The Official Manchester City Thread

manchester_city_logo.jpg

Hello and Welcome to the Official Manchester City thread. As we near closer and closer to the begining of the 2009/2010 season, many critics alike are making their views and opinions known that Manchester City with their vast amounts, of endless money could launch a serious challenge for a European place, and challenge teams within the Top 5. I feel personally that, this is something that i feel should be glorified for all SM Members who are Manchester City fans, and a thread of this type would not only allow forum members, but other SM Members to contribute, and admire the effort and posts that are going to be put in place by people reporting on this thread. I've discussed the situation with the old-thread, but i feel to suit the phrase, 'The Future's Bright...The Future's City', it would be best to start fresh and report from this season onwards. The old thread is in the process of deletion.

The way the thread is going to work is that there are going to be many reporters, who will post regularly and report any news to do with Manchester City. This could be Team News, Post Macth Analysis, Transfer Talk and more. It will become apparent within the next few days as news is posted, as to who are the reporters. However, i encourage highly that other SM Forum Members who support other teams, who are possibly playing Man City or you feel that you want to discuss anything, please, please post on the thread. Please do not get put off by the fact that it's mainly all about MCFC, with MCFC fans posting all the time as it isn't and i don't want it to function in this way. Anyway thank you for your time, if your still reading this and enjoy the thread. I'll end with a familiar quote, i like to use: The Future's Bright, The Future's MCFC

Tricky start to the season with the first six games. We don't beat Blackburn very often, and we haven't won at Ewood Park since 2003, so that could be a tough game. I think we will beat Wolves at home, but I don't think it will be an easy game. They have just been promoted, they will have new players and they might be confident of springing some early season upsets. Portsmouth away is also a tricky one, they have some decent players, they will be getting quite a bit of money and they will have some new players probably and probably a new manager. I think we have a chance of beating Arsenal at home but I think they will play better this season than they did last season, as the squad will have had more time together, they also ended last season losing only one league game in 2009, so maybe they will take some momentum into this season. I think we might just beat them 2-1. It doesn't get much easier, with a trip to Old Trafford next. It's hard to predict the score in that game. Then, we've got an away game against West Ham. Zola did a very good job last season and they have got some decent players. I think we might just edge that game 1-0 or maybe 2-0.

I think we need at least 10 points from the first 6 games, but I am hoping we can get about 14.

Predictions for first 6 games:

Blackburn 1-1 City

City 2-1 Wolves

Portsmouth 0-1 City

City 1-1 Arsenal

United 1-1 City

West Ham 0-1 City

£18 million for Santa Cruz! :( Too much! I think we should go for somebody else. Would rather have Crouch or Dzeko. How is Santa Cruz worth that? His injury record for a start isn't good!

Yes, but he's clinical and thats what City need. He wont play much of a leading figure in the attack anyway. Eto'o and Tevez will both be named MCFC players anytime soon, i will assure you with him and Bellamy as back up, and possibly Sturridge if he can agree a contract, and Evans staying as well as City shown they want to keep him as they rejected a bid of Evans's value from Sheffield United. The rest will go, which to my displeasement will see Bojinov move :( I like Bojinov, he is a bit injury prone but his finishing skills are quality.

Clinical? How many goals did he score last season? Also, even if he is what City need, why buy him if he is going to be on the bench? Especially considering he would cost £18 million and the fact we have quite a few other strikers. I wouldn't pay £18 million for Crouch and Dzeko either. I wonder how much Bellamy will play next season. I think he could do quite a lot for us next season. I don't think we need Tevez, but I think Eto'o would be a very good signing.

Strikers to go:

Vassell

Benjani

Evans

Sturridge (if he doesn't sign a new contract)

Completely agree with you for once :P

Apart from his 1 decent season at Blackburn he's not been good enough, simple as that. I thought he didn't have the greatest of goalscoring records but was surprised when I checked how bad they were...

99/00: 28 league games - 5 goals

15 CL - 1 goal

00/01: 19 games - 5 goals

6 CL - 0 goals

01/02: 22 games - 5 goals

11 CL - 3 goals

02/03: 14 games - 5 goals

2 CL - 1 goal

03/04: 28 games - 5 goals

8 games - 1 goal

04/05: 4 games - 0 goals

No Europe

05/06: 13 games - 4 goals

No Europe

06/07: 26 games - 2 goals

7 CL - 1 goal

07/08: 37 games - 19 goals

3 UC - 1 goal

08/09: 18 games - 4 goals

No Europe

Apart from that 1 season at Blackburn he has done nothing special at all, so why the heck is he suddenly worth £18 million  Brilliant deal for Blackburn tbh.

Santa Cruz and Bellamy - probably the most overated partnership next season :)

If you don't bring in another striker and have those 2 as your starting choice, it'll simply be another season of failure.

And neither Eto'o or Tevez will join. Given the choice, Tevez would stay at United. If they make the right offer, he will be a United player next season. And why would Eto'o leave the world's best side for a club that isn't in Europe and won't be for another few seasons at least?

Because the way Utd have treated him is disgusting. There temprament towards tevez has been disgusting leaving him in limbo for 3 months over whether they want to sign him. It's clear the fans want him to stay but Fergie has other ideas, and he's only signing them to earn some pride back after selling Ronaldo, as i know many Man Utd fans in Manchester annoyed with the sale of CR7 to Real Madrid.

And why would Eto'o leave the world's best side for a club that isn't in Europe and won't be for another few seasons at least

Because MCFC want to use Eto'o as the foundations to expand MCFC as a whole product. Basically they want to reach the fat places of Africa and attempt to scout, globally franchise the club and the purchase of Eto'o would not only help do this, but he's a clinical striker that has stated earlier in the season, or maybe more towards the end of the 07/08 season that he wanted to one day play in England. City are attempting to promote themselves in South Africa with the Vodacom tour in the coming weeks. Also, it may be due to the fact that city have a lot of something, which rhymes with honey.

Re: Official Manchester City Thread

Maybe Hughes thinks that he can work well with him again like he did at Blackburn, and help him produce some of his best form. Maybe Santa Cruz would be more motivated to perform for Hughes than he was for Ince or Allardyce.

Adam, who do you think we will sign before the start of the season?

Ferguson won't care at all what a group of fans think, he does what's right for the club and in this case, that involved selling Ronaldo. Fans were annoyed when Beckham, RVN etc were left - they got replaced. Going back to Tevez, I don't think the way he was treated is disgusting. Half the problem has to be how he behaved himself which was childish at times. Anyway, we'll soon see :)

Didn't think about that, suppose that could be part of the reason, but then again, surely he knows about his past record and that apart from that one season it's rubbish :o

Man City set to make 12M bid for Kolo Toure after Arsenal captured the signing of Vermaalen. Good signing for MCFC or is he anywhere near as good as he was a couple of seasons back. Is 12M over the top for signing him or is it worth it? My views to come later, discuss people.

He'd be a great signing, and I think £12m would be a great price. But that is only in a newspaper, it may not be true.

Re: Official Manchester City Thread

i think that signing santa cruz is a big risk but if he links up well with robinho and tevez (if we sign him) then he could get back to his prolific goal scoring ways of the 2007-08 season when hughes was manager of blackburn. So hughes obviously knows him well so hopefully he can get him back on form and turn him into a great striker which city desperately need

I really dont want Toure to go:( He is my favourite player and is still a great player...If ye sign him ye'd be getting a proper world class player who is a natural captain....please dont take him:( i'd be devastated if he leaves...

No i wouldn't....He represents our team from the ''invincibles''... he is basically our captain......he is just a great player...

Good point about the invincibles, but maybe you could replace him and Gallas with Vermalen (spelt wrong maybe) and Garay/Sakho, young, very promising defenders. Alternatively, you could go for experience with somebody like Kakha Kaladze or Ivan Corodoba, but Wenger doesn't seem to buy that many experienced players.

I would prefer gallas to leave....If we do leave toure go and buy sakho instead it will just be ridiculous, if anything we need experience and composure in the backline not youth! Toure should stay and partner vermaelen and Gallas could go, even though he is a world class defender, he just causes too much contraversy and leads to arguements..... Toure is a very happy guy so i can't see him causing too many problems:D

Very optimistic! I would predict

Blackburn 1-2 City

City 2-1 Wolves

Portsmouth 1-1 City

City 1-3 Arsenal

United 2-0 City

West Ham 1-1 City

Roque Santa Cruz for 18 Million that is insane. Your the only club in the world who would play that amount of money for Roque Cruz. It really is starting to become a joke. So many more players out there that would be way more cheaper and of the same or even higher quality! Someone like Llorenete (Bilbao), Borriello (Milan), Radamel Falcao (River), Grafite (Wolfsburg), Vagner Love or even Lisandro lopez for a further 4 Million. Sorry but Mark Hughes isn't taking advantage of the fact he has millions at his disposal. Hes trying to improve city by buying decent players for enormous amounts of money where he could buy brilliant players for the same or just a little more. Man City won't finish better then 7th this season.
