Tough task awaits Mariners against top dogs

Hartlepool United vs Grimsby Town match preview

Grimsby Town travel to Victoria Park tonight to take on current division 4 leaders Hartlepool. Both teams form could not be further apart with the Monkey hangers currently on a 27 game unbeaten run in the league while the Mariners have only won 2 of their last 14 matches with the last defeat coming against bottom side Bournemouth at home.

Defender Mark Beevers could feature tonight

Grimsby boss Thompson has been active in the transfer market in the last few days with Swedish striker Johan Elmander leaving the club to join up West Brom for a fee in the region of £7.5 million. Thompson has used some of the cash to add some much needed depth to a depleted squad which has suffered with injuries of late.

Billy Sharp has scored 103 goals in 245 appearances in English football

In the past week 7 new players have come through the Blundell Park arrivals lounge with some notable names amongst them. Defenders Bilel MOHSNI,Mark BEEVERS,Steve WILLIAMS and Aaron MARTIN. Midfielder Ashley GRIMES and strikers Billy SHARP and Apostolos VELLIOS will add much needed competition to a threadbare side.

Ahead of the game Grimsby boss Steve Thompson gave his views.

"The game against Hartlepool is probably our toughest game of the season on current form. They are riding high at the top of the league and unbeaten in 27 games in the league we know we are in for a tough night.

I can't put my finger on why our form has dropped so dramatically in the last few months but when you get into a habit of losing games it is tough to break it. We need a change of mentality and bringing in fresh faces like i have done will help that. The new boys will show no fear and they can inspire the players around them to up their game. Some of the new lads are not ready to play yet they have been brought in for the future but i am pleased with the business i have done and there could still be a couple of more in the next few days"

Preston North End v Tottenham Hotspur

Match Preview

Preston North End welcome 'Spurs' to Deepdale tonight, hoping to reignite their title charge and plunge last season's champions deep into a relegation dog-fight.

Preston halted a run of three straight defeats with a 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic at the weekend, and now find themselves just three points away from leaders Arsenal. Spurs however drew 1-1 with fellow strugglers Tranmere Rovers, and defeat tonight could see them just six points away from the bottom.

Preston are likely to stick with the side that defeated Charlton on Saturday, with danny Welbeck hoping to be on the scoresheet once again. After a disappointing week of transfer activity, where Preston only secured the signing of one player out of five (that player being Jonathan Pitroipa) it looks likely that no further changes will be made to the Preston squad before season's end. Pitroipa misses out on a debut tonight as his move was not finalised in time. Dani Pacheco is preferred to Nicklas Bendtner on the bench, and Stephen Kelly keeps his place on the bench after the sale of Luke Young to Notts County. Michael Owen is expected to start despite rumours of a return to Grimsby Town.

Tottenham have severe doubts over the fitness of Italian trio Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Pirlo and Carvalha Amauri ahead of tonights game, with the three of them doubtful to play any part. Lionel Messi will look to find his best form, as the London club battle against relegation. Spurs lack of a right-back has been cited as the cause of their troubles, and with Welbeck scoring in the previous game, that problem could be made worse. If Chiellini doesnt make the team, then Felipe Dias could come in, with Fabricio Collicini moving to right-back. Steven Defour could be brought in to the side to provide some attacking flair.

Grimsby looking to close the gap

Grimsby Town vs Oxford United match preview

Grimsby Town entertain Oxford United at Blundell Park on Saturday looking to rekindle their faint hopes of making the end of season playoffs. The Mariners produced a coupon busting result in midweek by beating current league leaders Hartlepool united at Victoria Park the Monkey Hangers first league defeat for 27 games. Grimsby Currently sit in 13th position in the league but still only 6 points of the final playoff place which is occupied by Peterborough United and a win over 8th place Oxford will do their chances no harm.

billysharpdoncasterrove.jpg

New signing Billy Sharp impressed on his debut

Grimsby boss Steve Thompson handed debuts to Billy Sharp and Mark Beevers in midweek and with both impressing in the shock win it is likely that they will keep their places in the starting XI. The Mariners were boosted even further on Thursday when it was announced that two new players had signed deals with the club. 20 year old goalkeeper Alex SMITHIES penned a 4 year deal from Barnet while 17 year old Icelandic defender Hörður Björgvin MAGNÚSSON signed on for the next 3 years for a fee of £400.000 from Italian giants Juventus.

New Grimsby signing goalkeeper Alex Smithies

Ahead of the game Mariners boss Thompson gave his views to the press.

"After our superb result in midweek the squad are lookin g forward to this game immensely. Beating top of the league has instilled a confidence in the group that they can go out and beat anybody when they perform.

I have been extremely pleased with the new lads that have come in they have brought a bit of confidence with them and that has rubbed off on the rest of the group. I thought Billy and Mark both had very solid debuts and they will become integral members of the squad.

Oxford are a very good side with a very good manager and we know we are in for an extremely tough game tomorrow but we are confident that we can get a positive result if we perform to the levels that we know we can. The playoffs are still a possibility but we must start collecting more points against the teams who are above us and that can start tomorrow against Oxford at home"

Manchester United v Preston North End

Match Preview

Preston North End hope to get back into the title race with a victory at Old Trafford, with the pre-match news dominated by the appointment of Australian Kopstar at the helm of the Red Devils.

United have underachieved this season, with the Reds 11 points off Div 1 leaders Arsenal, with eight games left to play, the Man Utd board have turned to Kopstar to turn their season around.

Aussie Kopstar has already dipped into the transfer market, with top scorer Fernando Torres moving to leaders Arsenal along with midfielder James Milner, with David Villa moving in the opposite direction. Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul are also expected to leave, with tomorrow night's opponents Preston apparently in the running for the Spaniard.

Rooney and Ferdinand could miss tomorrow night's game, due to ongoing negotiations with other clubs. Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to keep his place after his two goals against Tranmere in midweek. Former Preston player's Marco Marchionni, John Arne Riise and Kevin Prince Boateng are unlikely to play any part, with Marchionni set to leave the club for £3m less than he signed for earlier this season.

Preston have failed to add to their squad since their loss to Tottenham, with Jonathan Pitroipa eligible to play tomorrow night. Ashley Cole is expected to start against his former club, with Paul Konchesky destined to leave the Lilywhites. Glen Johnson has had numerous bids from United rejected, with the England international willing to remain at the Lancashire club for the foreseeable future. Youngsters Danny Simpson and Matty James could play a part against their former club.

Sensi Turns On SE8

Rosella-Sensi.jpg

Carrere Threatened By Frankie And Co.

Rosella Sensi sat in front of the press today to confront an issue brought up last week by The Hull Times, a newspaper increasingly strangled by the hold of Frankie Fraser's notorious SE8 Media group, the same team Sensi hopes to take down in the process of defending Elliot Hilton. Following the amazing picture of the new "bald buddhist" Tia Carrere, Sensi and her legal team made it their prerogative to find the Chinese-American and see for themselves. Sensi was as surprised as anyone to see the actress living the high life. Having tracked down a drunk, gambling and chomping on a hamburger. Clearly embarrassed to have been confirmed a baldy Buddha in practice, a near paraletic Carrere spoke to Sensi's undercover reporter in Las Vegas...

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Man I'm spending everything I got right now. I tell you something right, yeah I tell you something. I am threatened. Bullied. Yes, I slept with Elliot, and yes it was wrong. But yeah, right, you got to understand right. I am no buddhist. I am not a grass. I was forced to speak. I was threatened. Told if I didn't comply I would die. Hey, that rhymes? That's cool right? (Passes Out....) Urghhhhhhhh. (Wakes Up) Hey. You! Wait. I'm not finished. Listen I'm not Buddha. They told me bad things would happen if I didn't talk. They showed the picture and say it would happen if I didn't agree. Next they will show me dead and I will be dead. Take my money. Take everything. I slept with Elliot and it was great yeah yeah yeah. Didn't cheat... Totally on a break. Totally... Yeah so shhhhhhhhhhh. Gotta stay quiet or get shot by Faserrrrr. The Laserrrrrrrrrrrr. (Passes Out)

Tia_Carrere-My_Teachers_Wife-1.jpg

Carrere was partying in Vegas as she spoke to Sensi's undercover man (above)

Sensi played the tape to the watching media and highlighted the important quote's. Sensi was quick to accept that Carrere and Hilton had slept together but she seemed unfazed by this rather drastic installment. Instead she concentrated on the quite disturbing second half of the tape. Carrere stated she was threatened by Fraser and SE8 and it appears that much of her previous quotes about her baldness, buddhist beliefs and future prospects were mere expanded lies and fictional statements. Sensi claimed she was hoping to stamp down on SE8 in what she claims will be a "fair trial, like it or not"

Sensi Said:

Having got in touch with Tia, we were appalled to hear that Frankie Fraser was involved in the harsh treatment of her. The girl was threatened and abused, and she would have continued to be had we not stepped in. We hope to speak to the judge and offer her proper protection before the hearing, This will not be a quickie divorce, and we will be having a fair trial, whether Mr Fraser and Paris like it or not. We would like to stress that despite Miss Carrere admitting she did sleep with my client, we stand by our previous plans of action.

L_Mad_Frank.jpg

Sensi is matching hard nut Fraser all the way...

Sensi's next target appears to be Mathieu Debuchy. The Franch fullback has been linked with Paris of late, with the pair pictured together. Rumour has it the dirt has already been dug and the further SE8 push Sensi, the further she may be willing to go to win this case...

Chico set to leave Forest

Spanish centre back available for transfer

There was a shock move on the transfer front tonight as Nottingham Forest made available their longest serving player, Jose Manuel Chico. The Spaniard has made 94 appearances for Forest, 92 of those being starts and he has been at the club since Season 7. With the loss of form to The Reds four midfielders as well as the fact they have a surplus of centre backs in Gonzalo, Shawcross, Forlin and Maicon, it was decided that a new face in that position would be for the best. Forest currently sit 5 points from the playoffs and the manager is not giving up the hope of securing a playoff place and with 10 games to go, it is a possibility. The required fee for Chico is understood to be a replacement centre midfielder of higher quality.

1283458401josemanuelflo.jpg

(Forest centre back Chico for sale.)

Nottingham Forest vs Northampton Town preview

Forest look to close the gap on the playoffs

Nottingham Forest face a tough test as Northampton come to the City Ground, intent on closing the gap on second place and the automatic promotion places. Forest aren't without their own ambitions, however, as they sit just 5 points from both 5th and 6th place and are looking up in an attempt to force themselves into the playoff positions. Both clubs have lost just once in their last six, but Forest have drawn two games more than their opponents, who sit 10 points better off. Previous meetings are in favour for The Reds as Northampton have just won one of their last 5 against the club, that win coming earlier in the season.

There are no injury or suspension concerns for Forest, with their strongest possible team available and battles for places in midfield and defence expected to be strong. Chico may play his last game for the club before moving on, though if no viable transfer is received he could be at the club for longer. Northampton have left back Jose Mane suspended but otherwise are the same as Forest strength wise.

(Northampton star man Albelda in action.)

Expected Nottingham Forest starting 11 (4-3-3): Foster; Zuniga ©, Gonzalo, Shawcross, Lovren; Adilson, Pierre, Tarasov; Castro, Santana, Alecsandro.

Expected Northampton Town starting 11 (4-5-1): Sorenson ©; Coleman, Johnson, Collins, Contento; Ait-Fana, Albelda, Ferguson, Sulejmani, Vukcevic, Pederson.

Nottingham Forest key man: Mario Santana; The Manchester United loanee has excelled with the 14 games he has played at Forest so far. He has filled the void left after Adam Johnsons departure and has 4 goals and 3 assists to his name so far and has been an influential member of Forests push towards promotion. If Northampton can shut him out the game, they will take out a significant goal threat as well as the main source of creation for the other Forest attackers.

Northampton Town key man: David Albelda; Albelda will be playing his second game for Northampton in the game tomorrow and the Spanish playmaker has the quality to be one of the best players in this Division. His experience will be invaluable in a relatively young midfield and with Northampton only playing one up front, it is doubly important that his passing skills are spot on. His defensive duties may also be tested by the pacey Forest attackers and it will be a real test for him to contain them.

Predicted final score: Nottingham Forest 2 - 1 Northampton Town

ROSELLA OR ROSSI ?

peter_lorre-1.jpg?t=1296919804

Sensi and a computer image of how she might have looked

v2_43_thumb_200150_johnny_cash_1.jpgSue Cash Writes.....Following her shocking attempt to discredit born again baldy Tia Carrere in the gutter press yesterday, Rochdale owner Rosella Sensi finds her / him self at the center of a storm today, when in a sensational turn of events, the EC106 footballing world was in a state of shock after an amazing revelation that the controversial and skeletal Sensi was in fact born a man. Eyetie Sensi made footballing history a few seasons back with her illegal take over of the struggling Dale to become the first woman owner of a professional 106 club. In what has been a largely monumentally unsuccessful reign at Spotlands, the bony bird has courted outrage from day one, and has been dogged by stories of dark back room deeds, the ridiculous antics of her PCP spreading childlike manager Elliot Hilton and the suspicion of illegal links to the near bankrupt Northern Business Alliance. True to form the buck toothed bulimic has once more thrust her pointy nose into the limelight by publicly defending the hated ,child abandoning, ginger haired alley cat Hilton in his increasingly bitter divorce from abandoned wife and the worlds most beautiful woman -ever Paris. As the Rochdale / Hilton camp fight a desperate rearguard action, the honesty of Sensi is once more placed in doubt when after being contacted by her ex boyfriend, Toni Lucca , the Hull Times can exclusively reveal the Rosella was in fact christened Rossi. Speaking from his ice-cream parlour in downtown Rome Lucca told us…

….Ima from a small village inna da country, anna few years ago I go ta Rome to makka my fortune by opening anna icea creama parlour eh?..any howz I open uppa da shop and one of my custama’s was Rosella Sensi. She likka da ice creama and come ere many ah times a weeka…Ok she was no Sophie Loren butta she ad a bigga da smile an longa da air anna and we gotta a longa , you know ?…..soon da latta I asked err out on a datta…She say Si anna we went for da pasta annna da dancing anna we hadda greatta time….after the datta we went for a drive inna ma punto annna I tokka to da ills above da Roma…no soon adda we pulled up then she she saysa to me ‘ eh Toni , you wanna jiggy jiggy with me eh?’…Ok I am an Italiano anna I was , ow you Ingerlish say ‘ wella uppa for it anna we climba inta der backa seata offa da Punto…so der we are anna fings are going well…I’mma kissing er anna squeezing er anna playing with er booby do’s anna I’mma finking Imma onna right resulta eh?…untila I putta ma and onna der inside of er legga an I amm feeling away den all of a sudden Mamma Mia I finda der veg and der roasta beef… So I diva outta da Punto anna she say ‘ Imma sorry Toni, itsa true I amma man anna ma real name is a Rosssi, butta I ama aving anna operation to becomma woman, maybe then we coulda try againa’…I wasa shocked but as I saya I am an Italiano anna I say ah maybe…anyhow she nevera came backa to da icreama parlour anna thelasta time I eard offa er she wasa going to buy de Roachford futbol club……

SE8 MEDIA E+D Spokesman Peter Tachell and Toni Lucca

The revelation that Sensi is / was in fact a man once more raises the topic of transgender in EC106 and pundits and fans alike will recall the botched efforts of the then Crystal Palace manager Paul Holt at fulfilling his dream of becoming a woman. Whilst we at the Hull Times welcome the inclusion of transsexuals within EC106 questions are bound to be raised as quite why Sensi has refused to come clean about his/her deviant past ? and of course has she / he gone the whole hog?.Elsewhere the news that Sensi was once a man was welcomed by SE8 MEDIA equaility and diversity spokesman Peter Tacthel who issued the following statement…..

….We at SE8 MEDIA embrace the march towards the full inclusion of transgender managers and owners within both the league and wider society, but there is still work to be done. Homophobia and discrimination are still linked to the perception that transgenderists form a tiny minority in society, not helped by the fact that so many remain ‘in the closet’, pretending to be heterosexual. Outing celebrities and well known figures such as Rossi / Rosella increases the number of transsexual role models, and in a stroke improves the perception and makes the process of coming out easier for all strange men who wish to be surgically transformed into horrifically ugly women.

Bellamy wants out as Crewe face mass exodus

According to reports, Welsh striker Craig Bellamy has began legal proceedings to dissolve his contract at Division Two side Crewe Alexandra.

The 31 year old, who can also play out wide, only joined the Gresty Road outfit earlier this season, in a £5m deal from Division 1 side Preston North End, and has gone on to make four starts before suffering a groin injury which has kept him out of action until recently. Crewe manager Sean Fitzpatrick has since dipped into the transfer market to sign Dutchman Dirk Kuyt, who debuted in the 2-1 reverse at home to Watford. Craig Bellamy's agent released this statement to the press earlier today, quoting:

"I have been instructed by my client Mr Craig Bellamy to proceed with legal action permitting the premature termination of my contract at Crewe Alexandra. Upon signing with the club, Mr Bellamy was lead to believe that he would be a first choice regular, but with the recent signing of Dirk Kuyt, this has proved to not be the case. Mr Bellamy wishes to be excused from first team action indefinitely, until a suitable deal can be arranged."

It has been rumoured that Bellamy, infamous for his fiery attitude, wishes to join his hometown club of Cardiff City, who recently hired relative unknown Joe Robinson as a replacement for Kopstar, who departed for Manchester United. Nobody from Cardiff were available to comment on the matter.

Bellamy's imminent departure comes as no surprise, as no fewer than four first teamers were told that their futures lay elsewhere than Gresty Road, with Clemens Fritz and Danny montenegro completing moves to Werder Bremen and Club America respectively, and Lucio and Francesco totti subject of bids from two unnamed English Premier League sides.

PARIS LEAVES CREWE

Paris and the Nutter with putter Bellamy

ced-delts-mc-thumb.jpgCedric Mcmillan Writes....With rumours that the clubs parent company the Northern Business Alliance N/B/A is in financial free-fall and just minutes after the news that unwanted Welsh striker Craig Bellamy is seeking a move away from Gresty road, shocked Crewe fans were left reeling with the news that back room girl Paris Hilton had terminated her contract with the club.

After being heartlessly dumped by her disgraced husband Elliot, Paris the worlds most beautiful woman - Ever, was taken in by kindly Crewe supremo Sean Fitzpatrick who in a spontaneous act of generosity not only provided her and son JC a home, but gave Paris a job as Crewe morale officer. Four months later her life has taken a dramatic twist when after finally tiring of her public humiliation by her ex ,she finally decided to dump the Love rat and to start divorce proceedings. Whilst Paris has remained silent so far, a spokesman for the club tonight issued this statement....

I can confirm that as of this evening , Mrs Paris Hilton requested that her employment was terminated by the club with immediate effect. In keeping with her terms and conditions i can also confirm that the club has received an agreed sum of 300,000 pounds to compensate for departure. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Hilton for her sterling work at the club and to thank her on behalf of the staff and management for all her efforts.

New Man in At Cardiff City

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRfxdr3dneO-F7ejUVFEZLBHdYdEbWtIrY_x8VmIypJ58l5FEbM

Joe Robinson has been appointed the new manager of Cardiff City Football Club. He is the club's 12th manager in just under 12 seasons, and he takes over with the side fighting for survival in Division 2.

Robinson was in the stands last night at Wigan, where he saw his new side torn apart 5-2 by the hosts, in a performance which leaves the Welsh side just 1 point above the drop.

The new manager has inherited a side with the lowest squad value in the whole Division, and Robinson's first game in charge is to host table toppers Sheffield Wednesday.

I'm delighted to have joined a club wit a great history and tradition and very much look forward to working here. We have alot of work to do to keep this side playing Division 2 football for next season.

One of the main issues for Robinson will be Dutch winger Elijero Elia. There has been much interest in the highly rated player and Robinson has however stated his intent to try and keep hold of him. However he has announced he will "trim the fat" off of the squad and bring in some proven quality.

Wanted Man: Elijero Elia

I have been an admirer of Elijero's talent. The boy can become a top top winger. A few managers have told me of their interest, but I don't really want to lose him. In this day and age though money talks. We are cash strapped at this moment in time. So I guess if we get the right amount of money, we may have to let him go. But if the deal doesn't help Cardiff City then he will be staying.

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread

Stalemate at Old Trafford as United fail to impress new boss

Preston North End came away from old Trafford last night with a point, after a 0-0 draw against Manchester United.

The Lilywhites may feel slightly aggrieved at only picking up one point, with the high-flyers being denied on numerous occasions by home goalkeeper Rene Adler. David Villa made his debut for the Red Devils, but was a shadow of the player who had scored 23 goals in 30 starts for Arsenal this season. New Preston signing Jonathan Pitroipa also made his debut (his second for the club after coming on as a late sub.

The main talking point of the match was the yellow cards shown to both Ashley Cole and Glen Johnson. Cole's 5th yellow card of the season came after a late lunge on England striker Wayne Rooney, and will see the former Man Utd defender miss the next league game for Preston, a home game against Man City. Johnson's yellow was more controversial, referee Andy hall showing the defender a yellow card for failing to move back ten yards for the free kick. Manager James Burrow touched on these matters after the game:

"We played well, we expected the Man Utd players to be on a high due to there being a new manager, but we found that they seemed a bit complacent. Ive seen a lot of David Villa this season for both Arsenal and Spain and Ive never seen such a drab performance from him. But that's probably down to nerves at a new club. He'll settle soon and be in amongst the goals again. Ash (Ashley Cole) picked up a booking and will miss the next game, our new signing Fabio Aurelio may have to start on Wednesday. I would have preferred to give him a subs role, but the situation has changed. Johnno (Glen Johnson) also picked up a rather stupid booking. If you're close to five bookings, be a bit more careful, and dont give the ref any chance to book you. All in all, Im encouraged by this performance and on another day, we perhaps could have won."

Preston move up one place to 5th after Everton were thrashed 4-0 in the Merseyside Derby. Man utd stay 8th, but their goal difference advantage over Chelsea has been severly cut, after Chelsea's 6-2 win over Blackburn.

Grimsby show spirit in defeat

Grimsby Town 2 vs 3 Oxford United match review

Grimsby Town slipped to a narrow 2-3 home defeat at the hands of Oxford on Saturday. After their heroics against Hartlepool in midweek the Mariners were looking for a win which could have seen them climb right back into the playoff picture but the game was a step too far as as fellow promotion hopefuls Oxford took the points.

Grimsby boss Steve Thompson stuck with the side who won in midweek meaning recent signings Mark Beevers and Billy Sharp made their home debuts.

The home side stated the game brightly and could have took the lead inside 5 minutes but Francisco Rodriguez saw his superb over head volley go just over the bar. The Mariners wasted another chance two minutes when Javier Hernandez glanced a header just wide of the post. The home fans got tight behind their side and on 14 minutes Billy Sharp came within inches of his first goal for the club but his curling effort went wide of the post.

liverpoolvlilleuefaeuro.jpg

Pierre -Alain Frau got two goals for Oxford before half time

Oxford rode the luck but on 35 minutes they took the lead with their first real effort on goal striker Pierre-Alain FRAU got it latching on two a long ball before drilling the ball past Castellazzi in the Grimsby goal 0-1. Grimsby had the chance to level the scores almost immediately but midfielder Anthony Le Tallac dragged right footed shot wide. Just before half time Oxford doubled their advantage when Pierre-Alain FRAU slotted home a penalty after the referee saw an infringement in the box 0-2. HALF TIME.

philjonesnottinghamfore.jpg

Defender Phil Jones got Grimsby back in it after the break

Steve Thompson must have had harsh words to say to his side at the break and within a minute of the restart Grimsby reduced the deficit on loan defender Phil JONES grabbed his second consecutive goal when his miss hit shot somehow found it's way past an embarrassed Frank Rost in the Oxford goal 1-2. Grimsby had their tails up and completed a fantastic comeback on 52 minutes when Anthony LE TALLEC grabbed an equalizer poking home from a few yards out after a Billy Sharp effort came crashing back off the crossbar 2-2.

philbrownhullcityvstoke.jpg

Thompson celebrates Le Tallac's equalizer

The home fans were going mental in the stands and things nearly got better on 55 minutes but Oxford keeper Rost produced a fine save to deny the home side the lead. Oxford looked rattled by the comeback but gave the home side a warning on 58 minutes when a shot came in but Castellazzi held on to the ball well. Two minutes later and Rost was once again called into action when a 25 yard shot came in with the German seemingly unsighted but somehow the Veteran got his body behind the shot much to the agony of the home fans.

The game looked to be heading for a draw but on 75 minutes the away side grabbed an undeserved winner Brazilian midfielder Rafael CARIOCA produced a moment of pure class to beat two Grimsby defenders before slotting the ball past the onrushing Grimsby keeper to make it 2-3. Grimsby looked shell shocked by that goal but tried in vain to find yet another equalizer but Oxford stood strong and held on to claim all 3 points. FULL TIME 2-3

After the game a gutted Grimsby boss faced the press to give his reaction to the defeat.

" I am absolutely gutted that we have lost the game tonight. We should have been 2 maybe 3 goals up early on in the first half but of finishing let us down then Oxford have a 15 minute spell at the end of the half and we somehow find ourselves 2-0 down at half time.

I had a go at half time and told the boys that we needed an early goal to give us a chance and we started the second half like a team possessed and we could have easily been in front if it wasn't for their keeper. Their winner was a moment of sheer genius from the young boy but we have to ask questions of how he was allowed to run so freely at our defense.

We didn't deserve to get beat today but we have learned that we must start taking more of our chances when they come our way. The fans will be gutted as we all are but the players showed a lot of character and spirit to get back in to the game and i am sure they appreciate that"

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread

Charlton.gif 1-3 4-west-bromwich-albion-678.gif

Oleksander Aliyev
bagged a brace to earn West Brom a vital win in their battle to avoid relegation. The result puts them three points clear of the drop zone with a crucial six-pointer against 18th placed Spurs to come on Wednesday. The score wasn't the best outcome for Charlton who could have jumped into the SMFA Shield positions but they remain fairly comfortable in 14th with some aspirations of European football next season.

The game started slowly with few chances and defences on top. The spark came on the half hour mark when Albion centre-back
Etienne Capoue
curled a sublime effort inside the far post from the edge of the area. Ten minutes later he turned creator with a powerful long range effort that Addicks 'keeper
Heurelho Gomes
could only parry into the path of Aliyev who tucked away the rebound.

49611_jpg_enc.jpg

On the stroke of half-time, Charlton hit back.
Diego Benaglio
fumbled
Javier Pastore
's effort and
Tomás Necid
scored just second goal of the season. On the hour mark the game was tarnished by a silly dive from
Gael Clichy
in an attempt to win a penalty. Referee Frank Graham was not fooled and the Frenchman received a booking for his troubles.

Five minutes later and the Baggies had restored their lead. Aliyev fed off
Piotr Trochowski
's pass and was able to fire home from an acute angle, albeit via a deflection. Another few minutes and Clichy got his marching orders following an inexplicable piece of time-wasting. The home side made changes, bringing on Machado, Leto and Falcao in an attempt to push for some points. The Colombian came close with a long range shot but West Brom held on for the win.

And now, a new feature after a certain person became available...

Andy's Tactical Analysis

508348.jpg

It was a very interesting game with both sides playing a 4231 formation. The away side had the lion's share of the possession which was due to their more measured pace of play and shorter passing leading to fewer chances for Charlton to intercept. West Brom did seem much more attacking though which could be a factor for some wayward shooting on their behalf. The home team's hard tackling led to several yellow cards and a red.

Grimsby name Brady new director of public relations

celebsvisioncharityball.jpg

Grimsby's new director of public relations Karren Brady

Grimsby Town have named Karren Brady their new director of public relations. News broke last week that the controversial former Rochdale Chairwomen was about to take up a position within the club and that has now been confirmed.

Brady who is now in a relationship with Grimsby manager Steve Thompson will be responsible for promoting the clubs image off the field. The Mariners have hit the headlines in recent weeks with the news of Thompson and Brady and it now looks like Brady will use her fame to increase the stature of the Cleethorpes based club even further.

The news is sure to alert the highly respected SE8 media group who currently own division 4 promotion hopefuls Hull City. SE8 owner Francis Frazer has been highly critical of Brady for her part in the media coverage of the recent PCP outbreak claiming that Brady was a snitch and passing on highly confidential details to the press a claim that was never backed up with clear substantial evidence.

Brady is sure to revel in her new role alongside her new man and the profile of Grimsby Town is sure to surge with her appointment.

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread

Transfers a Plenty at Cardiff

Cardiff boss Joe Robinson has been in charge of the Blue Birds for less than 24 hours, however has made major strides in changing the squad. Dutch winger and hot prospect Elijero Elia, will be moving to Crewe Alexandra for a fee of £20million. Also as part of the deal, Cardiff born Craig Bellamy has joined the side and the deal will be made permanent on the 9th of March once his transfer ban is over, a deal which also sees youngster John Guidetti going in the oppostie direction.

CraigBellamyCardiffUnveilin.jpg&sa=X&ei=cNNOTcSEBsawhQevwpyuDg&ved=0CAQQ8wc&usg=AFQjCNG_cmCP4xRTnyQ7WhhG8I59zuDwYg

Blue Bird: Craig Bellamy

As I said this morning, I will only be selling Elijero if it was going to benefit Cardiff City, and the deal we have agreed is fantastic. We will be receiving a high some of money which will help the finances alot, and also be getting in Craig Bellamy, who will add not just only quality to the side, but determination and grit, in which will be a tough run in. The lad is Cardiff born so the passion he shows for the club will no doubt spread amongst the squad.

Cardiff have also agreed a deal which sees Cameroon international, Benoit Assou-Ekotto moving to Goodison Park. In exchange Cardiff will be signing winger Matt Jarvis and defender Criag Cathcart. On top of that, Cardiff have secured the services of Jack Rodwell till the end of the season.

Ins: Matt Jarvis and Craig Cathcart

5116_1281552930.jpg3851_1277414518.jpg

Outs: Elijero Elia and Benoit Assou-Ekotto

I feel we have a great deal here. We are getting two young players who have shown real potential already. Matt Jarvis is a brilliant winger, and will slot right into the side. As for Cathcart, his time will no doubt come in a Cardiff shirt, and will steadily work his way into the starting line up I'm sure. As for Jack Rodwell, cracking player, and will add more quality to the side and will help us immensely for the rest of his season.

As well as these two big deals, Cardiff City are on the verge of completing no less than 26 deals of players leaving Cardiff, and on top of the fee for Elia, generating just under £40million. A huge boost for the finances. And also Robinson has been promised the funds are his to use in the market to keep Cardiff in Division 2

It is an incredible number of players to be selling off in one day yes. But I felt it was necessary. I didn't really want them here, and therefore felt we should off load them now. Add to that we will keep the bank manager happy. But I have been told the money generated will be used on new players.

And in the last few moments it is thought a deal may have been done with Arsenal to bring in Aaron Ramsey on loan for next season, with Argentine youngster Juan Manuel Iturbe moving to the Emirates.

Another deal that I am absolutely delighted with. Aaron is a brilliantly gifted player and to have him here for a seaosn long loan for next season is fantastic. Very chuffed with this deal

Future Loanee: Aaron Ramsey

Expect plenty more deals to be going on at Cardiff City, with many names being banded around, and with the finances being healthier than ever, plenty more business is sure to be done.

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread

A Crazy Knight at Gresty

maninstraightjacket.jpg

Rumours are starting to leak out of Gresty Road regarding the recent behaviour of manager Sean.

The stories say that Sean's recent activity has been a cause for concern to both the Crewe board and to the English F.A., who are both thought to be arranging mental health assesment's.

insane771998.jpg

It is believed that the recent departure of both Hilton and Brady have pushed England's World Cup winning manager over the edge, causing an underlying psychiatric condition to the force it's way to the forefront.

ilfullxfull91080080.jpg

Some of his recent activities include:

Selling nearly all of the first team squad, including Weise, Van Bommel, Lucio, Fritz, Bridge, Montenegro, Assuncao, Totti, Bellamy, and Agger. It is believed that these were the players to be closest to Hilton annd Brady during their time at Gresty Rd.

Spending £15million to bring Matteo Brighi back to the club, after previousy selling him for just £8million.

Spending £20million plus on resigning Elia, a player who has twice failed to earn his stripes at the club.

Going against his decision to sell Simao, feeling that the wingers troubles with Hilton in the past make him a soul mate.

Repeatedly relying on PA Emilia Attias to make decisions on the day to day running of the club.

Continually talking of a fictional world called Anno Domini with such conviction that many believe he considers the land as a reality. In his tales he protrays himself as a brave warrior knight, battling dark forces, and keeping England safe from invasion. the elaboration and detail of which he talks of this place is the largest cause of concern for his friends.

mentalillnessawareness.jpg

Top US specialist Dr. Harleen Quinzel of the Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane, who has previously been hired by the SMFA to assess the sanity of Hull boss Izod, gave her opinion to Nuts magazine, saying:

"Sean appears to be showing signs of a form of regressive personality disorder. He's clearing out everything relating to the two ladies that have caused him severe mental distress, and seems to be going to extreme measures to bring back things from the past that make him feel comfortable - such as Elia and Brighi. His current inability to make the decisions he used to make on a daily basis is also worrying, and I personally feel that this, coupled with his regression could be an early sign of a severe mental illness, most likely a Schizoaffective disorder. This diagnoses seems all the more likely given this fictional land he seems to be spending all his time in.

How this will affect him long term I cannot say, psychiatrists aren't able to predict, accurately, what each individual outcome will be. Recovery is possible with all types of mental distress but, unfortunately, people sometimes don't recover.

I do however seriously doubt that he will be compos mentis in time for the upcoming divorce proceedings, and even if he is forced to testify, the accuracy of his statements may leave a lot to be desired."

Brady aims broadside at SE8 and Winston

karenbradywellchildawar.jpg

Brady speaks out against SE8 and Winston

New Grimsby director of public relations Karren Brady has spoke of her joy at finally getting back into full time employment after leaving her post of Chairwomen at Rochdale. The 41 year old who is currently dating Mariners boss Steve Thompson is charged with the task of growing the Grimsby Town brand off the field and with her connections throughout the footballing world many predict that the London born Milf will succeed.

Brady when questioned on her new role said.

"I am delighted to be back in football full time and with such a great club. The job is one i have wanted to do for a long time and i feel that Grimsby Town has a lot of potential to grow as a business"

One reporter asked Brady if she was looking forward to working with her new love and how that would effect their relationship she replied.

" I am massively looking forward to working with Steve. We get on so well and we both want to see Grimsby placed well and truly on the footballing map. Me and Steve being an item is sure to court some extra attention but our relationship in work is separate to the one we share when we go home together. We are a team and it will be strictly professional when at work"

philbrowndeepdale.jpg

Brady and Thompson remain professional

Another member of the gathered press asked Brady what she thought of the SE8 media group who currently own Hull City and the current tigers manager Jimmy "Self inflicted" Winston. Both have been rather critical of Brady in the past.

frazerp.jpg

Hull Owner Francis Frazer took a liking to Brady

" That whole Charade they run over that way is a joke and i am becoming sick and tired of their endless lies. What makes them think that their opinions are so important. They have relented on an endless campaign to bring my name into disrepute and i will not stand for that.

The real reason that they continue to try and bring me down is because i rejected Mr Frazer's (Hull City's Chairman) Advances. I remember him sending me an email sometime ago now asking if i would be interested in a Ménage à trois with Mr Frazer and Hull City manager Jimmy Winston i was utterly disgusted by the proposition and immediately declined.

Mr Frazer threatened me and said he would bring down my whole world. I have been threatened with Concrete boots. and i also once received a catalog containing a variety of different coffins with a note saying pick your new home.

Mr Frazer and his cockney mob don't scare me and i thought all the press should know that he and his organization are not all what they are craked up to be"

Notts County vs Leeds United Shield Final Preview

charity-shield.jpg

The English Shield which both teams are competing for.

In what is one of the biggest days in the 106 Calendar,Notts County play Leeds United tonight in the English Shield final, with both clubs in 12th place in there respective divisions, tonight offers a chance to put disappointing seasons behind them, with Leeds having the stronger side and been the in form side out of the two Leeds are the bookies favourites for the tie.

But with Notts County possessing players such as Alexis Sanchez,Raul Meireles and Adriano a win for the side from Nottingham is very much a possibility, however Irenusz Jelen,Luke Young,Okenayci Apam and Phillip Bagfrede are all cup tied and therefore will miss tonights final,Leeds have no injuries or suspensions and therefore have a full squad to choose from.

The game which is been played at Wembley is expected to a largely defensive display with both sides struggling for goals in the League,as Leeds have hit the net 36 times whereas County have scored 41 goals this season, still with silverware to compete for it will be interesting to see if either side throws caution to the wind and go all out for a Shield win.

These are the expected Lineups for tonight game.

Leeds United:

Landreau

Angel Paolo Cannavaro Lombearts Canella

Biglia Makoun Ledesma

Marlos

Kerzhakov Sychev

Notts County:

Cesar

Berezutsky Dante Moisander

Bernardello

Bentley Meireles Fernandes Sanchez

Re: English Championship 106 - Transfer/Gossip thread

Meireles hints at County exit

Portuguese international midfielder Raul meireles has hinted at a possible exit from English Shield finalists Notts County, barely hours before the Shield final with Leeds United.

The 27 year old has made a good impression on the County crowd after his switch from Derby County earlier this season, scoring three times in the league and playing 3 times in his side's run to the Wembley showpiece tonight. However when interviewed by the League Paper, the highly rated midfielder stated that he didnt invisage his future being at Meadow Lane forever:

"I am looking forward to tonights game against Leeds. This is an opportunity for my first piece of silverware in England. The team has played well to get to the final, as no-one will have expected Notts County to reach the final. However, I plan to use tonight as a 'shop window' of sorts. I have been playing in the Third Division for six straight seasons now, and that doesnt look like changing any time soon while at Notts County."

The reporter brought up the possibility of a summer switch to Preston North End, after it was reported that the North-West side had reopened talks over a move:

"Preston would satisfy me very much. It's whether I would fit in there, as they have a few good players in midfield. Mr Burrow is one of the legends of the game, and you only have to look at his achievements at Preston to see that he is one of the best managers in the country. I havent heard anything about talks resuming, a deal was in place in principle but then the talks stopped. My immediate future is with Notts County, but who knows where I will be in the future."

Meireles joins former Preston midfielder David Bentley in the County midfield for tonights game with Leeds. The England midfielder has found appearances hard to come by at Meadow Lane, and will be using tonights game at Wembley as an opportunity to prove he deserves more than a bit-part role at the club.

English Championship 106 - Under-23 Youth Cup (Season 12/13)

Round 2

Crewe Alexandra 4-2 Sheffield United

T.WALCOTT 20......... A.TEIXEIRA 16

V.KADLEC 36.........D.N'GOG 76

S.BELL 75, 88...........................

Stefan Bell - Crewe's shining light

Crewe's youngster showed why the club have invested so much in their youth policy with an outstanding victory over a Sheffield United side that should, on paper, have strolled to victory. Established stars such as Anderson, Pjanic, Ngog and Marcelo threatened to put a premature end to Crewe's Under-23 Youth Cup campaign, but the performance of a lifetime by young German defender Stefan Bell. The highly impressive 19 year old showed why Sean invested £1.4mil in him 3 months ago with an immense defensive performance on top of his two match winning goals.

A delusional Sean posing for the press before the game

Unfortunately the thousands of Crewe fans in attendance were distracted by the antics of their manager Sean, who turned up for the game in fancy dress, and was constantly heard muttering about needing new chainmail.

This was yet another example of Sean's current decline in mental health, with rumours that police had to be called to escort him from The KC Stadium early Sunday morning, after he alledgedly turned up demanding an audience with The Beast of many Genders, whilst waving his sword around.
