EC 1663

Division 4 Round-up

Turn 15 Sat 4th July 2009

An accomplished performance from Crewe sees the Railway men leapfrog hosts Gillingham, into 9th spot, after a fine 2-0 away win at the Priestfield stadium. Experienced striker Steve Jones opened the scoring for Crewe after just 9 minutes, with the victory sealed 6 minutes from time by a Steve Schmaucher strike. Bottom club Grimsby Town picked up a vital 3 points at home to Struggling Bradford city. Coming back from a first minute goal from the Bantams Barry Conlon, Grimsby run out as winners after a Dany North brace. In a lifeless affair at Kenilworth road Luton and Leyton Orient fans endured a goalless draw, in keeping with both teams lackluster start to the season.

Dave Browns Swindon town suffered a rare home defeat at the county ground against Southend. In an electrifying opening 20 minutes, the game had barely kicked off before Veteran Micheal Mols put town one up. Within minutes the impressive Lee Barnard pulled the Shrimpers level before adding his second of the day to gain them the lead. With the Southend fans still celebrating Barnards 8th goal the season, Towns Gonzago Azevedeo unleashed a piledriver to bring the game back to square one. Not surprisingly the second half failed to live up to the excitement of the first, with the game decided in the 74th minute when Hal Robson Kanu took advantage of a Town mix up to finish sweetly. Browns day was further ruined 10 minutes before time, with the dismissal of right back Miguel Comminge for spiting. Lincoln citys excellent form of late sees them replace a fading Chesterfield in 2cnd spot, after Ben Wrights first half tap in saw off the Spirities at Sencil bank.

Rotheram Uniteds unbeaten run stretches to three after an excellent 3-1 win at Cheltenham. Despite losing the red carded Adrian Pettigew after half hour,United were rarely troubled, and after goals by Abu, Cummins and Kyle Lafferty were generous enough to gift their hosts a late consolation goal from Craig Ried. Leaders Millwall also found themselves down to 10 men after Jem Karacans sending off after a quarter of an hour, at Home to Brighton and Hove Albion. Nevertheless the Lions composed themselves well and dominated throughout going, on to win the game with a late goal from Tudgay 5 minutes before time.

Draw specialists Shrewsbury town and Rochdale canceled each other out at in a dull 0-0, and a solitary Matty McNeil strike clinched the points for Stockport at Brentford. In somewhat of a shock result at the MK stadium saw lady Kimkos Milton Keynes Dons, throw away a 2-1 lead to draw with Bournemouth after Brett Pitmans second half equalizer.

Division 4 league table

1.Millwall 39 points

2.Lincoln city 32

3.Chesterfield 29

4.Southend united 28

5.MK Dons 26

Re: English Championship 1663 Match Reports/Transfer Gossip.

After seein his side demolish wolves 7 - 0 ipswich boss shack was delighted to be offered the chance to manage tottenham. Although languishing near the bottom of the table the quality of players at the club are of high quality and the young manager could not turn the chance down. He was quoted saying ' I would like to thank ipswich for the opportunity and after rejuvinating the sqaud i hope there are no hard feelings'.

Re: English Championship 1663 Match Reports/Transfer Gossip.

I got offered Ipswich and Im very tempted to accept.

tbf i think i built a pretty solid squad up with the budget i had during my time there, and left them well placed in the table, so id like to see a regular forumer take them over such as yaself rather than some johnny no clue and ruin my work lol... but the tottenham job had too many world class players to say no to :P

NO BOUNDARY FOR SWANS !

Swansea continued their fine form last night with a stunning 4-1 win over Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.

Carlisle United faced the full brunt of Swansea's attacking force last Wednesday, with Oldham also coming on the wrong end of a fearsome attacking force. Despite the emphatic scoreline, it was Oldham who scored the first goal of the game; Chris Taylor, who has had plenty of critics this season after some unconvincing performances, headed past Lasse Staw to give his side the lead.

The lead only lasted 6 minutes, however. Pavel Mamaev got his first goal in Swansea colours when he scored a stunning solo goal to level the scoreline. The Russian dynamo has been tipped to become one of Swansea's greatest players this week, by club legend, Dave Gwyther.

Mamaev had a great game for Swansea, and scored a fantastic solo goal which sent his fans crazy.

Swansea took the lead on 50 minutes, when Croatian striker Ivica Olic tapped in an easy chance to make it 2-1 to the Swans. Olic has been under pressure lately for not translating his transfer fee into goals, but the Croat ripped off his shirt in front of the away fans following his goal. Matthew Hall called him over, presumably in order to calm him down to avoid getting a yellow card for his over-zealous celebrations.

Mouusa Maazou made it 3-1 on 54 minutes following his sublime skills in the box. He rounded Oldham 'keeper Greg Fleming before tapping in an easy goal. The Nigerian has been a fans' favourite ever since he blasted 5 goals against Peterbrough United. The odds on Maazou being top scorer in Division 3 at the end of the season have been slashed following the huge amount of money being placed on the striker.

E1_GGO1VIHFG.1+MAZOU.jpg

A fantastic start to his Swansea career, scoring 6 goals in 3 games.

Ivica Olic put the icing on the cake 18 minutes from full-time when a beautiful pass from Leon Britton found him in acres of space. After taking a moment to pick a spot that the opposing goalkeeper had failed to notice, Olic slotted his 2nd goal of the game. It was a great end to the game that Swansea had totally dominated. Maazou, Britton and Dan Gosling all had chances to extend Swansea's lead further, but the game ended 4-1 to Matthew Hall's side.

olic_q4.jpg

Olic scored 2 goals in a fantastic win for the Swans.

Doncaster Rovers lost to Carlisle United, so that means Swansea are now 6 points clear at the top of Division 3. The Swans' next game is at home to Shorpe, before a trip away to relegation threatened Huddersfield Town.

OLDHAM ATHLETIC - FLEMING; THOMPSON, GREGAN, HAZELL, STAM; LIDDELL, ALLOTT, STEPHENS, TAYLOR; WHITAKER; ROBERTSON

SWANSEA CITY - STAW; TOMECAK, CHYHRYNSKY, SERRAN, JUNIOR; GOSLING, MAMAEV, CESNAUSKIS; BRITTON; OLIC, MAAZOU

His only appearance for Stoke is in cup game. He hasn't been playing afterward which I'm concern. He's not even in the bench in the last fixture which tell me that he's not a regular in your first team. Also' date=' I've decided to recall him due to the lack of cover in Middlesbrough defence. Stoke City continue winning streak

EC1663 English Shield Round 3

Stoke City 4-0 Blackburn Rovers

liam-lawrence_1386908c.jpg

Liam Lawrence puts a MOTM performance.

Despite receiving a blow two days earlier after loan-signing Thomas Vermaalen was recalled to Boro, Manager Mak moved quickly to secure Brazilian starlet Victor Ramos from Vittoria for 1M and threw him into the starting line-up. He put up a giant performance and this will convince the manager and the Stoke City fans that he is worthy of a place in the team.

Stoke City came into this match as the underdogs, although they were facing a team 20 rankings below them in division 2. With the likes of Mario Gomez and Sneijder in Blackburn, they were relieved when their manager opted for a reserve side.

Only 4 players remained from the side that beat Liverpool on Saturday night, that of Doni, Fuertes, Lawrence and Akinfeev. Stoke City dominated the entire first half by racing into a 3 goal lead through Liam Lawrence (26th minute), Esteban Fuertes (32nd minute) and Richard Creswell (36th minute). The team continued their domination in the second half as Fuertes scored his second to wrap up the victory.

They face a struggling Aston Villa side on Wednesday night, knowing that a win will see them go up to 2nd if Portsmouth lose or draw. Hull City will be waiting for them in the next round of the shield.

Stoke City win in style

EC1663 Div 1 Turn 17

Stoke City 3-0 Aston Villa

maxi-rodriguez_51585.jpg

Captain Maxi leads to club to another home win.

One more win, 3 more points for Stoke City on Wednesday night as they cruised passed Aston Villa 3-0 without breaking a sweat. Manager Mak made a total of 9 changes to the starting line up which won Blackburn Rovers on Monday night - only Akinfeev and veteran Fuertes survived. With star striker Berbatov back in the starting line up after being suspended in the match against Manchester City, Stoke City started in style.

A brilliant though ball by Maxi sent Berba through in the 20th minute who finished it in the blink of an eye. 9 minutes later, Fuertes put the ball into the empty net due to a lapse of concentration by the Villa defence. Fuertes finished the game in the 79th minute after a brilliant one-two with Berbatov and sent the home crowd wild.

Since the 1-1 draw against Reading on the 13th of June, Stoke City have now won 11 games in a row in all competitions which is a club record. They now face a tricky away tie to Bolton who are managerless before travelling to Old Trafford for the biggest game of the season, aiming to stun the giants.

Division 4 Round-up

Turn 16 Wed 8th July 2009

AFC Bournemouth completed a fine 2-nil home win against Dave Browns Swindon Town' date=' courtesy of a 37th minute sending of Towns Gonzaga Azevedeo. With the game evenly balanced, the sudden departure of the 22 year old Brazilian, allowed the Cherries to wrestle the initiative from Swindon and the visitors inevitably paid the price for the dismissal, after Bournemouth netted late goals from Danny Hollands and Max Gradel. In another upset, Rotheram United were rarely in trouble as they put in an excellent performance to dispatch 2cnd placed Lincoln City 3-nil at Don Valley. Experienced striker Micheal Cummins opened the scoring a minute into the second period with the rout completed by Larent Macquet and Anderson Babu. In a result which suited neither team, promotion chasing Brighton and Hove Albion and MK Dons canceled each other out at the Withdean stadium in a lifeless 0-0.Cheltenham town made up for last weeks disappointing home loss, with a hard fought one goal victory at Rochdales Spotland ground. Dale may well feel slightly aggrieved not to at least grab a point tonight, as an even encounter was decided by a follow up tap in by Towns Canadian striker, Micheal D'agostino after an Alan Vincent long range effort was spilled by keeper Russell. After Mondays cup exit to Charlton, League leaders Millwall survived a scare at Crewe Alexandra coming back superbly after Tom Popes first half brace had put the Railwaymen into a commanding lead after just 16 minutes. The Lions managed to pull one back on the half hour mark from Jose Callejon before completing the comeback with a stunning second half brace from Lewis Grabbon.

No surprises at Vally Parade as Bradford miserable season continued with a 1 nil home defeat against 6th placed Shrewsbury town. In a most Lackluster of games the afternoons only highlight was a wonderful first half volley , by the Shrews Australian import Shane Cansdell Sheriff to notch up his first of the season. More trouble for Brentford after a 2-0 defeat at East London Neighbors Orient. The O's won the game with a goal either side of the break, with the first from Ryan Jarviss headed finish to a corner, before Alton Thelwell picked up his first of the season five minutes into the second. In a dour encounter at Edgely Park, Gillingham bounced back from the weekends defeat with a late victory over Stockport County. With the game heading towards a draw, Simeom Jackson smashed home a winner with barely 13 minutes left on the clock. After a first minute goal from Peter Till, Grimsby Town threw away the points at Southend united with the Shrimpers snatching victory with just ten minutes left with goals from Moussa and a 9th of the season for Lee Barnard. After a run of three defeats, one time league leaders Chesterfield at last got something on the board after a Jo Inge Berget equalizer canceled out Matt Springs opener in a 1-1 draw at home to Luton Town.
