Albiol complete move to Barcelona

raul_albiol.jpg

Raúl Albiol: Signed and sealed his Barça move

Valencia Raúl Albiol has completed his £25m move to Barcelona. The Spanish passed a medical with Barça and has now signed a deal to link up once more with Dean Bryant, his former manager at Valencia. Barcelona have not disclosed the length of the contract, but Albiol's agent has suggested a two-year deal had been offered to his client with another three year extension at the end of Season 6.

Dean Bryant has never made any secret of his desire to have Albiol at Barça, making enquiries to Valencia on every season and managed to steal the defender for a considered as low fee compared to his quality. The 23-year-old enjoyed a tremendous season under Dean but struggled for form and fitness following Dean's move from Valencia to Barcelona in Season 3.

Raúl Albiol is Barcelona's first signing for the current season as they set the message clearly for the club's pursuit of silverware. Last season, Barcelona went second, behind bitter rivals Real Madrid in Division 1. Barça are also reported to be pursuing Liverpool's Fernando Torres.

Dean: Marcano could leave Barcelona

ivan_marcano01.jpg

Ivan Marcano: Could be on his way out of Barcelona

Barcelona's defender Ivan Marcano are on the market if the right offer comes and there is a 50% chance he will depart, Barca manager Dean Bryant has said. The Spain U-21 international has voiced out his concern over his future with the club after the arrival of newest signing Raúl Albiol from Valencia. Marcano, who turns 22 today, has told his agent to look for a new club after the club has accepted his transfer request.

"It is a difficult decision for me to leave such a big club like Barcelona," Marcano told the club's website. "But I have to be realistic and leave this club if I want to get more first team football under my belt."

Marcano joined Barcelona three seasons ago since his £3.5m from Racing Santander but has yet to make any appearance for the senior team. Media reports said Italian club Siena have made an official bid for the defender with a fee believed to be around £4.6m.

Barcelona reveal interest in United's Westermann

Wednesday, 24 June 2009

heiko_westermann.jpg

Westermann: Barcelona transfer target

Barcelona have confirmed their interest to sign defender Heiko Westermann from Manchester United who have recently placed the Germany international on transfer-listed. It is understood that a fee of 12m would be enough for the 25-year-old to leave Old Trafford. Westermann, who can play at any defence position, has failed to secure a regular role in United's starting eleven and has made only four appearances last season. Barça manager Dean Bryant is keen to bring the defender to provide more options for his backline and also providing a healthy competition among his current defenders. Serdar Tasci, Martin Caceres and Gerard Pique all have not live up the expectation Dean hoping for and will be given to leave club on loan. Last season, Dean decision to field them in the European Championship Cup backfired as they lost to Juventus in the third round of the competition.

It is still not clear whether Barcelona will make a bid to United in the next 12 hours as they have to sell some of their current players to provide more fund for new faces. Martin Caceres is rumoured to be include as part of the deal but there has been no confirmation made by the Barça officials.

The 22-year-old defender is currently with the under-21 national squad preparing for the European Under-21s Championship at Sweden but could sign for Corinthians in the next 24 hours. Chelsea v Barcelona: Preview

Chelsea have no injury or suspension news for the new campaign. Ballack, Liverpool's target this season, will likely miss the match due to the speculation over his future at the club. The London club have no new faces to introduce in their first Division 1 clash with Barça and the Blues manager Hassan Mahmood will continue to have faith with his current squad.

Cristian Rodriguez will miss the trip to London for the first match of new season due to injury. Rodriguez picked a shin splints in the last season Division 1 clash with Manchester United and will be out for at least 11 days. Andrea Iniesta have just recovered from foot injury and is expected to be fit for the match but Barça manager has early stated that he won't risk Iniesta for the match. New signing Raúl Albiol could feature in the match but has slim chance of getting into the starting role as both first choice centre-back Rafael Marquez and skipper Carles Puyol are both fit.

Barça striker Samuel Eto'o continued his remarkable scoring form from last season as he hit a hattrick in the first game of the new campaign to help Barcelona win against Chelsea. Chelsea striker Gabriel Agbonlahor opened the scoring in the eleven minute. Agbonlahor headed home the first goal after receiving a cross from Florent Malouda. Barcelona went down to ten men in the 20th minute when Diego Capel received a straigth red card from referee Manuel Andarcia for a dangerous tackle on Frank Lampard. The visitors, however, showed that they were not outnumbered in terms of quality as they hit back with an equaliser in the 28th minute through Samuel Eto'o. The Barça striker took the advantage of flat-footed Ricardo Carvalho as he showed great composure to seal his first goal. Eto'o doubled his tally just two minutes later with an excellent header after receiving cross from Hernández Xavi on the left.

Chelsea started the second half impressively as they managed to get back the scoreline to level terms. Michael Ballack took the advantage of a mix up in the Barça defence as he raced through and confidently smashed a low shot past the advancing Sebastian Frey. Eto'o had an easy chance to get his hattrick before the hour mark but his easy tap-in somehow went wide. The Cameroon striker had to wait until the 85th minute to get his hattrick. A poor communication at the Blues defence helped Eto'o to seal the winning goal. Petr Cech managed to prevent Barcelona from getting the fourth goal in the stoppage time as he pushed the ball wide of the post with his finger tips.

Schennikov demand improve contract

Wednesday, 1 July 2009

schennikov.jpg

Schennikov is unhappy with his contract

Barcelona left-back Georgi Schennikov has claim that he wants a new improve contract with the Catalan club if he is staying the club for another season. Schennikov signed for Barça last season on a £7,200 p/w and has another his current contract has three more seasons left. It is understood that the Russian left-back want a new contract worth at least £15,000 p/w and will leave the club if they do not offer him the new contract at the end of the season.

Schennikov told Sportsport: "I am not sure whether I am going to stay with Barcelona if they do not offer my a new improved contract by the end of the season. I signed for Barcelona last season on a contract which I was not quite happy. I signed the contract because I was thinking that if I reject the offer from a great club like Barcelona, I will regret my entire life. But now I have started think about my future and I think I need to start on first team football. In Barcelona, it is difficult to break into the first team due to the numbers of quality players at the senior squad. But if they want me to stay at Camp Nou, then it would be fair if I was given an improve contract."

Albiol: We'll challenge Real Madrid for silverware

Wednesday, 1 July 2009

raul_albiol.jpg

Raúl Albiol: Plans to help team with Division 1 title

Raúl Albiol is confident Barcelona are building a squad capable of knocking Real Madrid off their throne next season. The Spain star was unveiled last week as Barcelona's first recruit to set the message clearly for the club pursuit to stop Real Madrid from winning the Division 1 for the two consecutive seasons. Aside from the signing of Albiol for a reported price tag of around £25million, Barcelona have also finalised a deal with Valladolid that will see Sergio Asenjo move to Spain for Barça record of highest transfer fee paid for a goalkeeper. Highly-rated Italy U-21 keeper Vincenzo Fiorillo has also been snapped for a "very low" fee while the likes of Fernando Torres and Heiko Westermann are regularly being linked with Barça in the media.

Even if Barcelona do not bring in any more players they already look set to have much more quality that last season, when they could only watch on in envy as arch rivals Madrid claimed the Division 1 title following Barcelona's dip of form at the second half of last season. Jonny O'Reilly's side are again likely to be the team to beat next season, but Albiol feels Barça can give the Spanish giants a run for their money.

When asked following his presentation if he though Barcelona could challenge Real Madrid, Albiol said: "Yes. That's what the club's project for this season is all about. We also need to be consistent against other big European clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and AC Milan."

The 23-year-old Spain international admitted speaking to Barça manager Dean Bryant about his plans for Barcelona helped persuade him to make a move to the Camp Nou.

"When I spoke to the manager he showed us his sporting project, and it influenced my decision a lot," explained Albiol, who had attracted of other clubs, including Manchester United and arch rivals Real Madrid.

"To work again under Dean is another reason why I choose to join Barcelona than other clubs. He has guided Valencia to winning Division 3 title in his first season there. He had done the same thing with Barcelona on the following season in Division 2. He's a great manager and has shown that with Barcelona and Valencia. They came close to winning Division 1 title last season to Madrid and I am here to help the team to achieve that title."

"It is very difficult to achieve that in my previous club and with the departure of David Villa, Javier Mascherano and David Silva, I think it is time for me to move too."

Barcelona still chasing Mata

Wednesday, 1 July 2009

Manuel Mata: Barcelona's transfer target

Barcelona manager Dean Bryant has confirmed Barcelona are still interested in bringing in Valencia's Juan Manuel Mata to the club. The former Valencia boss has said that he wanted to swoop in three Valencia players Raúl Albiol, David Silva and Mata to join him at Barcelona. Only Albiol has reunited with Dean while David Silva signed for Manchester United last season. Mata, who recently signed a new four-year contract with Valencia, has said that he could see himself leaving the club at the end of season after seeing the club failed to keep hold thier star players.

Mata told The SM Paper: "They (Barcelona) have yet to make an offer to Valencia so I should not thinking much on the terms they will offer. I happy that a big club like Barcelona are interested in my service but I want to stay for another one more season before I start thinking about my future. I am quite disappointed with the departure of key players in the last few seasons. If they failed to match my ambitious next season, then I will consider of leaving the club."
