Match Preview - Match 34/38

FC_Lorient_Bretagne_Sud.gifvs olymarse.gif

Current league leaders Marseille travel to bottom placed Lorient tonight, knowing that failure to get all three points could seriously hinder their title hopes, especially with Lyon just one point behind them and five games left to play. Lyon will travel to Bordeaux tonight, who were top of the league just two weeks ago but a poor run of form has seen them drop to third.

Saint-Etienne 33----57

Marseille will be hoping for a Bordeaux win, or at least a draw, to hopefully see them go 4 points clear if they win tonight. Marseille could only manage a draw when they hosted Lorient back in May, giving away a two goal lead. Talisman Julio Cruz has failed to recover in time from his foot injury, which will see Bakari Kone play upfront on his own, with Andrey Arshavin just behind him. Karim Ziani and Fernando Varela will be on the left and right wing respectively, after the two players grabbed the goals in Marseille's last outing. Flamini and Cabaye will hold in the midfield, and an unchanged back 4 will protect Manuel Almunia tonight.

Bonnart ---- Hilton ---- Civelli ---- Taiwo

Flamini ---- Cabaye

Varela ---- Arshavin ---- Ziani

Pinard ---- Vahirua ---- Gilberto Macena

Ewolo ---- Amalfitano ---- Lepen

Lelan ---- Gonton ---- Boutruche ---- Kokalovic

In transfer news, Marseille have acquired the services of three youngsters. Christian Landu-Landu has joined from Viking FK, and Fredrik Gulbrandsen has signed a three year deal arriving from Lillestrom SK. The two Scandinavians were joined by Scotsman Paul Slane, who cost them nothing. All players won't be chosen for selection for the time being, but are expected to be used in cup competitions next year. Harvey said he had not ruled out the possibiilty of loaning them out should there be an interested party.

Marseille go into tonight's match in good form, unbeaten in six league games - including a 2-1 win away at Lyon and a 1-1 draw away at Bordeaux. It hasn't been Marseille's flowing attacking football that has lifted them to the top of the league this season. The leaders have only scored 56 goals all season, which in comparison to Bordeaux's 82 is very small indeed. Marseille's charge to the top has been based on a mean defence, that has only conceded 27 goals this campaign, which on average is 0.82 per game. The back four will need to be solid tonight as they play against Lorient's three forwards.

Man to Watch

Andrey Arshavin can make the difference between the sides tonight.

Match Preview - Final Day Of The Season

1391.pngvs Cu71Ayjwvc6pkAy2.png

Marseille will travel to Lille on Wednesday night knowing that a draw will see them lift the coveted Ligue 1 trophy. Lille OSC were struggling a few weeks ago, losing 5 in a row which saw them slip to 7th, but a 4-0 win against Le Havre and a 2-2 draw at Metz have seen them regain some form. Realistically, Bordeaux are the only team who can catch Marseille, due to Lyon and Nancy-Lorraine's inferior goal difference. Bordeaux will travel to AS Nancy-Lorraine on Wednesday night where only a win will give them a chance of retaining the league title they won last season. Bordeaux also led the way for much of this season, but a bad run of form in late June/early July gave Marseille the chance to overtake them. Lyon have an outside chance of lifting the trophy, as they head to bottom place Lorient, who are already relegated. Last year's runners up will be looking to fill their boots in Lorient, while praying for both Bordeaux and Marseille to drop points. Whoever the title goes to, all teams involved have been enjoyable to watch this year and should be commended on their efforts.

Possible Line Ups

Beria ---- Rami ---- Aurelio

Joilson ---- Mavuba ---- Conti ---- Salvio

De Sutter ---- Brozek

Ziani ------------ Arshavin ------------ Varela

Flamini ---- Cabaye

Givet ---- Hilton ---- Zubar ---- Bonnart

Previous Meeting

The two sides met on the 6th June at the Velodrome, where the score was 2-2. Lille took an early lead through Rio Mavuba before doubling that lead via a strike from de Melo Tulio. Fernando Varela pulled one back just before the half time whistle for the home side, and a Karim Ziani solo effort evened the scores at 2-2. Despite Marseille enjoying more possession they failed to create clear cut chances and a draw was probably a fair result. If Marseille can repeat that same feat on Wednesday night, then the title will head to the Velodrome.

Man To Watch - Andrey Arshavin

The Russian maestro has missed Marseille's last three games through suspension - his return could inspire Marseille to a much needed victory!

Marseille Win Ligue 1 Despite Loss In Lille!

Marseille succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Lille last night, but tital rivals Bordeaux lost 3-2 at the hands of AS Nancy-Lorraine despite taking an early lead. Marseille's defeat was celebrated as a victory when the final whistle blew at Grimonprez-Jooris, as they celebrated a narrow league win on goal difference. Marseille, Lyon and AS Nancy-Lorraine all finished on 69 points, but Marseille's superior goal difference saw them lift the Ligue 1 Trophy.

Above: Marseille celebrate their league victory.

Valencia announce new man in an eventfull night at the Mestella

(Spaniard David Villa who didn't feature in their 6-1 win against Real Murcia could be leaving Valencia but a destination is still unknown.)

Tonight has been a very good night in Valencia fans eyes tonight after beating Real Murcia 6-1 at home shortly after they found out that they announced a new manager at the Mestella. It is thought that Valencia had to use their caretaker for tonights game but still cruised past the troubled Real Murcia who also had no manager. Spanish powerhouse David Villa has also been told by Valencia that he can leave the club after he's reaction after being left out of the 16 man squad to face Real Murcia' date=' it is thought that Jake is looking to bring young rising talent to the Spanish giants.

After we seen new Valencia manager Jake A leaving the Mestalla after watching the game in the crowd we managed to catch up with him briefly and this is what he had to say to our SkySportsNews reporters, "I am very proud to say I manage Valencia football club. The manager that he them before me has done an immense job and I would like to thank him for keeping the squad in immense shape. I'm sure the Valencia fans will be upset with the departure of their last manager but I am sure that I can start where he left off with a win against Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish Shield on Monday night away."[/color']

Ahhh good old club hoppers, you get a great team, sell there best player and leave, iv sent a suppor tticket to get the deal reversed and this is against the rules. Cheers for wasting my time, and the villarreal managers time.

Anyways iv taken over and hopefully Villa will be back at the Mestalla tomorrow.

Sorry to Aaron, but its against the rules on jakes behalf.

I will stick around

Re: Gold Championship 44 Match Reports/Transfers

I'd be heavily interested in Grafite. Can offer you midfielders (Conca & Alonso who's currently on loan), or Derlei.

I'd seriously suggest you to lower your expectations though. A 90+ striker and money for an ageing 90 AM is far too much, and even if a manager might be stupid enough to accept it, it would be blocked by his chairman.

Internazionale Latest

Internazionale appointed SirJake as their manager last Saturday and already Jake is making the team his by attempting to make various changes to the side. Players such as Puyol, Ibrahimovic and Cambiasso have all been told they can leave Internazionale for the right deal, none are yet to leave the Giuseppe Meazza. Jake has had 2 wins from 2 games, wins over Udinese and Catania (Match Report below) see his side currently top Seria A with 8 games gone, Juventus hot on Inter's heels in 2nd on goal difference.

Semberas (74)

After taking charge just hours before the game in Italy Jake had to pick a quick squad that will see his side through Udinese in Udine. Both teams really needed the points and after half time Inter made some changes to their squad and on the 74th minute, they got that much wanted goal, Semberas rising ahead of the Udinese defence to nod home a crucial goal for Inter in their title chase this season.

Ibrahimovic (47)

Granero (78)

This was one of them must win games for Inter, things didn't start well, Catania were pressing and looked most likely to score out of the 2, luckily enough Inter went in at the break 0-0. It was that half time team talk from Inter which turned their performance round, Ibrahimovic scoring just 3 minutes after the re-start, a huge sigh of relief gathered in the Giuseppe Meazza. Granero then wrapped up the victory late on for Inter, the Spaniard showing what he has to offer for Inter after a well earned goal finally came for the 22 year old.
