Man City close to League and Cup double

Division 2 side Manchester City play in the World Championship Cup Final tonight against fellow English side Everton. The Light Blues have strengthened their squad in recent weeks, with the signings of Roque Santa Cruz, Lassana Diarra, Craig Bellamy, Matty Upson, Scott Parker, Shay Given and youngster Fabian Delph. The club are also flying high in the league, top by 2 points from Marseille.

Man City have had an eventful passage to the Cup final, beating Maseille 2-0, River Plate 3-0, Fluminese 5-2, Werder Bremen 3-0 (The German side beat them in the Shield semi-final) Roma 2-1, and Benfica 2-0. The clubs have met twice before, with Man City beating Everton 4-2 in the Shield, but Everton won 2-0 in the league, so everything is to play for.

Man City are set to recall their first teamers for the Final after they were rested for the last 2 games. Santa Cruz and Lassana Diarra are cup-tied having played for Blackburn and Portsmouth respectively. Manager james Burrow must choose from either top-scorer Jo, Cup specialist Ched Evans, or recent in-form striker Felipe Caicedo.

In other news, Brazilian striker Jo may be leaving the club, despite being the leading goalscorer. German side Bayern Munchen have expressing an interest in signing him, and the Manchester side may choose to cash in on the Brazilian, who hasnt been that impressive. The club have been linked with David Villa, Adriano, Lukas Podolski and David Trezeguet. Kaspar Schmeichel has been allowed to leave the club after Shay Given was signed from Newcastle.

Reaction from the match tonight, plus news of yet more transfer activity to follow.......

(Btw, this is to publicise one of my quieter setups. Feel free to join)

Caleb takes over the reins at Sevilla

Caleb has taken over Sevilla as the board attempted to breathe life into what is fast turning into a meaningless season for the Spanish outfit. Sevilal currently sit in 11th spot in Division 1, technically safe from relegation and out of the title race.

"We don't have much to strive for this season, to be frank. What I aim to do now is to help the club finish as high as possible in the table whist having an eye on next season." Goal.com was told.

Caleb was said to be keen on strenthening his attacking options up front and has admitted that bids for a couple of players were tabled.

"We are currently looking to bring in a couple of forwards. Names of which I'll prefer not to disclose at the moment."

Man City Update:

Man City lost in the final of the English Cup. The Manchester side were defeated 2-1 by fellow English side Everton. Louis Saha and Tim Cahill scored before half time, with Jo scoring a late consolation. They made up for it with a 3-1 win over Olympiakos, extending their lead at the top to 5 points.

In transfer news, England defender Joleon Lescott has joined Man City from Everton. The player played in the Cup Final but had expressed his desire to leave for City. Leaving the club is Kaspar Schmeichel, who left for SV Mattersburg.

Man City will have to do with Michael Johnson (isuspension) Roque Santa Cruz (suspension) and Joleon Lescott (gentleman's agreement) for their league match against.......EVERTON! The aggregate score between the two clubs currently is 6-5 to Everton. Can Man City level the scores or even win the match-up?

Manager James Burrow said at a press conference today that next Saturdays match against Bayer Leverkusen is a crunch match, as if the Blues win, the title is theirs.

Sevilla completes flurry of signings

New Sevilla manager Caleb has wasted little time in the transfer market, signing 4 new players as the Spanish outfit prepares to end the season on a good run.

German defender Heiko Westermann was signed from FC Schalke 04. Portuguese midfielder Raul Meireles arrived from Sporting Lisbon, while Argentine forward German Denis was poached from Napoli, and Italian veteran Del Piero signed from Wigan after snubbing Werder Bremen.

Said Caleb on his new arrivals.

"I'm pleased with the bunch of them. Denis and Meireles are still struggling with their fitness, I doubt they will make their debuts anytime soon. Westermann might get a look in for us in tonight's match, depending on a late fitness test. Del Piero is looking sharp in training and could feature tonight.

Man City obliterate Everton in vengeance match!

Man City avenged their cup final defeat against everton by thrashing them 4-0 at goodison. The aggregate score now lies at 9-6 to Man City. Goals from Ched Evans, Robinho x2 and Micah Richards scored, all within the first half an hour. Marseille won tonight to move up to 2nd, ahead of Leverkusen who drew. Manchester City have just seven matches left with a five point cushion, with Newcastle their next opponent. If Man City beat Newcastle and other results go their way, they could be 8 points ahead with 6 to play, meaning a win vs Bayer Leverkusen could secure them the title.

Sevilla crush Porto 10-0 to gift Caleb the perfect start!

If the performance of Sevilla against Porto are anything to go by, Sevilla's appointment of Caleb as the new manager looked to have paid off as the latter guided Sevilla to their biggest win of this season thus far. Even more remarkable was the fact in which Sevilla handed Porto a thumping in their own den.

Sevilla had 61% of the possession, 31 shots to Porto's 8. 6 players from the Spanish visitors got their name on the scoresheet, with new signing Del Piero netting a hat-trick.

Porto found themselves down to 10 men after Russia midfield schemer Arshavin was sent off in the first minute. Sevilla took 16 minutes to open the scoring through Brazilian winger Adriano before further goals from Romaric, Fabiano and Del Piero sent them 4-0 up at half time.

The floodgates opened in the second half as Del Piero sealed his hat-trick, Fabiano and Adriano grabbed their second of the game while midfielder Renato and Jesus Navas completed the rout.

10th placed Sevilla now host 5th placed Milan in their next game.

Man City boss rejects Leverkusen

Manchester City boss James Burrow told the press today that the chairman of Bayer Leverkusen had offered him the managers job. Bayer are 7 points behind Man City in the title race, with 7 games left. The job offer was rebuffed and James stays at the helm of the Mancunian side.

In other news, Man City and Sevilla are to play each other in a charity game.

In transfer news, young defender Sam Williamson has been sold to Aldershot for a nominal fee. The 21 year old made 18 appearances for the club, all from the bench. With Javier Garrido, Michael Ball and perhaps Wayne Bridge (If the Chelsea manager responds) all ahead of him, Burrow believed he would benefit from a move away.

Jake Thompson takes over at San Paolo

Jake took on the division 4 challenge today afer leaving FC Porto in another setup after being in charge for 4 seasons.

The manager has already marked his territory with the team by putting in transfer bids already and transfer listing a few of Napoli's players and sending both Victor Sanchez and Dejan Lovren back to Barcelona.

The owner said we are lucky to have Jake here and we are hoping that this last game we can claim a win and bolster the squad over the summer period.

Training is understood to have been moved to a higher level meaning alot more effort put in by the players to pluck out the weak links.

Boca Come Up Trumps in Season Opener

Boca Juniors have started their second season campaign, downing VFB Stuttgart thanks to goals from Leandro Gracian and Jesus Datolo. Cacau grabbed goal for Stuttgart as well.

Gracian struck first in the 20th minute with the attacking midfielder neatly finishing past Jens Lehmann thanks to a pass from Jesus Datolo. Gracian was a real trouble for the defence, twisiting and turning his way through 2 minues later with his shot firing against the bar.

Cacau hit the bar off a 25-yard smash in the 40th and forced Jussi Jaskeleinen to make a great save 2 minutes later. He didnt miss after half-time however, equalising for the German outfit after his miss-hit shot somehow snuck under the keeper.

Scandanavian Magic Downs Hapless Chelsea

Norwegian youngster Per Ciljan Skjelbred proved the difference against Chelsea for Boca Juniors, scoring an amazing hat-trick on his debut. Facin big-name players such as Petr Cech, John Terry, Fernando Torres and Frank Lampard, the 21-year old former Rosenborg midfielder held his nerve to give his side a 3-1 win.

Chelsea striker Jose Fernando Torres conjured up the first chance of the match, somehow firing wide in-front of an open goal. The Argentines made the Londoners pay for their mistake, with Skjelbred climbing high to head home a cross from Pavel Pogrebnyak. The Norwegian seemed happy with a goal on his debut, but he couldnt of dreamed up the things that were to come.

The second half began with even more action with Joe Cole failing to convert another easy chance, much to the frustration of the Chelsea manager. Skjelbred made them pay again 4 minutes later, catching the defence flat-footed and breaking away to score.

Joe Cole struck back in the 66th, finally converting a chance to add some life to the English side. But with 3 minutes left, all hope was lost for the Blue Army, after Per Ciljan Skjelbred broke away after receiving a through-pass in what appeared to be an offside position, racing home and completing the hat-trick.
