Re: Gold Championship 45 Match Reports/News/Transfers Thread

Stoke Living The Dream

Stoke City manager Ryan Peters has been announced manager of the month by Sky Sports News after being the only Premiership manager to remain undefeated after six matches.

Stoke City, the Premiership underdogs, high-odds to get relegated have knocked down the big two teams!

Stoke 4 - 2 Arsenal

Stoke 2 - 0 Manchester United

Peters couldn't believe not only reaching second in the table, living the champions-league dream, he knocked out the the big two outta four.

Peters added "It's a dream at the moment, I never set my expectations this high, our players are full of confidence at the moment and we aim for a top-eight finish, we still need to add depth to the squad and I hope we can continue our current form!"

With the first team rested for Monday's cup game, they were refreshed and ready to continue their unbeaten start to the season on Wednesday night. Napoli were the opponents, a side strengthened by the sale of star players Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marik Hamsik, deals that saw Fabio Cannavaro, Javier Saviola, Patrick Vieira and Marco Materazzi join the club. However, a poor start at the San Siro meant they would be in for a disappointing night as the first 2 shots in the game were both goals for Milan. First of all after 3 minutes Bastian Schweinsteiger finished off a slick passing move with a clever finish, a debut goal just hours after completing his move from Bayern Munich. Barely 60 seconds had passed before Wayne Rooney was set up by Anderson to smash a 30 yard shot with venom into the back of the net. Napoli had a good chance to pull one back quickly as the ball fell to Ibrahim Afellay on the edge of the box but he could only manage to slice it wide. The first and only booking of the game came after 9 minutes, when Milan's Rafael Van Der Vaart was booked for using abusive language after giving away a free kick. Both teams then quietened down until the 20th minute when Simon Rolfes lost his marker and thumped a low shot under Robert Enke, his first goal of the season in his only game so far. Milan won the ball back straight from kick off and a Raul shot was blocked by Fabio Cannavaro which led to a counter attack which saw Marco Zalayeta somehow miss an easy tap-in. Rooney went close to making it 4-0 before Van Der Vaart's delicate chip crashed back off the crossbar. The last chance of the half fell to Paolo Cannvaro who mis hit a volley from a Christian Maggio cross.

Napoli came out for the 2nd half determined to pull one back as soon as they could to possibly give themselves a chance of a comeback, and Patrick Vieira took advantage of a Paulo Maldini mistake in the 49th minute only to blast his shot wide. Anderson, making only his 2nd appearance following the departure of Massimo Ambrosini, curled a shot just wide soon after before Rolfes nodded him from an inch perfect cross from Tranquillo Barnetta to put the result beyond doubt. A chip from Rooney beat Enke soon after but flew over the crossbar as Milan started to dominate possession. Raul's snapshot from the edge of the box was stopped by a fantastic save before Van Der Vaart hit the post for a second time. For the next 15 minutes or so though, Napoli started to show what they are capable of, an Ibrahim Afellay free kick going close followed by Javier Saviola's attempt cleared off the line. Afellay also had a shot cleared off the line minutes later by Marek Jankulovski. Mevlut Erding was brought on for Zalayeta after 75 minutes and immediately had a great chance but his header went wide taking a deflection off Maldini. Doni collected the resulting corner, throwing the ball out wide to Schweinsteiger who set up Raul only for the ex Madrid attacker to hit it just past the post. Schweinsteiger then went close himself with the final shot of the game, his wonderful strike pushed away by Enke.

Rhys Hunt took over his second match in charge of Chelsea and lined up agaist Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. The match didn't turn out to be as competetive as people first thought with Chelsea running out 8-0 winners!.

Some of the younger players in the squad had to come in for the NMF & Injured players and they really stepped up to the mark ALL of them grabbing a goal or two each! :D

Huggel Heroically Hammers Hotspur at Home!

After slipping up to Bolton, Sunderland got back on track thanks to a Huggel brace in a 2-1 victory over Tottenham at the stadium of light. "This gives us a lot of confidence, said the defensive midfielder. We are glad to get this out of the way, as we know we will be facing another difficult challenge against Hunty's Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Xmas eve." Indeed, after a cup tie to Sheffield, the next important match for Sunderland is at Chelsea, who are trying to catch up to Sunderland, desperatly holding on to a SMFA Cup spot. Stay tuned. Surprisingly, Swiss midfielder Luca Ladner made his debut ahead of Holaido and Richardson replacing the injured Malbranque.

Undermanned Sunderland hold on to Sheffield, takes over in pens

In an even, boring match, it seemed like an early sending off for defender Marcus Lindberg would seal Sunderland's faith. However, a superb performance from Julio would be enough to save Sunderland's face, where they won 5-4 in pens. A relief to Sunderland is that Malbranque is back from his injury, as well as Subotic from his suspension.

Sunderland take all three points from Stamford Bridge!

The cinderella story continues as a team effort from Sunderland supplanted a 2 goal performance from Niko Anelka. The Chelsea manager, Rhys Hunt, underestimated Sunderland and started two youngsters, Stoch and Woods. Sunderland started their entire first team, with the intention of playing youth in the Cup against Arsenal. Benjamin Huggel has been riding a good stroke of form, he has 3 goals in the last 2 league matches.
