Stoke City Match Report:

Stoke City have been consistent this season always being in the top 10 and giving two of the top clubs in England a hard fought match losing to Manchester 2-1 in a close game and tying with Chelsea. Rohit Gautam has praised the way his players fought and have come together this season. Many believe Rohit's winning ways and consistency is due to the players he has brought from various nations that he believes will help the club.

"Our scouting director Sam Mintz has brought in young talent that will definitely grow into stars.

Stoke City vs Bolton Wanderers

3-1

Stoke City have seen a new side of Ricardo Fuller after his benching due to injury and inconsistency on the field and has come back to the starting role with fire in his eyes. He has gotten the nod from Jamaica and played for his national team with great skill and many feel he is rejuvenated.

Stoke City began the match quickly with another youngster turning heads in Freddy Adu who many thought his growth stopped in Benefica, who helped bring Stoke City back in the game after a quick strike in the 14th minute by Nicky Hofs. Freddy Adu scored in the 16th minute with great control from a cross to hammer the ball home. Adu's hot streak continued in the 21st minute where he again scored a spectacular goal, giving Stoke the 2-1 heading into halftime. The second half Bolton where pinned unable to make any good chances while Fuller scored in the 51st minute with a cracking shot that sent a statement to everyone. Stoke held the lead 3-1 and got 3 points to bring them to 6th.

"Great match by Freddy Adu and Fuller, I believe these two can be the foundation of the clubs new glory said Rohit Gautam quickly after the match.

Milan Latest

Milan's good form came to an end as they were handed their first defeat under Dan Walmsley after 18 games by Catania at the San Siro. A 3-0 defeat at home was a stark contrast to the solid defensive displays of the title favourites but all good things must come to an end. Perhaps even more shockingly was a follow up defeat, this time away to Genoa at the cost of a 2-1 scoreline. Milan must get things back on track to maintain their top spot in Serie A...

Tonight, Gremio are welcomed to Italy in the 2nd Round 2nd Leg of the SMFA Shield in which milan have a 3-2 advantage to begin with. A tasty Italian Shield Semi-Final encounter with Roma is now just a week away as Walmsley looks to progress to his first final with the Rossoneri...

Milanpaper-1.jpg

Walmsley has asked the Milan faithful to make the San Siro a daunting place for away teams to travel to especially in tonight's SMFA Shield encounter.

Toon Defeat Boro In Tyne-Tees Derby!

newcastlehomeshirt0709.jpg125px-Newcastle_United_crest.png4-1 middlesbrough%20badge.gifMiddHSS0708.thumbnail.jpg

A bad run of results for Newcastle United finally came to an end on Wednesday night after they beat fellow relegated Middlesbrough at St. James Park. Newcastle lost two consecutively before Wednesday night, and have lost 5 games all season, all being by one goal. Fans were pessimistic about their chances last night against a strong, more in-form Boro team who were level on points with the Magpies.

After keeping an unchanged team for several games, manager Jack Harvey opted to change from the usual 4-2-3-1 formation to a 3-4-1-2. Aleksandr Kherzakov was brought forward to partner Owen in attack, while Uruguayan playmaker Ignacio Gonzalez came in for Damien Duff who dropped to the substitutes bench. Duff's absence meant that Javier Garrido was employed as a left midfielder instead of his usual role as left back. The match itself started fiercely, with both teams creating chances to get ahead. Nicky Butt was given plenty of time to pick his spot but failed to take the chance. It was then Middlesbrough's turn to attack, when Stewart Downing tried his luck from twenty yards but his right foot effort went wide of the mark. Julio Arca then crashed an effort against the bar three minutes later. The Argentine was looking to continue his scoring form after getting on the scoresheet in their previous match against Peterborough United. The deadlock was finally broken on 9 minutes, when Toon captain Nicky Butt athletically met the cross of Garrido with an acrobatic overhead kick. The ageing midfielder was rolling back the years, remembering his similar goal in his United days against West Ham in the early naughties. It was Butt's second goal of the season and he was clearly delighted with the opener.

Ignacio Gonzalez then doubled Newcastle's lead with a fantastic header that left Ross Turnbull flat-footed. The loyal home fans were thankful to have something to celebrate after a tough few weeks for the club. Russian striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov capitalised on a spill from Turnbull to make it three just before 30 minutes. Turnbull did well to save the initial effort but could have possibly parried it wide rather than at the feet of the Russian forward. Kerzhakov was brought in by Harvey to score goals, but was asked to play behind the lone striker in previous games. His performance last night suggests he'll be partnering Owen on Saturday at Shorpe, looking to add to his tally of 3 goals this season. Typically, Newcastle chose not to do things the easy way. 3-0 up and looking comfortable, they failed to defend in their own six yard box, and the ball eventually fell to Stuart Downing who poked past Steve Harper just before half time. The cheers around St. James Park were less emphatic as the teams went in at half time. Surely not another collapse for the Magpies.

A quiet opening to the second period was brought into life by Michael Owen's attempts to imitate Nicky Butt's goal with an overhead kick, but this one flew wide of the post. The league's top goalscorer however wasn't about to miss out on the action. He added Newcastle's 4th of the game, and his 13th of the season so far. Owen demonstrated the pace that once set fear into every defender's heart as he ran at the Boro defence before lashing home powerfully. At 75 minutes, Harvey made a slight tactical change, instructing his team to just protect the lead. They did so successfully and the final result at St. James Park was Newcastle 4-1 Middlesbrough.

After the game, Harvey said "It was an important win for us tonight after struggling in recent weeks, and obviously with it being a derby there is an added sense of satisfaction. I didn't think there was too much difference between the sides today in all honesty, we just took our chances and Middlesbrough didn't." On man of the match Aleksandr Kerzhakov, he stated, "He was excellent today. I've been asking him to play behind Michael in previous matches so he had a point to prove to me today and he proved it very well."

Aldershot came into this game at 13th.Ryan Clarke said he planned to finish higher and many fans knew that a win in this game would be vital to whether they would finish higher.Morecambe came into this fighting it out at the top of the table with all the big gun.Not many people expected Aldershot to deliver a win.

At the start neither side wanted to commit to an attack and looked happy to sit back a wait for a counter attack chance.Aldershot started to control the game and passing aorund the Morecambe back 4.On the 39th minute Aldershot got their reward when Yevhen Selezniov managed to run theough a gap and prove why Ryan rates him as his best striker. On the 43th minute Robert Conroy nearly levelled the game when a long and proing pass gave him an extra yard over Aldershots back 4.Thomas Kraft was on hand to dive at the strikers feet and foil the chance.

HT

Morecambe came back out for the 2nd half with a spring in their step. They looked as if they were going to go all out for the win.It almost backfired for them when a clearance from Thomas Kraft saw Jake Robinson pick the ball up and beat 2 players.A wayward shot never troubled the Morecambe keeper. On the 49th minute Aldershot managed to grab another goal.Against the run of play a quick-fire passing move saw Jake Robinson pick the ball up on the right channel. After beating one player a through ball found Yevhen Selezniov. He fired it past the helpless goalkeeper to make it his 2nd goal of the game.Late in the game Morecambe pulled one back.Stewert Drummond managed to pick up a short corner and place it past Aldershot keeper Thomas Kraft. It was to little to late for Morecambe to come back and the Aldershot fans were left with a huge smile on their faces.

Newcastle United came away victorious from Glanford Park on Saturday night, thanks to a brace from Michael Owen, Jonas Gutierrez and Aleksandr Kerzhakov. Coming from Lincolnshire himself, Harvey was pleased to come back to his home county with the team he's supported growing up, alongside Shorpe's rivals Grimsby Town.

The match began with Shorpe making the early going. Sam Togwell saw his 30 yard ambitious effort narrowly go over the bar, before Steve Harper had to react quickly to a misplaced header from team mate Habib Beye. Liam Trotter then had a shot cleared off the line after 9 minutes played. This was not the performance of a team at the bottom of the league table. Just as Shorpe fans were beginning to feel optimistic, their hopes were dashed on the 10th minute mark. Michael Owen's effort was deflected past keeper Joe Murphy to give the Toon a 1-0 lead. That lead was then extended just three minutes later. The home side were unable to clear their lines, and the goalmouth scramble eventually ended with Jonas Gutierrez bundling over the line. This was the winger's 5th goal of the season and with 6 assists also to his name, he was certainly pulling his weight. After impressing in his first match partnering Michael Owen on Wednesday, Aleksandr Kerzhakov was given the chance to play up top again, and he didn't disappoint. With 17 minutes gone, he added Newcastle's third of the game. The Russian hit a sweet volley into the back of the net that Murphy failed to reach. Both sides had chances to score before half time but none were taken, and the away fans were pleased with the performance so far.

The second half was a somewhat dull affair for large periods. Newcastle were in command, keeping possession and protecting their lead. Shorpe created the odd opportunity but home fans were already leaving the stadium. The league's top goalscorer Michael Owen brightened up the second period with a fourth after 70 minutes. The English striker was clearly too good for the Championship. This goal made it 15 in 15 this campaign, and what a goal it was! Reminiscent of his world-reknowned goal at the 1998 World Cup, Owen ran at the Shorpe back line at pace before lashing past the keeper. The final score at Glanford Park, Shorpe United 0-4 Newcastle United.

Aldershot Were on the up as they approched this game.A draw against Histon and a win against Morecambe had seen them go up 2 places.Lincoln were in a smiliar league postition to Aldershot and needed win today after seeing their form dip dramtically in last few games. Both teams desperate for a win the stage was set for a good game.

Lincoln started off madly.A mad challenge from Paul Green gave him the 1st yellow card of the game after only 4 minutes. They alomost managed to score. Some quick-fire passing and a long clinical ball was nearly enough for Waghorn to finish a chnace but his shot sailed agonizingly wide of the mark.Howell almost broke the deadlock with a 25 yard rocket.A fine save from Robert Burch denied him a wonderful goal. The first goal was scored in the first-half and Martyn Waghorn was the man to get it for Lincoln.Collecting a short corner he drilled his shot past Thomas Kraft to leave the Aldershot fans stunned.

HT

After a dissapointing first half both the teams stepped into overdrive.Great passing and moving all over the pitch and thundering shots kept the fans entertained. With all the chances that were falling to both teams one team surely had to score.Aldershot did with Gómez Escáme Manolo the goalscorer.A shot from Jake Robinson was parried away by the Lincoln keeper but Gómez Escáme Manolo was there to finish the rebound.10 minutes later Aldershot found themselves in front after another Yevhen Selezniov goal.A powerful shot hit the post and creeped over the line. This was his third goal in 2 games and showed everyone why he is rated so highly.Lincoln got the equalizer after a mistake from Adam Sandell allowed Adrian Patula grab a point for Lincoln

Match Preview - Turn 16

newcastle-752224.jpgvs 200px-leicester_city_svg.png

After looking to have finally found some consistency, Newcastle United will play hosts to Leicester City tonight, knowing that the teams behind them are all looking to overtake the Geordies. Newcastle currently lie in 2nd place in the Coca Cola Championship, but there are just six points separating them and 13th. Blackpool lead the way with just two losses this season, and the Toon Army will be hoping that the sea-siders will slip up away at Bristol City tonight - though the chances of that happening are unlikely. The league's top goalscorer Michael Owen will start alongside Aleksandr Kherzakov, while the suspended Kevin Nolan will be replaced by Brazilian Juliano Juca. Steve Harper will continue in goal for the Magpies despite recent attempts from Harvey to sign Sergio Asenjo - a deal Harvey now describes as dead.

In other Toon news, Newcastle have been busy in the market, completing the deals for six youngsters, adding to Luis Caceres, Abdoulrazak Traore and Fabio Coentrao who were brought in earlier in the year. They are believed to be:

Jefferson Pinto

Mauricio Pereyra

Tuomo Turunen

Elkin Blanco

Joao Rojas

Juan Barros

Apart from Turunen, all of the signings come from South America, and Harvey feels they can improve and develop in England, and hopefully in the Premier League next season. Meanhile, Alan Smith is in talks with Cardiff in a deal worth £3.5M, and young Spanish striker Xisco has been told he can leave the club if a bid of at least £5M is tabled.

Top 2 Face Off At Bloomfield Road

Blackpool vs Newcastle United

Newcastle United will travel down to Blackpool tomorrow night, knowing that defeat would see them overtaken by the seasiders. Blackpool lead the way for much of the season but a bad run of form let Newcastle back in and in to first position by just one point. Crystal Palace and Cardiff are close behind these two teams and will be looking to capitalise on any slip ups. Tomorrow's fixture will be the 19th of the season - exactly half way into the season, and exactly half way into Newcastle's quest to be back in the Premier League. Their XI is expected to be unchanged from the side that beat Coventry on Wednesday night, which means out-of-favour Damien Duff will have to settle for a place on the bench yet again.

Last Gasp Winner For Toon In Blackpool

180px-Blackpool_fc_logo.png3-4 Newcastle_United_FC.png

Ignacio Gonzalez 5'

Pontus Wernbloom 15'

Javier Garrido 17'

Fabricio Coloccini 35'

Radek Mynar 57'

Mariano Herron 65'

Michael Owen 88'

Top played second yesterday at Bloomfield Road in what turned out to be a thriller in Lancashire. After going in 3-1 up at half time, Newcastle allowed Blackpool back into the game, and with 3-3 looking like the final scoreline, Michael Owen popped up with an 88th minute winner. The two teams showed why they were the top two teams in the division with some great attacking football on show, though both sides will be disappointed defensively. The win for Newcastle opens up the gap to four points at the top, though they will host 4th place Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

The match began at a fast pace and the away team went in front with just five minutes on the clock. A cross from Jonas Gutierrez was met by fellow South American Ignacio Gonzalez who made no mistake from close range. Pontus Wernbloom crashed the crossbar on the 9th minute, and six minutes later he got himself on the scoresheet to equalise for the Seasiders. A stunning volley flew past the unsighted Harper and into the top corner. The home fans were still celebrating when they were pegged back yet again. Spaniard Javier Garrido was the first to react to Blackpool's young Swiss keeper Yann Sommer's bad kick out, and his effort lofted over the keeper and into the empty net to put the Geordies back in front. The left sided player was justifying his manager's decision to start him in midfield ahead of the previously in-form Damien Duff. Blackpool began to dominate the game, with Bojan Vrucina, Joe Martin and Pontus Wernbloom all wasting good chances. Against the run of play, it was Newcastle who got the next goal to double their lead. Fabricio Coloccini skipped inside his marker and bent one past Sommer into the far corner, showing the flair of a typical South American. Blackpool again went looking for a goal but failed to take the chances they were making against a frail-looking Newcastle defence. The teams went in to half time with the score Blackpool 1-3 Newcastle United.

Newcastle began the second half as badly as they ended the first, and they were made to pay after 57 minutes. Radek Mynar's powerful effort gave Blackpool fans hope that a comeback could be on, knowing that a win would lift them back to the top of the division. It was the home team who had all the momentum and just eight minutes after Mynar's goal, Mariano Herron levelled the scores at 3-3. The equaliser suddenly brought Newcastle to life, and they began to play the football that took them top of the league originally. Sammy Traore had a good chance to get the fourth but couldn't get his shot away, and with just four minutes left, Ignacio Gonzalez almost got his second but he rushed his shot straight into Sommer's hands. With time running out, in-form striker Michael Owen sent the away fans into a frenzy with a late winner. Owen coolly rounded the keeper before slotting home from an acute angle into the empty net. The narrow win was a fantastic result for the Toon Army who now go 4 points clear at the top at the midway point of the season, though both teams should be praised for the spectacle they put on last night.

Coca Cola Championship leaders Newcastle United will play host to fellow relegated outfit West Bromwich Albion tomorrow night hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table. West Brom pose a big threat to the Toon however - the Midlands club are unbeaten in 7 games in all competitions and have climbed up to 4th in the table after a disappointing start to the campaign. These two sides met early on in the season where Newcastle came away with a 3-1 win, and manager Jack Harvey will surely be looking for more of the same come Saturday night. The Toon are likely to name an unchange side from the team that beat took three points from Bramhall Lane on Wednesday night, which means Uruguayan playmaker Ignacio Gonzalez will return from suspension, but only on the substitute's bench. Steve Harper will continue in goal, while the usual back three of Coloccini, Traore and Beye will again be present. Nolan and Butt will occupy the middle of the park, being flanked by Gutierrez from the right and Garrido on the left. Irishman Damien Duff will play just behind the front two of Michael Owen and Aleksandr Kerzhakov.

Other News

Jack Harvey has secured the signings of Leandro Cabrera and Charley Fomen in recent days. The two youngsters join the ever-growing youth squad of Newcastle United, while more experienced players are being asked to leave the club. Shola Ameobi has left the club to join Leicester City, and Joey Barton has also been transfer listed. Speaking exclusively to the club's official website, Harvey explained his reasons for his decisions:

"I now know my starting XI and the players that are leaving are simply not part of my plans any more. If we have injuries and suspensions, I am more than confident that the young players I've brought to the club can step in and provide cover. There's no point in trying to get back into the Premier League with the squad we had when we came down. There had to be changes and I'm pleased with the changes we've made. Hopefully we can maintain our current form and get back to where we belong."

We unfourntunatly will be without Striker Óscar Trejo for Some Time, Probably he'll miss the remainder of our Championship Campain of course it'll be a big loss to our team but we have Aaron Mclean who will fit into his Position, we wish Óscar Trejo the best wishes and hope he recovers from hsi Injury as quick as possible!"

Toon Stretch Gap At The Top To 5 Points

Newcastle returned to winning ways last night as they defeated lowly Nottingham Forest by four goals to nil in a great away performance for the Magpies. The win was made even better by Middlesbrough's 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United, which opened up the gap at the top to five points. With 14 games remaining, the loyal Toon fans can smell Premier League football, but manager Jack Harvey called for calm and said that his side mustn't suffer from complacency. Newcastle are now unbeaten in 12 games, and have taken 29 points from a possible 33 in their last 11 league games.

Newcastle were most people's favourites for this match at the City Ground, and they were certainly the team making the early in-roads. Michael Owen had chances to add to his seasons tally but failed to make them count, while the returning Ignacio Gonzalez also should have broke the deadlock but hurried his shot. It was eventually the left midfielder Javier Garrido who got the opener. The Spaniard was presented with an easy chance after Forest keeper David Gonzalez spilled Nicky Butt's long range effort. Both teams then had chances but neither keeper was really trouble, until Argentinian winger Jonas Gutierrez doubled the lead on the stroke of half time. A loose ball broke to him inside the area, and he finished neatly into the bottom corner.. One minute into the second half, and the Argentine should have got his second. Only he will know how he failed to hit the back of the net with his free header from just six yards out. On 49 minutes, it was made three by in-form striker Michael Owen. The striker was clearly too good for this division, and his stunning long range effort floated into the top corner - Owen's 20th goal of the season in 24 games. The rout was completed in the 84th minute, when Owen's strike partner Aleksandr Kerzhakov ran through on goal and thumped into the top corner. A great win for Newcastle and they can now go into their next match (Queens Park Rangers (H)) in high spirits.

Stoke has finally broken into the top four with their latest win against Sunderland which saw Stoke jump to 4th places. Stoke's biggest name is Ricardo Fuller but the Jamaican International who was enjoying his return from injury scoring in each of his games has been injured again. Many of Stokes youth players make up the squad and the integral part of their squad has been Oleg Ivanov and Freddy Adu which both players have combined for most of the teams goals.

Stokes manager Rohit Gautam who has been very soft spoken has set up a press conference.

"I was to focused on the job that press conferences were no important. The job is not done yet though even though many think Manchester United is out of reach we intend on trying to catch them our goal is to win the league it is that simple."

Stoke City News

75_1202128533.gif

Stoke City continue to pile on the wins with yet another win against Hull City. The Potters have moved into 3rd place and are aiming for a finish in first.

"It is a tall order and we will need some luck on our side but hopefully we can do it. It will be tough though because not many games remain and the point differential is so great."

Stoke in the last six games have won five games and tied once. Stoke has also given up only three goals in its last six matches.

"Our defense has been great as we have been playing a more defensive system but we have been doing great" said Freddy Adu who in the new formation is the lone striker but has created a lot of problems for the opposition.

Only time will tell is Stoke can maintain a spot in the top four or even maybe win the league as they are the underdogs

Great effort, but 15 points off me and 18 off the top with 27 to play for, I think winning the league is a bit overly ambitious.

Top 4 finish with that squad would be impressive though :)
