Birmingham City F.C - The Race To The EPL

Trevor Francis. Steve Bruce. Alex McLeish. All names of managers who have previously managed Birmingham. All recognisable to the Birmingham City faithful. All were unsuccessful in their managerial careers. After a series of meetings amongst the Birmingham City backroom staff, a unanimous decision was made to appoint, Veteran Mancunian Manager Adam Selby as their new first-team coach till the end of the season. Unknown in the Coca Cola Championship, Selby's previous success had been in Spain where he took Division 2 side Zaragoza to Championship & Domestic success.

After Selby expressed his desire to be managing back in England, Birmingham were quick to offer him a lucrative contract to lure, Selby to manage the Brummies until 2012. After landing from a 2 Hour Flight, Selby was unavailable for comment, but his agent stated that Selby was overwhelmed to be back in England managing a team as prestigious as Birmingham City. His agent also stated that he is ready to take the club to the English Premier League, and for that to happen changes will be imminent. And Selby kept to his word, and after only 30mins of taking over at St.Andrews, he made use of time and secured the loan signing, of Manchester City youngster Daniel Sturridge who join's till the end of the season.

Birmingham City F.C - The Race To The EPL

After Selby was appointed new first team coach, yesterday afternoon, Selby and his backroom staff have been busy at work in trying to bring new faces in and securing transfer and loan deals ahead of the upcoming season. In Selby's first press conference he yet again stated his desire at taking Birmingham City to Division 2 & Domestic success. Also, Selby has stated that the Brummies have adopted a youth policy, and instead of bringing in all experienced players, The club have attempted to bring in a mix of young and old, who can all mature at the club and lead Birmingham City to success. Early Reports have suggested that Selby has looked to Spain and Brazil for some of his talent, with various players being linked with Transfer moves to Birmingham City. Finally, Birmingham City have announced they are to extend their sponsorship deal with F&C Investments for another two years to the delight of the Birmingham City players & backroom staff.
