Dirk Kuyt helps fund Robinho Deal

After it was announced that Robinho had completed his part-exchange move to Liverpool F.C earlier this evening, many people started to ponder which player would move to Manchester City in part-exchange. Odds earlier on in the wek had predicted Ryan Babel, Xabi Alonso and Emiliano Insua being part of the deal, but previous outsider, Dutch Forward and Winger Dirk Kuyt is set to fill the boots os Robinho at Manchester City after he was pictured posing for photo's in Robinho's Number 10 shirt. The story was then confirmed after Dirk Kuyt issued a statement to local TV stations, and the clubs official website confirming he was now a Manchester City player, and that he helped fund the deal to see Robinho move to Liverpool F.C.

Dirk Kuyt, Age 28 joined Liverpool in 2006 and has been an influential player for Rafa Benitez at Liverpool scoring 27 goals, in 104 appearances, and provided a very strong attacking threat on the wing, and through the middle of the field. Kuyt praised Liverpool's structure but stated that he felt that he wanted to pursue his career somewhere else, and Manchester City a club that was moving forward was the perfect choice. Selby who was also present at Kuyt's brief interview stated that Robinho was a massive player for the club last season, but change is good said Selby, and when asked about whether he felt Kuyt was big enough to fill the Brazilian's boots, Selby laughed off any criticism and stated that Kuyt will bring a brilliant attacking threat to the squad. The deal which sees Robinho move to Liverpool is reportedly to the value of £25M with Dirk Kuyt in Part-Exchange. Kuyt is set to make his debut in tonight's match.

Man City capture Season Long Loan signing

It's believed that in order to strengthen Selby's squad. in the last three to four days, it's became apparent that Selby has been contacting clubs worldwide who are currently on their Summer Holidays, and this morning reached an Agreement with Argentinian side Boca Juniors to provisionally sign, 21 Year Old Juan Forlin on loan for the rest of the 09/10 season. Forlin who has recently progressed from the youth ranks of Boca Juniors into the First Team XI, and even managed to grab his first international caps for Argentina has signed a 12 month loan contract until the rest of the season. Forlin, even though he is a popular up and coming prospect in Argentina is reasonably unknown to the footballing world, but Selby's scouts have told to have been keen admirers of the Argentinian.

Juan Forlin, who will now wear the Number 35 shirt in the Manchester City jersey for the season will provide stability in the defensive options of the club, with Forlin being able to adapt to a Central Defensive position, and a Defensive Midfield position. Forlin was unavailable for comment, due to the player participating in a vigorous medical scan in the City Of Manchester Stadium, before being quickly whisked away for publicity photos for the club's website outside the ground with manager Selby. However, on an odd occassion Sheikh Al Mubarak offered some words of wisdom. Mubarak stated that Manchester City are sleeping giants of English and World football, and that the future is certainly bright on the blue side of Manchester. Words of wisdom from the Owners, which will delight any Manchester City fan worldwide.

Manchester City in stalemate against Dynamo Kyiv

Manchester City 2-2 Dynamo Kyiv

Dirk Kuyt (14)

Milos Ninkovic (31)

Andriy Nesmachnyi (62)

Richard Dunne (66)

Manchester City welcomed Ukranian side Dynamo Kyiv to the City Of Manchester Stadium earlier this evening to kick off Manchester City's home campaign of the 2009/2010 season. Manchester City much more prepared than last time ahead of their game, named a full strength side and adopted to a more attacking 3-4-1-2 formation which allowed more attacks to happen directly through the middle of the pitch. After Robinho completed a deal to Liverpool on Tuesday evening, Dirk Kuyt finalised terms in a lucrative contract to earn his first start under Selby and many other players where handed a debut start due to the alternative formation. Also, many players reverted to their secondary position to make sure everybody was in a comfortable position, prepared for the grudge match against the Ukranian team Dynamo Kyiv.

The game got off to a lively start as always, and Manchester City began to attack from the opening whistle. Dirk Kuyt worked will in partnership with Swedish hitman Marcus Berg and Brazilian Attacking Midfielder Elano to provide many goal-scoring opportunites, however great saves from the Kyiv shot-stopper stoped Selby's side from getting an early, and crucial lead. However, it wasn't long before City made one of their chances count. Debut-Star Dirk Kuyt curled in a long range effort and sent the home fans in an eruption of delight. A very memorable moment for all City fan's awaiting the promised new era of trophies and success, and for the player as well. So, City were 1 goal up, with 15 minutes played and with City on top it looked like they were never going to let their lead slip. But fortune certainly favoured the brave in the case of Dynamo Kyiv even despite missed chances, eventually a breakthrough happened for them. Number 11 for Dynamo Kyiv, Milos Ninkovic scored a goal which put Kyiv back in the game, leaving Manchester City with things to think about heading into the half-time break. Milos Ninkovic scored on the 31st minute, and the one all stalemate remained till Half-Time.

After a late setback of a Kyiv goal, City wanted to put things straight through getting an early goal, and trying to sustain and keep the slender lead. But things took a change for the worse, as Kyiv struck a blow again and managed to place the ball behind City keeper Shay Given in the Manchester City goalmouth. Andriy Nesmachnyi, headed in from a Corner Set-Piece on the 62minute and left City fighting back after they'd a 1-0 lead, suddenly result in a premature defeat. However, City's desire to earn at-least a point, and even more out of this tie, was apparent and Richard Dunne scored a similar goal to that of Nesmachnyi from a Set-Piece on the 66th Minute mark, and put the result back to 2-2, and with just over 20 minutes left to play it was anyone's game for the taking. But Shakespeare couldn't have written the outcome better. A game which both teams had very strong attacking options and promised a flurry of goals, failed to live up to expectations in the final stages of the game, with both teams attacks failing before any shot on goal happened. Eventually the game ended with 2-2, and in hindseight, this 4 goal stalemate was the right result for both teams. City boss Selby was unavailable for comment, but sources close to the manager say he was satisfied with the team's peformance in the first home game of the season, and the outcome of the game.

Manchester City Player Ratings - 8th July 2009

Local Press have been commenting on the second match of Selby's manegerial career, and an overall average rating of each player has been taken. All players are to be reviewed below, taking their peformance and effort into account.

1. GK = Shay Given:

Was put under some pressure today, being forced to make numerous brilliant saves to keep Kyiv out. Given retains his rating of 7, but peformances of this calibre again could see it rise. One of the best keepers, in the division currently.

Rating = 7

2. CB = Vincent Kompany:

After settling into defence from a defensive midfield position, Kompany produced a very good peformance but was at fault for one of Kyiv's goals. But on a whole, he played strongly in the Manchester City defence.

Rating = 7

3. CB = Richard Dunne:

After being a strong man at the back last game, Dunne progressed even further and was influential in yesterday's stalemate with Kyiv. Earned some respect and pride for bagging the equalising goal on the 66th minute.

Rating = 8

4. CB = Micah Richards:

Was a risky choice to play, but he made it known he was up for playing and raring and ready to go. However, his re-ocurring Ankle Injury forced Selby for safety to substitue the young defender at half-time.

Rating = 7

5. CM = Nigel De Jong:

After a match-winning peformance in the season opener, De Jong took a back-seat today and allowed Barry and Ireland to pose an attacking threat. His quality was missed from time-to time however.

Rating = 6

6. CM = Gareth Barry:

The former Villa midfielder was distracted at times due to off the field matters, but still played a vital part in City's first goal. Barry was substitued at half-time, in a tactical, and more attacking option.

Rating = 7

7. LW = Luis Antonio Valencia:

After signing from Wigan, Valencia made his debut and peformed to the high standard fans had seen him do at Wigan all of last season. Posed a very strong attacking threat down the left wing, and played well on his debut.

Rating = 7

8. RW = Stephen Ireland:

Didn't look as strong on the Right Wing, but he was able to adapt to this position and direct some brilliant crosses, with one resulting in the corner that brought City's second goal. Expect to see him back in CM next game.

Rating = 6

9. AM = Elano:

Played fantasically yet again in the Attacking Midfield position, and was a handful for the Kyiv defence, however he missed many opportunites to get himself on the score-sheet but overall a great peformance by the Brazilian.

Rating = 7

10. CF = Dirk Kuyt:

Wonderful Debut, from Kuyt and has made it clear to fans that he can fill Robinho's boots. A top class goal sent the fans wild, and his skill on the ball all resulted in a man of the match peformance. He will slowly become a fan's favourite in my eyes.

Rating = 9

Man Of The Match

11. CF = Marcus Berg:

Shocking peformance from the Swede who promised so, so much. Fans are blaming it on fatigue and is expected to be rested next game, but today Berg shown no effort, and lacked passion and desire to win.

Rating = 4

Selby set to put Cash Resources too good use

After a boost of cash from the sale of Brazilian winger and forward Robinho to the red side of Liverpool, the Manchester City board have allowed Selby to keep any profit of Robinho and use it to strengthen and bolster the squad. So overnight, Selby has been launching bids for players left, right and centre on who he feels will be essential to the squad, and will bring an improvement either in the attacking, playmaking or defensive options. It's thought that the Manchester City board as one of their season aims want Selby to build a squad not only to bring success this season, but produce great youngsters and build a squad set to be one of the strongest in the next 2-3 seasons, and to challenge similar squads in other divisions worldwide.

With all of Selby's current signings being under 23, it's clear Selby has taken the option of buying quality, youngsters accross the world as one of his main priorities, however it's thought that the Manchester City board want to see a few experienced players come in as well as youngsters. The loan signing of Juan Forlin has also added speculation however that Selby will target youngsters of the same calibre. Reports have suggessted that the transfers could be announced as early as this afternoon, but will be done after all contract terms and clauses are agreed along with medical examinations for each player. So, after Selby promised that most of his transfers had been completed, and with many fans questioning the sale of Robinho, it's clear many fans will be pleased to see what Selby has used the club's financial resources for in the transfer market.

Gabriel Obertan signs for Manchester City

After the wake of recent events surrounding the sale of Brazilian winger, Robinho to Liverpool for £25 Million pounds, and Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt in part-exchange, Selby has thought to have divided his full attention on strengthening his own squad, without selling anybody to provide resources. It’s a common known fact that the sale of Robinho was a beneficial factor in being able to strengthen the squad, and Selby has acted quickly before the players on his shortlist are snapped up before too long. Selby’s first signing is believed to be Manchester United target, that being 20 year old French winger, and forward, Gabriel Obertan from Bordeaux. Obertan who spent the majority of last season on loan to French division 1, minnowers Lorient, used the 08/09 season as a way of getting match experience ahead of a big move to a bigger team, and Selby was said to be a keen admirer of the players abilities, and capabilities.

Obertan, who is relatively unknown to the majority of the footballing world made his way through the various ranks in the French Footballing industry, and received his first international cap, in the early parts of 2009. Obertan was believed to have boarded a flight, inbound towards Manchester, where he is set to be met by Selby, and the decisive figure in many of Manchester City’s transfers, Sheikh Al Mubarak along with Sheikh Mansour to discuss contract terms, and clauses before partaking a vigorous medical ahead of being announced to the Manchester City fans. Obertan who managed to participate in a short interview before his move to the Blues, said he was excited by the prospect and wants to be part of the club’s history this season. Obertan, also stated that he will have to work hard for a permanent fixture in the side, however he is prepared to fight for his place and prove what he is worth.

Selby also adds Naughton to Summer Spending Spree

Following the signing of Gabriel Obertan from Bordeaux who spent most of the 08/09 season at Lorient, Selby has also believed to have captured another signing. Yet again, Selby has chosen to spend his money on another player under the age of 23, thus in the signing of English Right Back, and Left Back Kyle Naughton from Sheffield United, in a deal worth to be £3.575 Million Pounds, with Manchester City academy star Ryan McGivern moving to Sheffield United as part of the deal. Naughton who was a target for Aston Villa, Fulham, Everton and Sunderland expressed his desire to leave after Sheffield United failed to get promoted to the top tier of English Football at the end of the 08/09 season, and after many failed efforts by Sheffield United officials, Naughton was eventually allowed permission to discuss transfers with other managers and clubs ahead of a proposed move.

Naughton is understood to be currently in a medical at Manchester City’s Platt Lane complex, which oddly has only been used once in this transfer window for medicals, with Carrington Training Complex being the Number 1 choice for players to take part in a medical. With Naughton heading to the second choice medical centre, it’s believed that another player set to finish finalising a deal with Selby at Manchester City is participating in a Medical. Naughton who similarly to Obertan, has progressed through every youth rank possible in his respective place of birth stated that he was overjoyed to be leaving Sheffield United, and that for the sake of his career, he thanked Manchester City for approaching him with a lucrative contract. Naughton has finalised terms on his contract which is set to keep him in Manchester, for the blues till 2012 provisionally with a view to extend his contract after his second season at the club.

José Sand also joins the Blue Revolution

Whilst Kyle Naughton's medical took place on the north side of Greater Manchester, Jose Sand was at the more familiar Carrington training ground ahead of a proposed move to Manchester City. Sand, aged 28 finished ranked 5th in the world, as one of the top goal-scorers and his signing even though he is considered to be a low-key player, is a very big and influential signing on a whole. Sand was at Carrington training and medical complex finalising terms in a two year contract, agreed with Sand's former club Lanus and participated in a vigorous medical testing Sand's physical ability, and as expected Sand passed with flying colours. This signing is set to add experience which is vital not only for the squad but for younger strikers such as Marcus Berg who is set to be struggling with the pace of the English game, but Sand's arrival should help Berg progress into a better player in the future.

Sand stated in a statement to Lanus before he left, that he thanked the fans of Lanus for the momentus amount of support he recieved at Lanus and he wishes the club the best for the future. Sand also stated that for the sake of the club's finances in the current economic climate, and for the sake of progressing his career in a higher, competitive league for a club with the calibre of Manchester City's. Sand is expected to be a major figure up front with Selby set to keep two strikers upfront at all times, with wingers in alliance and a possible attacking midfielder, but the fine detail of this is unknown. Finally, Selby didn't have much to say on the matter just stating he that that Sand will not only bring goals to the club but experience for younger members of the club. Selby then jetted off to finalise another transfer deal, which is thought to be either another striker or defender.

Selby completes signing of Crouch from Portsmouth

Former Liverpool and Porsmouth striker Peter Crouch has completed Manchester City's summer spending spree, putting pen to paper on a five year contract at Eastlands. Crouch who had been linked with a move away to Italian giants Milan and Spanish outfit Sevilla, rejected contracts and offers from abroard and chose to take the trip up North to join Manchester City. Crouch, aged 28 completed a move this morning which see's infamous striker Benjani move back to his former club. Benjani will be famously remembered for scoring the winning goal in the Manchester Derby in the 07/08 season, however after an unsuccessful spell, and finding himself way down the pecking order, Benjani offered himself in part-exchange in hope of first team football at Porsmouth. Crouch will also be looking to establish himself at Manchester City, and to hopefully earn himself a place in the England World Cup side, for South Africa 2010.

Selby stated to the press that he was overjoyed completing the deal for Peter Crouch and he wished Benjani the best of luck with his future career at Portsmouth. But Selby's main topic of interest was Crouch, and Selby confirmed that this was the last transfer he was in talks with, and to get it completed is a total weight off his mind. Selby confirmed that he doesn't expect anymore players to join, for the next couple of weeks, and that he expects if anything players to leave in sales to keep the clubs finances stabilised, or loan deals to cut down the club's wages and squad size. Crouch briefly posed for pictures with Selby, in the Manchester City jersey and peformed his famous robot celebration before swiftly exiting the press-conference media room. It's thought most fans hope that they'll see Crouch's famous celebration on a game to game basis, with many fans excited of the prospect of two experienced strikers, at Manchester City this season.

Manchester City 3-1 Besiktas JK

Dirk Kuyt (31)

José Sand (38)

Dirk Kuyt (47)

Mert Nobre (55)

Manchester City welcomed Turkish outfit Besiktas JK for the second league game of the season, however it's clear Manchester City wanted to do something they missed out on in the first game. Get a victory for the fans. And against Besiktas JK that's exactly what they did. In a change of formation, applying a more direct and conventional 3-5-2 structure, Selby added to his squad in the past week and Jose Sand made his debut in a Blue shirt for Manchester City with Obertan and Crouch making sub-appearances in the second half for Manchester City. City, who won the game 3-1, dominated throughout getting 67% on possession and doubling, and nearly even tripling the amount of shots currently unmanaged Besiktas JK got throughout the course of the game.

City started the game in an attacking style but attempts from José Sand, and Brazilian Right Mid, Elano fell short of goal causing Selby to get off his touchline within 15 minutes of the game starting. However, Selby's actions seemed to do the trick as Dirk Kuyt curled in a free-kick on the 31st minute, after Vincent Kompany was took down by a herd of Besiktas players on the outside of the box. Calls for a penalty were over-turned but Kuyt still did what many players have failed to do at City and put City ahead with a stunning free-kick. High-Spirts surrounded the players, and the City staff on the touchline, and fans were also sharing this feeling after an increase in sound from the annual song Blue Moon bellowed accross Eastlands. Then, after missing an earlier opportunity, as the 38th minute came, José Sand made the most of a glorious opportunity infront of goal and burried the ball into the Besiktas goal-mouth and put City 2-0 infront before half-time. The score stayed like this till halftime, and it's clear that City were on top, and as the second half began this didn't change. As on the 47th Minute, Dirk Kuyt made it 3 goals in his first 2 games for Manchester City as he scored from a Corner set piece, in-swung by Elano. 3-0 now, and Besiktas had no hope of getting anything out of this game. However, a consolation goal was found on the 55th minute, by Mert Nobre. However, the final whistle soon called and the score stayed at 3-1. City remain unbeaten and move up to third in Division 2.

Rating = 7

4. CB = Micah Richards:

After recovering from Swine Flu, Richards made it back in time from Cyprus to face Besiktas, but Richards wasn't up to his usual standard and looked distant at times throughout the game. Richards could lose his next place to Zabaleta if his illness worsens.

Rating = 5

5. DM = Vincent Kompany

Reverting into his secondary position, it didn't effect Kompany's peformance making sure that he was capable of stopping any attacks from Besiktas and being an integral part of Manchester City's attacks..

Rating = 7

6. CM = Gareth Barry:

The former Villa midfielder used his experience to help beat off any Besiktas attacks and was a central player in the city midfield. Worked well with De Jong on many occassions and looked as strong as he did at Villa on many occassions.

Rating = 7

7. CM = Nigel De Jong

The Dutchman used his international experience to help beat off Besiktas setting up Kuyt on many occassions. Solid peformance from De Jong as usual and he is becoming a fans favourite at Eastlands.

Rating = 8

8. RW = Elano:

After flying in from Robinho's wedding, after Elano was best man, Elano also looked distracted but still played his part setting up Kuyt's first goal in the 3-1 victory.

Rating = 6

9. LW = Luis Antonio Valencia:

Played fantasically yet again in the left wing position, and was a handful for the Besiktas defence, however he missed many opportunites to get himself on the score-sheet but overall a great peformance by Luis Valencia.

Rating = 7

10. CF = Dirk Kuyt:

Scored two fantastic goals to help beat off Besiktas, and has taken his goal tally to three goals in two games. Kuyt is setting the league alight with his electric and match-winning peformances. Top Class today.

Rating = 9

11. CF = José Sand:

The best debut a striker can ask for. Sand played his part in both of Kuyt's goals and even got himself on the score-sheet. His experience was vital and has helped players at the club in many ways. Sand was star today, and rightfully deserved Man Of The Match.

Udinese 3-3 Manchester City

Marko Arnautovic (29)

Simone Pepe(66)

Elano (67,71,75)

Kwadwo Asamoah (77)

Manchester City boss Selby knew that today's match wasn't going to be easy, against strong, Italian side Udinese. Udinese who also are battling for a promotion to Division 1, of the SMFA Europa League provided a dangerous attacking movement in previous games, and Selby made a few changes to suit the Italian side's style of play. One thing Udinese have produced this season is goals, and they didn't fail to dissapoint as a game which anyside could of gone on to win ended in a 3-3 draw. Manchester City according to statistics were on top but in the minor detail, both sides were equally as good as each other. There was a lot expectation today for City to carry on their unbeaten form, and especially after a crucial win against Besiktas, hopes were high that they could win

City started the game in an attacking style but it was Udinese who looked more likely to take the lead, with Antonio Di Natlale, and Arnautovic providing strong attacking options, and before long Udinese took the lead. Former, FC Twente, and Austrian striker Marko Arnautovic slotted home from close range on the 29th Minute, putting Udinese 1-0 up. The score stayed like this till half time, and it wasn't until the second half were supporters got their value for money and seen top quality attacking football, from two of the most dangerous sides in Modern Football. The second half kicked off, and within seconds of kicking off, Selby's men had a goal dissalowed showing the intent of the Manchester City side and what they wanted to set out and achieve. But despite many attempts to equal it to 1-1 and eventually try to win the game, it was Udinese who got the goal and capatalised on their slender 1-0 victory. Simone Pepe, scored from a set-piece, assisted by Arnautovic on the 66th minute. But then a minute later, City pulled one back with Brazilian RM Elano scoring a free-kick from well inside the Udinese half. And 4 minutes, later Elano scored again with a fantastic long-range effort, on the 71st minute. And then, Elano did the unthinkable and finished off his hat-trick on the 75th minute, with a bullet header from an inswinging Dirk Kuyt corner. But then, to the MCFC fans dissapointment after coming from behind 2-0 down, Udinese scored the final goal of the game on the 77th minute with Kwadwo Asamoah scoring a free-kick to be proud off. Thsi concluded the game, with the score ending 3-3.

Manchester City 0-2 Bordeaux

Marouane Chamakh (22)

Pierre Ducasse (49)

Manchester City's 5th league match of the season, brough french side Bordeaux to the City Of Manchester Stadium in a home tie with the two clubs. Bordeaux currently sitting in 1st position in the league, posed an attacking threat so Selby opted for a 3-5-2 formation to try and stop any kind of Bordeaux attack. But this evenentually had no major impact, as Bordeaux's overall strength and character throughout the game was too much to handle for Selby's men, and Bordeaux romped onto a 2-0 away win in convincing style. Throughout the game, statistics such as shots, and shots on target favoured the home side, but overall these attacks resulted in nothing, and Bordeaux were the favoruties throughout the game to get the all important goal.

City started the game in an attacking style but it was Bordeaux who looked more likely to take the lead, with Marouane Chamakh and Nuno Maniche, looking deadly on the attacks and more likely to score from attacks through the centre of the field. But in the early stages, under the 20 minute mark, City defenders coped well in stopping any early goal. But on the 22nd minute, things took a turn for the worse, for Manchester City as from a free-kick set piece, Marouane Chamkh latched onto the ball in from Maniche, and sloppily slotted the ball past Shay Given in the Manchester City goal. This put the french side 1-0 up, and they looked more and more likely to capatalise on their lead as they continued to attack from the back of the defence, up to their attack, and Manchester City's defending wasn't simply up to scratch. The scoreline unsuprisingly stayed at 1-0 to Bordeaux till half-time. The second half then kicked off with Manchester City starting better, than they ended the first half but Bordeaux evidently were still on top. And, after only 4 minutes, the french side were 2-0 up in Manchester. This time it was Pierre Ducasse with the goal, which eventually sealed the momentus victory over Manchester City, as City failed to pose any attacking threat for the remainder of the game, and Bordeaux breezed to a convincing 2-0 victory. Selby stated briefly when leaving the stadium, that tonight was a big learning experience for Man City against stronger opposition, and blasted any rumours that he has proved he isn't the right man for the job.

Manchester City have named an un-named side for their first Cup match of the current league campaign. Selby has named the same side, and the same formation which lost to Bordeaux on Saturday. Through naming such a strong side for the cup match, is it a sign of strong intent of Selby's intentions for the cup competition. Most likely, but it's expected that Selby will name a weakened side for Wednesday's league match against Olympiacos.

RSC Anderlecht 0-1 Manchester City

Elano (53)

For the first cup match of Selby's manegerial campaign, Selby wasn't prepared to take any risks, as he named a full strength squad, but the squad which lost 2-0 at home to strong french side Bordeaux. In a 4-2-3-1 formation, Selby's side lined up with Anderlecht and a difference in quality was evident, as Selby's side romped to a comfortable 1-0 victory away from home. Selby's men dominated the game, with triple the amount of attacks, and shots on goal than RSC Anderlecht throughout the game, and Manchester City also dominated on possession ending the game with 58% possession. It's expected that Selby's side will field a weakened side for City's away match to Olympiacos on Wednesday.

City started the game in a faimilar dominating attacking threat, and looked likely to score with Peter Crouch hitting the bar in the early stages of the match, and Elano providing killer crosses at every given moment. But Anderlecht also provided a good defensive cover stopping any deadly attacks in their tracks. And as much as both sides played their part, Manchester City and Anderlecht ended the half in a 0-0 stalemate. However, as the second half kicked off, as Anderlecht looked like they were tiring, City looked the opposite and ready to capatalise on their faults. Peter Crouch hit the crossbar yet again, with Dirk Kuyt also hitting the side-netting within 5 minutes of the first half kicking off. And, on the 53rd minute, a breakthrough. Brazilian, Elano scored a freekick on the 53rd minute and sent the travelling City fans wild, with eruptions of joy from the top tiers of the Belgian side's stadium. This atmosphere kept as strong up until the end of the game, as man of the match Elano attacked with pace and dominance to pose an attack at every given moment. But the Anderlecht defence managed to keep his goal-scoring opportunities out of their goalmouth, and the score ended with Manchester City cruising to a comfortable 1-0 victory.

Olympiacos 0-3 Manchester City

Gojko Kacar (39)

Luis Antonio Valencia (50)

Shaun Wright Phillips (61)

Manchester City’s 6th league game, following a first round cup match to RSC Anderlecht, was an away trip to Greece, where the blues were up in opposition against Olympiacos. Peforming to a capacity crowd of (33,334) at the legendary Karaiskakis stadium, Selby stated in a pre-match press conference that as a manager he dreamt of managing a team to success in such a stadium and venue, and pre-match Selby seemed raring to go and acted confident as he lead the blues onto the hallowed turf. As previously stated, Selby made a total of 6 changes to his starting xi, with key, essential players such as Vincent Kompany and Wayne Bridge missing out after failing late fitness tests, and thus paving the way for 2nd string players, to make there name and grab the attention of manager Adam Selby, in hope of a regular starting place in the starting XI. And Selby’s men, peformed up to the high expectation before the match, and romped to a convincing 3-0 away win. Starting the game in a 4-2-3-1 formation, Manchester City dominated throughout the game, getting a total of 57% possession and as for shots, City managed to get a total of 9 shots on goal, 8 of these being on target, so based on statistics it seems Manchester City deserved their convincing win.

Man City, started from the opening whistle in their similar confident style which has been common throughout all of city’s matches in the current campaign. Elano, and Antonio Valencia began to make an impact both going close on occassions within the first 20 minutes of the match. As the clock began to hit the 30 minute mark, the pressure button had firmly been pressed by Selby as Manchester City yet again attacked with flare and confidence with Elano, and debutant Santa Cruz coming very close to getting the opening goal. But on the 39th minute mark, a breakthrough. Gojko Kacar, who started in place of Nigel De Jong got himself into Selby’s good books for certain after manouvering past an oncoming Olympiacos defender, and charging into the box before calmly placing the ball past the Greek shot-stopper Nikopolidis. 1-0, now and City were firmly in the driving seat and in control of the game’s proceedings in the first half, and didn’t look if they were going to stop controlling the game any time soon. The scoreline stayed at one goal to nil, in city’s favour at half-time. So in high spirits, the half-time break passed, and City re-entered the field of play with a spring in there step ready to kill off the opposition, and within 5 minutes the blues were two goals up. Ecuadorian winger Luis Antonio Valencia completed a complex passing move and scored a marvellous individual effort. Then, 11 minutes later the Manchester City scouring spell was complete, this time with former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright Phillips scoring from a set-piece to give Olympiacos no chance of getting anything out of this game, and the scoreline looked set to stay at 3-0 until full-time, in which it did. So a fantastic display by Manchester City who looked more like a Division 1 team, than a Division 2 team on occassions today. If Manchester City continue like this, there’s no reason why Selby won’t be managing in Division 1 this time next season.

Of current, there are no manegerial posts available in which Selby would be reported to be interested in, according to sources near the manager, but many fans have congregated outside the City Of Manchester Stadium, awaiting the news.

Starting off as a hated candidate for the job at Manchester City, with his tactical awareness and his magic in the transfer window, fans seem to have warmed to the relatively unknown Englishman, who has certainly made a name for himself with City's current league peformance, and successful cup campaign. One fan who spoke to Sky Sports News, stated that as much as he disliked the appointment of Selby at first, he holds him in the highest regard and thinks that if the news is that Selby could be on his way after a short spell at City, it would be devestating for the club. Another fan quickly quoted, Selby's going nowhere, i hope this news is just another player we've bought. But regardless of whether the news surrounds Selby's future or transfer negotations with Selby involved, it's clear the fan's appreciation for the man, has increased over the last few weeks, and if he was to go, it would be upsetting for the fans.
