United Pick Up First Win Of The Season

0,,10364~3284404,00.gif0-1 manchesterunitedbadge.jpg

Manchester United came away from Home Park with all three points yesterday, despite having 18 shots at Plymouth's goal. Though they enjoyed much of the possession, United struggled to make it count. Harvey made numerous changes from the team that drew with Atletico on Monday night - Edwin Van Der Sar was the only man to keep his place in the starting XI. Darren Fletcher and Carlos Tevez both featured in their last games for the club, and have now joined Bayern Munich in exchange for Franck Ribery. Luca Toni wasn't fit enough to make his debut for the club, so Wayne Rooney partnered Tevez up front. Scholes and Carrick played in the middle while Ryan Giggs was used down the left, despite being told by his manager he would be used more centrally this season. The usual back four of Brown, Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra began in defence.

Edwin Van Der Sar

Brown ---- Vidic ---- Ferdinand ---- Evra

Fletcher ---- Scholes ---- Carrick ---- Giggs

Rooney ---- Tevez

The first half ended goalless but United created more of the chances. Ferdinand, Scholes and Giggs all had good chances but failed to hit the target. It was eventually Giggs who broke the deadlock in the 61st minute. A spectacular left footed effort from distance flew past Damir Kahriman and into the top corner. United saw the rest of the match off to take Harvey's first three points as manager in a match that was more comfortable than the scoreline suggested.

As well as picking up his first three points, Harvey has also been busy in the transfer market. Darren Fletcher, Anderson and Carlos Tevez have all joined German giants Bayern Munich, in a deal which sees Luca Toni, Franck Ribery, Jose Sosa and Toni Kroos join the Red Devils. A total of 25 youngsters have also joined the club's youth team, and will be hoping to break into the first team in the coming years.

Up next for United is one of the biggest games of the season - the Manchester derby. The fierce rivalry between the two clubs always makes for interesting viewing, and the fans will be hoping their teams can give them the bragging rights in the city until they meet again. City, who lost to Norwich City last night, had a mid table finish last season but history tends to mean nothing when these two Lancashire teams meet.

United Finally In Good Performance Under New Manager Harvey!

Toni ---- Rooney

Manchester United came away from White Hart Lane with a 4-0 victory and the three points last night in what their manager described as "their first good performance" since he has taken over at Old Trafford. The title contenders bounced back from their shock 3-1 defeat at the hands of Leicester City to move up to 6th with 7 games gone.

Both teams made good starts to the match and had chances to take the lead. Darren Bent had the first opening but he failed to keep his header down. Ricardo Quaresma went close for United with 10 minutes on the clock, when his snapshot produced a fine save from Heurelho Gomes. Tottenham striker Fraizer Campbell almost came back to haunt his old side but his left footed effort was dragged wide of Van der Saar's post. Gareth Bale then had yet another chance for the home side but failed to connect on the rebound. Man United then suddenly came to life, when a piece of genius from Wayne Rooney almost had them in the lead. His delicate chip had Gomes beaten all ends up but Michael Dawson somehow managed to clear off the line. It was eventually new signing Luca Toni who got the first goal of the game with a fine volley from outside the area. It was Toni's third goals in three games for his new club and he was already becoming a favourite with the United fans. The goal was just what the away team needed and a flurry of chances followed. First, Rooney almost latched on to a through ball from Carrick but Gomes was quick off his line. Franck Ribery, another signing from Bayern Munich, then had his low shot parried by the increasingly impressive Gomes. It was infact the other winger, Ricardo Quaresma who doubled United's lead on 40 minutes. The Portugal international lashed home after good work from Ribery. The Red Devils went in to the break 2-0 up and looked good value for their lead.

They picked up where they left off in the second half and could have extended their lead further had it not been for Heurelho Gomes. The Dutch keeper couldn't do anything about the third, though. Wayne Rooney darted past two defenders and powered low into the corner for his third goal of the season. The goal of the game was yet to come, however. Just after the hour mark, Franck Ribery let fly from 30 yards out, and despite Gomes' best efforts, he was unable to stop the ball flying into the top corner. United controlled the rest of the match, with centre backs Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand both having chances to get on the scoresheet. The 4-0 win was more than enough for United, though, and they can now head in to their English Shield Round 4 match at Huddersfield in good spirits.

League leaders Manchester United were lucky to escape with a point at Old Trafford last night as they drew 3-3 in an entertaining match with bitter rivals Liverpool. The Merseysiders were 2-1 in front at half time but were pegged back by a quickfire double from Wayne Rooney. Xabi Alonso equalised for the away side just before 70 minutes. The result means that Man United stay top of the league but only on goal difference due to Chelsea's 3-2 win against Tottenham. Liverpool stay 9th in the league table as they approach the half way point of the season.

The Red Devils made a lacklustre start to the game, failing to find any sort of rhythm and unable to string three passes together. Adversely it was Liverpool who were making the early going. First, Xabi Alonso was gifted with an open goal but he inexplicably blasted wide. Then fellow Spaniard Fernando Torres had another chance to put his side ahead but his volley completely missed Van Der Sar's goal. Their goal did eventually come as early as the fifth minute through an unlikely source. Steven Gerrard's long range shot was parried into the path of Martin Skrtel who was left with the simplest of tasks to tap home. Liverpool had United rattled and they continued to pile on the pressure. Dirk Kuyt had done all the hard work but he couldn't finish his run with a finish to boot, and then Samuel Eto'o hit the crossbar with a powerful header. Despite dominating the early stages of the game, Liverpool were pegged back on 12 minutes thanks to a seemingly non-existent defence and Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov. The equaliser didn't deter Liverpool though and they were soon back in front. After a relatively quiet five minutes, a long ball from Jamie Carragher wasn't dealt with by Nemanja Vidic and Fernando Torres controlled well before finishing with ease. Gerrard, Eto'o and Kuyt then had chances to double the lead but all missed the target. A poor beginning for United seemed to be behind them and they started to counter Liverpool's attacking play. Michael Carrick's acrobatic bicycle kick had Reina scrambling, before Owen Hargreaves tested Reina's agility for the second time. Referee Rob Shoebridge blew the whistle after 45 minutes with Liverpool looking comfortable.

Whatever was said in the United dressing room at half time certainly did the trick. United came out looking like a totally different team and were back on level terms just three minutes in. Everton supporter Wayne Rooney found himself in space and made no mistake powering past Pepe Reina at the Stretford End. Long-serving Ryan Giggs then had the opportunity to put his team in front but his follow up somehow went over the bar. That miss soon became irrelevant though when just a minute later they took the lead for the first time. Wayne Rooney met Franck Ribery's cross and his header flew into the bottom corner before the keeper could even see it. The momentum was now with the home team for the first time and they continued to press. Jose Reina did well to deny Franck Ribery on 64 minutes, and then two minutes later the Frenchman did manage to beat Reina but it narrowly missed the far post. United were made to rue those missed chances on 69 minutes when Xabi Alonso made up for his earlier miss with the equaliser. United's terrible attempt at the offside trap left the midfielder with enough time and space to finish past the advancing Van Der Sar. On 81 minutes, Albert Riera had a shout for a penalty turned down by the referee, and replays showed his decision was correct. With 5 minutes left, holding midfielder Owen Hargreaves rattled the post from distance, and that was the last notable chance for either team. A 3-3 draw doesn't do too much harm for either side though they will both believe they had the chances to win the game.

Real Madrid 0 - 2 Sporting

Carmelo.afp.elmundo.jpg

Sporting Upset Leaders in Madrid

Sporting Gijon pulled off the suprise of the week in Spain, with a superb two goal victory over top the table Real Madrid. The packed crowd inside the Bernabéu were reduced to a stunned silence on 15mins as Carmelo (pictured) wheeled away in celebration after seeing his shot find the back of the net.

After half time, the home side did not help themselves as Pekturk was sent off for a headbutt, before Frutos sealed the unlikely victory on 69mins with a nonchalant lob. This result is only Sporting's third victory of the campaign so far, but follows impressive wins over Villareal and Barcelona, along with a draw against Valencia last week.

Manager, Chris Lewis, had this to say,'This result means we have climbed back out of the relegation zone, and proves we can compete at this level. However we still need to improve. It is a big bonus beating the big teams, but we need to now take points off the teams around us if we want to stay up.'

Manchester United Update

Since the last report, United have been somewhat inconsistent. In their 12 games in all competitions since the 3-3 draw with Liverpool, United have won 7, drew 2 and lost 3. They were dumped out of the English Shield at the semi-final stage at the hands of tital rivals Chelsea before draws with West Brom and Vasco da Gama. A surprise defeat at Norwich was next for the Red Devils and things got worse for them when Chelsea yet again beat them in the league. United and Chelsea have met three times this season and United have lost by one goal in each game - a 2-1, a 2-1 and a 4-3. That 4-3 defeat saw the West Londoners go five clear at the top, but United have since gone back into 1st place with wins over Plymouth, Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers, while Chelsea lost two consecutive games to Hull and Bolton. United have netted 15 times in their last three games, but their lead at the top is just 1 point with 23 games gone. Up next is a home game with Arsenal while Chelsea will host Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.

Aston Villa appoint a new manager at Villa Park

amilnerjpg.jpg

(James Milner: Could be a key player for Aston Villa for the remained of the season.)

News coming in to SkySportsNews is that Englishmen Jake A has been shockly appointed new manager of Aston Villa at Villa Park. Jake was a possible candidate for the Villa job but he said that he didn't think he would get it due to he's minimal experience at this football level. Jake has a contract with Villa witch will be active until 2010 in witch Jake can choose wether to renew his contract with Villa. Villa are currently hopeful of a top 4 finish which would see them play european football next season at the top level with all the big sides worldwide. Players are already set to exit Villa with Tasci, Juanito and possibly John Carew all being told that they can leave Villa if a club closes in on a possible deal for them.

With Jake not knowing how he's side play etc. the training session today could be very crucial so Jake can quickly suss out a possible formation and who will play in tomorrow's home game against Hull City who currently sit 18th in the league table and hope to escape the relegation scare with 4 games left. We caught up with Jake after his appointment at Villa Park in the early hours of this morning and this is what he had to say to SkySportsNews, "I am looking forward to my next 2 seasons with Villa. I hope I can build them to my standard ready for the possibly biggest season Villa will ever have next season. I say this because we could be going to the SMFA Champions Cup and if we build the right team with the right players we have a big chance of upsetting some big clubs. I just hope the Villa fans don't have very high expectations as it will take time for me to get going with this Villa team and a bad start is possible as I don't know much about the team. I hope we can get 3 points against Hull City tomorrow night at Villa Park."

So with Jake preparing for a nail biting first 4 games of his career at Villa a win against Hull City on Saturday night could see his new side look more or less certain to finish in that amazing top 4 with the biggest teams in England.

United Are Champions!

UnitedWinners.jpg

Manchester United have been crowned champions of England once again as they grabbed the point they needed last night against Fulham. Wayne Rooney's 72nd minute strike was enough to cancel out Viktor Zapata's earlier goal and saw the Red Devils lift the Premier League trophy. With 2 games still to play, United lie 8 points clear of nearest rivals Liverpool and Aston Villa, though Chelsea have been United's strongest challengers throughout the season, beating the new champions 3 times in all competitions. United manager Jack Harvey has now stated his intention of resting his first team players for their final two league games as they prepare for an English Cup semi final against Sunderland on the 4th December.

End Of Season Awards

Defender of the Year - Rio Ferdinand

Picked up my old Lens, got back into transfers straight away, scoured the unmanaged clubs and picked up Elias and Adrian (Depor CF). But so annoyed, should have Wilson Palacios in my squad, but the team went down to 21 players after a player had transferred out to a bid made after mine (I checked). Got an ABD on Dealbert, but would much rather have Palacios.

Looking for some 89+ players and willing to offer 2 for 1 deals.

Sevilla Make Big Announcement.

Sevilla announce that David Villa has been sold to Chelsea for a part exchange deal, the Spaniard, who has failed to take off in his 4th season at the club is leaving. Villa, who was ever-present in his first season for Sevilla, scoring 26 goals in 36 appearances, although this season he has flopped, managing to net only 11 times in 23 appearances. His team mate, Karim Benzema has managed 16 in 24. David Villa leaves for Robin Van Persie, and Riccardo Montolivo. Both players should arrive tommorow on 5 year deals. Sevilla's squad has been thin, and this has been affecting the results on the field as Sevilla slump to mid-table with 2 games to go. The deal also see's Mauricio Isla join Sevilla for £5 Million.

robin-van-persie.jpg

Also, Sevilla have told Sky Sports News that Jesus Navas has left the Spanish club to go to RC Lens, the suprise deal has seen the French giants give Felipe Melo and Angel Lafita to Sevilla. Navas, who has been in teriffic form this season has decided to move on, and Sevilla need a much bigger squad to compete next season.

Werder-Bremen-icon.png

Werder Bremen - End of season review

4.jpg

Player of the year Milevskiy netted 13 goals in 14 appearances this season

Season 4 ended in disappointment for German side Werder Bremen as a defeat on the last day of the season means the team will be playing SMFA Shield football next season rather than in the lucrative SMFA Champions Cup.The shock 3-0 defeat away to Karlsruher SC on the final day of the seasoon saw Werder slip down to 5th place despite having the chance to claim 3rd place 90 minutes before kickoff. However with the defeat and with Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger winning the side finished the season in 5th.

In the cup competitions the side had mixed fortunes. On the upside Werder Bremen managed to progress to the last 16 of the SMFA Champions Cup after finishing 2nd in their group with 10 points out of a possible 16. In the first knock out stage of the competition the team faced English side Aston Villa. However the Midlands team were too good and Bremen were beaten 3-1 on aggregate. In the domestic cups Werder were poor. The team were beaten in the German Shield 3rd round on penalties by VFB Stuttgart after the game finished 1-1. In the German Cup it was even worse as Bremen suffered a humiliation after being beaten 2-0 by minnows Alemannia Aachen.

Despite all this, the fans seem happy with the manager's methods thanks to some fast flowing attacking football which saw them put 11 past Bayer Leverkusen, win 8-0 against VFL Osnabruck and demolish Hertha Berlin 7-0 throughout the course of the season. With stars Dzeko and Lucio back for the start of next season after long injuries things can only improve for the team.

Benzema, who was prolific in the league last season is recovering from a groin injury, and will play with Manchester United this season. Berbatov and Giovinco are fully match fit and plan to be in the team next season. Berbatov joins Robin Van Persie to Sevilla, after his move from Chelsea. Both are amazing strikers and should help Sevilla do well in the league this season.

A Sevilla THRASHING Kills Off St.Ettiene

A weakened Sevilla side played tonight with true spirit, as they thrashed St.Ettiene 8-0. The game was dominated by Sevilla, who had 32 shots, and 18 on target. Sevilla are now favourites for the SMFA Shield, and they look to play there under 20 team in the second leg, so they can focus on the league.

The League Is Ours!

Edwards Claims Sevilla Will Win The Title

robin-van-persie-holland.jpg

Robin Van Persie - Key Man

More than half-way into the season, and Jack Edwards is making claims that will raise more than a few eyebrows. On a very warm Spanish evening, Edwards made a very bold statement to ruffle a few feathers. "We will win the league" , he claims that his team plays the best football and they have proved this season that they are the most worthy to win the league.

"Look, we are playing the best football in the league, we are killing teams off, and we only lose games because of injuries. I am also looking to bring in 2-3 players that can spice the team up, we have had a few injuries, and luckily Dai Winston has let me take a few of his players on loan"

Sevilla go into the final stage of the season at the top of the league, Robin Van Persie is the top scorer, and they are enjoying life in Spain. Sevilla's form is a little bit off, but with Edwards claims it seems that they are training better, and bringing some players into the fold.

New Manager New Winger

Early yesterday evening legendary Italien side Lazio offered expierenced manager Ashley Duffy the chance to take over and the offer was acsepted without thought. The young manager has said that he is expecting a few days to assess the squad before he starts to make deals but the chance last night to sign one of the finest wingers in the world for cash became avalible and the bid of £17,000,000 pounds was acsepted.

Everyone in the Lazio camp would just like to welcome South Korean Park Ji Sung. The winger is currently having a medical which is set to be completed in the not to distant future. The winger will now have the chance with players of the calibre of Nilmar and Lavezzi and youth prospect Michel and Ganso.

Duffy's first game in charge came against Inter last night in the league and the 1-0 victory achieved pushed Lazio up to first place. Duffy is now looking to push for the title and to do so would be a great achievment for the club.

Ze Roberto (91) can leave according to Duffy and the young manager is also intrested in bringing in 90+ players by any means.

Sevilla Make Triple Swoop

Edwards Signs Spahic, Mannini & Lucas Pierre

la-rinascita-di-daniele-mannini.jpg

Mannini - At His Press Conference

Sevilla manager Jack Edwards has bolstered his squad with three "world class" players, the Englishman made the triple swoop this morning, and has told Sky Sports News that his squad needs to stay sharp to win the league, they signed Daniele Mannini from Sporting for £8 Million, he plays on the wing and has blistering pace and skill. Next up was Emir Spahic from Montpellier HSC for £8 Million, he plays center defence and gives the squad an added bit of expereince. Finally Lucas Pierre signed from Panathinaikos, he plays central midfield and is an ex Brazil international.

Speaking in their press conference, Jack Edwards told reporters this.

"Im pleased we have managed to sign all three players, I have been watching them for some time and I am delighted that we have managed to get them all, we have splashed out a fair bit of cash, but it was needed as I felt the squad needed adding to it to win the league, and next season to win the SMFA Cup."

"I wanted to bring in a few other players, Lazio midfielder Yohan Cabaye was a player on my shortlist but I don't think Ash wanted to sell just yet, no problems as now I feel we have enough midfielders"

Berbatov Hat-Trick

A Dimitar Berbatov master-class helped Sevilla thrash Valladolid, and made sure Sevilla stay top of the La Liga. Berbatov grabbed a hat-trick and an assist to round off his man of the match performance.

Christian Gentner grabbed the other two goals, in a game that Sevilla dominated from start to finish, Edwards took a chance by playing his three new signings, Emir Spahic, Daniele Mannini and Lucas Pierre all starred in this magnificent performance.

Earlier this week, Edwards claimed that his side will walk to the title, his claims may have helped his team to spur to victory. Sevilla face Castellón in what should be an easy game, and Edwards has hinted at resting players, as they face Villareal twice in a week for the League and Cup ties.

"Against Castellón we feel we should be resting players, it should be a fairly easy win, so I may contemplate on giving our stars a rest".

Although there was no possibility of an upset tonight after Lazio's win at the weekend sealed the title for the italien club tonight was the night when the real celebration would take place.

The last game of the season always marks the crowning of the champons in all divisions across the world and tonight was no different. A huge after game party has errupted in the streets of lazio even after a boring 1-1 draw in which the team played below par. However this did not matter as the blues finished on 94 points 2 ahead of closest rivals Juventus.

Duffy has only been in charge of the last 3/4 of the season has shunned any praise on himself by stating that he wasnt the man who built the team he was just the one that got them to play together the rest was up to his predecesor.

Romours have been circulating at the club to wether or not Duffy will still be in charge next season but we can now comfirm that Duffy will remain at Lazio for at least one more season after falling in love with the city , the club and the fans.
