Sao Paulo Win Division 1

After a hard, gruelling season, Sao Paulo have won the Brazilian Division 1 with one game remaining. They travelled to Santos last night knowing that the three points would guarantee them the league, and a Humberlito Borges brace did just that. Captain Andre Dias lifted the trophy for Sao Paulo to the delight of the travelling fans. Here are the end of season awards:

Defender of the Year - Goncalves Andre Dias

The defender has been a regular feature in the Sao Paulo backline, and despite being great defensively, the defender has also been effective going forward, getting 2 goals and 10 assists.

Midfielder of the Year & Player of the Year - Gennaro Gattuso

Signing from Milan at the beginning of the season, Gennaro Gattuso has adapted well to the Brazilian league. The Italian has played 31 league games out of 35 so far, chipping in 14 goals and 6 assists, winning the man of the match award on five occasions. His average rating for the season is 7.77. Gattuso also scored four goals in Sao Paulo's 9-1 victory over Flamengo in June.

Striker of the Year - Humberlito Borges

Not only is Borges Sao Paulo's top goalscorer this year, his goals to game ratio is also the best in the league. The Brazilian has scored 19 goals in 31 appearances this year, picking up the man of the match award eleven times. Borges also showed his class in the SMFA Cup, netting a hat trick against FC Schalke 04 in the group stages.

Young Player of the Year - Jonathan de Guzman

Jonathan de Guzman joined Sao Paulo with a big reputation and he didn't disappoint. Alongisde Gennaro Gattuso in midfield, de Guzman grabbed three goals and seven assists in his 29 games this year. The Dutchman has three years left on his £21,000 deal, and is expected to sign a five year contract in the coming days.

Sivasspor under guidance from new manager Velibor Milutonovic won a dramatic last day victory against giants Fenerbache to become the first team outside of the big three (Galatasry, Fenerbache & Besiktas) to win the Turkcell Super Lig. Manager Velibor hailed his new team "true champions" and mentioned their determination and previous guidance under their last coach as reason's for succes "the mental preparation in the team before each game is like nothing I have witnessed before, the last manager clearly understood team ethos it's a shame he could'nt be round here today to see it".

Sivasspor players pay homage to the travelling faithful

The final day of the league saw Fenerbache top the table a point ahead of Sivasspor and Besiktas (Sivasspor ahead of the latter by goal difference). The three teams needed a win to guarentee the championship but Besiktas needed the other teams to draw but thankfully a moment of madness in the Fenerbache defense say veteran Mohamed Ali Kurtulus score a stunning volley, a goal truly fitting of a championship deciding match.

Re: Gold Championship 57

Mr HoW's Sevilla achieved the clubs biggest trophy this year by winning the SMFA Shield. Let's see how they did this!

The First Round against FC Twente

Sevilla started at away ground they first game, and they easily won their game by 2-0 thanks to Lautaro Acosta (17th minute) and Enzo Maresca (33rd minute).

Two weeks later, with an advantage of 2-0, the spanish side started their first home match with high commitment. Italian midfielder Enzo Maresca quickly secured the lead in the 15th minute, then 11 minutes later, he scored another one made it 2-0. Young starler Lautaro Acosta scored in the 34th minute, and José Crespo scored the last one in the 57th minute and with this, Sevilla clearly went through with an aggreagate of 6-0.

Second Round against German up-coming giants: VfL Wolfsburg

Mr HoW's side started at home ground, and just one goal made the difference: Diego Capel scored in the 48th minute and they won by 1-0 their home match.

2 weeks later, Sevilla travelled to the Volkswagen Arena. Both sides had good chance to qualify to the next round. Croatian youngster, Mario Mandzukic broke the silent draw with a good shot, and almost fired Sevilla into the next round. However, Wolfsburg's German midfielder, Sebastian Schindzielorz scored in the 87th minute, but this was only an equaliser goal for this match, the Spanish side went through by 2-1.

The Third Round against Vitória de Guimares

The portuguese team travelled to Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán and tried to stop Sevilla, but Diego Perotti scored a fast goal in the 8th minute, and then in the 26th, Mario Mandzukic finished the mission and made it 2-0, showing the opponent: they will win. Even Fernando Navarro's red card wasnt able to let down Sevilla, they played 30 minutes with ten man on the field, but won their home game.

The away game was almost the same for Sevilla, an easy 2-0, goals scored by Lautaro Acosta and Federico Fazio, both scored in the 2nd half, and with this, Sevilla went through by 4-0.

Sevilla's wonderkid: Lautaro Acosta

Quarter Final against argentinian Independiente

Sevilla's trip to the Doble Visera was a real shock. Marcelo Diaz and Lucas Mareque scored one-one goal, and Sevilla was almost down. Sevilla's youngster Diego Capel was able to save his team with scoring a goal, but Sevilla's situation was a little bit hard to the next match.

At home ground, Sevilla players knew they must win, they must score. They started the match with commitment and the two youngsters Lautaro Acosta and Mario Mandzukic scored two quick goal in the end of the first half, and with this, Sevilla secured their place in the semi final.

Diego Capel after his valuable away goal

The Semi Final against Bayer Leverkusen

A strong opponent was the only step from the final, and Leverkusen was eager to avoid defeat this match at away ground, but Mario Mandzukic's valuable goal was enough for a confortable 1-0 for Sevilla.

The BayArena was the really last step for Sevilla, and they are in the final. They arrived with 1-0 from home ground, but Leverkusen still had a good chance too. In an exciting game Luis Fabiano has got the decision, he scored the only goal for Sevilla, and with a 2-0, they advanced into the final!

Luis "Fabouloso" Fabiano

The FINAL against Italian Udinese

Full house at the Hampden Park, two sides, and only one of them can win the cup. Adriano Correira in the 39th minute opened the goal scoring, made it 1-0 to Sevilla. Just two minutes later, Jon Dahl Tomasson made it to 1-1, the match was draw again. In the second half, Sevilla started fairly better, and Luis Fabiano scored one in the 55th and one more in the 65th minute, almost decided the cup winning with this. But, just to be sure, Frederic Kanouté made it to 4-1 in the 70th minute, and this means: SEVILLA WON THE CUP!

"This is excellent! I'm really proud of my boys. They have done what we have dreamed of! We really wanted to win, and with luck and with excellent players and excellent playing, I think we deserved the cup. I must congratulate all of my players, and would like to thank all of our fans. Without them, we wouldnt be able to be here today!" said Mr HoW

Re: Gold Championship 57

Wow!!!!! I got some money from my boss whoooopeeeee!!!!:P.

As I am always looking for a good challenge on here, I saw Morton in the Scottish Second with no resources, no players to talk about and genuinely was going to be a task to get them into the First Division. Well the first season has just finished and after looking like I would secure a play off place with my bunch of raggamuffins :D, they fell apart in the home straight and we got edged out of the play offs. The good news is that I have accrued 7.3 million, 1.5 million of that coming from the chairman?????? this morning so I will set about my task for the coming season of getting this roughshod crew into the First Division. :D.

Round One

"Don't Dare Underestimate Us!"

A lackluster Bayern side where forced to conceded to an awe inspiring performance from Cameroonian hitman Herve Tum. Tum (30) grabbed a brace for away team Sivasspor as they totally dominated Bayern infront of a disillusioned Andrew Lupton who fielded a weak side. Sivasspor manager Velibor Milutinovic declared "I think he will think twice before starting fringe player's against us again, total lack of respect towards my players who are in their own right Turkish Champions". He then went onto state "Manchester United can expect the same a rough time when they play us at home, it shall be a game the players will aspire towards".

Re: Gold Championship 57

Real Madrid edged a tight SMFA Cup final 2-1 against Manchester United at Signal Iduna Park tonight to regain the trophy they won last season under their previous manager. A brace from Robinho gave Madrid the win despite Owen Hargreaves' netting for the Red Devils. Real had already played 4 of the group games before Harvey took over, but the English manager insisted this is his honour and he will, in his own words, decapitate anybody who disagrees :P

Paris Saint-Germain 6 9

Olympiacos 6 8

Bayer Leverkusen 6 3

Real's second team were employed by Harvey and they proved their manager right as they saw off a strong Benfica side in the home leg. Pedro Munitis opened the scoring midway through the first half latching on to Joaquin's through ball and slotting the ball past Quim. Fernando Belluschi notched Madrid's second on 72 minutes with a fine solo run and a strike to match. The Argentine taking satisfaction in victory over once fierce rivals in the Portuguese league. Benfica played much better in their home tie but the two goal deficit was too much for them to overcome. Pedro Munitis's 4th minute goal seemed to all but end the tie, but Benfica equalised 20 minutes later. Second half goals from Higuain and Cardozo for their respective teams ensured a 2-2 draw on the night, and Real profressing to the quarters with a 4-2 aggregate win.

The quarter final draw was kind to Real who dodged opponents such as Manchester United, Milan and Barcelona, but Rubin Kazan were not to be underestimated. Real again played the first leg at the Bernebeu but their gameplan was somewhat undone when Rubin took a 19 minute lead through Massimo Ambrosini. The Russians went into the break infront but their lead didn't last long in the second period. Mathieu Bodmer the unlikely scorer for the home side. A stunning late winner from Gonzalo Higuain gave Madrid a lead to take to Russia but it was by no means as comfortable as they would have liked. For the first time in the competition, Harvey took his strongest team to Russia knowing the tie was still finely in the balance. Added with that the league form being so poor, he knew this was his biggest chance of silverware. Rubin more than held their own against the Spanish giants but an Arjen Robben header on the stroke of half time gave them a 3-1 aggregate lead and paved the way to the draw for the semi finals.

Once more the Bernebeu staged the first leg but a break in the trend came with Madrid tasting defeat, and a convincing one. Sevilla took a 2-1 lead into half time thanks to goals from Cesar Villaluz and Correia Adriano - Gonzalo Higuain notched Madrid's goal. 10 minutes into the second half Sebastien Squillaci heaped more misery on the holders and they held on for a 3-1 win. Los Merengues needed a massive performance in Seville, and had to score at least three goals. Robinho netted before the break to get the first, but Sevilla still looked fairly comfortable. The Brazilian wasn't done yet however, and he doubled his tally just before the hour mark to really set the cat amongst the pigeons. As things stood, Sevilla would progress on away goals, and the travellers needed another. Thankfully for them, it came 16 minutes from time from Sergio Aguero. They held on for the 3-0 victory and a dramatic comeback to book themselves into the final.

The two giants of European football met at Borussia Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park in what was anticipated to be a great final. The first half failed to live upto expectation though and it was goalless at the break. The two sides did have chances though. Ryan Giggs blazed over in front of an open goal, while Sergio Aguero rattled the crossbar for the Spaniards. The game was crying out for a moment of magic and it arrived in the shape of Brazilian Robinho. The winger cutting inside from the left and curling a great shot just under the bar and into the top corner. As United tried to regain some momentum, they found themselves two behind and it was Robinho again finding the top corner, although this time he struck the ball with venom giving Van Der Sar no chance. Owen Hargreaves pulled one back for the Red Devils on 69 minutes but Madrid held on for a very famous victory.

Things are a breeze at Inter

When Barry Golden was brought in at Internazionale last week, the objective given was simple. Get us back to where we belong. Following Harry Richer’s shock relegation of Inter last season and his immediate sacking, Golden has to get them promoted as Champions this season. It is four out of four so far and the run is likely to continue tonight at Lecce. Golden managed to keep hold of the star players at the club stating that next season they will be back and fighting for the Serie A title once again. One draw away from home to Cagliari is the only loss of points so far this season and Golden has won all four since he has been in charge. Inter will be strong favourites to win the Italian Shield and Cup as well as sure in favourites to win Serie B. Raul Gonzalez has been the playmaker this season with two goals and six assists in six matches this season so far. Juan Manuel Mata who is injured at present has scored four times in five matches and will be a vital asset to Inter’s title challenge this season. He will return to the action in approximately eight days. Marco Borriello is another key man in this seasons promotion push and he has got a goal and four assists so far in the three games he has started. More to come later in the season.
