hey,

After a few months of searching through the forum and looking at great rating prediction threads like "Biggest Upcoming Risers Revisited (2008/09)" by Radebe20, Seftinho's threads, Insider's recent compilation, among other excellent ones ( i mean all of them, because any work is great.) i decided to make one of my own. Because I live in Portugal, I will give my best to make this thread a good thread and that it helps you.

I will post all the predictions from the Liga Sagres in the next couple of days.

Feel free to ask me any question about this league.

I didn't include the stats because they just make it harder and more complicated.

I hope you like it ;)

BENFICA

(1st place - 7W 5D 0L - 12 games - 26 pts)

QUIM, Manuel - Gk - 90 > 89 - doing terrible matches, depends on the next games

MARCELO MORETTO, de Souza - Gk - 86 > 85/84 - third option

MOREIRA, José - Gk - 83 > 85/86 - is second option, but due to Quim's bad shape, might become first

JORGE RIBEIRO, Miguel - LB/LM - 89 > 89

LÉO, Lourenço - LB - 88 > 87

LUISÃO, Ânderson - CB - 90 > 90

DAVID LUIZ, Moreira - CB - 86 > 86/87 - change to CB/LB

SIDNEI, Rechel - CB - 85 > 87/88 *STAR BUY*

ZORO, Marco - CB/RB - 85 > 84

MIGUEL VITOR, Angelo - CB - 80 > 82/83

MAXI PEREIRA, Victorio - RM/RB - 89 > 89 - change to RB or RB/RM

JAVIER BALBOA, Ángel - RM/Wing - 86 > 86

CARLOS MARTINS, Jorge - CM/AM - 88 > 88 - change to CM/RM

YEBDA, Hassan - CM/RM - 87 > 88/89 - change to DM/CM or CM/DM

RÚBEN AMORIM, Filipe - CM/RM - 87 > 88 - change to RM or RM/CM

KATSOURANIS, Costas - DM/CB - 90 > 90/91 - newly crowned third captain. Great season, might change to DM/CM or DM.

BINYA, Gilles - DM - 85 > 85(/86)

FELLIPE BASTOS, Ramos - 78 > 78/79

AIMAR, Pablo - AM/CM - 91 > 90 - doing a bad season, weak performances, was injured 3 times already; change to AM or AM/Fwd

REYES, José Antonio - Wing/Fwd - 89 > 90/89 - if he continues his good shape in spring, he goes to 90; change to Wing

DI MARIA, Ángel - Wing/Fwd - 88 > 88/87 - change to Wing; Everyone has a great impression of him. He played very well at the Olympics, no doubts. But, somehow, in Benfica, he doesn't play well. He played very few minutes this season. The problem is this: There's a contrast. He doesn't play for Benfica barely but has played for the Argentina NT. Staying at 88 60% odds, down to 87 40% odds.

MANTORRAS, Pedro - Fwd - 83 > 83/82 - very long and hard injury, plays one match and then stops for months

URRETAVIZCAYA, Jonathan - Fwd - 84 > 85 - change to Wing/Fwd

SUAZO, David - CF - 91 > 91 - missed the early season due to injury, will stay starter

OSCAR CARDOZO, René - CF - 90 > 90/89 - was only starter due to Suazo's injury, won't be starter. Second/Third option for CF

NUNO GOMES, Miguel - CF - 89 > 89 - second/third option for CF

MAKUKULA, Ariza - CF - 87 > 86

PORTO

(3rd place - 7W 3D 2L - 12 games - 24 pts)

HELTON, Arruda - Gk - 90 > 90/91 - Might rise to 91 due to Porto's CL efforts. (Thanks to DerbyPower for the suggestion.)

NUNO, Espírito Santo - Gk - 83 > 84/83 - played a few matches

HUGO VENTURA, Ferreira - Gk - 73 > 73

FUCILE, Jorge - LB/RB – 90 > 90 – has become starting RB (his original position); will change to RB/LB

LINO, Alves - LB/LM – 86 > 86

BENITEZ, Nélson – LB – 85 > 85/84

SAPUNARU, Christian – RB – 87 > 87/88 – started well the season, but the coach has left him out of the last matches. I must see if he plays more as a starter or if he will become second option.

BRUNO ALVES, Eduardo - CB/RB – 92 > 92

PEDRO EMANUEL, Martins – CB – 89 > 89/88 – left out very often by the coach, but seems to have regained his place, this time as a LB. Should he maintain this, he will change to LB/CB and won’t go down.

STEPANOV, Milan – CB – 87 > 86/87 – 0 minutes played

ROLANDO, Jorge – CB – 87 > 88(/89) – I’m surprised he didn’t go up the last time. Must go up this time.

COSTA, Tomás - RM/CM – 86 > 87

LUCHO GONZALEZ - CM/RM – 93 > 93/92 – Not the same Lucho from the last season. Doing very lousy matches, should he continue this way, will go down.

RAUL MEIRELES – CM – 91 > 91

BOLATTI, Mário - CM/DM – 86 > 86/85 – 0 minutes

GUARIN, Freddy – CM – 85 > 85

PELE, Vítor - CM/DM – 83 > 84 – played more in Inter than in Porto, he isn't working enough

MARIANO GONZALEZ, Nicolas - Wing/Fwd – 87 > 87

LISANDRO, López - Fwd – 92 > 92 – might change to Fwd/Wing

SEKTIOUI, Tarik - Fwd/Wing – 89 > 88/87 – Barely any matches due to injury. But he’s fit now and still doesn’t play. Must go down.

Re: Portuguese rating predictions (2008/09)

In my opinion Christian Rodriguez deserves a rise to 90, he is playing all the matches (also CL), he is NT starter for Uruguay, he is also scoring some goals and making assist..Why do you think he'll stay? Is he playing bad games? I'm asking because I haven't seen games this year of Porto..Thanks Mate

Cristian Rodriguez has only got a slight chance of rising to 90. He did only 2/3 good matches, he hasn't been playing that well. 89 is just good enough for him

what do you think rui patricio will get?

i will post sporting tomorrow. rui patricio will get 88 at least

Re: Portuguese rating predictions (2008/09)

This is a good thread. I read through many Country threads and I'm never particularly impressed. It's good that you have chosen the country you live in, and from your comments I can tell you watch a lot of the football. It's always good to hear how the players are actually playing, not just how their stats are. The more little comments beside them the better! Keep it up.

Re: Portuguese rating predictions (2008/09)

I am very impressed with this thread.

It is good to rate players based on what you see them play and not only using statistics.

This forum is more conversant with the EPL so good to see you from Portugal:)

You and Gizb should enlighten us more about this league.

I have some few things to talk about:-

Why are these young players featuring first team action.

Daniel Carrico and Miguel Vitor ? Are they playing because of injuries, or the regular CB's lost form or they are impressing?

Carrico and Vitor could end up with a rating of 82-86 when the Portuguese season ends.

Will you post about players from Leixões ?

thanks ;)

regarding your question:

Daniel Carriço only played because Tonel was injured and Polga was once sent off. Tonel's performances earned him a call-up for the Portuguese NT, but he didn't play. Still, Carriço should reach 84-86 until the end of the season, like I said, he's the third choice.

Miguel Vitor has made good performances in Benfica. He should reach 84-86. He's a certain prospect for the future. A good purchase.

I will post Leixões, Sporting Braga, Nacional da Madeira, Naval and Marítimo between today and tomorrow.

Re: Portuguese rating predictions (2008/09)

Hey, firstly, good job. Portuguese is quite a big league but never seen such detailed stuff here.

Just a few questions about some players i had.. Is Benfica's Pele playing well, and would he be able to be a regular in the side? Oscar Cardozo, you mentioned that he was 2nd/3rd choice but not really starter, is that true? I mean, 2nd choice is pretty much starter. Lastly, Miguel Veloso is quite a sweet prospect, is he really playing so poorly to drop to 90?

to your questions:

Pele - First of all, he plays in Porto ;) . He could be a starter, but Fernando is doing a wonderful season. He is probably (i don't have stats for this) the player from Porto with the most clearances. He is 86 in SM, and he's doing a much better season than Lucho Gonzalez (93). Pele won't be starter, but should get more minutes as the season continues. Shouldn't become more than 85/86 until the end of the season.

Oscar Cardozo - Cardozo is a slow and not so strong player (even though he's 1,90 m tall !). He has an accurate and powerful left foot but isn't good in the air. He has sth, though, that no one in Benfica has better than him - the killer instinct. He is being used more often as a late sub, to kill the matches. He doesn't fit so well in the fast gameplay Benfica does. Suazo is stronger, much quicker and has a good right foot. Cardozo won't hold his 90 like this.

Miguel Veloso - i personally think he is a very skilled player, with a good left foot, a good dribble, even though he isn't particularly strong. Paulo Bento (Sporting's coach) is kinda stupid. He gets mad with a lot of players. Stojkovic, Vukcevic, Yannick, etc... He doesn't seem to like Veloso a lot. Veloso plays very well as a DM and Bento puts him as a LB, on which position he plays badly. If he gets transferred out, it's likelier that he maintains his 91. We'll see.

LEIXÕES

(2nd place - 7W 3D 2L - 12 games - 24 pts)

BETO, Pimparel - Gk - 85 > 86/87 - doing a good season, proving to be one of the best Gk's from this league

BERGER, Hans-Peter - Gk - 83 > 83/82

LARANJEIRO, Nuno - LB/RB - 82 > 84/85

DIOGO LUIS, Miguel - LB - 78 > 79/80

ÉLVIS, Alves - CB - 83 > 85/86

VASCO FERNANDES - CB/DM - 82 > 84/85 - change to RB/CB or RB

NUNO SILVA, Miguel - CB - 82 > 83

JOEL, Ricardo - CB - 80 > 82

HUGO MORAIS, Eduardo - LM/AM - 83 > 85 - change to RM/LM

CASTANHEIRA, Vítor Ilídio - CM/AM - 83 > 82 - I don't know whether he was injured or if he lost influence in the team, but he hasn't played enough.

BRUNO CHINA, Manuel - CM/DM - 83 > 85/86 - starter all the games

PAULO TAVARES, Daniel - CM/AM - 79 > 80

BRAGA, Manuel - CM - 78 > 83/84 - I believe he is dividing his spot with Castanheira, but Braga seems to be the starter.

WESLEY, Lopes da Silva - AM/Fwd - 86 > 87 - 7 goals in 11 games. Leixões's star

NWOKO, Udochukwo - AM/Fwd - 79 > 79/80

DIOGO VALENTE, Jorge - Wing - 83 > 85/86 - Guardian doesn't feature any stats about him, but i found that he was starter for the most of the matches

ZE MANEL, Silva - Fwd/Wing - 84 > 84 - very influent at Boavista in the past, now as he gets older he gets worse. A good player, though.

ROBERTO, Alcantara - Fwd - 83 > 85

MARQUES, Iorlando - CF - 80 > 82/83

i actually didn't like reyes at all before he went to Benfica, but I'm a fan of him now. He started the season very well, being the most influent player of Benfica. But in the last few matches, I noticed that he was giving up on every run down the flank after being touched by a player. He is showing a very weak side of his. But I trust that he will regain his form and I'm quite sure he will become 90 until the end of the season.

After reading your comments on him I'm not so sure but every time I watched Benfica play last year, he played very well and impressed me :)

He was, no doubt, one of Benfica's star players last season, perhaps the star. But I actually didn't watch a lot of last season. Benfica has won very few things in the last decade. Benfica is like the Liverpool of Portugal. Benfica has won the most leagues of all time, has also won the CL twice, but in the last decade they only won 1 championship. I lost my hopes last year, but they were reborn this summer.

But back to your question, Cardozo can be a very good player, but this season he's slow and barely runs. But he's a killer like I said.
