Middlesbrough failed to take advantage of facing the struggling Carlisle Utd with the game ending 1-1 and dominating the possession with 57% Boro did look like taking all 3pts when going in front in the 69th minute when Jose Maria Guti's low drive flew past the Carlisle keeper however only 8 minutes past when Carlisle pulled level thanks to Kevin Phillips with the game ending 1-1.

The draw leaves Middlesbrough sitting in 4th place just 2pts behind Stoke who lost to Liverpool while Crystal Palace leap frog up to 3rd place after a win against Struggling Villa

BRENTFORD EASE TO WIN OVER BASEMENT BOYS

Brentford 3-0 Bournemouth

Brentford cruised past Bournemouth in a match they dominated without ever really getting out of second gear. The home side welcomed back Nouioui Lassad to the starting line up for the first time in several weeks. The Tunisian hitman showed the Bee's fans what they had been missing.

The home side were brilliant at holding onto the ball, making the Bournemouth players chase shadows at times. It was a fairly slow first half in which neither side really threatened too much. Clearly Richardson wasnt too happy and let his players know all about it at the break. Lassad was slipped in with a wonderful through ball by new signing Vorobyev and he poked the ball underneath the keeper to give them the lead.

lassad_laopinioncoruna.com.jpg

Lassad celebrates his return with a goal

Just four minutes later Vitaliy Mandzyuk put the game beyond doubt with a bullet like effort into the corner of the net. Sixty seconds later, Andy Driver was wasteful in front of goal and his header went wide from only four yards. But Brentford would not be denied and with only two minutes left for play, substitute Haraguchi hit a beauty that the keeper couldnt hold onto and Prediguer was on hand to tap the ball into the empty net. 3-0 and job done for Brentford.

In the end, it was a comfortable nights work and will do Brentfords confidence the world of good. Lassad's return will be a massive boost for Richardson and his goal and man of the match performance will be a great return for the striker.

I think it was a good performance. We never really had to push too hard to win the game. I felt the first half we didnt create enough chances but we were keeping the ball well and passing it around very neatly. The new tactics worked well from that point of view. Bournemouth were also not given too many chances to trouble Joe Lewis in our goal either. All in all, it was a good nights work for us and thats a few points we have racked up in the last few games and it is pleasing to regain a little bit of consistency. Let's hope we can keep it up. You never know how we could do, the playoff positions are not really that far away from us.

Richardson was delighted with Lassad's comeback goal

Match Report

Match Commentary

An exciting game with Chesterfield equalising no less than 3 times thanks to an impressive hatrick from Pekhart. The game, which was filled with defensive errors, was wrapped up by strikes from Cacau and Nocerino.

Scorers

Shorpe United: 5

Cacau 6, 80

Braafheid 37

Cicero 67

Nocerino 88

Chesterfield: 3

Pekhart 10, 54, 74

2009-02-10-braafheid-2.jpg

Braafheid was to busy scoring to mark Pekhart

Comment

Shorpe's away form has been worrying over the season at times with only one defeat in the league coming at home, and these defensive frailities were exposed again but a fine attacking display gives room for confidence for The Iron.

The big game in Div 4 saw Colchester win 3-0 away at Rochdale. Kitson was sent of early on, however Crawford did still praise a strong victory by Dragovic against controversial manager Sutcliffe's side. Rochdale fall further down the table, but as across EC106 it remains tight and a strong run of form by any team could make them contenders.

Pip, in the interests of fairness (but not in the interests of your credibility as a mathematician :P)

I must let you know that since I took over I have only played 3 league games, 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss, thereby my ranking points should only be 5 unless I've missed something :)

Walsall Lose again to add more Trouble to manager.

billy-davies_1463320c.jpg

The walsall manager,Cun jue Peh,Might be the next to be sacked.

The Troubled Club,Walsall Today lost a match which they clearly must win to improve the morale, but somehow, they lost it.Walsall had recently announced that their Boss have gone Brankrupt and with Players not recieving their pays together with the club in debt,Walsall was hoping that they can get a win to improved the morale,However, things never really went their way.Walsall, whom faced Hartlepool United today, played badly in the game. From the game players definatly knew that the morale is low and the camp is not in a very good conditions,Which adds more Pressure for Manager,Cun jue Peh to work. The game started well for the home side when Hans BERGGREN managed to score for Hartpool. However,Matías DE FEDERICO was quick to equalise the score for Walsall in the 15th min.The team looked to have held on to a 1:1 result only to found the dream Fell into pieces as Hans BERGGREN scored in the 38th min.The result was at 2;1 during the break.Sebastian TYRALA then add to walsall woes when he scored with a good header to make the score 3:1 for Hartpool at the 50Th min. However,Fans never really tought it would happen but Albin EKDAL whom managed to get a start today scored a good Free kick to return a goal for walsall,However,Walsall never looked like they can equalised when Jenílson JUNIOR scored to put the game safely into Hartpool's Hands.

Not much time left for the Manager,if things still dont change,he might just be the next to be sacked

Today,Division 4 Side,Walsall managed to interview the manager after the match,Many belived that the Underperforming side is about to sack Current manager,Cun Jue Peh following a lost to Hartpool United.Cun jue Peh,is currently the longest serving manager to have Led Walsall in 61 games and managed to get 96 points for the Div 4 club. Many said that Cun jue Peh might have transformed the club since he was appointed on 27th Apr 2009,But still the club is not getting any better. However, some fans disagree. The club's current crisis is not Cun jue peh's Fault as some belived in.The fall of Wall Street triggered a fiancial problem to the Struggling club, however, with so many problems,He(Cun jue Peh) Still managed to get points out of the team. However, despite the fact that the fans still belives in the Manager,But many predict that the next to face the sack,Is going to Cun jue Peh.Maybe not now,But if the club continue to lose,He might just be off the team.

Riquelme magic gives Cardiff the point

p1_riquelme_1120.jpg

Riquelme's trademark free-kick was the winner

A great game of football was played at the Cardiff City Stadium. The home fans were shocked when only nine minutes in John Carew's crisp volley fired Plymouth into the lead. But half an hour in Cardiff responded when Nene picked up a loose pass by compatroit Luisao and chipped the oncoming Rustu. Half time was 1-1. In the second half Patrick Viera poked home after a Rustu fumble, but Plymouth immediately replied, with a powerful run from Carew, who then unleashed his shot into the top corner. Riquelme then won the game with a brilliant curling free-kick which skimmed in off the post to give Cardiff all three points.

Man of the Match: Riquelme

Preston held to draw as Nilmar makes debut

Preston were held 1-1 by Derby in a game where the Lilywhites will have hoped to get three points. A 65th minute goal by Peter Crouch was cancelled out by yet another late goal from Luigi Vitale. Crouch has now scored three in his last two and seven in total this season. Record signing Nilmar made his debut tonight before being substituted in the 60th minute. Loan signing Paulo Ferreira also came on in the 60th minute.

Blackpool walked onto the field with bad form mustering 6 points from a possible 15.Luton were the complete opposite and were 2nd in Division 4 and one of the favourites to win promotion.Nobody was giving Blackpool much of a chance and a Luton away win was predicted.

11:GOAL!! - Dmitri Khoklov smashes it with venom into the roof of the net!

BOOKED - A stupid challenge by Ludovic Sylvestre results in a yellow card

At Half-time Luton had taken contol of all the stats.Possesion Shots Shots On Taget etc were all on their side and Blackpool needed a kick up the backside. It seems Ryan gave them exactly that and Blackpool came out to give the home fans a piece of what should have been coming all season.

55:GOAL!! - The ball is casually rolled into the net by Daniel Alavaro Pereira, where was the defence!

DONCASTER ROVERS 3-1 OXFORD UTD

Oxford Utd took on league leaders Doncaster Rovers and proved worthy opponents in an evenly contested first half. Oxford went close on a few ocassions and on another day, could easily have went in at the break two goals up. HT0-0

Doncaster Rovers came out firing on all cylinders and two strikes in three minutes just after the restart effectively ended the game as a contest. Mbaye Leye (49) and David Barral (52) sent the home crowd alight with two great efforts. 2-0

Oxford Utd dug in and tried to reduce the arrears but as the gaps at the back began to widen, it was no surprise when Baroni Christian slammed home a long range effort in the 74th minute to kill off any hopes Oxford Utd had of getting anything from the match. 3-0

Antonio Eder pulled one back in the 87th minute but it was a case of to little too late for the Oxford men. FT 3-1

The Oxford Utd coach spoke after the match, "We did well in the first half and more than held our own, in fact, we should have been ahead going into the break but losing two goals so early in the second half was a killer blow. No excuses, we played well but were beaten on the day by the better side."

"Not a Good Start..."

bendtner_280x420_41618a.jpg

Were Chazza's comments about last night's game. Barnsley beat Swansea City by two goals to one last night and Chazza was far from impressed with his team's performance. Swansea dropped to fourteenth last night making promotion ever more difficult for new boss Chazza Bones.

Chazza officially said to Sky Sports:-

"We didn't live up to the tempo of Barnsley's strong team last night. They had more shots than us and I believe we should have been stronger at the back. Nicklas Bendtner obviously got our goal and I believe he is the man who could get our goals this season, I hope that we can get a result against Doncaster."

The Match Went Like This:-

Kick-Off

2: A clear crisp strike by Torres JUANFRAN hits the side netting!

3: de Araujo RAFFAEL gains control at the edge of the box but curls his shot inches wide

5: Dias FELIPE drags his shot wide

6: BOOKED - Nikola KALINIC for blocking an opponents run

8: A curling shot from Dias FELIPE goes just wide of the post

9: Dias FELIPE finds himself in time and space but nothing is made of it

11: A dangerous cross by Enzo PÉREZ races across the mouth of the goal

15: Nélson BENITEZ takes control of the loose ball

16: GOAL!! - The flat-footed centre-back is caught out by a piece of pure genius from de Araujo RAFFAEL who shows great composure to finish!

18: Diego BUONANOTTE gets in the way of a thundering shot

21: Dudu AOUATE dives to his left and clutches the ball to his chest

23: The imposing Nicklas BENDTNER heads inches over

26: Daniele MANNINI nearly gives the crowd something to cheer about as his drive whistles past the post

28: A mazey dribble by Hoffmann MARK GONZALEZ but he is unfortunate as he fails to get his shot on target

29: A golden opportunity is wasted and Daniele MANNINI knows it!

31: A 25 yard shot by Torres JUANFRAN smashes against the crossbar

33: With an open goal Nicklas BENDTNER shot blazes over the bar! No wonder he's looking at the ground!

39: RED CARD - Nikola KALINIC is dimissed for a dangerous two-footed tackle!

42: GOAL!! - An excellent header by Nicklas BENDTNER crashes into the back of the net!

43: Some hard tackling by Renat YANBAEV, contributing to his teams defence

44: Nicklas BENDTNER is clean through on goal with only the keeper to beat, but hits the outside of the post

Half Time

48: Hoffmann MARK GONZALEZ is starting to boss the play as he is getting more on the ball and space

51: A scramble in the six yard box ensues and Alberto CARLOS SANCHEZ blasts it into the arms of the keeper

53: A short range effort is easily saved by Dudu AOUATE

60: A shot from Oliveira EDER LUIS is cleared off the line and out to safety

62: An easy chance by Dudu AOUATE goes begging

68: Daniele MANNINI places a right foot shot wide from twenty yards out

69: Torres JUANFRAN has his head in his hands, after he blasts wide infront of an open goal!!!!

70: Dudu AOUATE comes within inches of scoring, getting on the edge of a fine cross, glancing his free header just wide

71: The ball is knocked long by Enzo PÉREZ, to send the ball into the oppositions half

72: GOAL!! - Using all his skill Manuel OBINA darts past the defenders and drives the ball past the keeper!

82: BOOKED - Torres JUANFRAN booked after time wasting

83: RED CARD - Darío VERON is shown a straight red after a petulant kick at his marker

85: A fumbled pass by Héctor REYNOSO goes out of play

89: The ball ricochets off Nicklas BENDTNER and out of play

Full Time

Man Of The Match:- de Araujo Raffael

Swansea's next match is at home against Doncaster. Doncaster are currently top of Division 3 and are by far favourites to win the match on Saturday evening. Doncaster will be in no mood to slip up.

Sutcliffe: "Styles Should Be Banned"

styles_280x390_600650a.jpg

Styles, who has been axed once from the EPL already, wrongly sent off Dave Kitson on Wednesday night.

Rochdale Boss Speaks Out On Red Card Decision

Speaking to The Times, Sutcliffe, a qualified referee, spoke angrily about the decision that cost his team dear last night, as they sunk to a 3-0 home defeat to Colchester United.

Sutcliffe Said:

It's disgraceful. Law 18 for a referee is common sense. Rob Styles has none, there is no question about it. No more than 7 minutes into one of the biggest games of the season, Dave Kitson mistimes a tackle on the edge of Colchesters box. It's his first tackle, it is not reckless or malicious. Simply mistimed. For Dave to then be booked for that, is ludicrous. It's crazy. Styles, quick as anything took his yellow card out of his pocket. To stamp his authority? To prove a point. I don't know. All I know is Kitson mistimes a tackle and was booked for his first foul, in the oppositions half. 25 minutes in, the game is still hectic. Both teams are fired up and Kitson, again in the oppositions half goes to block a clearance by their Right Back. He perhaps catches the lad with his trailing leg but he wasn't showing studs and he was no where near to the opponent with his leading leg. The decision to send off, 25 minutes into a game like this, ruins the experience and Styles has failed to use common sense. A win puts us 2nd, a loss means we are now 4th. We didn't stand a chance with 10 men and a still not fully fit Rickie Lambert on his own up front. Styles needs to go and learn the laws. He has ruined what should have been an exceptional game of football, in order to try and look big and clever. He's not at all. He should be banned from refereeing anywhere near the top level again as far as I'm concerned. He's a donkey. I've recieved no apology, and neither has Dave. He refuses to admit his mistake and therefore we cannot appeal. It's petty and childish. He needs to go home and quit football, lousy piece of horse turd. Never come near me again Styles, your not welcome.

Match Report Round 24 - Rochdale vs Colchester United

Rochdale.jpgRochdale 0 - 3 ColchesterColchester.jpg

(Half Time 0 - 0)

F. Nimani 51, 86

V. Pliatsikas 61

What a great result for Dragovics boys away from home. Luckily his team were playing against 10 men after Rochdales main striker Dave Kitson got sent off after 25 minutes. This result moves Colchester to 3rd spot on 43 points, 1 point away from 2nd pot Luton. Unfortunately for Rochdale, bad form over the past 6 games only collecting 5 points from a possible 18. The result moves them down to 4th, 1 point from Colchester. It was a close game in the first half with the result at 0 – 0. Colchester looked the more promising side with a man more. The second half really showed the class that Colchester had especially with Federic Nimani managing to find the net twice and Greek international Vasilis Platsikas netting the second, earning himself the Man of the Match award. Colchester dominated the possession 58% to Rochdales 42%. Colchester also had 23 shots to Rochdales 19. Over all it was a good result for Dragovics men helped with the early sending off of Kitson. Dragovic said after the game "It was good to get a 3 – 0 win away from home against a strong side. Both of us don’t have high rated players but we continue to get results. It was unfortunate fro Elliot, one of the mangers I respect a lot to lose his man so early, but I am proud of the performance my team put in. Again Nimani showing his class against the Rochdale defense including Gibbs who I rate very highly and I think was a great signing for Elliot. I am pleased that we kept him quiet down the wing and I am hoping we can continue this form”.

Dave Kitson got himself sent off after receiving two yellow cards. The first was a yellow after fouling Orlando on the edge of the box, but the second didn’t seem to be a card. The tackle was a free kick but didn’t deserve his second yellow.

610x.jpg

Dave Kitson first yellow.

Nimani scored his first in the 51st minute with a clever goal built up by Orlando Sa. The striker ran down the bi line and cut it back to the goals scoring Nimani. His second came late on in the 86th running through slowly to the keeper and slot the sealer home nicely.

The French striker celebrating his second.

The second goal came in the 61st minute from Pliatsikas. A neat finish from inside the box earnt the midfielder his Man of the Match awards including the assists for Nimani’s second. His performance muct of been good to beat Nimani’s!

Mazuch: Return to Darlington from his second unsuccessful loan spell with Charlton

Ondrej Mazuch has returned to Darlington after his loan spell at Charlton Athletic has been officially terminated. The 20-year-old has had his first loan spell with the Addicks unsuccessful but made his shock move back to The Valley for his second spell to play for the Division 2 side mainly for the Youth Cup. Charlton knocked out of the competition in the second leg against Middlesbrough with an aggregate 4-0 when Charlton played a full first team squad instead of eligible youth squad and has been punished with a 3-0 defeat. Charlton lost 1-0 to Middlesbrough in the first leg.

RICHARDSON: PRESTON THE ONLY CLUB WITH RESPECT

As the race to sign Rodriguez Pedro from Brentford heats up, current boss Darren Richardson is fuming at what he calls the 'lack of respect for smaller clubs' from some other managers in the league. It is understood that Tranmere Rovers and Liverpool made bids for the young winger that Richardson described as 'derisory'. The bid from Preston remains undisclosed but Richardson would admit it was a fantastic offer.

Without doubt Preston manager James Burrow is the only manager currently making offers that come anywhere near tempting for us. The other offers are comical and I feel they question my intelligence. We do not want to encourage any further offers as we would like to keep Pedro as I feel he has a very bright future and he has shown some good performances for us this season. It will be a £1m very well spent from our point of view regardless of what happens in the future.

Barcelona+v+UD+Almeria+La+Liga+UzQ4NSYbRGpl.jpg

Pedro making his debut at Barcelona - will Brentford be able to hold onto their prize asset?

Pedro started his career at Barcelona before making the £1m move to Brentford. It is thought Richardson promised to make the wingers career happen in England and judging by the amount of interest in the player and the size of some of the bids, it has been a major coup for Brentford. Richardson clearly has an eye for a player.

HOLT ON ENGLAND

Holt also gave a quick interview to the French media regarding England.

"I can't believe how many two faced managers we have in our game" exclaimed Holt. "It wasn't too long ago Mr Izod and co were involved in a slagging match with Mr Sutcliffe. Now they believe he is the best thing since sliced bread. They have no backbone at all do they? but the facts speak for themselves. A draw at home to Saudi Arabia, a 4-1 loss in Paraguay and a poor draw in Venezuala. Instead of being on 7 points in which everybody expected they are on 2 points which I find disgraceful. With the quality of players available to Sutcliffe he should have done 10 times better. But for Izod and co to come out and support him and tell him he's doing a good job I find a joke. I for one will speak the truth and if they can't win at home against Ghana tonight then id expect Mr Sutcliffe to resign with immiediate effect. On the other hand I support the England players 100% and hope they grab all 3 points at Wembley this evening."

England v Ghana - Life Or Death

england-badge.jpg

England seek desperately needed victory

No less than a win will do tonight as England prepare to face Ghana at Wembley. Since taking the England job, Sutcliffe has seen his club form suffer and his managerial status hit a remarkable low. He has been labelled useless and incapable by many managers across EC106 and despite recieving support from others, he has so far been unable to get his first win in charge. Tonight, he has to. With 5 games remaining, England are 4 points behind the qualification spots. The squad has been named and the manager gave a quick interview on all England related matters earlier this morning.

Going into tonights game, Group 6 lies as follows...

1 Ghana 3 6 6

2 Paraguay 3 3 6

Sutcliffe In Interview

On Owen's Recall:

Michael deserves this. He obviously hadn't been playing regularly at Newcastle, was shipped to Man City and even there he wasn't getting a game, despite 2 in 4 this season. Aaron at Arsenal assures me he's fully fit now and after his goal on his debut Wednesday, I couldn't dismiss him. We need goals and at the moment we are struggling to get them. We know Michael is capable more than most so he will get a chance for sure, he just needs to take it.

On Ghana:

A good side that top our group, but have shown that they can be beaten. We are good enough to do it so we are gonna go out there and prove that we can. I'm fully aware that they are going to be physical, and solid at the back but we need to control that and be efficient enough to take our chances when they come. Essien is likely to play midfield, I'm not worried about the legs of our midfield, as we have ample cover at the back if anything gets through there.

Ghana's talisman will be at Wembley again, this time against England

On Gerrard + Lampard:

Can they play together? Yes. Do they fit together into the system I want to play? No. It is more than likely 1 will be dropped tonight. I have players who I believe are playing well enough to get in the side, and I have players who are good enough to get in any side. Frank and Stevie would on their own get into any other International side, yet we are now at a point where both of them can't play together in ours. One will be dropped and it's a big decision that I personally have to make.

Sutcliffe says one will be dropped, but which?

On Scholes:

I really hope that he finds the right club for him because from a personal point of view he's my favourite player. Full stop. He's the ultimate professional, gets on with his job and goes home, no bull. Football wise he's perfect for International Football. You get more time on the ball and that means you need a player that is capable of taking it off the back four everytime and keep the game moving. His technique is quite phenomenal and he's still capable of running the show at this level. I'm grateful he's given England this World Cup, we need him desperately.

Paul Scholes - Perfect for International Football

Can they do it?

Of course we can. As has been said on numerous occasions, we have the players to do it, we just need to start working as a team and getting things right. In the end, it's not down to what Paul Holt thinks, what Dave Izod thinks, what Sean Fitzpatrick or anyone else thinks. I'm here to do a job. I will be here to see it through whether we qualify or not. I won't be quitting and I tell you this, I won't be losing. There is no way I'm going to be exiled like Steve McLaren for not taking us to a major championships. This is the best country in the world, and to be thought of as the best man for the job by the people above me, is an honour. We will qualify and it will be down to me and the players, no one else.

Crewe nab two, with one more on the way

Crewe today confirmed 2 new signings, with a 3rd player in discussing personal terms.

Marcos Camozzato

Camozzato has signed a 3 year deal, following a £6.6mil move. The defender has been playing Champions league football with Standard Liege, but gave that up to join former Standard team-mate Sinan Bolat at Gresty Road.

Iván Riki

Spanish forward Ivan Riki has signed in a deal that saw Bellusci leave Gresty Road. The former Real Madrid C+B striker has ben in great form for Deportivo this season and offers Crewe boss Sean options both up front and on the wing.

John Arne Riise

Norwegian international John Arne Riise is currently at Gresty Road discussing personal terms after a £13.5mil swap deal was arranged with Besiktas, that sees Mame Diouf(9mil) and Selim Teber(4.5mil) leave Gresty Road.

Riise, who won the 1st division title with Blackburn last season, will bring a vast amount of experience to the Crewe back four.

Crewe boss Sean thought hard with the worried Crewe board to be able to sign Riise, claiming that a back four of Riise, Camozzato, Freidrich and Heinze could help the club make a last minute dash to the playoffs, with Douglas, Collins or Cahill able to replace Heinze once his loan is up. Sean also got assurances off both Craig Bellamy and John that the golf club incident is behind them both.
