Re: CAF Champions League Thread

Bit of a late update, not that any of you are reading:p.

Group A

ZESCO United 1-1 Kano Pillars; scorers were Rodgers Kamwandi(Zesco), Hilary Chukwu(Pillars)

Al Merreikh 0-0 Al Hilal

So all square in Group A after 1 game each.

Group B

Monomtapa United 2-1 Etoile du Sahel; scorers Kamungenga, Nyandaro(United), Akiachi(Sahel)

TP Mazembe 2-0 Heartland; Mputu, Kaliyutuka.

So Mazembe top the group after 1 game on goal difference, followed by United. With the Nigerians Heartland, who knocked out last years runners up, bottom.

The next games are,

Al Hilal vs ZESCO United, 31/07/09

Kano Pillars vs Al Merreikh, 02/08/09

Heartland vs Monomtapa, 01/08/09

Sahel vs Mazembe, 01/08/09

So group matches will continue until late September with both home and away legs to be played.

So Mputu, now on 4 goals is joint 2nd top scorer behind Idahor.

The 2009 final, played over 2 legs was won by TP mazembe.

the 1st leg was a 2-1 home win to Heartland of Nigeria. Mazembe won the 2nd leg 1-0 therefore winning by away goals. They were crowned the 2009 CAF Champions League champions, winning their 3rd title. Top scorer was Dioko Kaluyituka of TP Mazembe who scored 8 goals, 1 more than Idahor of Al Merreikh.

Re: CAF Champions League Thread

The 58 teams entered into the 2010 competition have been narrowed down to two groups of 4 teams by a process of knockout stages. The groups are as follows:

Group A

Dynamos (Zimbabwe)

ES Setif (Algeria)

Esperence ST (Tunisia)

TP Mazembe (DR Congo)

Group B

Al Ahly (Egypt)

Heartland (Nigeria)

Ismaily (Egypt)

JS Kabylie (Algeria)

As usual, each club will play home and away fixtures with each team in their group; winners and runners up progress to the semi finals. So far, each team has played 2 group games.

ES Setif 0-1 Esperence ST (Wadji Bouazzi)

Dynamos 0-2 TP Mazembe(Given Singuluma x2)

Heartland (Bello Musa Kofarmata) 1-1 Al Ahly (Mohamed Aboutrika pen)

Ismaily 0-1 JS Kabylie (Essaid Belkalem)

Esperance ST (Oussama Darragi) 1-0 Dynamos

TP Mazembe (Bedi Mbenza, Tersor Mputu pen) 2-2 ES Setif (Nabil Hemani x2)

JS Kabylie (Fares Hamiti) 1-0 Heartland

Al Ahly (Mohamed Talaat, Wael Gomaa) 2-1 Ismaily (Mohamed Abougrisha)

So Esperence top group A with defending champions TP Mazembe in 2nd place. Algerians Kabylie top group B behind 6 time winners Al Ahly.

The next set of group games are scheduled to be played between 13-15 August as follows:

Dynamos vs ES Setif

TP Mazembe vs Esperence ST

Ismaily vs Heartland

JS Kabylie vs Al Ahly
