Colonel Light 645
Re: Gold Championship 22 Match Report / Transfers Thread Lucky enough to pick up Liverpool on Friday morning. Credit to the last manager Ben Reado the squad has plenty of quality to work with. The club's trophy cabinet is bare though so priority no.1 is to add some silverware while I'm here. Anything really. Was a difficult first selection and we chose to put out a makeshift XI for last night's match in order to freshen up some players and as expected we copped a 6-0 smashing from Golden's Manchester United. Ouch, bad timing. It may take a while for the boys to click into a totally new style of play but when we do we should be pretty competitive. Have loan listed a bunch of guys that are maybe useful for small clubs. Also need to swap Asamoah and Lucas for Wingers or AM's of similar age and potential.

Barry MUFC 5,216
Re: Gold Championship 22 Match Report / Transfers Thread Man Utd 6-0 Liverpool Old Trafford Att: 76,212 Manchester United managed by: Barry Golden Liverpool managed by: Luke Potter Referee: Phil Crossley MoM: Cristiano Ronaldo Rooney celebrates making it 2-0. United destroy the rivals! A rested Liverpool side braved Old Trafford yesterday to the shock of the Liverpool fans. New manager Luke Potter insisted that the team be rested following a number of games without rest. The Liverpool fans cried out for them to play another match before being rested with an easy period to come. United were not going to be complacent following the news and went out as if it were any other Liverpool side they were playing. There were talented individuals in this team as well. Good enough to put up a fight against United who slipped up last week to a poorer Sheffield Wednesday team. But United came out victorious in a game United fans will never let their neighbours forget. Man Utd play Middlesbrough in the English Shield round 2 on Monday. This game was met by a terrific atmosphere from inside Old Trafford with both sets of fans exchanging chants early on. Less than twenty seconds in Yossi Benayoun crossed dangerously for Vucinic who missed his cross by an inch when a touch was needed to give the away side the lead. United responded soon after and Evra played a slick one two with Ryan Giggs and the Frenchman fired the ball into the top corner to send the roof off Old Trafford four minutes in. Ronaldo was full of tricks inside the first ten minutes and he hit a powerful shot from thirty yards which Pepe Reina saved expertly from. Man Utd were looking dangerous and in the sixteenth minute Ronaldo pulled the ball back to the edge of the area from the by line and Wayne Rooney was there to rasp home the ball into the top corner to give United a dream start. Gago hit a spectacular twenty yard shot which Van Der Sar saved smartly from as Liverpool looked for a goal back. In stoppage time at the end of the first half, Wayne Rooney turned Subotic and hit a curling shot from twenty yards which went inches wide of the Liverpool goal. Half Time: Manchester United 2-0 Liverpool. United dominated the second half completely. Liverpool were given no chance of a survival early on when Yossi Benayoun was giving a red card for a second bookable offence five minutes after the restart. Yuri Zhirkov dashed down the left hand side for United and his cross was nodded into the net by Cristiano Ronaldo for his third in as many games to send the Stretford End wild. Ronaldo could have added another goal to his tally moments later but this time Reina saved expertly to deny the Portuguese his fourth of the season. In the seventy third minute Paul Scholes rasped a thirty yard shot which Reina found too hot to handle and the ball fell to Wayne Rooney who finished which gave United a four goal lead. United won a corner which Ryan Giggs swung in to meet the head of the Serbian giant Nemanja Vidic who smashed home a header for 5-0. United could not believe their luck at beating their rivals so comfortably. Paul Scholes picked up the ball twenty five yards out and the former England international smashed a cracking shot off the crossbar with the ball landing out on the right win with Ronaldo. The Portuguese then crossed for Tevez who controlled it brilliantly and the Argentine turned in out of the defence before slotting passed the desperate dive of Pepe Reina to give United a 6-0 victory in stoppage time. Full Time: Manchester United 6-0 Liverpool. Nick Justice

United progress to the third round! Manchester United continued their impressive form this season with a thrilling 3-2 win at home to Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup second round. Manchester United face Everton away in the league on Wednesday evening. Early on United looked comfortable on the ball. Shaun Wright-Phillips then raced down the right wing and crossed for Frazier Campbell who netted from eight yards, 1-0 five minutes in. Five minutes later Darren Gibson made it 2-0 to the hosts, hitting a powerful shot from twenty yards following a fantastic run. Van Der Sar pulled off a double save as Middlesbrough looked to get back into the game. Michael Owen was denied a goal by the brilliant reflexes of Toldo in the Middlesbrough net but the Englishman made it 3-0 in the thirtieth minute with a toe-poke from inside the area. Things were looking easy for United with the game finished inside the first half hour. Or so they thought, Marvin Emnes made it 3-1 with a scrappy shot which trickled over the line. Half Time: Manchester United 3-1 Middlesbrough. United passed the ball around in a scrappy second half and Rafael’s cross was cleared away in the best chance of the opening twenty five minutes of the second half. Marvin Emnes broke down the right wing and his crossed was turned into the net by United right back Rafael to make the score 3-2 with fifteen minutes remaining. Seb Hines hit a cross across the box and the ball needed a touch to turn it into a goal as Middlesbrough pressed for an equaliser. Frazier Campbell shot over from twenty yards as he looked for a second goal. Michael Owen shot over the bar as the ball landed perfectly for him six yards out but he could not find the goal late on. Full Time: Manchester United 3-2 Middlesbrough.

Manchester United remain just two points off Chelsea in the race for the Premier League title. Manchester United overturned Everton at Goodsion Park in a thrilling encounter. Manchester United will play Reading at home on Saturday. Everton began this game in fantastic fashion. They looked determined to dent United’s title hopes as Oscar Cardozo hit a stunning low drive which Van Der Sar parried and the Dutch goalkeeper saved from Di Maria straight after. The Everton fans were full of energy after that and the stadium was buzzing. Nine minutes in and it was a deserved 1-0 to Everton. Marouane Fellaini beat Vidic and Evra before rifling a low shot into the bottom corner. Stephen Ireland nearly made it 2-0 to the hosts but fired over the bar from six yards. It was 2-0 to Everton soon after, Fellaini’s shot smacked back off the crossbar and Donadel was on hand to finish the ball into the empty net. Goodison Park was electric. In the twenty fifth minute, United pulled a goal back, Nemanja Vidic lobbed Howard from inside the box. Wayne Rooney broke clear of the defence as he looked to get the equaliser against his former side but Howard saved when it was needed, to the joy of the home support. Angel Di Maria shot inches wide for Everton a minute later. United did make it 2-2 before half time, Carlos Tevez superbly volleyed past Tim Howard and the United fans went wild. A minute later and the comeback was complete. Yuri Zhirkov hit an astonishing thirty yard shot which sailed into the top corner to the delight of the United staff and fans. Half Time: Everton 2-3 Manchester United. Ronaldo nearly added another minutes after the restart but his shot was saved by the reflexes of Tim Howard. Oscar Cardozo broke clear of the defence but Van Der Sar tackled him at the last to the frustration of the Everton faithful. Cardozo should have equalised in the seventy fifth minute but blazed horribly over the bar from ten yards. United made sure of the points in the eighty fifth minute with old Everton boy Wayne Rooney beating the defence and the offside trap before smashing the ball into the top corner when one on one with Howard. Full Time: Everton 2-4 Manchester United.

United halted by Reading! Manchester United slipped to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Premier League strugglers Reading at Old Trafford yesterday in their quest to stop Chelsea’s domination in the EPL. Toja could have opened the scoring for the visitors early on but his shot went just wide. Hahnemann denied Rooney a goal with a fine save before Yuri Zhirkov lobbed over the bar in a dull first half. Ronaldo tested Hahnemann early in the second half with a fine shot but the American was equal to it. United were desperate for a goal but they couldn’t find one. Nemanja Vidic was cautioned when he went down in the area but replays showed there was a case for a penalty. Late on Cristiano Ronaldo hit a shot narrowly wide as the game finished 0-0. United now trail Chelsea by four points and try to close the gap away at the Bridge next Wednesday but face West Brom in the Carling Cup round 3 away on Monday night first. Still in with a chance of winning the Mexican Cup as well, with the quarter-final on Monday against Santos Laguna. Really would be better to have a break in the middle of the season for these smaller leagues, instead of having to wait for another 4 leagues games as well as the World Cup. Far too long before the next game if your not in the Cup.

United Lift The Cup! After a long season it is finally over. Barry Golden took charge at Old Trafford hoping to knock Chelsea off their perch. Chelsea did get knocked off their perch, but it wasn’t the Old Trafford outfit who were the ones celebrating. Liverpool topped the table at final whistle of the final games with Arsenal in second. Chelsea finished level on points with United with only goal difference letting Chelsea finish in third. Incredibly, only 6 points separated 1st from 4th. But Manchester United fans had the last laugh, beating Chelsea in the Cup Final in the final competitive match of the season in England. The atmosphere before the match was electric. Both sets of fans were hungry for a piece of silverware after both sides frustrating seasons. As the game began a huge roar went up and the players were hungry for success. Less than a minute in, Carlos Tevez shot inches wide from thirty yards for Man Utd. Cristiano Ronaldo’s cross for United was deflected and Petr Cech had to punch the ball clear of the six yard box. Dimitar Berbatov headed inches over for Chelsea after Florent Malouda’s brilliant cross. After a spell of 15 minutes of possession and good defending, Chelsea took the lead. Dirk Kuyt beating the offside trap and sliding the ball into the net, Chelsea 1-0 Man Utd. A minute later and Paul Scholes’ shot was spilled by Cech and Tevez somehow smashed the ball over from six yards. United equalised in the 38th minute when Ronaldo’s cross met the head of Patrice Evra who nodded the ball into the net, a rare headed goal from the Frenchman. Nemanja Vidic shot wide from a good position before just before the interval. Half Time: Chelsea 1-1 Man Utd. Early in the second half, Petr Cech was called upon to make a stunning save from United new boy Fernando Torres, reaching his fierce shot before it nestled in the net. Torres was the main man for United in the early stages in the second half, shooting wide from a good position moments later. Florent Malouda had a great chance to give the Londoners the lead but shot over the bar from six yards, his frustration was shown. Gonzalo Castro was brought down in the area but the ref waved play on despite replays showing that the United full back had a case. Michael Ballack’s thirty yard strike was tipped over from the brilliant Van Der Sar, 69 minutes in. Manchester United were keeping possession well and Yuri Zhirkov broke down the left for United and his cross was met by the brilliant Carlos Tevez, who headed the ball into the far corner, Chelsea 1-2 Man Utd 79 minutes in. For the last ten minutes, Chelsea piled forward looking for an equaliser. Yaya Toure’s cross raced across the face of the goal with only a touch needed. With three minutes left, Tevez broke free for Man Utd and skipped past Cech but somehow shot wide of the target with the goal gaping. But Manchester United held on for a famous win, lifting the English Cup. Full Time: Chelsea 1-2 Man Utd.
