Eduardo scored the opener

Christian Poulsen scored his first goal of the season to rescue a well-deserved point for Blues and deal a blow to Charlton Athletic's promotion hope. Eduardo da Silva maintained his hot scoring streak by netting for the third time in two games to put Charlton ahead in just two minutes of first half. But Poulsen levelled in the 53rd minute to cancel out Addicks from taking all the points.

It was no more than Birmingham deserved after a committed and tenacious performance although they were under the cosh for the majority of the second half. They restricted the visitors to only a handful of clear-cut chances with Vladimir Gabulov took the centre stage with some eye-catching saves. Charlton looked only a shadow of the side which had taken six points from two meetings with Fulham and Aston Villa in recent weeks. And it will be of concern to manager Dean Bryant that they have in contrast dropped points against the likes of Derby County and now their struggling opponents.

Eduardo made no mistake from inside the box for the opening goal within the first 180 seconds. A defence-splitting pass from Samir Nasri found Eduardo with only Vladimir Gabulov to beat. The former Manchester City forward sent a first time low shot into the bottom corner of the net. Gabriel Agbonlahor missed a golden chance to put the host back on level terms two minutes later. A long clearance from Joseph Yobo, making his 117 league appearances for the Blues, bounced straight through to the England player who took control at the edge of the box. But the 23-year-old curled his shot inches wide. Blues were looking in desperate for the equaliser with defender Mauro Cetto start to push forward in the attack. Diego Milito later failed to reach for the ball from Sebastián Eguren's dangerous cross. Radamel Falcao saw plenty of the ball and had one shot blocked by Poulsen when well positioned. Sami Khedira started to boss the midfield, making some well-timed tackle and direct passes. Eduardo was only just off target with a glancing header from Marco Marchionni's angled ball. Then Nasri almost gave the away fans something to cheer about when his low drive whistle past the near post. Nasri later found himself another great chance but failed to capitalise it. Eduardo had the best chance to double his tally but somehow blast over in front of an open goal. Charlton were predictably looking to hold on with the lead before the break when Khedira got the first booking for time wasting.

Charlton began the second half on the offensive and a cross from the byline from Marchionni went out of play. Birmingham, however, got the better in possession with Daniele Franceschini getting more control in the midfield with plenty of the ball and spaces. Blues found themselves back on level terms in the 53rd minute. Christian Poulsen picked up a short corner from Christian Gentner before smashing it past the unsighted Marco Amelia. Alessandro Gamberini came to Addicks' rescue when he cleared a goal-bound effort from Agbonlahor. Falcao, who last goal came in on early October, missed another great opportunity for the visitors. Falcao found himself on goal with only the keeper to beat but sent a weak low shot into the outside of the post. Dean Bryant's men continued their offensive play but lack the final touch. Marchionni became the second player to miss an open goal as he blast his shot over. Dean introduce Sebastian Giovinco, Armand Traore and Honorato Nilmar in the 75th minute to replace Wout Brama, Samir Nasri and Falcao respectively. But it went wrong for some reason. Giovinco saw himself limped off with a slight injury at the end of the match. Giovinco went into a bad challenge with Eguren but still managed to play until the final whistle.

Big Brad And Boy Baldock Help Dale Bounce Back

MOM Brad Friedel Proves His Worth...

friedel_st.jpg

Sutcliffe - "I was right to turn down 9m"

Rochdale 1-0 Bristol City

Rochdale grinded out an important win against a very good Bristol City side, who had won 3 out of their last 5 coming into the game. The Rochdale Boss was still under pressure following poor results Internationaly, and Dale suffering a minor blip. Both George Boyd and Rickie Lambert have cause Sutcliffe major headaches with their lengthy injury woes. However, Sergio Torres had been performing well coming into the game, as was England U20 International, Sam Baldock.

It was that boy Baldock who gave his team the lead inside just 4 minutes. Cleverly hitting the ball early, he left the Bristol goalkeeper stranded, giving Dale the perfect start. That goal certainly proved to be a spark, as it was end to end stuff come the rest of the first half. Both teams were creating chances. Fabian Delph and the tough tackling Andy Wilkinson can be credited with important blocks that kept their team in the game.

0,,10420~7256925,00.jpg

Baldock, now with 3 in 5 in the absence of Lambert, proving he's worth his England U21 call up

2nd half Rochdale gave a really spirited performance. Lacking quality in the final 3rd, with arguably their 2 most important players out, Sutcliffe organised his defence appropriately, sitting Delph deeper and restricting James McCarthy's forward runs, meaning he was coming deeper to pick up the ball, leaving Bristol unable to force the issue narrow. Though Dale missed chances, not least Kitson's effort being cleared off the line, it was Bristol who were on top for most of the 2nd half. Without having to pull off any outstanding saves, Brad Friedel was phenomenal in his cross collection and leadership skills from the very back. He commanded the area so much that his defenders almost needn't have been there. A performance which proved his worth and suggested Sutcliffe was right to turn down 9m from him last week. It finished 1-0 but the result was necessary. Rochdale push up to 2nd, 2 points behind Shorpe, who's manager claims they now boast an 89 starting XI average. Sutcliffe can only claim 82, which perhaps proves that the job he is doing at Dale, is quite phenomenal....

Bassong to stay at the Den

bassong.jpg

Bassong

Millwall boss Dave Izod this morning issued a hands off Sebastian Bassong warning to Arsenal boss Aran Dhandli. The new man in North London is thought to be a firm fan of the 23 Year old Cameroonian international and is rumoured to be circling the highly rated defender before launching a transfer bid. Izod is unequivocal in his determination to hang on to the centre back and has so far resisted interest from Sheffield United, Cardiff and indeed turned down a huge ( but ultimately bogus) 10 million pounds bid from hated local rivals Crystal Palace.

Seb goes nowhere, I have spoken to both the player and our Chairman John Berylson and I can give our fans my firm assurance of that. After 7 seasons here Seb continues to grow in stature as a player and is pivotal to next years determined push for promotion. He has progressed to role of club captain and I am delighted to say that he has recently committed himself to the club by signing a new 5 year deal with us. With the clubs finances on a first class footing, I will not be bullied by any so called big club into selling him or any of our other young stars.

Forty year old Izod was speaking as the Lions returned to London with a disappointing single point after last nights dour 0-0 draw with struggling Derby County. In a game which the South Londoners largely dominated, a marked failure by front men Loic and Grafitte to finish numerous chances could have cost the Lions dear if not for a series of world class saves by new signing and debutant keeper Craig Gordon. The draw sees the Lions drop back down to 10th place over taken by West London rivals Fulham, following their 7-0 public dismemberment of a doomed looking Sheffield Wednesday. Next up for the lions is a vital midweek trip to 6th placed Middlesbrough before facing Cardiff and Huddersfield in a series of 3 games which may well determine the course of the lions season.

Riquelme to Cardiff

juan_roman_riquelme_the_associated_.jpg

Riquelme in action for Boca Juniors

Juan Roman Riquelme will move to Cardiff, subject to a medical, in an exchange deal with Marko Vucinic. The Argentine who has played 232 times for Arsenal and scored 51 goals was unwanted by new manager Aaron Dhandli. The new Arsenal manager was on the lookout for a new striker and identified Vucinic as his main target. Thus making the swap deal a possibilty.Cardiff were in the market to replace Gilberto Silva who will complete a move to Greece later in the day.

Vucinic on the other hand has been unhappy with being forced onto the wing and thus was open to a move. The deal should be completed before Cardiff's next league match against Chartlon. Neither player can play in the Shield quarter finals as they are both cup tied.

The deal is seen as a mutual respect between the two clubs who tee off in a friendly match tonight with both teams expected to field a host of fringe players.

News From the Emirates

arsenal-logo.png

News coming from the Emirates suggests that former Roma forward, who has been linked with United, is set to join Arsenal. The deal sees Vucinic joining arsenalo will Riqulme leaving to join Cardiff. The deal was pushed for because Arsenal currently have quite a lot of central attacking players, and little strikers. Another deal coming from arsenal is that Lampard will leave for Owen and Diarra. These deals add depth and strenght to a weaken Arsenal side.

With the Youth Cup back on track, Charlton manager Dean Bryant is expected to field in youth players for the friendly match as part of their preparation for the competition. Some regular names such as Wayne Hennessey, Jan Vertonghen, Armand Traore, Sami Khedira, Sebastian Giovinco and Javier Pastore are expected to be given the starting role. Charlton, however, will be without Mathias Cardaccio, Tabare Viudez and Mehmet Ekici who have left the club in the recent weeks. It is understood that the club have made an appeal to the Youth Cup organiser, YCO, over the replacement of players. Charlton have already bought in the replacement in Marvin Zeegelaar, Bakary Sare and Gianluca Nijholt respectively. Departing Mattia Mustacchio will also be unavailable for the cup as his transfer to Ancona have come to the final stage.

Division 3 side Leyton Orient who received a bye in the second round of Youth Cup are expected to field their youth team ahead of the match. The O's manager Zak Cluer could field in his youth side that won 2-1 to Crewe Alexandra in the second leg of first round. Itumeleng Khune, Raúl Iberbia, Buss Henrique, Ivan Ivanov and Fraizer Campbell are expect to start in the match. Maxi Moralez who played in the previous round of the competition, however, have left the club and thus will involve in their Youth Cup campaign.

French Winger Belay spotted at Blackpools Training Ground

Blackpool are believed to be discussing terms with a player who may sign by the end of today.Monaco winger Maurice Belay or just Belay was spotted driving into Blackpools training ground. The winger who is also a useful striker was told he was not in the Monaco managers plan and has been looking for a move ever since. It might be deemed as a step down but first team football is surely what is craved by Belay.Heres what he said when he was told he was not wanted.

"I am deeply upset by the news that I am not wanted by Monaco or the Monaco manager.I have many friends in this club and it has become a second home for me.If it is time to move on I will welcome the chnage with open arms but I will only be looking for a club that can give me first team football."

This news comes after Ryan promised a spending spree of up to 25M.French sources value Belay at 3.5 M.Ryan hopes the spree will inject some competition for places and bring in results. After he announced that his team recorded a win against Bournemouth. Will Belay complete a move to Blackpool?

Crewe Previews

Tonight Friendly [H] - Notts County

26 Oct English Cup Quarter Final [A] - Northampton Town

28 Oct Division 3 [A] - Yeovil Town

29 Oct Friendly [H] - Shorpe United

31 Oct Division 3 [H] - Bradford City

Crewe ring in the changes for tonights friendly against Notts County, with Ailderweireld, Kuiper and Teber all getting unexpected call ups. Modric, Friedrich, and Elia are all dropped, but Bellamy is being given the chance to score his first goal following his transfer earlier in the week.

With just 2 wins in 8 league games, a formation change will be tested tonight, and if succesful given another run against Northampton tomorrow using tonights squad.

Although the cup is a good route to money, the league is seen as more important to Crewe boss Sean as they sit just 9 points above relegation.

Wednesdays league game at bottom place Yeovil should see the return of Modrich and Freidrich, however Bellamy is expected to be rested. Although Yeovil are on a run of 15 succesive defeats, the run is bound to end soon, and this is a fact Crewe are very wary about.

Injuries aside, a full strength side should then be out for Thursdays games against Shorpe. Despite being run by EC106's resident alcoholic, Shorpe have got together an amazing side, but Crewe are hoping to be able to set a few ghosts to rest after last season's embarassing 6-1 defeat.

The week is then ended with a home game against Monty's Bradford, who currently occupy one of the play off spots coveted by the Gresty Road outfit. If all goes well against Shorpe, then the same squad formation will play on Saturday, however another embarasment could see the club once again switching formation.

Narrow win for Gillingham at Preistfield

8pv524n1tfd9.jpg

(Pictured left: Sercan Yildrim making his mark for Gillingham with another goal.)

After suffering a shocking 7-2 loss on Wednesday Gillingham were looking to get things back on track with a win against Hull City at home. Things got off to a bad start though, Gillingham were asleep at the back and kept letting Hull attack and with just 7 minutes gone Hull bagged their first goal when Jeffren dribbled like Kaka and finished like Ronaldo to put the Tigers 1-0 up. Totally against the run of play on the 25th minute Gillingham were given the chance to get back in the game after the ball bounced up on the skiddy surfaces and hit Eboue on the arm and a penatly was given by referee Fritz Stuchlik, Turk Sercan Yildrim stepped up and slotted the ball past Arruda Helton in the Hull goal, game on. The game evened up abit on the stroke of half time, the 40th minute seen some magic from Ivorian forward Bakari Kone who shown his strengh and determination after battling his was through the Hull defence to slot home he's first goal of the game and send Gillingham in leading 2-1 at half time.

Hull City got the game kicked off in the second half an immediatly made a quick response, a dangerous ball whipped in from the left was met on the head by Swedish striker Johan Elmander who levels things up for Hulll City and both teams equal yet again. Both teams were really going for it but Hull were caught on the attack after a costly mistake by Michael Johnson led to Ivorian striker Bakari Kone smashing the ball past Helton who was destraut as he thought that the quick footed Kone was offside but the goal stands, 3-2 Gillingham. Hulll never give up, another swift move from the young footballing side led to another very good goal, Michael Johnson crossed a dangerous ball from the right and it was met on the left foot volley by Chilean Alexis Sanchez who has sent the 2,000 Hull supporters wild in the far stand at Priestfield. Bakari Kone though then bagged a hat trick with another clinical goal from the Ivorian, Kone played a brilliant 1 2 with Vukcevic on the left wing and was amazingly bent round Brazilian goal keeper Helton and in to the top corner of the Hull City goal, possibly contender for goal of the season so far. It was an amazing game at Priestfield but it finished Gillingham 4 Hull City 3 in the end and next up for Gillingham is a tough away game at Swansea who are theirselfs aiming for a top 6 spot this season.

Notts County Win Tough Incounter Against A Strong Crewe

It was a damp night in Nottighamshire, and it was alate ngith fixture between two of the so called GIANTS of League 1 and we were defernatly in for a treat of football skills. It was going to be a close game undoubtidly. Some might say it was a one man show from Notts County striker Bobby Zamora. However its a team game and in the end it was the home side who came away with all 3 points so lets see just how.

Kick-Off time, you could feel the fear apon every player and their hearts racing as the whistle went and it all started and it was Crewe Alexandra who kicked-off and played the ball around, they had their first chance early on from Russian Izmailov who hit the side nettign to the relief of Notts County's Lithuanian Goalkeeper Giedrius Aralauskis. It was a pretty even contest in front of goal both sides having their chances, New Crewe player Craig Bellamy with his fiar share of chances but yet to beat the Notts County Number one. Half time nearign and both sides looking to get that all important first half goal. However it wasnt to happen as Austrian Referee Bernhard Brugger blew for half time. Both managers had their say and the players were back on the pitch all up and ready for the second half. It was Notts County with the kick off and they kept the possession well and had their fair share of shots too, then a moment of magic from inside the box form Bobby Zamora saw Notts County go ahead in the 61st minute. Could Notts County keep the lead for just under half an hour? Can They add to their lead? or will they throw it all away?. With Crewe Pyling on the pressure it was tough times for Notts County but they fought out for the win and can be happy wiht their win tonight and will noe go top of League 1.

Newcastle this morning have announced the major swoop for Frank LAMPARD in a deal that see's Alou DIARRA and Michael OWEN move in the other dirrection. After long negotiations with Arsenal the deal almost fell through with Newcastle struggling to stump up the extra cash. But Butler keen to land the Highly rated England International decided the quick fire sale of young Michael BRADLEY to Borussia Monchengladbach was essential in getting his man. The deal leaves Newcastle with only 2 strikers with the departure of Owen so a change of formation looks likely.

Mondragon enjoys a final kiss and cuddle with Lions boss Dave Izod.

Millwall bid a fond farewell to its loyalist of servants with the news that 38 year old keeper and club skipper Fayrd Mondragon has today agreed terms with German outfit FC Koln. Mondragons 3.2 million pounds departure, signels the end of an era at the New Den and draws the curtain on a fantastic 9 season career at the club in which he started an incredible 300 league games. The Columbian decided to move on after last weeks signing of 26 year old Scottish stopper Craig Gordon, who laid a firm claim for the No 1 spot with a sensational man of the match debut performance at Derby County at the weekend.

Elsewhere in South London, the Lions also said farewell to reserve striker Angelo Baltana. Baltana failed to make the desired progress at the Den and after just a handful of cup and friendly appearances leaves for non-league Hereford United in a £800,000 cash deal.

Arriving in SE18 today, the Lions picked up Newcastle’s Argentinean attacking midfielder Danny Montenegro in a week long trial before completing an expected £8 million permanent transfer at the end of the week. Montenegro arrives at the Den with a reputation as a proven provider come goal scorer after picking up 28 goals in a 122 game EC 106 career at first division Newcastle and Sunderland. Following the appointment of new Toon Steve Butler the 30 year old has found himself surplus to requirements in the icing Northeast and is understood to have jumped at the chance of first team division 2 football.

Jake in line for Scotland job?

_42682195_ab12.jpg

(The Scots are on the hunt for a new manager after being left managerless earlier today.)

Reports in Warsaw late this evening is rumouring that Poland international manager has been approached by Scotland after their job vacancy became availible earlier today. Poland, who have won 2 out of their 3 qualifiying game are desperate to keep hold of Englishmen Jake A until after the World Cup to see if the Polish side can achieve something under Jake. Also manager of Gillingham, Jake has guided Gillingham out of the Division 3 relegation zone since taking charge just over a month ago now and if his Gillingham form continues he can guide he's side to safety for the rest of the league season.

Our SkySportsNews team managed to catch up with the Gillingham and Poland manager outside Gillinghams training ground late tonight and this is what he had to say to them on the latest saga revolving around Jake, "I can't comment yet on the Scotland job situation, I would love to manage a big club like Scotland and hopefully guide them to be as successful as England in making it through to World Cups etc. At this moment in time I am still fully dedicated to Poland but it may be easier for me to manage Scotland as it's closer to home, I will update you's in the next few days."

News coming out of Gillingham this morning is that Turkish striker Sercan Yildrim has been backed up by Gillingham manager Jake A that he deserves an International call up due to his fine form in Division 3 at the moment. The Turk has played 9 games under Jake this season in witch he has scored 4, assisted 3 and won 2 man of the matches in witch is a decent £5 million 2 seasons ago. It is expected that Yildrim and Bakari Kone will partner the strike force in their home game on Wednesday against Swansea in witch if Gillingham win Jake could help Sean's Crewe take over Swansea with a win at bottom club Yeovil Town.

Yeovil Manager Tom Tamburro Admits His Worried.

Yeovil Town manager Tamburro has today admitted that he is worried about the future of this club. He said briefly to Sky Sports News "Im worried. This team is going down every so often and not only will we be getting relagated to the bottom division, our players are not botherd any more. They know that no one is going to buy them so they have nearly gave up. But i spoke to them this morning and they said they are willing to the club, and will not abbandon the club in its time for need. I do blame our chairman for all this though. He had money to give at the end of last season but didnt give us a penny. Im not scared about saying this about our chairman because he knows he has done wrong. If he gave us atleast 6/7 million last season, yes our chairman would of been abit worried about wasting of the money, but we could of bourght a few new faces into the team which would of maybe got us the play-off spaces."

Tom Tamburro also admitted he is buying players now that will perform in the bottom division.

Ronaldo arrives at Gresty Road

(not the fat one, or the diver, but another one)

Crewe today confirmed the arrivals of 3 new players.

Luiz Alves Ronaldo

ronaldop.jpg

The young Brazilian defender has arrived following a tip off from brazilian superscout MsF. He is a relative unknown outside of Brazil but has convinced Cree boss Sean that he is worth a gamble.

Ivan Perisic

perisic.jpg

Perisic becomes yet another Croatian to join the club, signing a 5 year deal.

Perisic is a product of the Hajduk Split youth academy and joined French side Sochaux at the age of 17. He failed to make an impact at les Lionceaux and joined Belgian giants Club Brugge this summer.

Prior to his move to Crewe he has been gaining some Europa league experience at Club Brugge, and although he is never going to be a hearthrob, the club are hoping he can team up with Modric and Sharbini to create a tremendous attacking threesome.

Mark Bunn

bunn9800.jpg

Having tipped fellow EC106 managers of 4 weeks ago regarding a 77 rated goalie who is getting regular championship football, and available for just over a million, Crewe manager Sean was surprised when no-one took a gamble on him. So decided to invest himself.

Former Northampton keeper Bunn has signed on a 3 year deal.

OXFORD UTD TRANSFER NEWS

Tomasz Hajto said farewell to the Oxford Utd faithful after six seasons and 171 appearances for the club. He went back to his native Poland when he signed for Lodzki KS for just under 1.250.000 million in what was a shrewd negotiation for the Oxford Utd Coach. He signed for Oxford Utd as a 31 year old for 600,000 so Oxford Utd have done well out of the player. Oxford Utd manager David Belkevitz spoke earlier today, "Tomasz has been a very good servant to the club and it's with regret that he has to move on, but he has returned to his native Poland and at 37 years old, has been a model player during his long playing career. I couldn't guarantee him first team football and he knows the score, he's in the twilight of his career and things move on. I have my eye on a few players but money is the governing force so I will have to be prudent in a replacement for Tomasz. Nikkari and Nordvik are playing well in defence when asked and perhaps it's time to blood them fully into the first team. Things are looking up for us at the moment, although relegation is always just over your shoulders, we have been playing well and I'm very pleased with the improvement of my younger players. After being criticised earlier by another manager, I can say that Oxford Utd are slightly in the black and we have a surplus of about 5 million profit on the players I brought in during the summer, but I have no intention of being a feeder club, I will watch them closely and see how things pan out, but things are looking good for us at the moment."

Dean denied any Charlton players unhappy with their wages

Charlton Athletic manager Dean Bryant has denied reports that Charlton players have not received their wages this month and also claim that the club is in strong position with their current balance. "It's definately not true that the players have not been paid this month," Dean told The Soccer Manager Times. "I believe we are in strong position with our current financial. They are fully paid in every week and I don't see the reason why they are not happy with their wages. The reason why I sold Nilmar was because he has not been performing well for the team and he may need to settle at other club to get back to on track."

Jared: "Hart is not good enough!"

Joe Hart in Manchester City days: labellled not good enough to play for Cardiff

Cardiff manager Jared has laughed off speculation from The Sun linking Cardiff to a £10 million bid for Preston 'keeper Joe Hart. The article is seen below:
James Burrows has turned down a £10m bid from Cardiff for an unnamed Player. Speculation is that it could have been for Preston's back up keeper Joe Hart who is on the list for £15m.

The Sun

Jared said this' date=' "Personaly I laughed when I saw this article. Hart is a good promising keeper but due to England's limited goalkeeping stocks his potential has been immensely blown up by the media in hope of him becoming a keeping sensation. Personally I would not buy him- Rost is a brilliant first choice keeper as shown recently. We are on the look-out to maybe sign a young keeper but we first want to improve other areas of our squad.'

'I do feel sorry for Hart- he has had heaps of pressure to become a great keeper but I can never see him reaching his hyped potential. Yes he is a good young keeper but he will never be a great keeper.'[/indent']
