Olympique Lyonnais 3-2 FC Lorient

Alessandro Mancini 79'

Vagner Love 83'

Lyon were made to work hard last night against an in-form Lorient, who despite being 17th, had won 3 consecutive games prior to their trip to Stade Gerland. After a poor run of results, Lyon have now notched up six league wins, which has moved them from 15th to 5th, though they are level on points with 4th place Marseille and 3rd place Nantes. OGC Nice seem to be running away with the league after opening up a gap of 13 points just after the mid way point of the season. After grabbing the 89th minute winner in a 1-0 result against Sochaux on Wednesday night, it was again Vagner Love who stole the show late on.

Lyon made one of the best starts of the season in terms of chances and possession, but neither Michael Ballack, Rafael Van Der Vaart or Vagner Love took the chances that came their way. Despite making all the early going, Lyon conceded the first time they were asked to defend. Hugo Lloris did well to parry Michael Bradley's powerful effort but Kevin Gameiro was on hand to tap home the rebound. A fine header on 40 minutes from Pernambucano Juninho ensured the teams went in to the break level.

Lorient started the second period well, and they reaped the rewards just before the hour mark. Young French forward Kevin Gameiro got his second , and was really impressing on the night. Harvey refused to make any changes in personnel, but he did ask for a higher tempo and a more direct style of play. Just before 80 minutes, Alessandro Mancini finally equalised for the home side. The linesman could, and possibly should have raised his flag but it stayed down and Mancini took full advantage. The incentive was now firmly with Lyon. Rafael Van Der Vaart narrowly hit his shot over before Vagner Love scored a dramatic winner. The 25 year old Brazilian found himself unmarked on the edge of the area and coolly finished past Fabien Audard to send the crowd into a frenzy. The referee blew the whistle and the Lyon faithful were clearly delighted with the 'never-say-die' attitude that they've shown over recent weeks.

Lyon Update

Lyon are on a high after their recent good run of form, taking 18 points from a possible 21. Their last win came on Wednesday night when they beat table toppers OGC Nice 5-1 at Stade de Gerland. That win lifted them from 5th to 2nd in the league, though they still lie a huge 12 points behind Nice with 14 games to go. Harvey blames a "disastrous" start for the gap but is hopeful that a late charge for the title could still be on. He realises it is Nice's title to throw away at this stage but Lyon and the likes of Marseille and Grenoble are looking to capitalise on any slips. Harvey will name an unchanged team tonight for the away fixture at AS Monaco, despite worries over the fitness of Vagner Love. Sidney Govou will start on the left again, from which he grabbed his hat trick and the man of the match award on Wednesday night. Here's the team that will start tonight:

Transfer News

There have been many comings and goings at Lyon in recent weeks. Swedish midfielder Kim Kallstrom moved to Bolton Wanderers for £30M. Kallstrom wasn't in Harvey's first team plans and the money from that transfer was spent on youth players. Hugo Lloris also left the club, going to AC Milan. Harvey ideally wanted to keep the talented goalkeeper, but Lloris signalled his intention to leave. Abbiati and Song came in as part of the deal, which also saw Theo Walcott join Lyon on loan. Being in so many competitions, the Lyon manager explained that providing cover for other positions was key in his decision to allow Lloris to leave. Other players brought into the club are:

Osorio Johnny

Stanley Chinedu Ihugba

Shinji Okazaki

Victor Ibarbo

Tuomo Turunen

Alexis Machuca

Elkin Blanco

Joao Rojas

Takashi Inui

Juan Barros

Fabio Coentrao

Hernan Perez

Ugur Demirkol

Christopher Drazan

Torric Jebrin

Paul Slane

Re: Gold Championship 58

Just taken over at Everton. What a basketcase. Squad of only 23, mostly unfit and the club sitting last on the table.

Thankfully the playing list still has much of it's original class along with a disgruntled Pirlo and there's 20M to spend on adding depth. With only 10 rounds of the season played there's no way we're going down. :D

Re: Gold Championship 58

End of Season Review

celtic_fc_logo.jpg

Season two ended in mixed feelings for fans as the side only finished 3rd in the league but won the Scottish Cup aswell as reaching the final of the Scottish Shield. As mentioned previously Celtic only finished 3rd in the league which would usually mean no European football next season. However, luckily for Celtic beacuse of their Scottish Cup triumph the Glasgow team will be competing in the SMFA Shield next season.

fredericochavesguedes8426473pa.jpg

Brazilian forward Fred has bagged 6 goals in 6 games for the Hoops since arriving from Bologna. Only 1 off his season best.

Celtic's poor league posistion was mainly due to the managerial round-a-bout at the club. No fewer than 6 manager were in charge during the season. When current manager Patrick Coll took charge of the team on new year's day 2nd place looked unreachable. However a 14 game unbeaten run helped the side push Aberdeen all the way but even Celtic's manager admitted Aberdeen were too good;

All credit must be given to Aberdeen. We had a fantastic spell near the end of the season but Aberdeen were equal to that and in the end got their reward. However next season I believe we have a squad capable to challenge Rangers and, now, Aberdeen for the title.

The signs are promising though. In the short space of time Coll has been in charge, he has managed to bring back the winning mentality along with signing some high profile names such as Chaves Fred, Danny Kovermans and most recently Marko Pantellic. Only time will tell if the team and manager are capable of repeating last season's form.

Re: Gold Championship 58

My Boca Juniors is worth 358M after the final signing of 21 year old Ribeiro Alrton (87) for 11.9M he should do well in the cups for the team and may even loan him out for game time.

Still looking for more deals bar that have some nice players 88+ I can offer out.
