Re: Youngsters in Portugal

Carlos Orlando Sa

100pxsportingclubebragakg8.png

Carlos Orlando Sa is a 20 year old Centre Forward/Striker currently playing for Portuguese club Sporting Braga. He has all the attributes of a top striker and has been linked with many of Europe's top clubs. Most notably Chelsea

Youth Career

Carlos Orlando Sa is a local Braga boy. He joined the Braga academy at a young age and has remained there since nurturing his talent at one of Portugal's best academies. At the age of 19 he was then loaned out to Portuguese minnow club Maria Fonte where he was a starter for the whole season and bagged a reasonable 8 goals. This was his turn around point as he then returned to Braga and made a first team claim. On February Fifth 2009 he made his Division one debut with Braga.

Career to date

After his 1st team debut he has seen a bit more first team football but some would argue that he isn't being given a chance as he has only played 4 games for the Braga outfit. Of course he is starting to see more game time but he honestly should be seeing more because of his great talent. Today he came off the bench against a Leixoes team who would of suffered had he been on the pitch for longer because of his height and ability in the air. Again we must question the tactical prowess of Jorge Jesus.

U21 Achievements

Carlos couldn't ask for a better Portuguese U-21 career as he bagged an outstanding hat trick over red hot Spain. This Spain team had some of the best youths in the world yet Orlando Sa toyed with their defence and put three in the back of the net. Of course this is only the start of a great Portuguese U21 career as he will surely feature in more games for them.

National Team Debut

Surprisingly Orlando Sa was called up to the full National Team to play against Finland. This call up was surprising seeing as he only played 3 games for Braga all off the bench. He finally got his chance to show the world what he is made of when he replaced Hugo Almeida on the hour mark. He tormented the Finnish defence and nearly scored a delightful debut goal. Great debut, hopefully this will kickstart his national career and hopefully tell Jorge Jesus that he deserves more of a chance at Braga.

Chelsea Intrest?

During December Orlando Sa was linked to a big money move to Premier League giants Chelsea. The deal was reportedly worth 4 Million pounds. Unfortunately Chelsea were not willing to spend that money on an unknown striker who hadn't even made his debut yet. Probably a wise move on Orlando Sa's part because his chances would have been extremely limited at Chelsea.

Benfica performances at youth level.

This season David Simao has been Benfica's best player so far for Benfica he has taken on the captain's role and has flourished. This season he has appeared 21 times for Benfica and has scored an astounding 14 goals from the Attacking Midfield area. This showcases his eye for goal. He also has great passing ability and has been compared to Xavi in the passing department.

Portuguese Youth Career

David Simao has been ever present in the U16, U17, U18 and U19 Portuguese youth system. He has captained the U16s before and is a regular now at U19 level. He is tipped to make his U21 bow soon. Ambitions in football?

David Simao wants to achieve a lot of great things at Benfica. He has stated that he wants to play for Benfica in first grade and play for Portugal at senior level. He also wants to take Benfica and win the Champions League. High ambitions for a great player.

Re: Youngsters in Portugal

Leandro Pimenta

200pxslbenficalogosvgpm4.png

Leandro Pimenta is a 17 year old midfielder currently under contract at Portuguese giants Benfica. He is a typical midfielder with great vision and passing skills. He also has great going forward skills and occasionally scores the odd goal.

27913hw3.jpg

Youth Career

Leandro Pimenta began his youth career at his local club FC Imortal. He flourished at this club and had a host of other Portuguese clubs chasing his youth signature. In the end he was stuck between signing for FC Porto or Benfica. In the end he chose Benfica because it was close to his village and Porto was way to far for him especially as a 15 year old. He went into the Benfica academy and has since stayed there nurturing his talent. Benfica have done a great job nurturing him.

Benfica Performances at youth level.

Much like David Simao, Pimenta has been an ever present figure in the Benfica reserve team capturing the eye of the first team selectors with his dazzling performances. Despite being 17 he has already appeared on the bench for the Benfica first team but is yet to make his debut. This season he has played 19 times and scoring 1 goal. He has linked well with David Simao in the midfield area and this has been the reason to why Benfica are doing well in the reserve grade.

Portuguese Youth Career.

Leandro Pimenta has been another ever present figure in the Portuguese youth set up. He has featured a total of 25 times for Portugal divided into the U16s, U17s and U18s. He has been tipped to make his U19 bow soon because of his inspiring performances for the Benfica youth team. He has been tipped by his colleagues to make his international debut in the next four years. Thats how highly rated he is amongst the Benfica community.

Leandro Pimenta recently signed a 4 year professional deal with Benfica.

Re: Youngsters in Portugal

Pedro Mendes

150pxsportingclubedepor.png

Pedro Filipe Teodósio Mendes or better know as Pedro Mendes is an 18 year old Centre Back currently playing for Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. He is considered the best youth defender in Portugal at the moment and what better place to develop him then the great Spoting academy.

Youth Career

Pedro Mendes first started playing football when he was just 7 years old. Thats when he joined local club Real Massima. Real Massima over the years has been some what of a feeder club to Sporting providing them with the kind of players like Nani. He was spotted there at a young age and Sporting didn't think twice about snapping him up. He told Sporting this is his club and he wants to play for them. This is the type of attitude that needs to existent in young football players to exceed. He rose through virtually every youth rank at Sporting and has developed as a player.

nmknkl.jpg

First Team

Young Pedro Mendes is yet to feature for the Sporting first team but Paulo Bento does like the look of him. He has been called many times to the Sporting bench but is yet to play. He is apart of the Sporting Champions League campaign so you never know he might get his first opportunity playing in the highest level of football.

Portuguese Youth Career

Pedro has had a great start to his Portuguese youth career. He has played for the Portuguese u17s, U18s and now the U19s. What makes it even better is that he was the captain for the U18s. He is a proven leader at Youth and International level hopefully he will be a great leader in senior level for Sporting.

Re: Youngsters in Portugal

Diogo Rosado

150pxsportingclubedepor.png

Diogo Jorge Rosado (Diogo Rosado) is a 19 year old Attacking midfielder currently on the books of Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. He is considered one of the best talents in the Sporting youth team and Portuguese youth teams. Some consider him as the next Joao Moutinho and Guti.

Youth Career

Diogo Rosado began his career at a young age playing for his local club Peniche. His sterling performances caught the eye of Sporting scouts and was quickly transfered to the Sporting youth academy at the tender age of 11. So far he has progressed greatly through the academy and has gone passed every single stage of the academy earning great respect for his performances. This season will be his last in the reserves for Sporting and I'm 100% certain he will be playing for Sporting senior team next season.

32083.jpg

Senior Career

Diogo Rosado is yet to make his senior debut for Sporting due to their being an immense amount on talent already in the midfield. Although he has made the bench for Sporting many times before. He was one of the 25 players to be listed by Sporting to play in the Champions but again never got his chance. This weekend marks the end of the Portuguese League and with Sporting already having there 2nd place confirmed Diogo Rosado might get his chance to feature along with other great talents.

Portuguese youth

Diogo Rosado has had a busy Portuguese youth career featuring for the U-17s, U-18s, U19s and the U-21s. He has played a handful of games for the U-19s and was called up at just 17 years old. Again he was called up for the U-21s at just the tender age of 18. He is a great player his a great future ahead of him and hopefully one day he can play for the Selacao.

Video of his screamer that won Sporting the youth title.

Re: Youngsters in Portugal

Diogo Viana

200pxfcporto.png

Diogo Filipe Guerreiro Viana or better known as Diogo Viana is a 19 year old Portuguese Attacking right/left wing currently playing for Portuguese giants FC Porto. Diogo Viana is known for his quick runs down the line and great positional play down the flanks. These qualities have seen the label "O novo Quaresma" (The new Quaresma) been used.

Youth Career

Diogo Viana was first introduced to the Sporting academy at the tender age of 11. He quickly established himself throughout all of Sporting's youth ranks and was introduced into the reserve team at 17. This led to the Portuguese U18 coach calling him up to play. He accepted and his dazzling displays for his country didn't go unnoticed as Porto scouts kept an eye on him. Unfortunately he suffered a sever injury which kept him out for 5 months. Luckily he recovered fully and got back to playing football. After great displays in the reserve team this caught Porto's eye even more! Thus came the transfer of Helder Postiga and Porto wanted something to balance the weight. What better then a 18 year old youngster with bags of potential. Thus he made the move up north.

29497.jpg

Senior Career

Diogo Viana has seen little first team action and his most notable appearance was against his former club Sporting in the Calsberg Cup semi final. Sporting went on to win the match 4-1 against mostly Porto reserves but Viana didn't lack confidence and made plenty of runs down the flanks. Now he has been loaned out to Setubal by Porto in order to gain first team experience along with Daniel Candeias. Hopefully Diogo Viana will impress in Setubal and can hold down a starting birth. Then we can truly evaluate his potential. After his loan spell with Setubal he will return to Porto.

Portuguese youth career

Diogo Viana has been an ever present figure from the U16s up until the U19s although he has also been called up to the U21s which is great for a 19 year old. His matches for the Portuguese youth teams really captured Porto scouts attention and hopefully we will see Diogo Viana wearing the national team shirt in the next year or two.

Re: Youngsters in Portugal

Roderick Miranda

200pxslbenficalogosvg.png

Roderick Jefferson Gonçalves Miranda or better known as Roderick Miranda or even better known as Di*ck is an 18 year old Portuguese centre back currently playing for Portuguese minnows;) Benfica. He is considered the brightest gem in Benfica's youth team and has been labeled by Rui Costa as the next Carlos Mozer (Brazilian International played for Benfica, Flamengo and Marseille.)

Youth Career

Miranda started off playing for his local youth team Odivelas. He arrived at the club without knowing how to play football. Once giving him the ball the coaches said he was a natural at his young age and had huge amounts of potential. Miranda played at Odivelas for just one season. He was soon snapped up by Benfica at the age of 9. Up until now he has been in the youth teams of Benfica progressing and progressing further. This season in Benfica's reserve team he played 31/34 matches (Highest in the team along with David Simao, Danilo Pereira and Joao Pereira. He is naturally a CB but was playing in the DM position for Benfica's reserve team. He finished the season with 4 goals. With the form he finished the season on people were considering to do a "Miguel Vitor or a "Daniel Carrico" this season.

27953.jpg

Senior Career

Roderick Miranda is yet to feature in the Benfica first team at senior level at the moment. Many people think his chance his come next year unless Luisao gets sold this year to Fiorentina. He has though made 3/3 appearances for Benfica this pre-season putting in solid performances at CB against FC Sion, Atletico Bilbao and Olhanense. Both he and Miguel Vitor have been very solid at the back. With a coach like Jorge Jesus who has great tactical awareness and knowledge of the game Roderick Miranda can really turn into a great CB. Also people mustn't forget that Benfica have been playing the full squad during this pre-season Saviola, Cardoso, Maxi, Gomes, Aimar etc.

Portuguese Youth Career

Roderick Miranda has been called up to the U-19 Portuguese squad and has been an ever present figure in the centre of defense. The Portuguese U21 coach will hopefully give him a chance when more games come around. He has also stated his ambition to one day play for the Portuguese national team. He has also played for the Portuguese u18s.

Re: Youngsters in Portugal

Also Diogo Viana will be playing in the Eredivise next year with Venlo. Should be a great experience for the youngster and a great place to rack up some game time.

I take it thats on a loan deal then?

Also, great write up on Roderick; seems like a good prospect.

This is a really good thread, looking forward to hearing more. :)

Re: Youngsters in Portugal

Roderick is another talents of Benfica, play all 4/4 games pre-season, not 3, FC Sion, Shakthar, Bilbao and Olhanense.

This season probably won't play very time because Benfica have very CB (Luisão, Miguel Victor, David Luiz, Sidnei).

In youth squad of Benfica he scored a great goal vs FC Porto:
