"Romelu Lukaku is the biggest talent in modern football, period."

Youth Career

Romelu started his career with local teams Rupel Boom FC and KFC Wintam.

Scouts from Lierse SK noticed his tremendous talent and added him to their ranks. It didn't take to long however before scouts across Belgium knew him, and at the tender age of 13, RSC Anderlecht brought him and his younger brother Jordan Lukaku (born in 1994) to Brussels.

Both have inherited the footballing genes of their father, Roger Lukaku, who was a prolific striker himself at clubs like KV Oostende, KV Mechelen and Germinal Ekeren.

Jordan Lukaku

Romelu's stats at youth level are impressing, as he scored more goals than he played games:

SK Lierse: 130 goals in 68 games

RSC Anderlecht: 121 goals in 88 games

Romelu managed to score 26 goals in 17 games with Anderlecht's U19's, despite being 4 years younger than his opponents.

RSC Anderlecht

Due to his terrific performances at youth level, a hoard of the world's finest clubs tried to persuade Romelu and his family in moving abroad.

Chelsea FC offered the Lukaku's 1M$ in cash, amongst many other special benefits. Manchester United tried to do the exact same thing as they did with former Lazio prodigy Federico Macheda but failed like their English rivals did.

Real Madrid supposedly made an offer for him too, but there is no confirmation on that.

In the end, the young Belgian decided to stay in his home country.

Romelu signed his first professional contract at RSC Anderlecht the day he turned 16 years old, which saw him tied to the Brussels based club until the summer of 2012.

Eleven days later he made his professional debut in the most exciting game in Belgium since the 1985-1986 season, which was the second leg of a very rare play-off game for the title between RSC Anderlecht and Standard de Liège.

Up until the 2008-2009 season, the Belgian title was won after a normal competition like most countries in Europe. Only when 2 teams tied in points and games won at the top of the league, play-offs decided who'd be crowned champions.

Since the 2009-2010 season, a competition will be played first, and the top 6 advance to a title deciding play-off.

Standard de Liège eventually won the title, but everybody noticed one man that day: Romelu Lukaku.

I don't think many people at first believed this was a 16 year old, but newspapers started to write about him and he was getting known in Belgium.

Romelu Lukaku & Mbark Boussoufa (both RSC Anderlecht)

He played with the first team in pre-season and agreed to a special program which would allow him to finish secundary school and play with the first team occasionally.

His first league minutes in the 2009-2010 season were a substitue appearence against SV Zulte-Waregem on the 22th of August 2009, in which he played 21 minutes and scored 1 minute before stoppage time.

After a few subs, he nailed his first start on the 20th of September against KAA Gent, and since then, he started every game he was able to start and scored in nearly all of them. At the end of the season, Anderlecht finished comfortably at top, with Romelu being the top scorer for the season with 15 goals. Anderlecht won easily in the play-offs, resulting in Romelu's first championship ring.

Between league games, Romelu is also a regular in his teams Europa League squad, which managed to finish first in a group with Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb and Timisoara.

RSC Anderlecht ended up in the Europa League after losing against Lyon in the 4th round of the Champions League qualification. In the second leg of those qualifiers, Romelu also subbed in.

Lukaku was instrumental in their Europa League qualification, as he scored twice in the crucial last game at Ajax.

In February, the team faced Athletic Bilbao in the knockout stages, which saw the two youngest players in the Europa League face each other (Lukaku for Anderlecht, Iker Muniain for Athletic Bilbao). Anderlecht demlished Bilbao 5-1 on aggregate (Lukaku scored once), earning them yet another two games, against German giants HSV. In those two games, both teams were very equal, but HSV was the luckiest of the two, winning 6-5 on aggregate (Lukaku scored once again). This ended Anderlechts European campaign of this season, in which Romelu scored 4 times.

Belgium

Romelu Lukaku progressed even faster through the ranks of Belgium than he did with RSC Anderlecht.

As a 15 year old, he played with the U19's, but that didn't last long, as a call-up for the U21's quickly followed due to his performances with Anderlecht's senior team.

He now has 4 caps for the U21's to his name, with 1 goal.

In november 2009, Belgian newspapers started a big debate whether or not Romelu should be called up for Belgium's senior team.

Belgium has a very good and young team, but due to tactical errors from formers coaches and the abscence of a quality striker, the national team is struggling.

Belgium's best player of all time and RSC Anderlecht legend Paul Van Himst already declared Romelu had to play for the national team, because he kept Tom de Sutter out of the Anderlecht team, yet, De Sutter plays up front for Belgium. There is also the little matter that Romelu simply is too good to not play.

Belgian manager **** Advocaat eventually called him up for a friendly in Brussels against Croatia on the 3th of March 2010. A bit surprisingly Romelu started the game and earned his first cap. Belgium lost that game undeservedly with 0-1, but Lukaku made quite the impression against experienced defenders like Simunic, Krizanac and Corluka. On the 19th of May 2010, Romelu started his second game in a row, a friendly.

This was the first game under new head coach Georges Leekens, after former manager Advocaat abandonned Belgium in a disgraceful way in order to coach Russia. The 2-1 win against Bulgaria was deserved, and Lukaku looked very good, having no trouble against these kind of players. In the future, Romelu is almost assured of a spot in the Belgian National Team

Future

The future looks as bright as it can be for Romelu Lukaku.

He will stay with RSC Anderlecht until he is 18/19 years old.

It has become quite the job to list the teams interested in him. Teams like Real Madrid and Chelsea showed concrete interest, but no agreements have been reached. Romelu is a self proclamed admirer of Drogba and Chelsea, therefore the London side seem favorites to snap him up when he's available.

Re: Romelo Lukaku

I've found some stats from the last 4 years:

He started his youth career at Lierse SK where he scored 130 goals in 68 games.

He transferred to Anderlecht at the age of thirtheen and scored 121 goals in 88 games.

Also, AC Milan have let their interest registered with Anderlecht for Lukaku.

Re: Romelo Lukaku

Romelo made hid debut last weekend in the playoff final and he was crackin good.

His first touch on the ball was a fabulous dribble.

He is the second youngest player on the game now, and TBH, Noble-Lazarus (the youngest) plays for a far, far worse team.

Expect him to start next season for Anderlecht, even in the Champions League qualifiers.

Re: Romelo Lukaku

I still find it odd that some threads get 50 replies on a player not on the DB, 12 years old, etc, etc.

Romelo is the second youngest player on the game and a great talent, yet no one seem to care.

Well, anyways, Man City are after him.

Price tag: 11M. (Euro)

great find :) repped :)

also' date=' who is the youngest player on the database?[/quote']

Reuben Noble Lazarus, a shocker of a player.

Abdel Zizi has a lot of integrity, so I would take his word for it when he says Lukaku has a lot of talent.

Re: Romelo Lukaku

Sports director of Anderlecht, Herman Van Holsbeeck, has said today that he wants more young players to come into the first team.

We already knew that Lukaku would be in the A-team next season, but now Herman said that he would be surprised do not see him getting a lot of minutes.

I honestly think that Romelo might be the second or third striker fro Anderlecht next year.

De Sutter is number 1, but Frutos is extremely injury prone, Boelykin and Vlcek are very bad and are both leaving and Matias Suarez is a flop.

Also, Real Madrid is said to have given up on signing the striker, as he has penned a deal with Anderlecht and is getting minutes.

Florentino Perez however said that he has 2 Belgian's in highest regard (the other one most possitive Eden Hazard).

Re: Romelo Lukaku

Yet another sensational peace of news regarding supertalent Lukaku.

According to 2 Belgian newspaper today, well yesterday, Barcelona is looking to acquire Lukaku's services.

Very sensational is that they are prepared to give Anderlecht 2 Barca B players (Xavi Torres is 1 probably, maybe Pedro is the other) and the option of a one year loan deal for a player of Anderlecht's choice.

They even want to loan out Bojan for a year, but Bojan doesn't want to go to Anderlecht.

Barca is looking to loan out Bojan to any team of a fairly good stature.

Anderlecht do play in Europe next season, maybe even CL.

Unfortunatly, it's in the (written) newspapers, and I don't have a payed account to look up the articles.

I'll try my best to give some sort of proof.

Gozgoz' date=' they don't want to loan out Bojan just to get Lukaku. They just want to loan out Bojan period.

There was talk of him in the Asenjo deal, in the Forlan deal, in an Aguero deal, in a Villa deal....[/quote']

Exactly, he's being used to magnify a potential deal

Re: Romelo Lukaku

Lukaku subbed in after 69 minutes yesterday and scored in the 89th minute his first div 1 goal.

Anderlecht won 0-2 at Zulte Waregem.

Re: Romelo Lukaku

It was actually Romelo's second cap for the U-21's.

He made his debut last week after being subbed on for 24 minutes in the 1-0 win over Malta.

As you said, he played 19 minutes today and scored in a 2-0 win over Slovenia.
