Russia start their World Cup group with a 2-0 win against Denmark, Pogrebnyak and Arshavin with the goals. Play Bosnia tonight with the last group game against Egypt on Saturday. :)

In club news, Milan need an 89+ LB as back up/replacement for Jankulovski, rest of defence, Schweinsteiger, Droguett, Anderson, Rakitic, Barnetta and Pato are the unavailables ;)

Perfect start from Russia!

Russia have made the perfect start to their World Cup as they top Group H on 6 points going into tonight's game against Egypt. Unless the Russians suffer a heavy defeat, progress to the last 16 stage is all but secured. On Thursday, goals from Pavel Pogrebnyak and Andrei Arshavin either side of half time saw Denmark beaten, and a double from Pogrebnyak sealed a 2-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina last night.

1 Russia 2 2 0 0 4 0 4 6

2 Egypt 2 1 0 1 5 4 1 3

3 Denmark 2 1 0 1 3 4 -1 3

4 Bosnia & Herzegovina 2 0 0 2 1 5 -4 0

If Russia do qualify then they will face either Portugal or Bulgaria in the next round, with both on 6 points in their group so far.

Starting Line-Up for Egpyt game tonight:

Anyukov - Ignashevich - Kolodin - Berezutsky

Denisov - Semak

Arshavin --------------------- Zhirkov

Pogrebnyak has 3 goals in 2 games so far, is there more to come?

Re: Gold Championship 45 Match Reports/News/Transfers Thread

A tough start to the season for Milan with 2 hard games in 3 days, along with the challenge of guiding Russia to World Cup glory as well. 4 players arrived at Milan in pre-season, Jonny Evans the biggest name as he completed a £3.7 million move from Manchester United in a deal that had to wait until the start of this season. Blackburn Rovers duo Martin Olsson and Keith Treacy joined for a combined £2.6 million as well as Serbian defender Marko Jovanovic (£2.9m).

Milan travelled to Juventus for the opening game of the season with a new formation, Raul playing as the lone striker with support from Schweinsteiger and Farfan on the wing. And it was Farfan who got the winner with a 71st minute overhead kick that flew past Buffon.

Tonight sees Liverpool come to the San Siro and 10 changes are made to the line up from Saturday with Paulo Ferreira, Bonera, Evans, Droguett, Ernst, Nivet, Echouafni, Barnetta, Rakitic and Kuranyi all set to start.

Russia finished as Group H winners after a 1-0 win over Egypt on Saturday, Pavel Pogrebnyak's 4th goal of the tournament proving to be the difference between the 2 sides. Denmark also progressed from the group.

With Bulgaria beating Portugal in the last match of Group G, it meant that Russia faced the Portugese in the knockout stages last night. Joao Moutinho gave Portugal a 63rd lead when he headed home from a Quaresma corner but Igor Denisov's 76th minute equaliser took the game to penalties. Akinfeev became a hero for the Russians as he saved 3 penalties to give them a 3-0 win.

Russia face Australia in the quarter-final tonight.

Match Day 1

Bayern Munich Manager Patrick is disappointed with the start to the SMFA Champions Cup but it was always going to be an uphill task to get a result away to Chelsea.

German International Michael Ballack scored twice for Chelsea and sent the German champions back home without a point.

Overall our team was disappointing, the goalkeeper Michael Rensing was the only player who had a good performance.

In the other Group C match, Atletico Madrid were held to a 3-3 score at home to Roma

Grossetto - Genoa 0 -1

RM - J STANISLAS - 1 assist

F - P DANI AQUINO - 1goal

Genoa Substitutes

Grossetto lost at home against Genoa

Not a big deal you think, however Grossetto played with their strongest side while Genoa played with a 3rd team, 18 years of age and 81 rated.

The winning goal was a beauty.

J Stanislas crossed the ball to P Dani Aquino who lashed it home with a bicycle kick.

Genoa will now have to face Udinese in an out game in the third round of the Shield.

Re: Gold Championship 45 Match Reports/News/Transfers Thread

I'm looking for a sort of youth cup in GC 45.

Every team that want's to play in this tournament, called the Toulon tournament, has to PM me (on my account on SM, not here) before wednesday midnight to be included in the format.

The following rules have to be obeyed, otherwise your team will be expelled and you loose all the games with a 5-0 forfait score:

1. All players have to be 18 or younger.

Every position has to be filled with a player age 18 or younger and if you want subs, they have to be in that same criteria.

2. One player in your entire squad may be older than 18, but still has a maximum age of 21.

If you for instance don't have a goalkeeper aged 18 or younger, you can choose a 19-20-21 year old.

3. All players can have a rating as high as 85, except one.

When you have a 18 86 player for instance, he can play, but when you have 2 of these, you'll have to choose between them.

This rule doesn't aply for a player following rule 2.

For instance, a 19 85 is a possibility, but everything starting 86 is not possible for a 19-20-21 year old.

This way, the Messi's, Aguero's, Benzema's and others are banned.

4. All teams that bring out a squad without a player older than 18 get 1 point before the start of the cup and teams without a player higher than 85 also get 1 point before the start of the cup. If you read this right, you noticed all teams wihout those 2 exceptions, get 2 points already and will have an advantage when teams are points tied.

5. When you don't have the acquired amount of young players for every position, go out and loan!

My team (Genoa) will be happy to loan out some youth players.

6. When every played everyone, the first 2 teams will play the final for the Toulon cup.

The number 1 of the league (when all teams play each other) will play at home in that final against number 2.

7. Every manager that wants to play, has to PM me his team so I can see if they obey the rules, every game will be looked at seperatly so nobody can cheat.

When I get the team sheets, I'll give teams the available extra points according to rule 4.

My Team

GK: Noring (18 76)

RB: Corchia (18 77)

CB: Munoz (18 78), Musacchio (18 77)

LB: Schennikov (18 74)

DM: Mangala (18 80)

LM: Ignjovski (18 76)

CM: Wijnaldum (18 85), Aydogdu (18 78)

RM: Lundberg (18 76)

AM: Ticinovic (17 78)

W: Fleck (17 77)

F: Aleksic (18 82), Sukuta-Pasu (18 77)

F: Aquino (18 80)

15/15 players.

All players 18 or younger when subscribed, no player above 85 = +2 points.

If players needed, all others besides my fiftheen can be loaned at Genoa.

Gold Championship 45 Division 2 Breaking News !

Former Spartak Manager Takes A New Challenge @ Boro.

Monday Morning, 18th May 2009.

Southgate Gets Sacked After Relegation Into The Championship And Half The Season On, Still Nothing Magical.

Just half an hour ago Gareth Southgate was sacked from the managers job at Middlesbrough. He simply was just not getting enough success. They got relegated at the end of last season with just 5 wins, 7 draws and 26 losses, the finished on 26 points which is virtually what they are on now.

''I Promise to try my very very best to get this forgotten football club up back to the top flight where they belong. They were treated disgracefully by Gareth and i apologise for that, Middlesbrough do not belong here. I will be bringing in some new faces soon and hopefully before my first match here as manager.''

Griffin kicks off his reign in charge away to Nottingham Forest who have been lurking around the relegation zone for quite a while. A win is expected as Middlesbrough look to climb into the play-off positions.

"Genoa complete 5 star signing!"

It has become clear in recent hours that Genoa and Vfl Wolfsburg came to an agreement about top midfielder Zvjezdan Misimovic.

The 27 year old Bosnian captain has had a tremendous season, being rewarded the German midfielder of the year award, before the likes of Franck Ribery and Ribas Diego.

He'll be rewared immediate captaincy at Genoa, following the likely departure of Juan Roman Riquelme in July.

Will Zvjezdan Misimovic continue his fantastic form at Genoa?

Re: Gold Championship 45 Match Reports/News/Transfers Thread

Manchester United extended their lead at the top of the table to 7 points tonight after easing to a 4-0 win against Plymouth.

United took the lead with just a minute left until the end of the first half, through Fullback Zambrotta, who was allowed to run right into the box and thump in a shot past goalkeeper Tremmel.

The lead was doubled with 70 minutes gone through Frenchman Flamini, after finishing from just inside the box.

That lead was extended on 78 minutes by Riquelme who attempted a chip, but was parried by the goalkeeper, only for it to slowly creep into the back of the net.

Just a few minutes later, Gary Neville made it 4-0, after tapping in from a corner which landed right at his feet.

The game was heavily dominated by the Red Devils, who took 70% of the possession and had 36 shots, 17 of them on target.

United next host Sunderland at Old Trafford, where they will be hoping to get the 3 points and take a step towards retaining the Premier League.

The fantastic four for the Red Devils tonight.

Milan edge nearer to the title!

Last year's Serie A was extremely tight with Fiorentina winning the title on the last day of the season ahead of Milan and Inter. Roma, Genoa and Lazio all battled hard as well, making sure it was an exciting finish. And this year is no different. Last season's champions Fiorentina are 11th but still have a great chance of qualifying for Europe, as do 12th placed Parma. At the top, Milan lead on 72 points with 3 games left, Udinese 1 point behind. And Roma haven't given up either, a slip up from the top 2 and they will be there to take advantage. Inter are 4th, still in with a very very slight chance of taking the title but they will be more focused on staying ahead of Lazio in the last Champions Cup position.

On Wednesday, a game that could of decided the title took place, Milan at home to Udinese. The away side had a 2 point lead at the top with 5 games left and both sides were near enough equal in possession and shots on goal. But it was Milan who took their chances, Anderson's 9th goal of the season giving them the perfect start. And despite Gonzalo Castro receiving a red card in the 52nd minute, Daniele De Rossi added 2 more as Milan won 3-0.

Saturday saw Milan face a tricky away game at Catania whilst Udinese were at home to Fiorentina. Milan supporters feared the worst as Udinese scored in the 1st minute and their side went behind in the 12th but that fear was gone by the end of the 90 minutes - Raul's hat-trick in the space of 10 minutes sealing a comfortable win. Meanwhile, Dai's Fiorentina battled at Udinese but in the end, the home side took the points in a 3-1 win.

But before the next set of league games comes the Quarter-Finals of the Italian Cup. Milan face Livorno at home but Udinese aren't in action having been knocked out already. Could this rest prove vital in the title race? Maybe, but it's unlikely as Milan have used their reserves in all cup competitions this year.

Full draw:

Milan - Livorno

Roma - Atalanta

Sampdoria - Internazionale

Ancona - Bologna

Final 3 games:

Milan - 72 points

Sampdoria (Home)

Cagliari (Away)

Torino (Home)

Udinese - 71 points

Siena (Away)

Internazionale (Home)

Roma (Away)

Roma - 69 points

Chievo (Home)

Genoa (Away)

Udinese (Home)

Transfer News:

Not much has happened recently at Milan but in the past few weeks, Oguchi Onyewu joined from Portsmouth for £4 million, with Giuseppe Favalli and Keith Treacy moving the other way. Onyewu is expected to play in cup games next year after Paulo Maldini's retirement.

Swiss defender Mario Eggimann was recalled from his loan at Queen of the South and sold to Esteghlal for £3.3 million after making just 2 starts at Milan.

Team to face Livorno on Monday:

Paulo Ferreira - Bonera - Evans - Spiropoulos

Echouafni - Nivet

Barnetta ----------------------- Rakitic

Genoa - season 3

After a great first season, Genoa CFC struggled last year to find their best form. Due to injuries and players who underperformed, they only managed a 10th place finish.

Now Genoa is back, with a few new faces and a lot of motivation. Their goal is a finish that would guarantee European football.

First big summer signing was none other than Barcelona whizz Bojan Krkic Perez.

The extremely talented Spanjard wanted to play more than he did at Barca and agreed to a move to the fantastic Grifoni squad.

New superstar at Genoa CFC - Bojan Krkic Perez

It was not until today that reports were coming in that Genoa CFC had an even bigger player in their minds. One of the best players of the world, Ricardo Kaka, is said to be heading to the Luigi Ferraris. As great players are expansive, Genoa has to say goodbye to both Dmytro Chyhrynsky, Mesut Ozil and Javier Pastore.

A steep price but one Abdel Zizi is prepared to pay for one of the best players available.

Now a Grifoni Galactico - Ricardo Kaka

At a press conference a few moments ago, Abdel Zizi gave his starting XI for the first league game against Palermo:

Richards Sakho Criscito

Arda Vidal Misimovic Riera

How they made it to the final:

Russia were drawn into Group H, with Spain, Chile and Greece. A loss in the first game to a late Spanish goal meant that the Russians had to work hard for their next 2 games or face an early exit. The next match was against Chile, with Pavel Pogrebnyak's 78th minute half-volley earning 3 points after Chile had twice come from behind to level the scores at 2-2. Zyryanov and Semak were the other Russian scorers. And the last game, a 3-1 win over Greece. Pogrebnyak put Russia ahead early on before Gekas equalised but Semak and a 2nd half strike from Yuri Zhirkov put them into the Knockout Stages.

Russia 0-1 Spain

Russia 3-2 Chile

Russia 3-1 Greece

A close finish to the group with the top 3 sides all on 6 points and Chile finishing with 0. Spain and Russia both progressed with a goal difference of +2 compared to Greece's +1.

Goals from the wingers Zhirkov and Arshavin saw Russia past Belgium in the first Knockout Round before a 2-1 win on penalties over Croatia in the Quarter-Finals. Pogrebnyak had given them the lead before Eduardo equalised. A Semi-Final against France meant that the Russians were expected to go out of the tournament but took the lead in the 1st minute through Zhirkov. Karim Benzema equalised before Zhirkov added his 2nd and Pogrebnyak finished things off. Nicolas Anelka was sent off for France.

Russia 2-0 Belgium

Russia 1-1 Croatia - Russia win 2-1 on penalties

Russia 3-1 France

David James

Glen Johnson

Wes Brown

Micah Richards

Rio Ferdinand

David Beckham

Owen Hargreaves

Frank Lampard

Michael Carrick

Paul Scholes

Gareth Barry

Steven Gerrard

Joe Cole

Ashley Young

Theo Walcott

Wayne Rooney

Jermain Defoe

Gabriel Agbonlahor

Peter Crouch

Michael Owen

How they made it to the final:

England were in Group G, along with Colombia, Romania and Belgium. Michael Owen and Ashley Young both scored as Romania were beaten 2-0, and Young was on target again in the next game with an 84th minute winner against Colombia. Joe Cole had given them a 54th minute lead but Arturo David Ferreira had equalised with 7 minutes left. In their last group game, Belgium were 3-2 winners which meant that they topped the group with England coming 2nd. Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick got the goals for England but Witsel, Tchite and Martens gave Belgium the points.

England 2-0 Romania

England 2-1 Colombia

England 2-3 Belgium

Comfortable for England in the end, as qualification was confirmed with a game to play. Belgium won the group in the end, thanks to a single goal, whilst Colombia and Romania finished on 3 points each.

In Round 1, Joe Cole and Wayne Rooney's first goal of the tournament secured a 2-0 win over Spain, earning a Quarter-Final against the Netherlands. A close game was won 2-0 in the end, substitute Jermain Defoe with both. And to the Semi-Final where they met rivals Germany. England scored 2 goals yet again, coming from behind to win 2-1. Stefan Kiessling opened the scoring but Joe Cole and Wayne Rooney put England into the final.

England 2-0 Spain

England 2-0 Netherlands

England 2-1 Germany

So, England will be made favourites for the game with a stronger squad than Russia, but who will be best on the day? The Russians have gone better than last year when they reached the Quarter-Finals and have surprised again, coming through a tough group and beating France in the Semi's. If the game goes on form, then to win it looks like Russia will have to score 3 times, England having scored twice in every game so far.

Would do more but I'll end up regretting it when I lose. :o

Fiorentina, season review

Fiorentina have been amongst the trophies since the start of Welsh manager, Dai Winston's reign. In his first season, the Viola won the Serie A title against all expectations. In the second season the team struggled to match the consistency that came in that title winning first season. They did, however manage to pick up the Charity Shield.

Now, this season started brightly and Fiorentina were playing well. That was until the team hit a slight rough patch and lost four or five games in a row. This left them off the pace and with quite alot of work to do to get into the top four.

Winning 10 out of 11 games at the end of the season and some luck with other contending teams slipping up, Viola nipped in and took top spot with one game to go. All they had to do was match Udinese's result on the final day and they would become Champions again. Udinese won 5-1 against Empoli. A sole Gianluca Comotto goal for Fiorentina away to Siena was enough to make sure the Serie A title would go to Florence for the second time in three seasons. Delight all around.

It was the overall run of 22 wins in 26 games after the mid-season blip that won the league for the Viola. An amazing run of results.

Anelka came in at the end of last season and took no time to settle. Has been great for the team. The deal that brought him in was questionable but his goals leading the winning the league now seems worth it. Hope for more next season.

Jovetic will become a regular over time. Only really competing in the cup games and now and again when either Gila or Anelka were injured. Winston has turned down some notable offers for the youngster as he believes him to be a top talent.

New man announced at Stamford Bridge

At around 05:35am this morning Chelsea announced their new replacement manager after former Chelsea boss Bosanceros was removed from the Chelsea board by the F.A after breaking rules on his contract with the blues. The born Englishmen JakeA was announced Bosanceros's sucessur at Stamford Bridge on an expected 3 year contract with the London club.

There were lots of rumours in and around Chelsea with different managers being linked with the club, one that stand out was "the special one" Jose Mourinho, who won 2 EPL titles with Chelsea but reports were played down after he said "I'm flattered that Chelsea wan't me back but with Abramovich there, I do not wan't to retun to my beloved club."

Alot of Chelsea fans were "confused" over Jake's appointment at Stamford Bridge because with no experience at this club level, will he last or be the next Avram Grant at Chelsea? Jake has managed Stoke City in England before, but left the club after just over 11 games after lack of success forced the Englishmen out of the club. Questions will no be asked on Jake's experience and wether he will be able to keep the Chelsea fans happy, the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich expects Chelsea to put a big push on the top 4 this season and go all the way in Europe, time will tell at Chelsea.

(All can leave Chelsea.)

Well done on the title Dai, you seemed to come from nowhere whereas I just slipped further and further behind :o

Gave up in the end and stuck the reserves out with the first team in the cups. Lost 2-1 to Napoli in the Italian Cup semi on Friday with the Champions Cup 2nd leg coming up tomorrow. Home to Marseille with a 3-0 lead from the 1st leg so that should hopefully be enough. Really need to win the thing tbh because I've completely failed with this side with the extra effort I've put into them over other teams :/

edit: that was lucky.. just realised the 2nd leg is tonight :P

Chelsea fans left pondering over Jake's transfer activity

Well, after new management at the bridge you would of thought that the season break for JakeA's new men was time for him to bring new players and let some go but that hasn't been the case for Chelsea. No player has joined Chelsea yet since Jake took over, the only player to depart the London club is Carlo Cudicini who moved to Italian side Catania for a fee thought to be just over £2 million pounds, it is thought that Cudicini was un-happy about being 3rd choice goalkeeper with Hilario taking 2nd place at Stamford Bridge.

Big named players like Wesley Sneijder, Michael Ballack and Anderson Deco have all been told they can leave Chelsea for the right deal but only interest from Barcelona over Sneijder the rest are being un-noticed. All 3 players are thought to be leaving Chelsea due to the Lampard and Essien duo in the central midfield area which is keeping all 3 players out of 1st team football and with Chelsea in need of a new forward and a defender these are thought to be being used as "bait" for new players.

Mario Gomez annouunced Chelsea's first signing this season

The Chelsea FC Website has tonight confirmed that they have signed German forward Mario Gomez on a 4 year year contract, speculation finally put at rest after the forward was strongly linked with a move but we heard nothing since. The 24 year old has joined Chelsea from German club VFB Stuggart who have new management and already he is looking to make new changes. It is said that Chelsea players John Obi Mikel and Salomon Kalou have both departed to Germany, Mikel thought not to be needed to the the strong central force of Lampard, Essien and Sneijder.

Chelsea will now start their season, tommorow night, against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge hoping that the new Drogba and Gomez bond will turn out well as they aim high for the league title this season. No other news from Chelsea regarding Dutch CM/AM Wesley Sneijder who was odds on to leave Chelsea when Jake took over looks to have died down after minimal interest from clubs, if Sneijder does leave we expect it to be in a Defence/Forward role because that's where Chelsea, looking at their squad are struggling.

It is currently unknown what formation Jake will pick for tommorow night's game against Aston Villa with Chelsea hoping to get off to a good start, Chelsea fans will be hoping that they get their money's worth in an expected sell out crowd at Stamford Bridge meaning that altogether around 38,000 Chelsea fans will cheer their team on.

Re: Gold Championship 45 Match Reports/News/Transfers Thread

;1532243']Hi. Just joined as Juventus (thanks Dai :))' date=' and hoping to maybe kick-start this thread (unlikely :o:p).

Anyway, I have a lot of good players in my squad and would be willing to listen to reasonable offers for most of them. :)[/quote']

Not long afterwards...

My first deal has been agreed. Chiellini will be heading to Genoa in exchange for Pjanic + Schmelzer. Then afterwards, Motta will join Juve' for £20m. :)

It gives me good depth, and now I'm looking to offload Bruno Alves for 2 CBs 89/90. ;)
