Benton has managed to get 1 transfer and 1 loan deal.

He managed to negotiate with the Manchester United manager Dan Warmsley, and has managed to get bakary Sagna on loan for the season.

BakarySagna.jpg

Bakary Sagna, Joined Santos Laguna on a season long loan.

Also adding to his squad that he was panicking about being thin, Benton has secured a fee for Luciano Galletti. This is going to cost Benton £18M and the departure of Rafael Figueroa. This isnt adding numbers to his squad but its adding quality to the squad Benton claimed.

Bournemouth loose in the 4th round of the English shield to stoke. The game went to penalties ater Bournemouth held premiership opposition to a 2-2 draw.

On a happier note, Bournemouth make a a bigger gap between the chasing pack, by recording another win and there closest challengers, who lie in second and third both dropped points :)

Zenit beat Dinamo Moskva 3-1 to set up a final match against unmanaged Saturn. :o Spartak next up in the league so need to win that to close the gap to 1 point. Through in the SMFA cup long ago so a pack of spuds will be sent out on Friday. :P Could do with some loans, but I might manage. I have so far. :o

Spartak's new manager Nasir Ali got his first win of the season as his team cruised past a weak and unmanaged Krylia Sovetov. It was a highly anticipated match as the match saw Italian striker Alberto Gilardino make his debut for the club as he arrived in exchange for Del Piero.

And the Italian impressed straight away as he came close numerously in the first half.

But the match would go 0-0 into half time as Spartak didn't look very threatening. But the second half saw a new team perform as Alberto Gilardino struck twice in 14 minutes to give Spartak the lead they'd been waiting for .

And a few minutes later, Igor Titov wrapped up the victory with a brilliant goal!

Spartak still at fourth and will face second placed Zenit St. Petersburg on Wednesday. A match which striker John Carew will miss:(

Close Win For Lazio

Zewlakow's winner in the 83rd minute was enough to give Lazio the 3 points in a tough encounter with Chievo. It took 69 minutes before the deadlock was broken though, with Pandev - who is subject of a bid from Roma - getting the goal. Pellissier equalised for Chievo 6 minutes later.

Lazio 1-0 Chievo - Goran PANDEV (69)

Lazio 1-1 Chievo - Sergio PELLISSIER (75)

Lazio 2-1 Chievo - Michal ZEWLAKOW (83)

Lazio remain in 7th place, but are now a point behind Udinese who slipped to 6th. Lazio are just 6 points off a SMFA Cup place, but the priority is a top 8 spot, and Lazio have a just a 3 point cushion over Palermo in 9th.

Santos Laguna Vs. Cruz Azul

SantosLagunaHomeTop.gif 2-1 CruzAzulAway.gif

Bentons Santos Laguna, are starting to look comfortable under his outfit in the Mexican Division 1. With a 2 goals to one victory at home to Cruz Azul, a side that are doing very good in the league.

"My team have shown they are capable to occupy that 1st place now, beating every team around that area, but due to the position I got the team in and the games we have left, I dont think that could be possible. But its still extremely important that we keep playing for results and try and finish as high up as possible."

The goals came from Tomasso Rocchi (39, 83) and Vincenzo Montella (2).

Bentons "Deadly Strike Force", is performaning to its reputation, with Martins scoring 2 goals in 3 games, and Rocchi scoring 4 goals in 3 games. thats 6 goals in 6 games, just from the front 2.

RochiPic.jpg

Rocchi, scored a double against Cruz Azul, 4 goals in 3 games.

"This is an amazing sign for our team, it shows we can score goals, now what we need to do, is Bolster the defence to cut down on conceeding, and beef up the midfield to supply our front 2 even more chances of improving their impressive record."

Transfer News

Benton has now shown great interest in Goran Pandev of Lazio, this being because he plans to change formation to a 3-4-1-2, after he has aquired 3 quality CBs and adequate cover.

"I am keen to get Pandev over to Santos Laguna by the end of this week, he would be an excellent addition, and it will perfect one side of my team sheet, and I can focus fully on improving th other side."

Palermo News

117_1198417095.gif

After reaching the semi final in the Italian cup competition Sam Pooley was hoping that his side could recreate there cup form in the league. Between the cup quarter final against Modena and the semi final against high flying league two side Tornio were four league games, three of which have already been played.

117_1198417095.gifPalermo 0-1 Roma 123_1192673039.gif

Immediately after the cup success was a tough trip at home against a well organised Roma squad. Although the cup win couldn't guide Palermo to three points even though Palermo had more shots and shots on target. Despite the increased shots Palermo couldn't fine the back of the net, while Italian hit man Francesco Totti could. And Totti's 51st minute goal into the bottom corner was all that was needed to separate the two teams as Roma left the Renzo Barbera with all three points.

After the 1-0 defeat to Roma, Palermo faced Chievo away from home. And it was in this game they started to show some of there cup form. Forward De Melo Tulio opened the scoring on 22 minutes but that was quickly wiped out a minute later through a wonder strike from Marcolini which went in off the post. The sides went into the break level but in the second half goals from youngster Marko Arnautovic and pre season signing Dennis Rommedahl secured all three points for Palermo, to lift them for the tough clash against Inter Milan.

After the impressive win against Chevio Palermo faced one of there toughest tasks of the season, against second placed Inter Milan. Despite being second placed on pretty much all statistic fronts Palermo won the statistic that counts. The first half contained no goals but in the second half De Mulo Tulio and Dennis Rommedahl both scored there second in two games to give Sam's Palermo side an historic win against Inter Milan, to lift them to 9th place in the table after a slow start.

Manchester United

Manchester United's European campaign came to an abrupt end tonight despite a comfortable 2 - 0 win over Spanish side Villarreal. Bordeaux romped passed River Plate 5 - 1 to gain access into the knockout stages at the cost of United who had hoped the French side would stumble and only manage a point at home but it was not to be...

United will no focus on recovering the top spot in the league and several top players have been sent out on loan for the remainder of the season unless they are needed to cover injuries + bookings.

125_1189947521.gifSampdoria 1-8 Palermo 117_1198417095.gif

After two wins on the bounce Palermo went into this game full of confidence but no one could predict the dramatic outcome of this game. Five of Palermo's goals came in the first half while the other three came in the second. Sampdoria's Carlinhos Bala scored the consolation goal deep into the second half when Palermo were already 7-0 ahead anyhow. The main goalscorer for Palermo was Fabrizio Miccoli who had a very impressive four goals on the night, two either side of half time. The out of form striker doubled his previous tally of league goals on one night, Sam is hoping this performance may bring the best out of his (eventually) and he may start bringing the goals in. The other four goals came from Lucio Fernandao, Henrique Fabio Simplicio, Fabio Liverani and Federico Balzeretti, all of whom had a solitary goal to there name. This result was even more of an impressive feat because Sampdoria played a goalkeeper in goal and the majority of there players in correct positions. Sam stated "We couldn't image a more confident way to go into the cup final on Monday night."

128_1195090174.gifTorino 0-3 Palermo 117_1198417095.gif

After the dominating 8-1 victory in the league Palermo turned there attention to the Italian Cup semi final against Muntasir Tailor's Torino side. Both sides were in good form as Torino had won there previous two league games, while Palermo had won there previous three league games. The opening goal of the game came late into the first half, on 38 minutes to be exact. A clearing header only went as far as Palermo left midfielder Fabio Caserta who hit a stunning first time volley into the roof of the net, to give Sam's side a one goal advantage over his fellow forumer. As the sides came out for the second half they knew the next goal was vital, if it went to Palermo is was game over but if it went to Torino it was game on, and it went to Palermo. Lucio Fernandao received the ball on the edge of the box after a smart corner and curled the ball around the unsighted keeper. Sam Pooley goes mad on the touchline believing he has the game won!! And ten minutes later when Cesare Bovo slotted home a superb solo effort Sam Pooley was guaranteed his side would progress to the final. After the game Sam Pooley had this to say "I am very pleased to reach the cup final in my first year in charge. This is the only peice of silver ware me and the boys have a chance of winning and against league two side Livorno we should fancy are chances. The fans wait in anticipation for the game kick off, 8:00pm, on the 17th of November."

Santos Laguna - Latest Scores.

Monterrey Vs Santos Laguna

Division 1 - Sat 1 Nov 2008

MonterreyHomeTop.gif 1-1 SantosLagunaAwayTop.gif

Bentons team had a tough away fixture at Monterrey, who occupy 2nd place in the league table. Bentons team were confident they would get something out of the game, especially with the confidence boost they got from theyre convincing 3 game win streak. But Santos got off to a fairly weak start allowing Monterrey to pile on the pressure and create dynamite chances that Benton was lucky he didnt get punished for. He did eventually get punishment, on the 22nd minute. A mixup in the midfield allowing Felipe Baloy to run through and hit a piledriver into the back of the net.

Benton got his team wound up for the second have, begging them to come out all guns blazing, and thats what they did. Santos were creating chances everywhere, unlucky not to slot 2 or 3 of them home. Just as it was looking bright for Bentons Laguna, a moment of madness came from Tomasso Rocchi. After his superb form in his first 4 matches for Bentons side, Rocchi was sent off for diving and play acting. This sis set the teams confidence down, but not for long. Just 7 minutes after Rocchis departure, Santos Lagunas new signing Angelos Basinas takes advantage of a dubious offside decision and slots one home for the visitors.

Benton was delighted that his team managed to hang on to a 1-1 draw away from home, with the circumstances they were under; "Im extremely happy that my side, despite going 1-0 down and then going 1 man down, we managed to get a goal. It might not be the best of goals, but what im happy with is that my team managed to find it somewhere. If we can keep digging out points in these tough away fixtures, I will be delighted!"

Bentons side next face America, at their monsterous stadium, another tough fixture, but Benton wants them to carry on from the great form they have recently created.

Transfer News

Unluckily, a few hours after their game against Monterrey, where Felipe Baloy scored, Santos Laguna managed to complete their £6.6M deal for him. If only it had been done a couple of hours earlier, he wouldnt have been present at Monterrey to score against Santos Laguna.

The Bayern Leverkusen manager has jsut recently accepted a bid of £2M + Rafael Figueroa + Francessco Torres for Wes Brown. A deal that Benton seeks to be worth it, although he is letting go of 2 very important players from his squad to let in Brown to bolster the defence.

Benton: "Im sad we never managed to get Baloy before our fixture with his old team, and we paid the price for it dearly. As for Wes Brown, Im also a bit depressed to show both Rafael Figueroa + Francessco Torres, but Im just delighted to have Wes Brown included in our outfit.

Im sure that now with the defence I have in place I can concentrate on the midfield now."

Spartak Regain SMFA Shield Place!

Dinamo Moskva 0-3 Spartak Moskva

Alberto GILARDINO (67)

Russian giants Spartak Moskva bounced back after their narrow defeat to Zenit St Petersburg last week. With over 2 thirds of the season, new manager Nasir Ali simply wanted to concentrate on qualifying for Europe.

No changed were made to the squad which lost to Zenit, and the man to watch in the game was Spartak new by Alberto Gilardino.

And the away side did just what was expected of them beating fierce league rivals 3-0 as they jumped ahead on the table.

Pantelis KAFES (30). Malik FATHI (44) and Alberto GILARDINO (67) all scored to help secure the three points and edge closer to SMFA Shield safety. New boy Gilardino has really settled in well as he scored his third goal in his third appearance, the striker also has 2 man of the match awards and 2 assists to his name.

Wes Brown Deal Blocked

Bentons accepted bid for Wes Brown, consisting of £2M + Rafael Figueroa + Francesco Torres was blocked earlier today.

Manager Chris Benton is furious at this decision but keeping it to himself, he has put in a new bid, of £5M + Francesco Torres + Omar Mares. If this is accepted, this will leave Figueroa to partner up with Wes Brown in defence.

But its all down to the chairman and what he "feels" is a good deal.

Palermo Sign a LB!

Sam Pooley has been very quiet in the transfer market as of late and hasn't made a new signing for over a month, but last night he managed to bring a new player to the club. Before this morning Palermo had 6 center midfield players, yes 6!! Four of them were rated 88 while the other two were rated 90. Sam wanted to shift one of the 88 rated players to bring a new player to strengthen the squad and he did that by exchanging Garcia Gabri along with 2 million pounds for Christian Schulz. Sam didn't mind losing Gabri as he was one of the many 88 rated center midfielders and wasn't really in his future plans. While the two LB Palermo previously had were rated 88 and 86 but now they have an 88 and another 88. Of course they still have the 86 rated LB but Sam is now looking to sell him. Schulz is 25 years of age and like previously stated he is rated at a healthy 88. The German can also play in the center of midfield but won't really be needed there with Palermo's current strength there. He has signed a four year contract worth £21.25 thousand per turn.

Manchester United

Manchester United last night confirmed the signing of 26 year old Antonio Cassano from Sampdoria for the fee of £18million, Dan Walmsley was delighted with his new signing. 'To add such a great young forward to my squad without having to sacrifice someone is very pleasing.'

The deal was however funded by the double sales of Christiano Lucarili and Cesar Arzo for a combined fee of £20million. Lucarili had fallen out of favour with the Old Trafford boss following a recent rating deduction.

United have also revealed they are hot on the tail of an unnamed player to bolster their squad again with a deal likely to be concluded within the next 2 days...
