Decent selection, Martyn Williams cant play 6 though so you'd have to swa him and Worsley around.

Also, isnt Vickery a tighthead?

Good shout on Mears, absolutley immense in the loose.

Yeah but so is Euan Murray, anyway Vickery won't be picked..

Hope Flutey, Ellis and Fitzgerald definately get in.. wouldn't mind seeing Toby Flood in there .. doubtful though..

Also I like Worsley there because he closes down the fly very fast and is a great tackler.. but then Williams aint half bad either.. ;)

Lions have a great side.. well my selection ;):P

I can't wait for the tour!

No English players?

It won't be D'arcy in Centre, it will be between Flutey and Henson most likely Flutey..

I dont know about that, D'arcy is a very good player and O'Driscoll is the definite 13 thus it makes sense to play D'arcy at 12 as they have had a great partnership over the past years.

It's now probably between D'arcy and Flutey with Henson all but ruling himself out by stating he doesnt think he'll be fit to tour.

Re: Lions Tour 2009 Discussion Thread

The lions tour games start today. They play against the Royal 15. Players to look out for are seconds(scored 84tries in provisional level), olivier(kicking flyhalf), pretorius(talented scrumhalf), but the lions should still win.

Prediction: lions 35 rolays 20

Re: Lions Tour 2009 Discussion Thread

Yes and as its the first game they could be rusty. Most of the sa teams would hav played together but the royals and a few others are selected out of a few different provinces. The SA team beat a Namibian team 35-7 yesterday. Weird thing that most players frm namibia team were former south africans like hougaard and welsh

Re: Lions Tour 2009 Discussion Thread

Well there we go, easy job for the Lions!

Well done lads.

Hook played well when called upon. Monye played pretty well and Phillips had a fairly solid game.

Looking good so far, I can imagine they will just be concentrating on the spirit of the team, as the rugby is definately there! :D

Re: Lions Tour 2009 Discussion Thread

Well what a contrast in the opening two games, Im glad the Lions seem to have bucked up their ideas and some have even put their names forward for a test spot. In fact I think a few are inked in eg. BOD, POC, Bowe and Byrne. From what I've seen so far I cant see any of them not starting the 1st test, barring injury. Here is the team I would select as of now.

1. Jenkins

2. Ford

3. Murray

4. AWJ

5. POC

6. Ferris

7. Williams

8. Heaslip

9. Phillips

10. Jones

11. nobody has put their hand up, shane is off form and Monye despite scoring 2 tries looked out of place and was at fault for the Golden Lions try. Plus I dont think he can pass, or he chooses not to. I think Halfpenny or Fitzgerald will take their chances so either of them.

12. Roberts

13. BOD

14. Bowe

15. Byrne

I think ill make my decisions after the Cheetahs game.
