

Preston North End have beaten Liverpool to the signing of another player, James Tompkins. The England U21 defender chose the Division 2 side as he had more chance of first team football.

After some rowdy Liverpool fans saying that Tom Field is sure to waste his money on low rated players such as Tompkins and Nemeth it has emerged that Liverpool had made no interest in either player and never made a bid for the following players.

Division 2

Match 32

Crystal Palace v Millwall Preview

With the South London streets awash with anticipation, fans and pundits alike eagerly await the second installment of season 8's Palace v Millwall clash on Wednesday night. Very few matches capture the footballing worlds imagination quite like the fixture but behind the local bragging rights the game holds huge implecations for both clubs. In a contrasting season each team comes to the game desperately seeking the win.

More than a local Derby

Relegated from the top tier, home side Palace have had a dreadful season so far. Tipped as one of the favorites for the title, the Eagles have struggled to match the hurly burly of division 2 football, routinely failing against deceptively talented teams eager to claim what is still a highly valued skalp. Despite a solid enough first half of the season which saw them there or there abouts the play-off spots, Eagles fans have endured a dire second half of the campaign. A poor run of just 17 points out of a possible 54 , sees Palace in 16th spot just 4 points clear of the drop zone. Palace boss Paul Holt will no-doubt be looking beyond the game, to a run in which sees the Eagles facing promotion challenging Boro and Charlton with also a tough looking home visit from league leaders Manchester city. A victory on Wednesday could be key in adding some much needed momentum to the team as they plot an unlikely path back to mid table safety.

Along with Burnley, newly promoted Millwall have turned out to be the surprise package of the season. Amongst the favorites for the drop, the Lions entered the league with a small workman like squad reeling from the loss of the Talismanic Luis Nani. After a indifferent start, the Lions rapidly gained a reputation for resilience, and with the inspired loan signing Benjani finally bringing the best out of Boselli have more than held their own in the division, and incredibly as yet have not lost on successive league match days. At times barely holding on to the shirt tails of the bigger teams, the Lions find themselves 3rd in the division and considered by a growing audience as likely to figure in the finale to the tightest division 2 promotion race in years. The ever realistic Lions boss, Dave Izod has remained tight lipped on any talk of a title challenge, but instead, after securing league status has quietly kept one eye on a play-off finish. With tough games against Fulham and Burnley on the horizon the south London born manager will no doubt consider three points as vital to maintaining a 4 point cushion over 7th placed Plymouth Argyle.

Mutual Loathing

Set against the back drop of league rivalries the fixture holds an enduring interest to the wider footballing world, that of the ongoing feud between rival managers Paul Holt and Dave Izod. Aside from the well known personal mutual loathing between the two men the spat erupted in the public glare at the start of last season. When in a transfer choice between Middlesboro and Millwall, Algerian winger Nsimba Ze Kalinga plumped for the Lions listing the reason that

'' Middlesboro is full of stray dogs and women with mustaches''

the offensive ( but true) remark, brought immediate condemnation from Middlesboro supporting Paul Holt, which in turn provoked Izod into an outspoken defence of the player. What perhaps should have been left there, instead has degenerated into an ill tempered running battle between the two.Shortly after the mustache incident, a public approach for Luis Nani from the Palace camp enraged the notoriously suspicious Izod, who took the speculative bid as unprofessional and against league protocols. Amongst a barrage of insults both managers have routinely spent the subsequent months basking in the others misfortune. Oblivious to out side opinion Paul Holts over confidence, continues to provoke an image of arrogance typified by his outspoken attack on well respected manager Andrew Smith. The 28 year old delights in highlighting the perceived difference in social standing between the two clubs with the Lions naturally cast as the paupers.

For his part, 40 year old father of two Izod routinely displays a child like immaturity towards Holt. Instinctively touchy about his austere South London upbringing, Izod has developed into a Machiavellian type hell bent on mischief making comments and wild accusations about Holt, questioning everything from his transfer dealings to his personal state of mind.

Team Selection

Millwall suffered somewhat of a hammer blow this morning with the news that Center back Sebastien Bassong is out for the rest of the season with a torn calf muscle. Having recovered from a recent injury crises the Lions happily welcomed back Mwaruwari Benjani and with the recovery of Ricardo Gardener had high hopes of the squad remaining in good shape until the end of the season. The loss of Bassong gives Izod a particular headache in as much as the Lions were likely to switch from 5-3-2 ,to a traditional 4-4-2 formation in a more offensive approach to the remaining games. Much depends on the fitness and suitability of Gardener for the left back role as youngster Joe Mattock lacks anywhere near the experience for the task.

Palace are not without injury woes themselves, losing top scorer Simon Vukcevic and Andre Pierre Gignac for up to three games, with a head and ankle injury respectively. Tactically speaking Palace manager Holt continues to be a hard one to predict, switching on a game by game basis as the opponent dictates.Palace seem more comfortable with a midfield stifling 3-5-2, but of late have adopted an attacking 4-3-3 in attempt to capitalize on the attacking prowess of wide men Karadeniz and Di Maria.

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread

Huddersfield Town manager Dermot O' Brien had this to say to the media when questioned about how he think his team will fare in the last few games of the season. "I am in with a good shout still of an automatic place in the league. I will be constantly reshuffling the pack to work out what is best for that game. I am always willing to give players a chance to make the step up." Asked about who could make the step up, O' Brien had this to say, "Well I have a few good players out on loan, and some have been more than impressive, one in particular seems to be doing a superb job at his team. That is Eduardo Salvio, who I might have to reconsider his loan deal. Asked about his future transfers, " Well funny you should say that, I have placed a bid for quality player in the number one department I am lacking the required depth. That is not to say that I cannot deliver the results without him, but lets just give a nod and a wink, he will do the business, if we can sign him. But there is strong interest from another team, so, I will wait and see what our chairman can do". Asked about any players he would be letting go of, "I don't know, I have a good squad, I don't really want to sell anybody right now, but I would be willing to hear loan offers for Danny Murphy, Clint Dempsey and Marcel Schaffer from my first team. And that was that, it seems the Huddersfield Town manager is keeping the cards close to his chest for the next few weeks, but he is willing to give another interview before the season ends.

Bellamy joins promotion battle

Craig bellamy last night joined division 4 leaders Crewe on a short term loan deal.

The Welsh forward will go straight into the squad for Wednesday nights game against Blackpool.

This is the 3rd time this season a Middlesborough player has joined Crewe on loan, and Crewe's fans and staff appreciate all the help that they have receivd, not just from Middlesborough, but from Preston, Liverpool, Man Utd and every other team that has loaned them a player at one point or another this season.

That This Is All Hull City Can Offer As A Club, We Are Alot Better Then This And I Think We Still Can Make The Play-Offs But We Have Got To Pick Ourselves Up And Do Alot Better Then What We Currently Are.. We Are A Very Small Squad And If We Dont Finish In A Satisfactory Position, I May Leave In Order To Find A Better Club, This May Anger Some Supporters But I Believe Hull City Should Have Been In The Top 8 This Season.. Thats My Opinion.. Going On To The Subject Of Transfers, I Have Made A Loan Bid For Helton And Dutch International Pieters, I Have Talked With Both Players Individually And They Are Excited By The Possibility Of Playing Week In Week Out For Hull City, Pieters Should Be Arriving Within The Next Couple Of Days, However I Have Got To Convince Helton To Snub Shorpe For Us And I Do Not Believe That Will Be Easy By Any Means.. Although Talks With The Players Club And Helton Seemed To Go Good, Shorpe Will Be A Tempting Club For Any Player."
